    Mother Shub's Pfancy Pfefferneusse

Pfancy Pfefferneusse doesn't smell complex or spicy on me at all, but that's okay. It smells just like sweet, flakey, golden little shortbread cookies. It's so warm and comforting <3. It doesn't smell outright spicy, but I think that the spices are giving it a warm, cozy feel. It gives off a warm, yummy vanilla smell on me. I definitely need a full bottle of this (or two bottles).

But Men Loved Darkness Rather Than Light

In the bottle, this smells like damp, sweet, fragrant wood, leaves, and earth, and a bit of spice. On my skin, I can smell the patchouli, oakmoss, and spices, for sure. They combine together in this soft, earthy, spicy sort of way that reminds me of fall leaves (and Falling Leaf Moon). But Men Loved Darkness Rather Than Light actually smells like a warmer Falling Leaf Moon to me, at first. I don't exactly love the warm spiciness though, and the spice gets stronger on me in the drydown. It's like Falling Leaf Moon meets cheap, spicy craft store potpourri, and it just gets spicier the longer that it's on my skin. I thought that I would love this (I love ginger, patchouli, oakmoss, saffron, vanilla, and resins), but it smells like cheap room fragrance on me . It gives me a headache after a while.

    Mason & Jenkin's Port Jelly

In the bottle, this smells like boozey red berries. It reminds me a bit of red wine gums candies. On my skin... boozey red berries. This doesn't smell as heavy as wine notes usually do on my skin. It's more fresh, cool, and sweet smelling, like frozen cranberries and a hint of booze, maybe. I expected this to be super-sweet, and it's not. It's really lovely. It reminds me of some of the cranberry scents that I've tried from Wylde Ivy (like Winter Cranberry). I love the fresh little sharpness that this gets on my skin. I feel like I'd really love Mason and Jenkin's Port Jelly as a bath oil. I love it layered with Mistletoe and some of my foodie and spicier scents as well. It's a little too simple for me by itself, though I do really like it. It would probably be nice layered with just about anything . I'm happy to have a partial bottle of this one.

    Pet Magah Bird

I love or like every single note in this. My only worry was that this scent would be way too sweet, and a lot of scents have been going cloying on my skin lately. Thenkfully, the blood orange here is pretty strong and the citrus note cuts through some of the sweetness. Blood orange, plum, and violet always have a bit of a darker feel for me, so they help to keep the blend from going into silly sweetness territory. The blood orange and plum are the strongest notes on my skin, with hints of the frangipani and coconut giving this a golden, slightly tropical feel (the coconut smells toasted on me). Every once in a while, I can smell more fruits or more of the violet. I don't smell the caramel or sugar at all, thankfully, because those notes would easily make this blend too sweet for me. Pet Magah Bird is citrus, plum, tropical, creamy, sweet (but not too sweet), and dark on me, all at once. It's exactly what I had hoped for. And the label art is just gorgeous if you're a bird fanatic like me.

    The Snack Hut

I was lured in with the promise of popcorn and fried things, lol, but all I can smell is the cherry. The Snack Hut smells exactly like red cherry lip balm on me. I'm hoping that this gets better and more complex with age...

    Story Time at Dark Delicacies

I don't tend to like lemon (too sharp on me) and I never think that the book/library themed perfumes really smell like old books, so I wasn't sure what to expect from Story Time. That said, I LOVE THIS. It really does smell like old books and the lemon really does smell like a sweet, pleasant lemon cookie <3. I get mostly lemony sugar cookies at first and the book smell comes out in the drydown as the cookies disappear. The drydown is like old paper, a hint of the softest, aged leather note, and a hint of incense that ties everything together and makes this smell just like a bunch of old books on me. It's really amazing how accurate it smells. It's the first perfume I've ever had that really captures that smell for me, and I've tried a lot of scents that were supposed to smell like books & libraries. This scent doesn't have much throw at first, but it does get stronger on me in the drydown. Story Time is just wonderful . I might need a second bottle of this one.

    Ded Moroz

I really like Ded Moroz (and my man loves this on me too), but I wish that it weren't so subtle. I can only smell this if I press my nose up to where it has been applied. It's very light and doesn't have much throw at all. It also only lasts about 2 hours on my skin before I have to reapply it. It's still lovely, though, and my man likes it enough that I can use it as a light scent when we're just staying in and cuddling. I'll probably get a full bottle of this. On to the scent - Ded Moroz smells like fuzzy, soft mint leaves and a wooden, vanilla-y amber on me. My man happily said that it smells like sweet flowers and trees, and I can definitely get the 'tree' impression from the soft wood tone of the ambers. It's a delicate, comforting scent, and the amber actually doesn't go powdery (bpal's ambers usually go powdery on me). I wish that it had more throw, but I'll love this on days when I feel like I can't handle a strong fragrance.

    Pink Snowballs

I was actually disappointed when I heard that this was Snow White + rose, because I figure that I can easily layer Snow White with a rose perfume on my own. This is really pretty, though. It's like the awesome, creamy vanilla from Snow White plus a fluffy, sweet, pink something and a hint of pink rose. I don't get any of the frosty green stem smell that I get from Snow White or Rose Red. Pink vanilla and a hint of rose. Sometimes I smell this and my brain thinks of cotton candy or marzipan mixed in with the vanilla and a pink rose. It's very pink, sweet, and lovely. I need at least one full bottle of this.

    Flora

In the bottle and on my skin at first, this smells oddly like a coconut & mango scented soap. I totally get a too sweet, fakey coconut scented suntan lotion smell from this. As it dries down, I start to get some of the chemical, perfumey sharpness from the florals, and a tart, apricot-like smell. I smell like I slathered on some bad, cloying suntan lotion and then drenched myself in cheap fruity-floral drugstore perfume. A tiny dab of this is still way too heavy, too sweet, and cheap smelling on me. I can't wear this one...

    Lulu

Lulu is a very clean, dry, sharp smelling floral on me. I get lots of tobacco flower, and so it reminds me of The Lady on the Grey at first. As it dries down, it just gets sharper and soapier on me. I'll have to agree with what a lot of reviewers have already said - Lulu is like a fancy, sharp, expensive floral hotel soap. It's a headache in a bottle for me. It's too sharp, too perfumey, and too soapy for me to handle.

    Hilma

My skin chemistry usually amps up rose and floral notes, and I tend to hate jasmine, so I wasn't expecting much from Hilma. I do love tea, cedar, and clove notes, though. To my surprise, this actually smells rather dark and complex on me. The cedar and clove mingle together in this dark, spicy way and the tea adds a cool, fresh, almost minty zap to the blend. I can smell lots of honeysuckle as well, and just a tiny hint of the rose. The honeysuckle makes me think of hot summer nights; it smells very sultry, heavy and perfumey. I kept expecting the florals to overpower the clove and cedar, but this scent stays very well balanced on my skin. Hilma is lots of honeysuckle and a dark, dry wood and spice smell. The combination of cedar and clove actually smells more like black pepper and dark, dry wood on me. The words 'dry' and 'dark' are what keep coming to mind. This smells like a sophisticated, dark, serious perfume. Where Josie is innocent and romantic and Countess Willie was playfully sexy to me, this is more serious-sexy. This is like the serious perfume of a woman who seriously knows what she wants and how to get it, and she's blunt and doesn't want to play games. I like it a lot, and I didn't expect to like this one at all.

    Crib Girls

In the bottle, this smells like some sort of creamy, sweet, lemon-raspberry gelato. On my skin, I have to agree with what a lot of reviewers have already mentioned. This smells like Froot Loops cereal on me (no milk, and with some extra emphasis on the lemony loop, lol). As it dries down, the lemon smell gets sharper and more like a lemon scented pledge. I expected this to be insanely sexy and unwearable for me (I don't often get along with honey notes, though I love the honey note in Josie), but I really don't smell any honey at all. I would think that this was the wrong blend if not for reading the other reviews, because Crib Girls doesn't smell like any of the listed notes to me. I like this well enough, but I probably won't wear it again. The lemon goes a little too sharp on me in the drydown. Still, if you ever wanted to smell like Froot Loops, you should probably give this scent a try. It is a fun, happy fragrance. I feel as though I would take an instant liking to someone who smelled like this, because it smells so sweet, energetic and happy.

    Josie

In the bottle, this smells like a sweet, innocent fruity-floral. On my skin, this is instant love . I love peach notes, and this is a sweet, juicy peach on me. It smells ripe rather than candied. The floral part goes creamy and heady on my skin, giving the peach a little lift and complexity. As it dries down, I can smell the honey. I don't normally like bpal's honey notes, but this is golden, smooth, and delicate honey. Something about this scent seems heated and sensual to me as well, like a hot southern night (perhaps the floral night playing very nicely on my skin). It's just gorgeous. Josie smells romantic and southern, and I think that she's my favorite of The District blends so far. It smells like the perfume of a young girl sneaking out of the mansion on a hot summer night to meet up with the guy she's crazy about <3.

    The First Soft Snow

The First Soft Snow has turned out to be one of my favorites of bpal's snow blends, much to my surprise. I usually amp up the snow note, making a lot of the snow blends smell too similar on me, or they go sharp thanks to the other notes. The narcissus is really strong in this blend, though, and manages to overpower the snow note in a good way. The snow note is like slushy, chilly aquatic, almost pine-y, but not quite. It's a good smell. I like the snow note more than I like most aquatic/ozone notes. The narcissus smells like a sweet, perfumey, yellow flower poking out from the snow. I like the sweetness a lot. It's almost narcissus single note on me in the drydown, with just a hint of the snow giving it a fresher feel. It makes me think of daffodils, which are my favorite flowers. This is a really pretty scent <3.

    Countess Willie

In the bottle and on my skin at first, this smells like I just opened up a bag of fresh, squishy gummi bears. I don't know how to describe it other than gummi bears, lol. I like the smell. I find it really cheery. Countess Willie starts to smell really awesome when the red musk and ginger come out to join the bears, though. My skin amps up red musk, which smells like a really sexy, red, almost smoky incense on me. So I'm getting sexy, warm incense, a little extra heat from the ginger, and a touch of sweetness from the candied fruits. It makes me feel exotic and sexy when I put it on, but it also smells happy and approachable. Over the hours, the candied fruit morphs more into a sultry plum smell, but the red musk and ginger stay strong, smelling hot and incensey. I actually bought this because it mentioned chocolate, but I don't smell anything like chocolate here at all. It's really awesome without the chocolate, though. Countess Willie is sexy, exotic, and playful smelling on me. I can see myself wearing this one a lot. :love!:

    Old Man Ackerman's Instructional Toys

I agree with Xanon that this reminds me of Tweedledee. In the bottle and on my skin at first, it smells like Tweedledee is splashing about in a tub full of lemony dish soap. As it dries down, it's less Tweedledee and more of a soft, honeyed orange note and fluffy soap bubbles. It actually smells a lot like Possets' "California" blend on me. Soft, honeyed orange splashing around in a bubble bath. After an hour, I get a little hint of bpal's shiny metal note (sort of cool, ozoney soap and cologne), as though the honeyed oranges have emerged from their bubble bath and splashed on a bit of cologne that I don't really care for. This blend just isn't working for me. The citrus is too sweet and mellow, and the blend is overall too soapy and the drydown is too ozoney-sharp.

    Evening Cicadas and Red Peppers

My first thought was that this smells the way that glossy, shimmery wings look, if that's possible. It smells sort of glassy, cool, sweet and enchanting. I can smell the leaves at first, and they smell like fall leaves that are damp on the ground, mingling with a little bit of sweet, pale green grass. Then the scent goes through a smoky, perfumey phase that I don't like (reminds me of smelling a clean, fresh perfume on a girl who has been smoking cigarettes). The drydown after about a half hour is rather pretty, though. I think that it's reminding me a bit of Dolce & Gabbana's "Light Blue" fragrance, but this is more smooth and watery, with hints of sweet musk. Evening Cicadas strikes me as smelling more like some of the scents that I could pick up at a department store, but softer than most of those scents. It's like smooth, bright, shimmery aquatic, a hint of dry leaves, sweet musk, and maybe a touch of delicate floral perfume on me. I like this, but (in a strange way) I can imagine this being a good scent for a lot of girls that I don't particularly get along with. I feel like it's not really "me." I keep flipping between really liking it and finding it really off-putting... :/

    Now Winter Nights Enlarge

I'm not sure if I've ever disliked a bpal scent quite as much as I dislike this one. It's unbearably sweet and makes me feel sick to my stomach when I smell it. I love vanilla, red musk, and patchouli, so I had high hopes for this. On my skin, though, this is like brown sugar, butter, burnt white sugar, and caramel baked together. For the first five minutes, I smell a hint of incensey, sexy red musk, but it's quickly swallowed by overwhelming, burnt sweetness. I only applied a tiny dab of this to my wrist and it's been going strong for 5 hours. I'm going to scrub it off and go to bed now. I expected this to be one of my favorites of the yules, but I really hate it. It's scary sweet and burnt sugary. It's gag inducing.

    Emma

Emma is sweet tea rose and perfumey, slightly smoky jasmine on me. I don't get any vanilla, pepper, or patchouli, but my skin does tend to amp up rose and jasmine notes. This smells rather boring on me, and I don't really like these classic perfumey floral type scents. I wish that I could say more about it, but it's just a perfumey floral rose on me. There are a lot of bpal rose blends that I prefer over this one.

    Vampire Tarot: The Magician

This reminds me of blends like On Darkness and Scattered Gloom (only this isn't as good as those two blends are on me). It smells of dark, syrupy sweet resins and woods. I can't pick out any one of the listed notes exactly, but it smells like dry, polished wood buildings covered in something sticky and sweet, that makes me think of molasses. The smooth, resinous quality reminds of Midnight Mass and Cathedral. And then there's an odd undertone to the whole thing that I'm not liking (it almost smells like menthol or something medicinal?). The Magician smells similar to a lot of blends that I already own & love, but not as good, so I won't need a full bottle of this. I probably won't keep my decant...

    Snowball Fracas

I really hoped that this would smell like dirt + bpal's snow note on me (I had it in my mind that this would smell like mud and be awesome). I don't smell any dirt or earth notes here at all, though. Snowball Fracas smells like bpal's frozen, watery, slightly sweet snow note, plus an extra hint of sweet pillow mints and dryer sheets. It's a little too sharp, bright, and clean smelling for me. It makes my throat feel tight and my head ache after a while.
  22. Little Bird

    Gacela of the Dark Death

This smells really scary in the bottle. It's sharp, bright, harsh pine that conjures up images of Pine-Sol cleanser for me. On my skin, this is sharp pine cleanser, spicy clove, and a hint of woodsmoke. The coolness of the pine note paired with the warm clove note is interesting, but I don't really like it or want to smell like this. The pine note here is just too sharp for me, and starts to give me a headache after a while

    Sue's Great Old Puppet Show

In the bottle, this smells like chocolate mixed with the original Milk Moon. On my skin, the chocolate disappears and this smells exactly like the original '05 version of Milk Moon. It's like a soft, delicate vanilla cream with hints of milky caramel and marshmallow. It's amazing how much this smells like Milk Moon for the first fifteen minutes or so on my skin. Over time, the chocolate note here creeps back in and stirs things up (and smells just like a cup of warm hot cocoa <3) and the sweetness calms down and softens. I agree that the drydown is more like Boo's vanilla cream + Bliss's chocolate. It smells soft, sweet, and pretty. I love puppets, so I'm glad that this puppet themed scent works on me
  24. Little Bird

    The Nameless City Drive-In Theatre

In the bottle, this has a fresh, cool, airy smell mixed with crisp green grass. On my skin, it takes on a manly freshness that makes me think of axe body spray at first. It's like laying with a teenage boy on a blanket of green grass, which isn't awesome now that I'm in my 20s, lol. Thankfully, the drydown isn't so overapplied-cologne-of-teenage-boy, and it's actually quite lovely. I don't smell any popcorn or leather here at all. The drydown of this smells sort of like the scent of laundry hanging outside to dry and hints of green grass wafting in through an open window in late spring. It's nice, because normally this sort of scent (fresh, clean, airy) goes to soap on me, and this isn't soapy at all. I think that I like this more as a room scent than as a perfume, but I might wear this one every once in a while, if it doesn't get sacrificed as a room fragrance first. This is definitely my favorite of the green grass type scents that bpal has done.

    The Black Temple Burlesque Troupe

Cacao, black musk, and tobacco absolute. In the bottle (and on my skin), this smells sweet, dark, slightly earthy, and *amazing.* It sort of reminds me of aged Hurricane mixed with Boomslang. It has that rich, deep, resinous cocoa smell that I get from Boomslang, with the dark earthiness that reminds me of Hurricane. I don't normally like tobacco (it can smell gritty, dirty, and gross on me) or black musk (smells like cheap men's cologne on me), but somehow this blend just smells awesome. I think that the sweet smoothness of the cocoa is rounding out and softening the dark muskiness, while the tobacco adds a gorgeous, earthy, almost resinous smell. It smells sort of like a manly version of Boomslang. My husband doesn't like to wear foodie, sweet scents, but this smells dreamy on him. He actually likes this scent and didn't think that it smelled too chocolatey. I love this scent <3. I'll need to get a full bottle of this for the hubby (and for me to steal from him every once in a while).
