    413 U.S. 15 / Miller Vs. California

I agree with it smelling somewhat like Eden - it has a soft greenish fig note as one of the dominant notes and I can only keep thinking that brown paper bag = teak or something. It's VERY woody. It's a lovely blend but a bit woody for my tastes.
  2. The yuzu is quite strong at first, it's very bright and crisp but the labdanum creeps in after that and pretty much dominates this blend. With the citrus notes and the tuberose and neroli, this blend ends up unfortunately very "perfumey" and indistinct on me.

    Giant Vulva

Giant Vulva is Xiutehcuhtli's more refined but quieter cousin. The copal is loud and clear in this and it's gorgeous - it dries into a really "soft" version of Xiutehcuhtli, so if you like that scent (like I do), Giant Vulva is a good choice. The drydown is very close to your skin and has a more subtle throw but is absolutely lovely.

GORGEOUS OMG it's all peach bubblegum and carnations!! I WANT TO ROLL IN IT! Seriously though, it's so pretty. If you're not a fan of POW! Fruity! scents, then avoid this. It's VERY peachy. It has a candy-ish edge to it backed by a lovely carnation note.

    Pontia

POW! Lavender! BAM! Bergamot! And that's it in a nutshell - it is what it says it is!

My grandfather had colognes in a wooden cabinet - things like Brut and Old Spice and some older more vintage scents. And when I opened that cabinet, this is the smell that came out. Like a hodgepodge of various masculine scents layered over a distinctly woody smell. It is not good or bad, it just conjures that image for me. As it dries down, the bitter clove becomes more and more evident, but it stays distinctly masculine all the way through in my opinion.

    Dia

Though I would not have guessed it from the notes, Dia reminds me a lot of Titania. It's softly floral with an airy sweetness and a bit of fruitiness. A clean scent, but not in the traditional sense of that word. It seems very "white" and pretty - feminine but not overly floral OR fruity OR sweet.

As with most rose blends, this is mostly rose on my skin. I do get a golden grassiness behind that though which at least makes this less blaring-headache-inducing-rose. If you have issues with rose then you're probably not going to fare much better with this one than I did. But if you LIKE rose, I think the golden grassy note here compliments it well!

    Symmakhia

Rose tends to be "single note rose" in any blend on me - it just dominates. So I was a bit surprised that this blend was NOT dominating rose. The rose is a bit softer here, and backed by a girly sweet pear and grape combo. It reminds me a bit of that sweet pear scent Victoria's Secret used to have - called Pear Glace I think? It has a really girly and feminine vibe to it but doesn't go overboard with the floral. That being said though, if you're not a big fan of floral you probably still aren't going to like this. Subdued as the rose may be, it's still there. It's a nice blend though, not for me for the rose reason, but pleasant!

    Bah!

My BPAL disappointment of 2008 seriously I am so sad about this - after Pinched, I was hoping for another coffee scent and then BAM! Along comes Bah! It sounded perfect for me. Alas, it was not. I have seen people say that something smells like cat pee on them so many times on this forum. But I have never experienced that for myself (really, I've never had a BPAL smell like that - maybe something didn't jive with my chemistry, but nothing that extreme). But this was it for me - my first cat pee reaction. It smells like my cat box (acrid!) and week old, bitter coffee grounds. It's unfortunately awful on me Ah well, you win some you lose some - I was just REALLY rooting for Bah! ;_; *makes herself a cup of coffee and weeps over it*

    Bah Humbug Atmospheric Spray

Crazy throw on this one! It's very strongly scented and one spray is good enough for a large room. Sort of masculine, but in a nice way - cedar and a tiny bit of leather and patchouli - it's more woody than leathery and it's quite nice! I probably would not have purchased this by itself, but all the same I'll still be using mine and enjoy it

    Humbug

Not as anise-y or vanilla-y as I was hoping for. Vaguely anise scented light vanilla - it's pretty faint on both accounts. Might age well, but right now it's just hasn't got as much oomph as I was hoping for.

    The Deep Ones

R'lyeh's darker and more gothic cousin. Deep, salty aquatic with bitter grapefruit.

The High Priest Not To Be Described

Definitely an incense blend - this is strong frankincense at first, but settles into a softer tone accented by leather and musk. Has an overall masculine feel to me, though it isn't particular sharp or leathery - it just seems like something a man would wear. I noticed quite a few people were getting cinnamon, but I don't get even the faintest hint of it here.

Down the Rabbit Hole Atmosphere Spray

I was given this sample, thank you BPTP! I don't know if it was because I subconciously think of the BPAL scent "Alice" when I see this spray or what, but I got something more akin to Alice than to the dirt and orange scent everyone else is getting. For me, it was a very bright, spring-time floral backed by a subtle sweetness and a crisp tea not (could that be the dirt that is smelling like tea to me? Odd but it must be!). It was very pretty but too feminine and floral for my personal tastes (I prefer a "huskier" room spray in my home). No doubt people will enjoy this one if they like something a little more spring like I think

    MVJBA: Pancake Breakfast

Thanks to Dark Alice for gifting me a lovely tester of this! I wish I were getting pancakes out of this, but it smells more like BPAL's Sugar Cookie (which itself did not smell great on me.. sort of plasticy vanilla unfortunately) with boysenberry. All of it fades very quickly on my skin. The boysenberry note is really nice but no longer noticeable after the first 2 or 3 minutes. Total miss for me unfortunately

    Love's Torments

Sharp vetiver with a touch of neroli, pretty straightforward.

    Incubus

The black musk sort of worried me at first, because it's often pungent and unpleasant on me, and when I first put this on, that's what I got. But it quickly disipates into a soft skin scent - something only touched slightly by caramel sweetness and a thin mint. If you are afraid of really minty scents, I wouldn't worry with this - it's very vague in this scent. It's really a close-to-your-body scent.

    Schrodinger's Cat

I didn't recall what the notes were in this one until I had already tried on the scent and looked it up. But the first thing I thought when I tried it on was, "Tangerine!" and indeed, that's what it is I don't get chocolate peppermint... at all. I mean, I've been trying to sniff that out in this scent and I just... don't get it. I do get tangerine and lime and lavender though, and it reminds me a great deal of Cheshire Cat. It's pleasant in it's citrusy herbal uplifting vibe, but not for me.

    Fascinum

Most of these notes work well on me in other scents, but in this combination... they just don't jive with me. This comes off as slightly spiced lemon verbena with a touch of woodiness. It's not bad at all, in any regard. It just reminds me of a soap...like a soap you would get at Crabtree & Evelyn or something, a spa soap sort of.

    The Gaoler's Daughter

d'awwww a disappointment I thought I was going to be in love with this scent because of the peach, vanilla and cream and honey. But the gardenia totally mucks it up (sorry gardenia, no offense) and makes this far more floral than I anticipated. The peach is so faint against the neroli and gardenia and the honey sweetens it all up a tiny bit, but the vanilla and cream never show up. The result is a pretty enough scent, but a little too floral for me.

    The Head of Holofernes

This goes on very grape-y (am I the only one who thinks grape scents and wine scents are distinctly different? The two things smell very different from me, though wine involves grapes, it smells different than just grapes). This scent is a real head scratcher for me... the notes in this are ones that I wear in scents frequently and know how they behave. But nothing in this "works" on me the way it normally would. The leather is almost non-existant, which just never happens for me. The tonka never shows up and the grapes are very grapey (and not wine-y) and dominate this scent like woah. It's not a bad scent at all, just totally not what I was expecting! I was hoping for more leather, so I think this is probably not a keeper for me.

    Badger

Smells exactly like you think it would! It's warm earth, rooty and dirty and deep. The cedar is light but definitely present, and the effect is a scent that is earthy and sort of wild but comforting in a strange way. It's not something I could wear as a personal scent, but it's certainly appealing in it own right!

    Nuclear Winter

Oh my, I'm so sad about this one I have wanted Nuclear Winter since it's original release because I'm a huge fan of mint scents (minty minty minty for the win!). When it got released again this year I had to get some finally. But it is so not what I was expecting at all. I don't get very much mint in this - the green and grassy note is the most predominant in this blend, followed by a wet/aquatic tone and then some crisp mint. This is not (in my mind) a very wintery blend, it instead makes me think of the Spring with it's watery green tone. The mint fades on me pretty quickly so the end scent is a pretty and refreshing aquatic, but since I'm not a fan of aqautics, it's definitely not for me. It's not a bad scent at all, my disappointment is more that it was not what I was expecting. I think people who enjoy aquatic blends will enjoy this one.

    Gelt

A bounty of chocolate coins! Dry cocoa and golden amber! I always WANT to love BPAL chocolate scents. I keep trying with them, hoping that they will be "the one". Unfortunately, Gelt is a continuation of my previous lessons in their chocolate notes. Gelt goes on a little oddly - a sort of sour amber, it's weird because I don't usually have issue with amber (this only lasts for a minute though). The chocolate is dry and powdery - not like milk chocolate, but like if you opened up a can of cocoa powder. In the end, it just smells like dry cocoa and though the wear and throw is decent on it, it's a fairly flat scent on me. Unfortunately, it's another no-win chocolate scent for me
