    Arachnina, The Spider Girl (2006)

This goes very, very floral perfumey on me. The lilies are dominant, with the poppies close behind. It is a heady, light, swirly women's perfume. There is a light under current of fruitiness, which must be the currant note. The musks and the patchouli fade into the background to create a hazy, smoky, somewhat sexy back drop for the blend. I was expecting this to smell a bit more like Mme. Moriarty, but this is more of a floral blend rather than smoky/musky. This is gorgeous, don't get me wrong, just a bit too floral for me. These kind of blends never last very long on me, so I tend to steer clear of them. This does seem to have medium to strong throw for a floral base. Very pretty

    Isaac, the Living Skeleton (2006)

Whoa! Bourbon! Booze, booze and more booze! A very dry and sharp scent, definitely sleazy, masculine, and bar drunk. There is a thin hint of the tobacco, and it smells more like tobacco leaf than smoke. It's more spicy/sharp than smoky/deep. On the dry down: the "sleazy cologne" note shows itself a little more. The sharpness of the alcohol isn't quite so in your face any more, and it settles into a less frantic and shocking blend. This is an undeniably strong blend with tons of throw. It's screaming "I've been swimming in a bottle of bourbon for the last 5 hours!" Well not quite my thing, but certainly unique in its own right. Boozey blend lovers: here ya go!!

The Wild Men of Jezirat al Tennyn (2006)

Spicy, firey, throbbing. The top notes on me are the red amber, cloves and the ambergris. It's a spicy, red musky scent that is deepened by the earthiness of the spanish moss and ambergris. The Indonesian pathcouli is floating along underneath, which gives the blend a bit of an incensey feel. I don't know the difference between regular patchouli and Indonesian patchouli, but I can tell the Indonesian variety is quite a bit deeper and spicier. This is definitely a masculine blend, and probably drop dead sexy on the right man. This has a lot of throw and sticking power. This is not the kind of blend I would wear, but I would love for my man to slather on this one.

    Tiresias, the Androgyne

Holy freakin' schmoly this is fabulous!! God, I never imagined it would smell this good!! The top notes are caramel and black currant. The caramel is strong, sweet and gooey; delicious. There is an amazing woodsy undertone; like a spicy, sexy wood note. The tobacco leaf is subtle, but it gives the blend a really complex, sultry feel. On the dry down, the caramel relaxes a little and becomes a really mellow sweetness. This is amazingly sweet but spicy and sexy all at the same time. I just LOVE this blend, y'all just need to sniff this one yourselves to truly appreciate it. Fabulous, original, I will definitely be purchasing a 5 ml

    Australian Copperhead (2006)

God, this smells fabulous!! I don't know what acai berries are, but I guess I like them!! This is snake oil with a berrilicious, creamy smooth undertone. It sort of reminds me of raspberry cremesicles with a soft vanilla ice cream. I can't stop sniffing, it smells so yummy! The smoked vanilla really gives this a sweetness that is missing from the original snake oil. It's like snake oil has been massively amped up with berries and creme. Although fruity, this is still very sexy. This is the first of the Snake Pit that I have tried, I am sooo looking froward to all the rest!! Gorgoeus!!

Oh this is just lovely! I have never sniffed an apple blend from the lab that I didn't love, and this is no exception. This is a very unique apple blend. The apple note is deep and rich; not at all like the apple note in Blockbuster. This is not overly fruity; but at the same time there is no mistaking its apple-ness. Does that make any sense? The amber note gives this blend a sweet but complex feel; it's a very odd combo but it works really well. I would classify this as a sexy/fruity blend. It has medium throw. I like this very much, it's just beautiful!

    The Darkling Thrush

This is definitely winter at the lab!! It has the famous BPAL frozen winter note, and it reminds me quite a bit of Ice Queen. It's not quite as fruity as Ice Queen, and has more of a minty twist to it. It's like the Ice Queen's quiet little brother. The soft mint undertone is lovely; not at all sharp or overwhelming like some mint blends. There is a beautiful softness to the Darkling Thrush, which I'm guessing is the effect of the amber note. I like this much more than I thought I would from the desription, I am a huge Ice Queen fan and this is almost a worthy substitute

    The Winter of Our Discontent

Ohhh, sharp and strong. It smells very pottpourri - ish to me. I am getting just mostly the bitter clove and the rosewood. It reminds me very much of a potpourri scent my friend use to have it a bowl at her house. There is a spiciness in the background; as well as a hint of a smoky/resinous note. This is a dark red scent for me. It has strong throw and staying power. This is definitely not my kind of thing, so I am glad I got a decant first!

    The Carpathian Mountains

Whoa, spearmint!! Very, very strong spearmint. Like inhaling the air from a candy tin that has housed hundreds of sticks of Wrigley's and Extra gum. There is a peculiar earthiness that just barely shows itself underneath the spearmint; this must be the lichens and mountain air. Definitely a frozen winter blend. Very strong, with strong throw and strong staying power. I'm glad I tried an imp of this first, because this is definitely not my thing.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one yet; this was one of my first BPAL loves. This is my favorite general catalogue floral blend by far. It is a PERFECT tea rose blend; strong, feminine, exquisitely perfumey. I'm usually not a fan of violet, but it really compliments the rose note perfectly in this blend. This is very bright, happy, and elegant. It has a lot of throw and lasting power for a floral, which is what initially attracted me to it. This was one of my first 5 ml purchases, and an instant BPAL classic. Beautiful!!

    Dark Delicacies

When I first applied this one, I thought that it reminded me of Hexxannacht. Then I applied some Hexx to my other wrist to compare, and they are quite different. But, Dark Delicacies has that same, lovely, smoky, earthy feel to it. It's an incensey smell, but has a gorgeously smooth undertone that prevents any sharpness at all. The longer I wear it, the more the smooth coconut note comes out. It fades to a beautiful patchouli scent with a creamy base of orchids and coconut. I can definitely see the comparison to Black Moon; this has the same dark, naughty feel to it. It doesn't have a ton of throw, but it is lovely enough to reapply. This is just a gorgeous blend, very sexy and soft. I love it, definitely a keeper.

    Hellion

Oooo, plum and patchouli, what a beautiful combination!! This is a dark, fruity scent with a gorgeous undertone of sexy, smoky muskiness. I can detect a hint of sandalwood at the very back of the scent. It's uniquely fruity while being musky at the same time; a rather contradictory scent. I really like this and have never smelled anything like it. Unfortunately not a ton of throw or sticking power. Very nice

    Sol Invictus

This is indeed a very red scent. The top notes on me are amber and a combination of citrusey scents. There is a bit of a smoky, incensey note floating in the background, which I guess would be the frankincense. There is a hint of bright frangipani at the very back of the scent. It has medium throw, but I'm wagering quite a bit of sticking power. This is a bright, sharp scent, and very lovely. It is not really my type of thing, but very pretty just the same.

    Dana O'Shee

The most gorgeous, perfect oatmeal, milk and honey scent ever!! Sweet, beautiful, feminine and one of my all time favorite scent combinations. I would love to swim in rivers of this scent. I only wish it would last on me, it is very fleeting in all its glory. Lovely, a true BPAL classic

    Hymn to Proserpine

Ohhh yeah, this is gorgeous! A beautiful, deep, golden brown amber scent. This is pure loveliness in a bottle!! There is a rich deep undertone of juicy, wet fruits. I love amber scents so much, and this is probably one of the best I've ever smelled. There is a hint of fragrant powdery softness as well, but it is not an icky or overwhelming powder. What can I say? I love this one and I think I need a 5 ml!!

    La Fée Verte

At first sniff: Citrusey, lemony; sharp but sweet at the same time. Very contradictory. The top note smells like sugared lemon, like lemon head candy. There is a gorgeous, smooth honey undertone, which is very much like the honey note in Honey Moon. An unusual but lovely spiciness runs beneath the whole thing. On the dry down: The honey note really begins to dominate. It's so strong and commanding, but has the most amazing innocence about it. This reminds me a bit of Gennivre (Artist of the Diabolique). Overall I like this one very much. I really didn't think I would, but now I am longing for a bottle!!

    Eris

Oh my, why have I never tried this one?! She is a lovely scent, bright, yellow, fruity and sweet. There's a sharp but lovely citrus note, but I can also smell other fruitiness in the background. Something like pears perhaps? The floral shadows the fruits, and it is so amazingly feminine and beautiful. This is a youthful, radiating high spirited scent, and I think I definitely need a 5 ml!!

    Carfax Abbey

Dark, creeping, earthy scent. It smells like vetiver to me, or something similar. There's that same strong mustiness that doesn't quite agree with my skin. There is a hint of smokiness in the background, but it's faint. Like the wafting breeze of far off chimney smoke. This is a dark brown scent, and has medium throw but lots of sticking power. This is definitely not my thing, the super earthy ones smell like leaf piles on my skin.

    Knecht Ruprecht

This reminds me of one of my all time favorites, Ice Queen. This is very much like Ice Queen, except instead of fruity notes combined with the icy chill, it's a bit more of piney notes combined with ice. I love that beautiful winter/ice note that the lab uses; it is soo beautiful on my skin. This is just lovely, and a perfect replacement for the elusive Ice Queen. It has medium throw but strong sticking power. I will certainly hold on to my 5 ml of this.

    Jólasveinar

Wow, this is a tough one to describe! I think the top notes are mainly the orchids and the sugared note of the pastries. When I first sniffed it, I thought "sugary" immediately, but as I continue to wear it, it turns a little bit more into a wintery floral with foody notes as the backdrop. There is definitely a "chilly" feeling to this scent, although the orchids lighten it up a bit and make it a little feminine. I think my skin is really pulling the florals out of this one. Jolasveinar is quite unique, and very lovely.

    Bakeneko

At first sniff: Hmmm, spicy, warm, strong. The cinnamon is on top, with a deep, heated amber musk underneath. This has a lot of throw and is very strong when first applied. There is something very feline and animalistic about this. This perfectly embodies the idea of the Bakeneko. There is a lot of sticking power to this blend; it's one of those ones you can wash off with soap but still smell it. This is a beautiful, sexy blend, but a little too cinnamon for my taste. Perfect for those who love musky cinnamon scents. A fun blend.

    Hunger Moon

This is very citrusey blend for me. It is light, effervescent, fruity and lovely. I can't smell the oakmoss or sage at all, pretty much just white sandalwood and a heavy lemony overtone. Gosh I wish I had more to say, but this is a pretty straight forward blend. It's like sipping effervescent lemonade on a gorgeous spring day. A very innocent blend; not a lot of throw, it's more of a skin clinger. Overall, very nice if you are a citrusey person. This is a very youthful blend
  23. QueenFae

    Frost Moon

Cold, shivering, icy blend. Deep blue, very reminescent of chewing spearmint gum on a chilly winter's night when the moon is full and the sky is clear. That fantastic winter note the lab uses is in there, and it really reminds me of chill, night time winds. This is very sharp, the eucalyptus is the dominant note, with the minty freshness close behind. This is crystalline, clean, freezing, and lovely. Strong throw and sticking power, especially for a lunar blend. The perfect Frost Moon, I love it.

    The Bloody Sword

This so perfectly embodies the essence of a Bloody Sword, I am amazed by Beth's genius once again! First sniff: Dragon's Blood. Definitely a "red" scent. Undertones of leather and pepper. I'm usually not a fan of leather or pepper blends, but they are honestly really subtle in this blend. They make it deeper and more complex. I can somehow smell the "fire and steel". There is something really ashy and burnt in there, as well as the metallic bite of steel. On the dry down: Not much different. Definitely not a morphing blend. Straight up firey dragon's blood blend. I like this a lot more than I thought I would, and I may even hold on to my decant.

    Trick #1

Ooo la la, this is divine!! It's a lovely red musk scent; sexy and sensuous to the extreme! The dominant notes are red musk, patchouli, and honeysuckle. This smells so much softer and sweeter than I imagined it would be! The vanilla bean floats beneath, sweetening up the undertones just enough to be sinful . This is the type of scent I want to wear to feel ultra sexy and most definitely naughty. On the dry down: Sweet, sweet red musk. A touch of leather and a drop of vanilla bean. Ahhh, I must get my hands on a bottle of this!! Beautiful, I love it!
