    Nanny Ashtoreth

OK, this is pretty trippy. I get the leather and wood that other people are getting, but at the very beginning, it smells like leather and celery on me! Fortunately, that changes quickly. It's not the same as any other BPAL leather scent, but the leather is definitely the predominant note here. But there's some smoothness peeking out behind it that keeps getting more complicated and good. I suspect this will age beautifully.

    The Ifrit

Hayet's right: this is sexy evil baby powder -- and I mean that in a GOOD way. The ginger and the tobacco do wild sweet naughty things in this one. And the dragon's blood is dancing with the red musk. This is a wild thing. Confusing swirling dizzying and yet soft and enfolding. Sexy evil baby powder. And now I want an Ifrit cab air freshener thingie! Might have to make one, as soon as I decide what shape to cut out and scent with the oil.

    Snow, Glass, Apples

I don't usually like apple scents either, but a friend gave me some of this to try, and it so perfectly encompasses the title that I do believe I must love it -- and the apple, miraculously, does not go to compost on me. YAY! The frosty clarity of this scent is pretty amazing, combined with the apples. It's a delicate menacing sweet clear thing, frozen and pretty and dangerous, if that makes any sense.

    Fairy Market

Wow. I love this. I so did not expect to like a floral this much, but there it is. The flowers are soft, and there is such sweetness. I cannot identify any incense as such, but it's probably there softening the edges of things and adding a nice middle and lower set of notes. This reminds me of the one other floral I love, Pink Moon 05. They're not alike, but there's something so perfectly delicately sweet about both of them. I'm so glad a friend gave me a bottle of this yesterday!

    Red Moon 2004

God, I love this stuff. I treasure my imp of it. I don't know why I love it so much -- it's very floral on me, strong and heady, and I mostly go for incensey stuff or darker stuff, but this does something very good to my head. The sweetness that happens between the heliotrope and the dragon's blood, with the orange peel and the amber in there... something about it is just pure magic. It's just... I don't even usually think of scents like this, and I always forget how much it affects me... until I wear it again. I'll be sad when the imp runs out.

    Love's Philosophy

Yikes! I get mega monster wintergreen here. Not sure I can wait it out until the drydown -- and I *like* wintergreen. *cries* Drat. Drat drat drat. Oh, well, somebody else will probably love it. Edit: This stuff sure has staying power. And now it smells like plastic doll hair on me. Dratted skin chemistry! Edited again: And now, more than twelve hours later, the waft has turned into something beautiful. However, I won't have the patience to wait out the earlier stages. Off to swaps it goes.

    Phoenix Steamworks

Just got mine this morning. Woo! Steamworks is... definitely cologney on me. It's very nice, a metallic tang to it, some ozone in it, and some nice middle notes that I can't identify. Unfortunately, my skin chemistry is taking it in a direction that doesn't work, so I suspect my bottle with be used to enable friends, or be swapped to somebody who will adore it -- and I am sure there will be many, because this is a very good, very complex scent. I'd be disappointed, but the shirt is so gorgeous that I can't even be unhappy about the oil not being a match for my skin chemistry. Addendum: Or I might just have to age it. I wonder how this one mellows down as time passes. Could be great later.

    Ostara

Alas, I tested Ostara again today to see whether my initial response when I got the bottle was correct, and it was: my skin chemistry and the roses do not agree, for they go soapy. Also, something goes peppery and weird-herbal-sharp, almost like bug spray. Silly skin chemistry. This will probably be saved for swaps or Switch Witchery, or used to enable a friend, because it just doesn't work on me. Oh, well.

    Ivanushka

Hmm! I really wasn't sure I liked this at first -- too much high-pitched musk or something -- but it's aging like a dream, and now it smells pretty good on me. The powderiness is not awful, but is soft and nice and not screechy like some powdery stuff gets on me. (Um, incoherent much? Yep, I am.) Anyhow, the whole scent is mellowing and coming together very nicely now, and is a soft musk with delicate woods and what seems like a hint of amber and sweetgrass. It's sort of like a third cousin of Buck Moon or something. Whatever it is, it's a keeper now.

Campfires, bonfires, fireplaces, burning wood and leaves...

Any new suggestions here? I'm on a smoke-and-incense kick lately....

    Castitas Bath Oil

Sweet, soft, and creamy. This is just lovely! I mostly like things that bubble instead of oils, but I decided to give this a try, and I am so glad I did! (I am also tremendously grateful for the excellent BPTP customer service after a bit of a shipping mishap. Puddin' is a deity of fixing stuff, that's all I can say.) I can see the comparisons to Chaste Moon people are making. To me, it's not quite that, as it's got its own sweet simplicity. I think the rice flower is especially lovely here. I look forward to many, many happy baths with this. (Tried it on my hair, too, but it's too oily there. I have that sorta fine blonde stuff. Probably restorative, though, once in a while -- and it sure made it smell nice.)

    51

Hmm. Can't recall if I tried 51 before, but wore it today in case I hadn't. It started out all melon, with some guava there too, and something very green and flowery... except flowery-fruit, if you know what I mean. It was quite intriguing, but then my skin turned it into something sweet-but-boring. Sigh. I think it's a bit too light and sweet for me. Still, a nifty scent, and probably perfect on someone else. To swaps and enabling goes the imp.

    Storyville

There's something around the spice and the musk at first, something almost sharp that I cannot describe, but it settles soon into a complex, warm, sweet, and sensual blend. I'm so glad my skin chemistry likes this one. It dries down to vanilla and musk and spices and something indisputably New Orleans. Beautiful scent, very well made.

    Green Phoenix

Wow. When this goes on, it immediately amps up into Welcome To The Land Of Happy Green Melons! It's actually very close to what Fee does on me, and I was surprised to learn there's no honeydew melon in here, or whatever it is that makes Fee so good. (It didn't do this on the other people who tested it near me, so something's mixing in good ways with my skin chemistry, which is notoriously fickle.) It stays good, although it goes pretty soft as time goes on. Oh, well, this can be slathered. And the Land of Happy Melons phase is great. Must Have Bottle.

    Noche Buena

Wow. I never would have picked this to be one I liked, but I love it! It starts out with strong sharp high plumeria, but it's so lovely. There's green in there, but the sage is not overpowering as I feared. There's something lilylike, which I suppose is the Mexican tiger lilies, but it doesn't go bad on me like most lilies do. Altogether it is wonderful and complicated and it's that rare miracle: a high floral that smells good on me and that I love. Must have bottle.

    Mechanical Phoenix

This stuff is fascinating. It really does smell like machines and a little cologne, and there's a hot machine oil scent coming up now, or maybe it's hot metal. It reminds me a lot of friday or saturday night shift at the factory, about thirty years ago, when Rico Martinez would come up behind me and start singing, "Amorcita corazon, yo tengo tentacion..." and I could smell his cologne. I can hear the noise of the machines on the line now....

    Blood Phoenix

I'll have to see what this does once it settles down, but the initial scent when it hits my skin is terrifying: it's Ti-D-Bowl! Darned skin chemistry. *mutter, grumble, laugh* OK, now there's incense coming up, and the Eau de Loo Cleaner is fading, but yikes! I sure didn't expect that. I hope there's more grape later. Grape and incense would be good.

    Midnight Mass

I must respectfully beg to differ; that seems the perfect time to feel that way! Midnight Mass is resiny incensey goodness on me, and the pine (cedar, I guess) is nice, after I get past the tiny hint of banana that seems to come up early on my skin whenever I'm wearing something with this note. (Freshly-sawn pine boards have a tinge of banana scent to my nose, too, so maybe it's just that my smeller is off.) Back to the feeling sexy and naughty part: I once put on some Midnight Mass and a bit later had the occasion to tell a dear friend of mine "I am wearing an Oysterband t-shirt, a wicked grin, and I smell like church." His response was ... gratifying. Keltic, I hope you can find an incense blend that works with your skin chemistry. I think I've found one of my favorites in Midnight Mass.

    Fruitcake

I got a frimp of Fruitcake in a mysterious Lab package which I didn't order, and which I can only assume is from my Switch Witch. (Yay! Thank you, mysterious ninja witch!) In the imp it smells exactly like fruitcake. Very nice! On me, the fruitcake takes on a tiny bit of a bitter edge and the merest hint of a burned smell (dang skin chemistry!), so it'll probably be a room scent or maybe I'll have to get a scent locket. Lovely work, though. Very well done.

Why are LEs limited? Will they come back?

Hmm. Thanks for your reply. That makes buying zodiac scents tricky! I've got to plan in November to get a scent in time for January! Alas. I'll go check the swaps page-- thanks for the suggestion. Don't give up hope. And if you don't find it in Swaps, you could post in the Wanted section there, so somebody with an extra bottle might see you need some.

    Capricorn 2007

Oh, God. Just got this, and am testing a little of it, and it is absolutely fascinating. Pine, yes, but much more than that: the cypress is giving it depth, and the other plants are giving it some greenness, but a kind I can wear. (Yes! ) Whatever the deep-but-sweet note is, it seems to be working on me. There's a tiny edge of honey and a tiny hint of something sweet and sour all at once, but it's great with the pine. I'm so glad I got a bottle of this. And to think I almost didn't, because I have Capricorn issues.

    Midwinter's Eve

Oh, man. Midwinter's Eve is wonderful fruity goodness! Berries and fruits and sweetness in the snow. Love it! Want bottle. So glad I tried this!

    Angeronalia

Alas, Angeronalia and my skin chemistry are not playing nicely with each other at all. Put it on, and it instantly became cleaning products. As in "Cleaning Products! Now with fresh lemongrass!" Eek. A few minutes later, it became "Cleaning Products! Now, with added Poo!" YIKES! My skin chemistry is cruel sometimes. Wah. I think it's something about the olive blossom, the lemongrass, and the gardenia. Whatever it is, this scent is not for me. Oh, well. later: Gave it to Jenett. Enabling is fun, and it's handy to have a scent opposite. Well, not exactly opposite, but enough of the time so that it's pretty useful.

Shub-Niggurath Soap (by Silk Road Trading Company)

I loves me some Shub soap! For some reason, the oil itself didn't grab me, back when it first came out, but the soap changed that completely. The creamy-ginger scent from the soap does linger softly and very nicely, and I love the way it scents the whole bathroom. I'm traveling at the moment, and regretting not bringing a little slice of Shub soap with me. Next time I'll have to make one for my travel bag.

    Strangler Fig

in the imp: fig, garden, dirt. on me: smells like green leaves, specifically the ones from the lilac bush when I was a little kid, when the sun hit them. later: smells like fig-scented Jergen's baby lotion on me now. Yikes! This is not good, O skin chemistry mine. Stop that silliness. It's making my head hurt. Alas, this is not for me. Oh, well. Interesting though.
