  1. Well, I pushed it to the limit of the 10 days in hopes that I could repack things better.  Box went out yesterday (should arrive Saturday), but it's not much better than it was fullness wise.  Hopefully everything gets there mostly safe and sound (some of the bracelets have not been handling the overpackedness well, so be careful opening that bag).

Someone needs to take the owl necklace because it's amazing and I spent every day dithering on whether to take it even though it doesn't match any of my wardrobe.

Oh definitely, I didn't mean to imply the check ins were mandatory, just if people felt like it.

Didn't think you were :)  Just thinking about the social un-distancing swap during early covid, where check ins were the point.  It was lovely!  Also a big undertaking to keep up with, though.

YES   1 million percent.  I am a chronic pain sufferer too and I can use suggestions.  I sometimes run out of ideas on making things easier for myself.  I would also love to share the things I have discovered that work.  It would be lovely to have the support of others that are in the same club.  Maybe we could keep checking in on each other  as well.

I think checking in could be sweet, but  I also don't want to make it burdensome on folks with limited capacity.  I'll will think on this and try to pull something together in September.

  4. (first - twilighteyes, your mailing list is the greatest! and yay Switch Witch!)

Would anyone be interested in something like a Comfort Care Package swap later this fall (I'm thinking late september so it's pre-holiday stress season)?

I feel like there are a lot of us with health issues or chronic pain around.  I personally am really frigging sick of shopping for my own issues (if I see another wrist brace, I will scream).  I would have way more fun shopping to make a care package for someone else.  I'm leaning towards something like 2-4 "comfort objects" (think fancy ice packs, pretty K Tape, pain relieving lotions, compression gloves, etc) plus 1 or 2 items just to brighten your person's day (pretty stationary, an easy care plant, good chocolate, etc).  Packages on the small side because 1. health/pain stuff is stupidly expensive and 2. fewer choices = lower effort, which would theoretically make it easier for people who aren't doing well to participate.

I tried one a few years ago but then the pandemic hit. I tried restarting it once since but didn't get many sign ups. The box is still sitting in my basement so if enough people are interested I can definitely give it another go.

that would be lovely, hopefully others are interested!

Would love to see Spring Cleaning swap.  I have sooooo much stuff.  I'd be willing to co lead if someone wants.  I would also love to see SW again but I think that needs very experienced ringleaders so I won't put my hat in for that one.  I'd participate though.

If you're up for it, I'm happy to co-host Spring Cleaning.  I can't hack it solo this year, but it's my favorite, so I'm always willing to help keep it going.  If someone else wants to co-host though, I'm happy to step aside.

I FEEL THIS. We just bought our first house and 99% moved in last weekend (the apartment still has some of my non-essential odds and ends). Good luck to you and may you find a house you love and win it!

Late March/Early April sounds good, still spring😁😁

Congratulations!  I hope the last 1% is going well

I want to wish all of you moving the best of luck.

    Thank you :)

@Greenwoodtree - I hope your move goes smoothly.

  8. @aphrodisms and I chatted a bit, and we're planning to run Spring Cleaning this year (if anyone else wants to help, let us know!).  But, y'all, I'm afraid it's the year for patience - I'm trying to buy a house for the first time (frigging terrifying), so we're not planning to post until late March/early April and will likely have some pretty long sign up and ship windows to make sure we don't leave anyone hanging while I try to move (ack!).

  9. Sounds like there's quite a bit of interest in Spring Cleaning.  I've co-run it a few times and would be happy to do so again.  Anyone else interested in helping run it?  Or running it yourself - I'm not especially fixed on helping run it, just want to make sure it happens.

Any interest for a Wolfenoot swap next year?  (if you know about Wolfenoot, you know it will be dog related but you don't have to have a dog - just be kind to dogs.)  I just wish it weren't so close to Thanksgiving (11/23) but those wacky Kiwis don't have that.

    A million times yes!

(I've also been thinking about this. I'm not ready to commit to organizing another swap while I have one still open, but I like the card swap idea. So I'm thinking.)

Another option, for simplicity, might be to require people to send a reasonable minimum (suggesting 5 as a number right now, just for illustrative purposes). When they get their recipients, they get it divided up like, "Here are your assigned 5, but here also are everyone else's addresses in case you want to send more." And then participants are guaranteed to receive those 5 (or whatever number is chosen) but might receive more.

I think, as long as the expectations for sending and receiving are clearly laid out prior to sign-ups, then people who do sign up will be happy with how the swap runs.

I think this is probably the easiest way to do it, but I'm inclined to believe that CluckingBell has the right idea if you prefer to keep it open to variable numbers.  I suspect that it probably works itself out in fairly natural groupings and that the organizers were filling the gaps if there were any (i.e. writing extra cards to heavy senders).

@skyelyric @Dark Alice Do you have the bandwidth to run the Tacky Ornament swap this year?  If not, I can take it over but I don't want to step on anyone's feet.

So, I've looked in the Swap Cemetery for card swaps.  It looks like the last one was run in 2012!  Does anyone know who @CardSwap Faery was?  I would be happy to run this one except for one thing.  The instructions are everyone signs up to send either 2, 5 or 10 cards.  Presumably if you send 2, you receive 2, and so on.  That seems mathematically beyond me.  Is there a computer whiz who could help me with the matching?  Or an easy algorithm someone can point me to?

I am not up for participating in swaps right now, but I'm happy to help with matching for this or anything else.  I've never done one with that many combos, but I'm happy to beat my head against it until it works.

I'd certainly be up for another Book/Sock/Soap or Book/Sock/Soap/Snack swap or similar sometime soon (ah, alliteration!), but alas, a swap organizer I am not!

If anyone wants to host this one, I'm happy to co-host/help with matches and tracking.  Seems like a nice cozy one to do at this particular moment in time.

  14. If you, like me, amp sandalwood, you should skip this one.  I took the risk on an imp because hay is one of my all time favorite notes and sandalwood was listed last, but the hay is completely absent for me. No hay, no almond, no bourbon cream.  Just sandalwood for days and not in a good way.  In an "oh god, who is wearing such strong perfume?" way.
