    The Wheel of Fortune

This smells exactly like every dentist's office I've ever walked into.

    Haunted

I don't know why, I don't know how, but this smells like Coca-Cola on my skin. The extra-sweet variety made with sugar instead of corn syrup for Passover, even. Argh.
  3. Ice Queen and Lady of Shalott smell very similar on me.

    Sugar Skull

I bought this off a generous forumite, but to my surprise, my skin sucks it up so fast I could barely smell it on me it all. No one else seems to have had this problem! Damnit. At first it was mostly cinnamon with a touch of maple syrup, and then a very light maple/brown sugar scent. It was gorgeous, but I really couldn't smell it at all unless my nose was shoved up against my wrist. Off it goes, hopefully to be bought by someone with more normal skin chemistry.
  5. I was working on a paper a few weeks ago and wearing Perversion really helped. It's still chilly out and I was stressing, but Perversion is such a warm, comforting scent on me that it felt like wrapping myself in furs against the cold so that I could really focus on my work.

    Oisin

I'm very torn on this one. It really does smell like clean boy on me, too. Musky, herbal, very white, and not sweet. It's gorgeous, but I'm not sure I can wear it, as it feels boyish and not very me. On the other hand, I keep sniffing my wrist and sighing happily. Oisin strikes me as such a calmly male genderfuck scent. I want to wear Oisin when on a date with another girl.

    Rose Red

This is, simply put, the only rose oil I have ever liked. Ever. In all my life.

    March Hare

I loved this at first. In the bottle and wet on my skin it was luscious apricot with just the slightest touch of clove. As it dried down, the clove started coming out more, which was still wonderful. But now, an hour after first application, it's turned waxy and I smell like a candle. Sigh. I'll probably use up the imp as a room scent, but oh, I wish I could really wear it.

    The Lady of Shalott

I'm having a great deal of trouble picking out the individual notes here. That said, this blend is a surprise love for me. More than anything, this perfume smells like tears. A light, lovely, salty aquatic. With just barely a touch of sweetness and a sharpness to it that make the tears wistful instead of sobbing. This is seriously affecting my mood, and evoking memories I haven't thought of in years, melancholy and bittersweet. I appreciate the reminder of them. I am in [courtly, tragic] love with this scent.

    Dragon's Heart

Dragon's blood really agrees with me. My skin turns it into a spicy sweet scent, not floral at all, and not so sweet as to be cloying. Very yummy. Most of the dragon's blood scents I've tried here have been wonderful on me, and Dragon's Heart is no exception. I can't actually make out any of the individual notes in this besides the dragon's blood, but I can definitely tell that they're doing wonderful things together. If anything, they're making the spiciness richer than dragon's blood usually is on me and making the scent sink in closer to my skin, leaving me with a subtle, rich spiciness as a second skin scent. I already have Blood Amber and Dragon's Milk on order... I think I'm starting to sense a pattern in my tastes.

    Baobhan Sith

I love grapefruit. Every other citrus scent I've tried here has been lime or lemon or orange, which seriously don't do it for me, but Baobhan Sith is strong delicious grapefruit pith right away. As it dries down, the grapefruit fades and the white tea and apple blossoms start to lift out of my skin at last. I'm not really familiar with apple blossoms, but they're sort of reminding me of the way the air smells at the sakura matsuri (cherry blossom festival) at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in the spring. It's evoking some really lovely memories for me. For the rest of the day, it remains a blend of white tea and apple blossoms, very light and clean, with the grapefruit become more subtle but still sharpening it all wonderfully. I never got any ginger at all, in the bottle or on my skin. This is not the sort of scent I usually go for (I abhor most citrus and floral scents), but to my surprise, I find that I'm really liking it quite a lot. I'll have to see how often I reach for this imp before I decide whether to go for a bottle, but especially as summer approaches and I need crisper scents, I think I probably will. Edit: Near the end of the day, the grapefruit faded completely and I actually did end up catching a whiff of a soft ginger holding up the white tea and apple blossoms in its stead. This was such an interesting scent as it evolved over the day.

    'Second Skin' Scents

Blood Amber is an incredible second skin scent for me. It stays around for a long while without fading, and it just gorgeous. It's funny to hear that reminded people of Freya, because that's a goddess I've often been told reminds people of me. No wonder I love Blood Amber so much, then.

La Bella Donna Della Mia Mente

The lab threw this in as a freebie with my last order. Along with a lot of other florals. How I dislike most florals. Still, I am dedicated and adventurous, so I gave it a fair try. And I appreciate the generosity of the lab! I know this is a floral, but at first wet on my skin I was mostly getting peach, which was lovely, and then the rose started to join in, lightly and inoffensively. It was wet and juicy and more peach than anything with some very light florals, and I was starting to like it, when after an hour - bam! - sweet baby powder. Off to the swap pile it goes. Now I'm really hankering after a scent that stays light damp aquatic peach even after it dries down. Have to find something like that.

    De Sade

This is amazing. It really does smell like pure leather - corset leather, jacket dripping with zippers leather, long gloves leather. I can definitely think of events I'll be wearing this for. And I can't wait to try layering with it - that'll be amazing! De Sade + Port-Au-Prince would be leather 'n cloves, De Sade + Blood Amber would be a dominatrix walking through an autumn forest with red-gold leaves falling all around her, settling on her bare shoulders and in her cleavage between her skin and her leather corset - my, yes, this is something to look forward to.

    Kurukulla

I generally dislike florals, but the lab threw this in as an extra with my last order (and the generosity is greatly appreciated!). Like I said, I dislike florals, but I dutifully tried them all anyway. Wet on my skin, it had a lot of throw and was sweetsweetsweet. As it dries, the throw is relaxing somewhat, but it's still an pretty sweet scent on me. It's almost getting a bit incensy along with the sweet florals as it continues to try, but I'm tempted to blame that on all the incensy oils I've tried in the past week or so. It's very wet-smelling, liquidy, too - not a light scent, but like petals suspended in cool water flowing over your skin. I'll admit that Beth's florals don't bother me the way just about every other floral perfume I've gone near has - her florals really do smell like the flowers themselves, and are lovely. But it's just that I don't really want to smell like flowers. This'll be gorgeous for someone who does.

    Queen of Sheba

This is mostly pink peppercorns and dark almonds on me. I caught a whiff of honey early on, but then it faded. Very dry, and I rather prefer the buttery creaminess of Old Morocco. But still, it's growing on me... I'll have to give it another try before deciding whether to keep it or not.

    Yggdrasil

This is unique among the woodsy scents I've tried because instead of smelling like woods, it smells like the fresh air moving through the woods. Wow.

    Scarecrow

Wet: Dry and bitter and actually started to give me a headache. On me: It got sweeter as it dried, but never too sweet, and the headache went away, and suddenly I realized what it reminded me of - going apple-picking in the early fall. Green apples, definitely. This is lovely.

    Thanatopsis

I just got this as a freebie with my order - thanks, o generous lab! At first sniff, it was strong pine. Not as bad as Skadi (which was so piney that I couldn't handle it), but still, way too much for me. I tried it anyway. Dry, it's much nicer on me. It became very dusty and woody, in a soft comfy sort of way. It sort of reminded me of how I used to wear my Dad's flannel shirts for warmth while I went on treasure hunts in the attack through his old books and comics and Mom's old art supplies, and at the same time I think that the person above who compared it to a glade covered in fallen needles was absolutely right. This is actually really nice. I don't think I'll end up with a bottle, but I'll probably keep and use up the imp.

    Blood

This smelled very strongly of cherry to me in the bottle, but it became dragon's blood and myrrh on my skin. I wish I could smell the clove, though... maybe I should try layering this with Port-Au-Prince, which turns to almost pure clove on me. Blood is wonderful, but a bit too sweet for me, unlayered.

    Hecate

This went through a lot of very fast changes for me. In the bottle, it was dark smoky almonds, which I really enjoyed. As soon as it hit my skin, the smoke became so sharp that it overpowered the almonds completely and my nose actually burned when I leaned into my arm to take a sniff. Then it briefly faded into the sweet almond/cherry that Hearth is for me, and I was disappointed. And finally, finally, the smokiness started to come back, with still a bit too much sickly sweetness under it. I don't think I really like the way this smells on me, but I'll probably keep the imp as a room scent, at least. And give it another try on me in a few days, just in case.

    Dragon's Bone

This actually goes far too floral for me. At first I got that dusty, rich melding of sandalwood and dragon's blood, but then this floral (orris root, maybe?) took over completely. I dislike florals, with very few exceptions. This one goes to the swap pile for me.

    Port-Au-Prince

In the bottle, I smelled pure almonds. Liquid marzipan! As soon as it touched my skin, the almond faded and the rum and spices started to come out. I think I smelled the bay at first, but it may have been my imagination, since it was gone so fast. On me, it ended up very heavy on the clove, with the rum and sassafras just barely noticeable, supporting the clove and making it warmer and richer. (I don't smell the cinnamon everyone else is mentioning. Clove and cinnamon smell rather similar, though, and perhaps some of us are mixing them up? Could be the other reviewers, could be me. I don't know.) This is a gorgeous scent, absolutely sumptuous. I need to end up with a bottle of this.

    Kweku Anansi

I'm with all the others who found this to be a dark, woodsy, earthy scent. It smells like pepper to me more than anything. I don't smell any citrus at all, though... no clue why other people are getting that. As it dries, the pepper remains dominant while becoming less sharp. It evokes the sense of the strong wildness sinking into the skin rather than cutting through it. It is a very masculine scent, but I love masculine scents on myself. I'm in love, and can't wait for it to be released so I can buy a bottle! This imp is definitely not enough for me.
