    Monna Vanna

Monna Vanna, Dante Gabriel Rossetti.Russian rose, mimosa, gardenia, bois du rose, parma violet, calla lily, red currant, ambergris, and bourbon vanilla. in the bottle, mostly rose and violet. wet:lily and violet w/ a splash of rose. i amp up rose, lily and violet and really that is drowning out all the other notes.

    Kiyohime Changes From a Serpent

Kiyohime Changes From a Serpent, Yoshitoshi.Salty ocean spray, red kelp, black plum, lychee, sea moss, green musk, hachiya, plum blossom, and matcha. in the bottle: very light ocean spray, slightly fruity. wet: more aquatic, then in the bottle, but not a over bearing aquatic. i am not an aquatic lover but this is nice. still a hint of fruitiness, but it is very subtle behind the ocean smell. there is something faintly floral, but i can not decern which ote it is exactly. this dries in to a soft ocean scent w/ a background of plum blossom
  3. CHAOS THEORY III: STRANGE ATTRACTORS Each bottle of Chaos Theory is truly unique, a fragrant fractal, and exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty! Each is a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim, mood and gut instinct. I got 2 bottles of strange attractors. CXCII: in the bottle: almondy, possibly hazelnut too. wet: cherry/almondy scent...more almond but i know some peopel associate the two. as it dries it mellows a bit, becomes a bit more resinous, hazelnut, dusty. the almond burns off quite a bit, and leaves a much mellower scent then when it was wet. CXCI: in the bottle: light, fresh, spring flower scent. wet: very fresh, slightly soap like edge, yet not soapy like coast. this is very floral. possibly lily, and i am thinking maybe hyacinth or wysteria. something along that spring flower like line. remains pretty much the same, a very feminine, spring, sunny scent.

    His Station and Four Aces

His Station and Four Aces, C.M. Coolidge.Lilac fougere, white musk, and leather accord. in the bottle: leather and cleanliness. wet: whoa white musk. which always has a clean almost fresh scent to my nose, w/ a backdrop of leather. this is a very true to the bottle scent for me, i get all white musk and leather, not really any lilac. it is masculine. much like a freshly showered man, in a deep leather seat.

    Sunrise With Sea-Monsters

Sunrise With Sea-Monsters, Joseph Mallord William Turner.Ocean mist, kelp, ambergris, amber, white pear, osmanthus, freesia, and seafoam accord. in the bottle: seafoam is right, and a hint of springy florals w/ a pear thrown in for good measure. this also has a green note almost reminding me of bamboo, although i don't see that listed. wet: pear and seafoam. fresh almost as if i were on the front of a ship w/ the ocean breezes blowing in my face. as it dries the florals come out a bit more, although the seafoam is still the most noticible note, it is a good balance of freesia and seafoam i think. i also occassionally get the barest whiff of ambergris but it runs almost as soon as i detect it.

    Carceri d'Invenzione

Carceri d'Invenzione, Giovanni Battista Piranesi.Redwood, red sandalwood, black pepper, blonde tobacco and frankincense. in the bottle:sweet, almost juicy scent looking at the notes i wonder what exactly is giving me the juicy impression it reminds me a bit of a sweet musk. wet:exact same, i see this as a deep juicy red scent i detect the tobbacco, and red sandalwood the greatest. liking this scent alot. as it dries it is still a sweet scent but not in the foody sweet way. it is just a nice round "reddish" type scent, but not a cinnamon type red. the frankencense is there but more as a grounding note holding it all together, rather then being up front getting all the attention. the red sandalwood is the most obvious w/ my chemistryand the tobbacco mingles beautifully w/ it. all in all this is a wonderful, sophisticated, scent. i am definitely going to be getting more!

    Dead Man's Hand

To celebrate the opening of the Black Phoenix Trading Post, we are offering this rugged, visceral dark cowboy scent. Now widely considered a portent of doom, the Dead Man's Hand is a term used in five-card poker when you have “aces over eights” or “aces backed with eights” -- the hand allegedly held by Wild Bill Hickock when he was gunned down from behind by Jack McCall in Saloon No. 10, Deadwood. According to the saloon's proprietor, Hickock was holding all black cards, aces and eights, and it is believed that he was about to draw at the time of his murder. Our Dead Man's Hand is the quintessential western scent: dusty rawhide and oiled leather. this one stayed true from the vial, wet, and dry. it is indeed leather, pure leather on me it smelled just like a wilson's leather store.

    Power

Aids in the cultivation and development of personal power in all aspects of your life. Can be used in conjunction with any magick to add additional strength to the work. gah this is intimidating. being the first to review a mysterious tal blend.... in the vial resinous, and a very familiar scent of tal blends. sharp, and well powerful wet: hmm cedar i believe it is cedary, there is something spicy there too possibly tonka? (ppsssttt did i say this is intimidating?) as it dries it is mostly resinous but occassionally i get a whiff of smething spicey. it is a powerful scent, i wish i could do it justice but alas i fear i am not. the longer it is on the less "resinous" it is and it becomes somewhat floral i believe gardenia, heady and strong and the hint of light clean soap (in a good way not in a coast way) my skin really soaked this one up, like a sponge eta recieved a decanted imp in a swap Added Lab description --Shollin

    Philosopher in Meditation

Philosopher in Meditation, Rembrandt van Rijn.Smoldering woodfire embers, Galen's Kyphi, and Abramelin incense. in the bottle:juicy wine? grapes? uhhhh whuuu? on:ahh more like it where did that sweet scent go? now it is definitely wood fires, ambers personified. yes i get incense also. and something almost grain like. there is still something almost sweet about this scent but not the grape like scent in the bottle. this is a resinous, incensy, sex in a bottle blend, i am gonna need more. eta this reminds me slightly of the lion. but the lion in an incense chamber

    Mad Meg

Mad Meg, Pieter Bruegel the Elder.Fire-scorched earth, black mandarin, cinnamon bark, bitter almond, sage, vetiver, and balsam of peru. in the bottle, dark , smokey. vetiver is obvious wet: earth and vetiver this is earthy, very earthy, lots of vetiver w/ the slightest breath of cinnamon.

    Madonna

Madonna, Edvard Munch.Hyssop, pomegranate, Angel's Trumpet, Indonesian patchouli, iris, white orchid, and frankincense. in the bottle: pomegranate, hyssop, and floral wet hint of orchid, hyssop seems to be the most pronounce note besides orchid as it dries this scent is a nice orchid (similar to black orchid) w/ a hint of green in the background.

    Lord of the Forest

A men's virility and sexual domination blend. hmmm, i do not know why but my nose keeps detecting civet in voodoo blends, maybe it isn't civet but some note that is having a civet like reaction w/ my chemistry but to me it smells civet like, deep down, below the smell i am associating w/ civet it s deep resinous smell, possibly oak or rosewood, it is so hard to get past the sharp smell, that i am unsure, there is also something sharply green possibly some kind of evergreen or pine which would make sense w/ the name of the scent.

    New Year's Eve in Dogville

New Year's Eve in Dogville, C.M. Coolidge.Flirty perfume, dapper cologne, and effervescent champagne. in the bottle: light, cologney, slightly airy note. wet: there is something very...dewey about this. i definitely get a champagne note, and a light breezy perfume type scent. this one is one of those that smell differently up close then it does as you move around. i get hints of a masculine cologne scent as i move, but up close i smell a soft feminine, dewey scent, this smells light and bubbly up close, and it is quite nice.

    Ho Ho Ho

in the bottle, sweet, spicey, definitely a holiday scent. i like this better then eggnog latte wet, cinnamon, spice, and i am getting something incensy. as it dries this becomes lighter but still very spice heavy though a certain smokey quality keeps it from going foody. gorgeous.

    Eggnog Latte

in the bottle this si spot on egg nog latte, sweet eggy vanilla, and a shot of coffee. wet remains very similar to in the bottle as it dries the coffee is less prominent and it is a sifter spicier, scent, very christmassy, very "foody" i am not so much a foody girl as a heavy incensy musk girl, but foodies will surely love this beautiful scent

    The Illustrated Woman

i realized i have let my reviews slip lately. and what better scent to form my comeback then *my* scent. when beth first asked if she could do me, i was stunned, crazily fangirl flattered, and uber excited, athough a bit nervous to have anything threaten my love for snake oil. the description and artwork brought tears to my eyes, it is soooo me. so the prototype arrived for ECWC and i had to try it first, i mean come on it is meeeeee. and i opened the bottle, i love beth's pine notes, i have made no secret of that, but man wow smack in the face pine. wow did i say pine?? this is one of those times i trust in beth, i know what she can do, i have read the notes, i know there are other facets to this scent. wet: still heavy on the pine, but i can detect patchouli, smokiness, and a hint of musk. then it dries. O.M. GAHHHH gorgeousness. this is a skin hugging vanilla, honey, smokiness, the pine fades back to barely waft by occasionally and say hi. the tobacco, honey, and musk frame the patchouli and make this just stunning, it is definitely a "me" scent and definitely tends to give snake oil some competition. although snake oil will always be my signature scent, illustrated woman is my comforting hell yeah scent. beth continually amazes me, and it is such an honor to have such an amazing scent w/ my pic on it.

    Marshmallow Poof

in the bottle:swweeeet, creamy, hint of something almost cherry wet: very strong almost powdered sugar slightly powdery, slightly floral, no cherries as it dries it is a soft sweet cloud of yumminess, vanilla, sugar, sticky yet strong. maybe the stay puff marshmallow man in ghostbusters is a good comparison. big, white, poof of stickiness.

    All Souls

07 all souls. in the bottle sweet, incensy, hint of fruit. wearing this is like being in a hippies kitchen. the hippie is baking a delicious white cake, placing a touch of currant preserves in between layers and the whole time the kitchen is permeated w/ soft, wafts of incense. it stays close to my skin but wisps around me intriguing me when i catch it. i keep thinking if cheech and chong were married, this would be what their wives kitchens would smell like when they came home after getting the munchies love this one for sure

Sugar Skull Soap (by Silk Road Trading Company)

another lovely bptp soap. it is very lightly fragranced sugar skull, true to the scent of the same name, it doesn't over power the shower, but makes it's gentle self known, i again use a poof due to the scrubby texture, but i have uber sensitive skin, so some may not need that step. there is just something so decadent about lathering this lovely scent on my body. i am truly spoiled.

whoot got this from the sweetest swapper ever (ivyand peony) altho i wold like to know it's ritual use i will review it as a scent this is resinous, there is an evergreen in here for sure, i was thinking cedar but it may be a pine, and i believe there is sandalwood, as it dries i mellows and gets a slight touch of a spice possibly cloves, it is faintly resemblant of my clove cigarettes i actually like it as a scent i am a resin lover....nw to find out the use of it so i can see if it "works"

    Crypt Queen

As sweet as death, as deep as the grave: pomegranate, raspberry, gardenia, plum, and rose with patchouli, black pepper, rose musk, and a hint of blood accord. What I see in the distance is a moss covered ancient mausoleum. Being the daring soul I am, I silently creep, on careful footsteps to the door. It makes en eerie creak, almost a slow moan as I ease the door open. Standing alone, in the center of the interior is a coffin that looks almost as aged as the building itself. Somewhere deep in the recess of my mind I realize this could be dangerous. I have heard rumors the ever dangerous inhabitant who wants to own her victims abides in these hallowed halls. I get closer to the coffin, commited to my destiny, I slowly open the lid by sliding it a crack, the smell of dry almost crackling moss. I can tell the inhabitant once had life a hint of almost animated musk. I also can detect funeral flowers, particularly rose, and something barely fruity and sweet. As I get to know the Queen better I can almost feel her breath and eyes on me, deep, dark, dusty. She still has the barest hint of sweetness, and that musk, I want her to love me, I want her to always be with me, captivate me w/ the life she once led, holding court and having people fall at her feet, worshiping. I feel I could stay here all day, and a drowsiness starts to fall across me, hypnotic. I desire to curl up, rest, deep, undisturbed slumber. It feels like hours have passed, I realize they have, I had fallen asleep. I awake feeling almost as if someone was there with me, then recall I had been invisioning *her* and her scent still lingers, enfolding me in a cloud of the softest skin musk, no bitterness, no anciant mosses, just a soft sweet breath, a hint of her previous beauty lingering, bekoning me to become hers fully. I realize suddenly I want to. I want to be hers, stay with her forever.....
