    The Black Tower

A sepulchral, desolate scent. Long-dead soldiers, oath-bound; the perfume of their armor, the chill wind that surges through their tower, white bone and blackened steel: white sandalwood, ambergris, wet ozone, galbanum and leather with ebony, teak, burnt grasses, English ivy and a hint of red wine. As usual, wine turns sour on me. I want to like this one, but it has one note, the wine, maybe, that just doesn't jive with my skin chemistry. But ozone usually doesn't work on me, either. This one just had too much going on, I fear.

    Plunder

This is nothing but cinnamon on me, just too much cinnamon. Turns me red and I just dont get the delcious chai scents that others do. It smells more like cinnamon than Bengal. I wish I smelled the tobacco and sandalwood, but I will try it once more before I send it off to swap.

    Bliss

Cocoa, dry dutch cocoa in the imp. On it is brownie batter, no doubt. Throw is light, but wear is long. This will be nice for layering (over Snake Oil, anyone?), but I don't think I will have any occasion to wear it alone.

    Séance

This one does not work on me, and actually, the initial sniff test was one of the least positive I've ever had. I haad to go wash it off and cover the area with Rapture. Wet it smells to me like dry dusty wood, possibly the hazel, but it slowly acquires a burning sort of smell that I just didn't like. (Oddly enough, the smell I get from Aziraphale is more like what I supposed Seance would smell like.) I smell no rose.

    Scherezade

This is one scent that is so-so on me, but WOW on my DH (and in the oil burner) Sultry Middle Eastern Spices without any floral, I smell earthy incensy spice as well as that clearer "yellow' scent which I assume to be saffron, and a deeper muskier scent. I agree it does have great throw and lasts and lasts on my DH. It goes a little too sweet on me, bordering on baby powder.

    Tristran

This one is pure heaven on my Tristran! (and in my oil burner) On me it turns to a sickeningly sweet sandalwood and piney scented doom! But amazing what a difference of body chemistry can do. DH needs a truckload of the stuff, meeeowww! Tristran smells so well blended on him, but I can pick out the initial smell of sandalwood and tonka, soft and sweet, tempered by a drier rosewood and slightly bitter woody patchouli. It does smell very woody to me, which I suppose is the redwood. The lemon peel, coriander and mint aren't really notes I can pick out, but the blend does have an herby sort of feel to it. Very nice man's scent, especially if he doesn't like traditional cologne scents.

    Yvaine

This one is definitely in my top 10. First, let me say that I love magnolia and I find this note in Yvaine to be very true and comforting. It smells like June. The lavender is not too sharp for me, and it fades fairly quickly from prominence, but not altogether. In the imp I smell very strong lavender, but on the skin, that lavender warms up, fades and sweetens. Then the magnolia comes through and both meld into one beautiful scent. I love this one right before bed, since the lavender is so comforting and relaxing to me. I really love lavender, but it has been a while since I smelled a lavender smell that I like that isn't a LUSH Cosmetics scent or that generic lavender bath salt smell. This scent is so unique and melds with my body chemistry perfectly. It is a floral, but an herbal floral. I will probably go through an enitre bottle next spring alone!

    Lady Una

Another Gaiman scent that I'm crazy about, go figure. I smell honey tea/ Dorian from Lady Una when wet, with a sharp ammoniac blackberry note that soon fades. The drydown is much nicer than the vanilla musk Dorian leaves me with. It is more of a fruity honey spice, but oddly not foody on me. Very nice in my hair to lengthen the wear and passed the husband test; he sniffed it off of the back of my neck in the morning and loved it. It has a wild yet refined scent, not unlike the character for which it was named. I see a bottle in my future.

    Aziraphale

I never do this, but at soon as I had sniffed Aziraphale I slathered it on without even testing on the back of my hand as usual. I will be needing BOTTLES of this one. The musk reminds me of the body musk scent that I adore in Grandmother of Ghosts, but where GoG adds intensity with the mandarin and pepper, Aziraphale is subtle and sophisticated, smelling of academia instead of ritual. I smell sandalwood and cedar and old paper. The "masculine musk" blends like this and Crowley go sweet on me, and usually with pleasant results. I only wish the throw was stronger, but I'll have to try it in my hair and scent locket as well. This will make my top ten. Almost a year later, and aging has really made this scent stronger, more potent. It still has that paper, musk, wood smell, but now it is smooth, burnished wood, shiny and dusty at once. It's hard to describe how I feel wearing this one; safe, content, and a little naughty in a bad librarian sort of way, lol. Between my bottle of this and Crowley, Aziraphale gets the most love.

    All Souls

No one else gets an evil vetiver dry-down from this? It starts out okay, sweet with a hint of incense, but all too quickly a vetiver smell comes out and pushes all the other smells into the background. (almost exactly the thing that makes me hate MB Biggercritter and Midnight on the Midway. Bye-bye cake and incense. Oh, well, that's one more LE I don't need to get.

    Seasonal Affective Disorder

Shattered is the one I reach for when I need a little sunshine.

    Marquise de Merteuil

Plastic peaches. *sigh* But at least the amber stayed nice, not urinal cake, while it lasted.

    Tisiphone

    Patchouli soap.

Walk into a florist's shop, inhale deeply...

I have heard that Peacock Queen smells just like a florist's cooler, but having never tried it, I can't confirm. But today I'm wearing Phantom Queen, which smells just like clover and a bit like the grenery in the florist's, not the flowers so much. It is very GREEN. I highly recommend it.
  15. I had a good experience with Has No Hanna. Firstly, I like the scent, but second of all, whenever I wear it I *feel* lucky. One day when I wore it, it was like the perfect day. Lights changed for me, people at work were civil and didn't NEED things from me, and the day passed by so quickly, I could barely believe it. And I had frimps in the mailbox when I got home, and discovered my love for Morgause!! All in all, a pretty good day. My luck most days is so bad, just having a day on an even keel feels lucky to me!

    Dorian

Very bright and sweet in the imp, but on my skin, the sweet lemonade/creme brulee scent fades within the hour to a vanilla/vetiver/musk that I'm not really that fond of. Lives up to it's name in that regard. It smells great in my hair still, and I love it on DH. Definitely scent locket worthy. A beautiful scent.

    CCNow Questions & Problems

I am the same way, and of course, the same thing happened to me. I know better now, but perhaps if the notice were more blatant? Of course, now that I'm looking at the page again, it pops right out at me, like a scarlet letter of shame. But the front page can be a bit overwhelming to new users.
  19. TereFaerie

    CCNow or PayPal

Just to reassure you all, I did the same thing, too, on 10/1. There are lots of us, I gather, from reading this thread, who have made the same mistake. It was my first lab order, and I guess the front page with the Paypal notice was a bit overwhelming for me and I didn't notice it. I hate to think that I am hurting the lab with fees. And to top things off, one of the imp scents I ordered was unimpable, so that may be holding it up, as well. I certainly know better now, and will paste my order from CCNow into Paypal. Still waiting patiently on my CnS.

    Discussion of all things Amber

I'm currently loving Tamora, it is just ambery enough to be sexy, with a touch of sandalwood. It is supposed to have a hint of peach, but I don't smell it.
  21. TereFaerie

    Tamora

It DID smell like peach gummies in the imp and when I first put it on, but that didn't last. It is a sweet amber with a hint of sandalwood. Smells great on my skin so far, I just hope the vanilla won't go all plasticky on me. The amber and the heliotrope, perhaps, are giving it a beautiful body, but the sweetness of the vanilla makes it a bit more feminine and less sultry. I'm hoping the sandalwood will come out more in the dry-down. I will update my review after a full day's wear.

    Jack

I like this one because it smells edible. I don't get pumpkin or peach, just a spicy (clove, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice), buttery smell like making a graham cracker crust for a cheescake. It is very nice, but very foody. I want to bathe in it. This is the foodiest blend I've tried yet and I'm inspired to try some more. I may have to get a bottle for fall if I don't like the Samhain I have coming.

    Monster Bait: biggerCritters

In the imp this is definitely cake and grapefruit. On the skin, the citrus fades within a few minutes and I'm left with a plasticky vanilla and a powdery floral vying for attention. The jasmine is a bit sharp and the final scent is vetiver, not my favorite. This is a nice scent, don't get me wrong, just not what I was hoping for. I'll update after a full day's use.
  24. TereFaerie

    Has No Hanna

In the imp Has No Hanna is a gloriously astringent floral. Once on my skin it softens into a jasmine/rose/violet less assertive floral. It starts to go a little powdery on me, but I do like it. It still isn't the perfect jasmine I've been searching for. Sigh. Maybe I just have to face facts, I thought my perfect bpal would have jasmine in it, but maybe not. I'll update my review after an all day wear.

Nag Champa scent in a BPAL blend?

Urd, on my DH anyway, not on me, has a spot on head-shop scent, nag champa with patchouli, and a bit of grape that sort of reminds me of the other incense in a headshop all mixed together, that "headshop" air. On me, the grape goes car air freshener, though. Yuk.
