Jarek Report post Posted November 30, 2024 (edited) A master storyteller who possessed unfailing courage and compassion, a sharp, quick wit, and a true understanding of human nature. Saffron and Middle Eastern spices swirled through sensual red musk. I received a frimp of this two years ago in 2022 with an order I made. At first I wasn't as into it. I'm still not very sure if spices are my thing. But I love saffron, and it does take on a bit of an incense quality, and having tried Snake Oil I can definitely smell the similarity in spices there as well. The musky smell is also nice. This scent has really grown on me. It makes me think I should give my Snake Oil imp another chance or few too, as that one might grow on me more. In the imp and wet the spices seem more forward to me, once dry I get more of the musk coming through. It smells noticeably like musk but a different variation than I've smelled musk in before, which has mostly been white or black musk, or just 'musk', all from BPAL. I haven't worn this one for long yet today but as I recall both the spices and the musk scents linger, but more of the musk continues to come through. I think I can pick out saffron but it's blended really well. I think I will add this to the list of bottles to get one day. :3 Edited November 30, 2024 by Jarek
SmellsPrettyGood2Me Report post Posted March 8, 2025 A very restrained red musk with a slightly floral undertone, even though florals are not explicitly mentioned in the description. It's cold here this time of year and I think that's impeding the scent from fully blooming. Looking forward to retrying it in warmer weather!
carrioncupid Report post Posted January 15 ? snake oil is that you??? it smells exactly like my imp of snake oil in the vial. ok. well, the snake oil does dissipate on skin. the spices basically ditched me the moment it touched my skin. it's a little soapy... a little woody, i hate saying it reminds me of carved wooden bridal shop again but it does. woody, and slightly rosy for some reason. not my favorite, i would pick morocco or snake oil over scherezade any day. y'know what, lemme test my imp of morocco side by side. morocco is warmer, and spicier-- and more incensey. more sensual. scherezade is a little too-- perfumey? it really demands attention, unlike morocco which is more lax. divadienst Report post Posted yesterday at 10:32 AM cross-posting from fb, as someone over there was asking about 'the perfect 90's hippy store incense', and then i realised that even though scherezade has been one of my big favourites so far, i've never written about it here! i answered: one of my favourite bpal scents and is very incense-y to me, even though it doesn't explicitly list the specific notes others have suggested [that comprise this incense/hippy store smell]. when i first opened the bottle it reminded me straight away a lot of my very free-range childhood - children's yoga workshops, going on holiday to festivals and to communes i didn't realise were communes, shops with organic chocolate before this was a big thing etc. i wasn't sure if this was something i wanted to smell like, as i remember all those hippy shops smelling quite heady and overwhelming!!, and i don't really think that's who i am as an adult, but on the skin it dries off and becomes truly gorgeous and, rather than just being a nostalgic flashback, i find it very womanly and sophisticated. the spices are very very soft on me, not at all 'sharp' as i can sometimes find them. scherezade came to me as a frimp in my very first order back in january, and i was really impressed by how well the lab had chosen my frimps to match with the notes in the things i'd ordered myself (spellbound, othello, and the rose also came to me that way as unexpected freebies, and all three also have remained enduring faves). i found it such a touching level of attention and really guaranteed i'd be bound to find something i liked!
