BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

A sinister harvest, a bowl of freshly picked berries left as an offering beneath unsettling lime-tinged moonbeams, their juice staining pale hands red: crushed wild strawberries, night-blooming datura, goblin’s gold moss, dried berry incense, sticky honey, and a slow bleed of blackcurrant sap over cold white musk.

The opening of this one is YUMMY. An immediate crush of juicy, jammy berries, strawberries both tangy and sweet, with the blackcurrant bringing a fair bit of tartness. The lime is accenting and accentuating the berries' tartness beautifully, adding an extra citric zing, like lime zest grated over a bowl of crushed berries and blackcurrant sap. Strawberry Moon is having this very fascinating, slightly unsettling effect on me, where I keep getting the faintest whiff of incense, as if I'm catching incense on a breeze in the distance, but every time I go to sniff my skin directly, the incense disappears and all I get is berry. It's beguiling.

As it dries down, I get more of the honey, and the blend gets jammier without losing tartness...at first. About 2 hours in, it loses much of its intensity and complexity, and the strawberry goes from juicy and photorealistic to a fainter, sort of artificial-smelling/candy red fruit scent on a backdrop of faint musky honey. Sadly, this goes from "WOW" to "meh" for me. I'll keep my decant because the opening is GREAT, but unless it ages differently within the next month, I don't think a bottle purchase is in my future.

(I don't get any moss at all, but I have never once smelled BPAL's moss accord on me. At this point I'm convinced my skin has some sort of moss-resistant properties. Go figure.)

In the bottle, it's super fresh and super tart! I'm getting the ripe fresh strawberries and lots of pucker-worthy lime juice. This is off to a great start!

Wet on skin and warming up, the tartness eases slightly- but only slightly. I'm able to discern that black currant and that rich datura. This is getting more complex by the minute and I'm really, really into it.

Dry down- Y'all. Y'ALL. This went from a yummy daytime scent to something so heartbreakingly gorgeous that I cannot quite stand it. For reals. The incense comes out, the strawberry gets richer, the datura adds something dreamy and intense. I'm honestly a little speechless. I usually love the various incarnates of Strawberry Moon, but this one is something else entirely -and I mean *entirely*- different from anything I've encountered before.

Like...I might have to sell a kidney to get enough backup bottles
Okay fine- maybe not that.

But really, this is blowing me away.

Total. Love. :thud:

Of the currently available blends featuring wild strawberry as a note, this one is the most complex. The wild strawberry and incense notes are the main players on me, and these notes really come through in the throw (and the this scent has great throw). I get touches of the honey, florals, and moss, but only when I sniff up close, and with the moss, I could only smell it after sniffing close after the scent had been on all day.

Layered with Strawberry Moon: Wild Strawberries and Inky Musk: this ups the wild strawberry and the musk, of course!

Layered with Strawberry Moon: Kyphi and Sweet Cream: this ups the incense and also adds a smattering of buttery cream on top of it all.

Layered with Strawberry Moon: Zante Currants and Lime: this adds a nice brightness and tartness to the scent.

This is different than the other strawberry moons and I'm currently debating whether or not I need more of it before it goes away. In any case, I'll definitely be keeping my decant to pair with my Strawberry Moon: Wild Strawberries and Amber Hair Gloss. :cthulhu:
