BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

The grapefruit definitely dominates this one on me - it's a realistic pink grapefruit, with both the slight bitterness of the rind and the sweet brightness of the juice present for me. I get a little apricot in the background, and some soft florals; maybe more plum blossom than honeysuckle, but it's hard to quite distinguish under the loudness of the grapefruit. It feels very clean and cheerful, and goes in my head into the category of bpal scents which could almost be commercial perfumes, but with underlying complexity and realism which set them apart; I do think it would be very likable and palatable to many people, a good bpal gateway scent. The throw and longevity are lower than most of my other hair glosses, which might be just the inevitability of it being a citrus scent, or may improve with age.

I like the scent of grapefruit a lot, and find this nostalgic (my first perfume as a child was that Crabtree & Evelyn grapefruit eau fraiche from the '90's - does anyone remember those?), but I do wish the other notes came out a little more; I don't tend to want to smell so purely of citrus these days. I'm going to keep my decant around to see both if a little more aging brings out the other notes and also how I feel wearing it in especially hot weather, when I imagine it could be quite refreshing, before I decide whether I want a bottle.

This is a citrusy floral hair gloss, with the grapefruit, plum blossom, and honeysuckle honey being the standout notes to me. The grapefruit is the strongest note at first, but the floral notes are noticeable when freshly applied, and they seem stronger at the end of the day, when the grapefruit has calmed down (but is still present and has decent longevity for citrus). The honeysuckle honey has a quality to it that makes me think of honeysuckle nectar. I can smell the scent whenever I hold my hair up to my nose, but there is no throw when I walk around. And I think the white tea is there to support the grapefruit. But I don't get any of the amber cream or apricot, and that's fine with me.

I don't feel the need to upgrade this one to a bottle, as fruity floral scents generally aren't what I gravitate towards, and I'm more likely to reach for a straight-up citrus hair gloss for my citrus fix... but I think I'll keep the decant.

I...don't think I'm getting any plum blossom from this, which is fine. What I do get is currently a fruity candy, so probably a combo of grapefruit, apricot, and honey. Absolutely fine that there's no amber cream, given how that note seems finicky on me. The throw seems to fluctuate--sometimes I can smell it, sometimes I can't. This is similar to the throw level of Pomegranate Slush, I think, so I may get a bottle, depending on how the second try with this goes. I will say the lower throw probably makes it more appropriate for when you're going out in public or at the office, at least.
