doomsday_disco Report post Posted March 11 Polished santol wood warmed by sun, the faint sweetness of coconut husk and rice powder, crushed sampaguita blossoms, pandan leaf, and a touch of palm sugar, oud, and chocolate suman.
ghoulnextdoor Report post Posted April 19 The paradox of recognition without origin. I know this smell, except I don’t, except I do; something in the olfactory memory reaches for it and comes back empty-handed, certain it was there but wouldn’t recognize it if it was. A confectionary Saturday morning something, cottony and fruity and starchy-soft, heady-waxy florals. Turkish delight by way of circus peanuts, both and neither, made of lychee and guava, rolled in coconut powder. This smells like someone’s childhood, somewhere. Not mine. But somehow I feel the loss of it regardless.
brwnpaperhag Report post Posted 3 hours ago What a journey! It opens reminding me of banana, I’m guessing that’s the Suman, and silly me, I wasn’t expecting it to be in the opening, since it was listed last in the description (i can be very literal like that). Then the coconut comes barreling through right after, and for a minute, it also gives me the impression of peanuts. after that, it becomes super smoky - like, “whoa did we get transported to a fire pit?” Smoky. I sort of get the fruitiness of the pandan, somewhere in between the coconut and smoky stage, but am still waiting for the sampaguita (jasmine) to show up. The oud is a lurker, mingling now with the pandan to give it a really interesting base. As I sit here huffing my arm, it feels very familiar to me as well. It reminds me of standing downwind of the sweets section at the Filipino bakery, the part where all the sweet rice cakes are.
