    Eat Me

Yarg. I like sweet, but this is way too sweet for me. I love Candy Butcher, but the creaminess of this is kind of overwhelming. Still, what did I expect from the description? Nice, well described, but maybe one for the kitchen not for the wrist.

    The Ghost

I love this. It's a blissful, light, airy floral - like Bat Woman without the sinister undertone. Finally a floral that works on my skin, mysterious and lovely.

    The Candy Butcher 2006

Bliss. In a bottle. In the imp, cocoa, vanilla. Reminded me of hellcat. Not as foody as I was expecting. Wet on skin: cocoa. Whoa, cocoa. Didn't like it much. But ooo, oooh, on the drydown this wonderful rich vanilla chocolate cocoa blend came out, never too sweet, not too foody. I think I might have slathered a bit heavily, as one of my friends as I walked into her hall said that I smelled deliciously of vanilla. Bliss, bliss, bliss in a bottle. I'm hooked.

    Love Me

Love Me does not, sadly, love me. Within minutes of application I had a huge skin reaction which didn't go away for an hour even after washing it off. My skin still feels pretty tender eight hours later... boo!

    Zombi

I bought a big bottle of Zombi unsniffed, just because I liked the concept... and you know, I like the perfume too In the bottle; Yuk yuk yuk, sharp roses and muck. On the skin: Oooh, I'm liking this more. It's almost exactly the smell of the rose "perfume" I used to make with my gran by mushing up roses in water then filtering it. The dirt's there, but it's fresh dirt, like sitting on the grass in the garden by a rosebush. Drydown: Nice, mostly very very fresh roses with a hint of dirt underneath. Later: Some sweet notes have started coming through - a sort of sugared rose. This doesn't last long though. End notes: Fresh roses. Very nice. Overall: very nice, fresh and summery. Will probably use it more for roleplaying (the undead!) than real life, but will probably wear it from time to time to work, especially on very hot days, or in the grim depths of winter.

    Lightning

Interesting one, this. Bought a bottle on spec, really just because I've never worn a perfume so themed before. Also I like fresh smells. In the Bottle: Sharp and ozoney. Very fresh, very unisex. On Skin: Mmm. Lemon, with a hint of ozone. Nice, but a bit like toilet cleaner! Dry on skin: Lemon gently fading away, leaving a faintly lemony, crisp smell. Nose - tickly. Head - migraine developing. Really not an unpleasant smell at all; very clean, but not me at all. Also had no throw, and I had to stick my nose right up to my arm to get the smell. Swapped already!

    Agnes Nutter

This is wonderful! I bought it to use for a live-roleplaying character who's a musketeer, and wasn't expecting to enjoy it particularly. But it's amazing; it's intensely black-powdery in the bottle and wet on the skin, but as it dries it settles into a wonderful sharp, dark scent. Certainly the gunpowder's still there, as well as a wood-smoke element, but it's more than that - maybe the vetiver? Bonfires and fireworks... Perfect for my musketeer, but great for autumn and cold winter days, too.

    New Orleans

I got a rash the first time I tried this. I tried it a second time, just in case... and somehow I seem to have got away with it this time. It's a gorgeous scent, mostly jasmine on me (oh well!), thick, sweet and heady, and far less of a sense of decay than it seemed to have in the bottle. Not really a work smell for me (too heavy), or an evening smell (too floral), but nonetheless a keeper - maybe to scent letters, bath-water, silk dressing gowns, that sort of thing. (EDIT: Put some in the bath, lovely. Put some on my skin, bingo, instant rash again, burny, ow. Made the cat sneeze. Out! Out!)

This is bloody marvellous - the first BPAL that I've absolutely loved In the bottle - tantalising, fresh and sweet. No heaviness at all, but quite a strong smell. Wet on skin - sweet and more floral than fruity, but there's something of the fruit to it that stops it being a boring floral. Dry on skin - same notes, deepening and more complex. Warm, fresh, wonderful. I like this a hell of a lot, even more so now I know it doesn't just get devoured from my skin like every other one I've tried. Wonderful! A big bottle for me!

    La Petite Mort

Sweet, nice and sexy in the bottle- quite classically perfumey, I thought. Alas, went straight to baby powder on my skin, and stayed that way before fading off to nothing. Sad, because the sexy smell underneath was very nice... ... off to swaps!

    Eshe, A Vision of Life-In-Death (2006)

Nice and complex, this one. In the bottle: smells classically perfumey. Nice, light, classy. Quite alcohol-y. On the skin: myrrh mostly. There's a sharp smell which I think is the embalming fluid. Drydown: the myrrh and flowers start to blend. I can smell the jasmine starting to come through, which is nice, not overpowering. Later on: Very soft, sophisticated white flowers with a hint of resin. Very fresh and nice. Overall: Lovely, but too chic for me and not quite fresh enough. Also doesn't last nearly long enough I'll keep my imp and try her again, but not gasping for a bottle... yet.

    Thalassa, the Galapagos Mermaid

In the bottle: nice, quite cologne-ey, certainly smells aquatic. Reminds me of a Boots "Water" bubble bath I had when I was a kid. On the skin: Rich, complex, still very much an ocean scent. On the drydown: Florals starting to come through now. A rich, intoxicating jasmine, a hint of frankenscence. Salt suddenly comes through. Couple of hours later: This is now a rather sweet jasmine. Nice, but a little sweet for me. When it started to rain for some reason it amped up on my skin, and I was back in fresh seaspray heaven. Very, very nice perfume. Not sure it's me, but well worth another try. May well pick up a bottle before the Carnivale leaves town.

    Hellcat

In the bottle: very chemical, unpleasant On the skin: More buttery, with whiffs of some kind of horrible plastic smell coming through On the drydown: Oh yeah, that's more like it. Butter in waves, almonds coming out, honey, rum. This just gets better. Maturing: Soft, sweet, rich and sex in a bottle. This isn't a smell I would normally go for - I'm more of a fresh clean florals girl. But I think that this one might be a winner. I'll see what The Boy thinks tonight and see..

    Alice

Alice sounded like fun, so I got a bottle off ebay. I don't usually go for foody smells, but she sounded nice. In the bottle: weirdly, milk, honey and lemon. Nice. On the skin: Almost immediately, milky and powdery, with a hint of rose. This didn't really change much, though the floral notes came out as time went on. In the hair: oh yeah. The sharpness that seemed to be lost on my skin (which alas, seems to turn everything I touch to baby powder) came back, and it became intoxicatingly floral. I think wearing the two together (soft dry chalky milky skin with sharply carnationy hair) will be quite magnificent. And as a bonus, The Boy likes it too. Success!

    Wilhelmina Murray

In the bottle: grown up, incense and roses. On my skin: Not much in the way of roses. Faint tea rose, myrrh, sandalwood. Dry on skin: Alas, smells like rose incense sticks and soap. Not one that works on me.

    Sheol

Sheol: was a frimp, but I liked the description. In the bottle: Tantalising, intoxicating, wonderful florals with a musky, dark undertone. Wet on skin: Very musky. Some light florals. Incense becoming more prominent. Dry: Only musky incense, with an increasingly soapy note. Overall: not one for me. Made me smell of soapy hippies!

    Numb

I love violets, and thought I'd like this one. Unfortunately there's a chemical undersmell in the bottle that just gets magnified on my skin. I think from a moderate distance this is probably a classy clean violet smell, but it's just not me at all.

    Devil's Night

In the bottle: Pumpkins! On my skin: Pumpkins, hint of cinnamon, little bit musky Drying: Still spicy pumpkins, quite creamy. Gone within an hour. This one doesn't work on me

    Baron Samedi

In the bottle: Almonds, with a heavy dirty aftersmell. Wet on skin: Sweet almonds, cloves, hint of dirt Dries down to: Cloves with a hint of dirt. Not really my kind of thing but quite sexy in its way. Perhaps for a man in a warm climate?
