    Bakeneko

Oh, it's cinnamon sweet cinnamon. Wet it's so very similar to the delicious Bengal, but as this kitteh dries down that soft musk comes out to play and it's suddenly sensual. The longer it's on, the more the cinnamon backs off and I'm getting just a whiff of the floral behind the musk. This blend is playing beautifully on my skin. Kitteh starts with her claws out, and then climbs into bed with you and just puuuuuurrrrrrs. Divine. And I adore the label. Edit: Aaaaaand my idiot skin turns yet another wonderful blend into baby powder after an hour. It's going to have to join Minotaur in the "oil burner only" corner.

    The Ides of March 2005

Wet from the imp, this is all sharp green herbal. Love it! I cannot believe I get no lemon from this! What are the odds? But no, its all the yummy green stuff. It's so clean, fresh and invigorating, surrounded by lush green plants and running water. Mellows a little, but luckily doesn't stray too far from the dry down smell. I'm loving this. Have to keep my fingers crossed that there's going to be an IoM 2008. I'll be buying a bottle for sure.

    Minotaur

Oh wow. I could tell just by sniffing the bottle that I was going to love this. Wet, it is just one fantastic wave of myrrh and black musk. It's completely commanding. Ancient and huge. But as the blend dries, there's a softness as the balsam comes through. Underneath the minotaur is a man. This blend just captures it so perfectly. An utterly divine resin blend. Sexy, powerful, dignified, with a beautifully mellow dry down. If only I'd been BPAL-ing when this was available. *sigh* I'm so glad I have this bottle, and will be making it last as long as I can. Edit: Oh nooooooo! *weeps* Hours later it turns to baby powder on me. Damnit!! I still adore the wet and dry down phase though, and it's worth hoarding for that.

    La Fée Verte

A right-place-right-time imp score off a wonderful LJ seller. In the imp: Oooh! Wonderfully fresh and herby. Wet on skin: Oh god, my Lemon Nemesis strikes again. Dry down: Like a see-saw, I kept going from "nemesis!" to "oh, hang on...!". My skin just looooves to amp that lemon scent and for a while I thought this awesome sounding blend was going to suffer at the hands of my chemistry. But no! Go La Fee Verte! Now it's just gorgeous! Those yummy vanilla musk, honey, and spice notes are through. It's creamy and mellow. The bit of the lemon is still there, but far off in the background and behaving itself. Really lovely. This little imp will be treasured!

    Bengal

This was a frimp from the wonderful presotm - and my GOD she chose well! Wet: Oh dear lord yes. On the skin, cinnamon - beloved cinnamon. And oh the honey. LadyGrey said baklava, and I completely agree! (Mmm...baklava!) The cloves gently waft and the skin musk just adds that whisper of earthiness. Oh oh OH this a divine and delicious warming mix all the things I adore! Big bottle with bells on!!! Mine. MINE. MINE!

    Highwayman

Whoa! Down, vetiver, DOWN! I had to try this. Like evilmistressoftoast, I'm an Adam Ant fan. That man is single-handedly responsible for my 18th Century fetish. Like the cedar in MB: Ventriloquist Dummy, the vetiver in Highwayman is like a punch to frontal lobes. I avoided my wrist until it had dried and settled down. The dry down is better, the gardenia comes out, but the vetiver is still brutal. Finally the leather comes through. I wouldn't know night-blooming jasmine if I walked into it, but there's no cinnamon. Shame, as I might like it more if the yummy spice showed itself. I don't hate this. It's not my kind of boy-scent (I prefer my fellows to be warmer and more mellow), but on the right man, with the right outfit, this would stop traffic (without the flintlock pistol). Highwayman is a cruel, haughty and arrogant blend - a fantastic interpretation. Verdict: Not for me, but it's unique.

    Fire Pig

As soon as I sniffed this precious little imp I knew it was a winner! Oh, yummy and sweet, with a little spicy kick! I smell barley sugar and candy rock! And citrus and lychee! It's so ridiculously happy! This darling little piggy mellows on my wrist into a warm treat that I cannot stop sniffing. Little porcine pal - I need more of you!!

    Leanan Sidhe

Leanan Sidhe- ... Her perfume is a crush of Irish herbs and flowers, Gaelic mists, and nighttime dew. I'm a sucker for oil concepts. I admit it. There was no way I wasn't going to try Leanan Sidhe, and really hoped that, despite the floral, It might morph into something magical and evocative. I really really have to learn to say no to floral. She's not mythical, she's not misty, the glamour isn't on, and I'm not transported to times of Irish myth. Instead, Leanan Sidhe has just had a good wash with Palmolive soap, bunged in a bit of hairspray, and she's off to do a spot of shopping. Woe. Edit: added lab description.

    51

I really expected something a bit more...odd...from 51. Something unearthly and eerie, and I wanted to smell the scrub and smashed wood and night air. But I didn't. Green floral wet, green floral on dry down. Settles into the type of standard perfume that I've never been fond of. Not a whiff of the fruity notes. I suspect the freesia and neroli are the culprits. Musk usually shows itself on my skin, but it's not here. Doesn't morph much at all actually. 51 is pretty, inoffensive and sadly unremarkable. Not for me.

    Monster Bait: Ventriloquist Dummy

I'm with Jenesis on this. First whiff from the imp and the overpowering cedar was like a freshly cut slab of wood. Then on my skin, it just amped right up to hot, dry, unpleasant cedar shavings. It was suffocating, like being in a new sauna - with inescapable throw. My first "scrub it off!!!" oil. And it's still there when I smell my wrist. I love wood, but this is overkill. Swap pile, Mr Imp. Now.

    Thunder Moon

Wet: Ozone in the face! I love it! Oh this is good. This is so very very good. Luscious crisp, clean ozone with all the promise of thunderstorm drama. The dry down is divine as those delicious woods just drift underneath. The barest, faintest touch of floral makes this unisex. So yummy. It's clean, strong, with a sexy warmth. Blast and bugger it, I wish I'd ordered a bottle. I will be hoarding this darling imp until I can nab a 5ml.

    Cancer 2007

The first sniff from the imp was incredible. Sweet, juicy, unique and the underlying floral. On my skin - Sweet pretty floral. It seems to be the sweet pea and pear that dominate. Drying down, it's fading. The sweet pea lingers and now I get the "something warm" just underneath. But yep...fading. My skin's letting this one go, I'm afraid. I'm a cancer, but not this sort of cancer. While florals tend to behave on my skin, I feel like a bit of a liar when I wear them. I'm just not a sweet floral girl, despite loving sweet pea and jasmine when they're in someone's garden. That said, Cancer 2007 is a lovely blend. It's pretty, slyly romantic, wistful and very summery (which is another thing with me and this blend - Southern Hemisphere Cancerians are winter kids. It's freezing and this really is a sunshine and cool breezes scent. I'll try this again when summer hits.). If you're a sweet floral girl, I can't see how you wouldn't love it. It's doing everything right. Me? Personally I liked the wet stage far more than the dry. It would be the sort of scent I'd love to smell on someone else. Edit: Okay, the longer this stays on my skin, the more I go from "not for me" to . Hours later and the sweet pea is cloying and making me sick. I had to purge it from my wrist and change tops. I'll be avoiding sweet pea like the plague. Shame, because the wet stage really was beautiful.

    Buck Moon

Oh my god, what a changeling. Wet and on the skin: Lemon. Followed by lemon laundry soap. I fear my skin is going to do this to a distressing number of BPAL blends. The lemon soap just seemed to stick around, and I was prepared to write it off to my annoying skin chemistry - but remarkably, the lemon has now faded far into the background. I'm finally getting the musk. It's very light, very airy and gentle with a touch of warmth. There's a pretty whisper of a floral underneath. Not the musky buck I was hoping for, but It's quite lovely. I'm not in love with the blend (like I thought I might), which is a good thing, since I'd rather not love a long-gone LE - but I'll hold onto the imp. EDIT: Whoa. Hours and hours later and my lemon-nemesis has completely gone. Now I'm going to have to eat my words and say that I AM rather in love with this blend. The musk is divine. It's also triggered a major nostalgic memory - it smells like the perfume my first grade teacher wore (I was very fond of her). I can't believe it, it's such a memory scent! It's pure warm joy. Darnit. Now I'm going to be jumping if I see a bottle up for sale anywhere.

    White Rabbit

I've had this on my want list for ages, and scored a frimp of it from a lovely seller. All excited, all those notes sound so gorgeous on paper. Alas... Wet: Lemon. Obnoxious lemon. No lemon IN the blend, but my skin doesn't seem to care. Drydown: I can just detect that tea note fighting for air, but the all-powerful lemon is just killing it. After a little while, White Rabbit finally recovers enough to tease me with something else, but it's fading from my wrist so fast I'm not sure that I'm not simply willing myself to smell those milk/honey/linen notes I was so keen for. It's the ghost of other notes, but the lemon keeps on waving at me. So sadly, my skin does this blend no favours.

    Samhain

First ever review, first blend, and such a scent! This one's Samhain 05, and from the bottle and wet on my skin I was wary. Very herbal, almost cough syrup-like. But drying down that faded and now I can really smell the cloves and allspice in amoungst the herbs. It's warm and the sweetness is coming out. The throw is lovely. It's freezing here today, and this is a delicious, spicy, warm drinking-mulled-wine-by-a-fire scent in someone's cosy, dark wood cabin. And oh how I wish I was. So glad I snagged a bottle. ADDENDUM: Staying power! Wow! I've had a shower and it's still wonderfully haunting my wrist. Beautiful, and just keeps on mellowing out.
