    Butterflies and Plovers

Earthy, fruity, soft, and fresh all at the same time. I think it's attractive, not really "me," but very interestingly balanced. The prettier notes leave my skin sooner than I'd like, and it dries down to a light patchouli skin scent. 3.4 out of 5

    Luxuria Bath Oil

I have a decant of this, so I am reviewing it for scent only: I think it's fruity, red, and juicy, with an intoxicating swirl of red musk and rich patchouli, the slightest hint of orange, and a subtle underlying nutty foody tone from the nutmeg and vanilla. I agree that there is something very Mme. Moriarty about this, with just a little more going on. Fantastic! Super sexahfied.

    Aureus

This hardly happens to me, but I didn't even want to try this one on my skin. It smells like wood and patchouli to me, but it has a dusty, dry air about it. I don't think it's my thing. Sorry! Edit to add: I tried it on my skin, and the sandalwood warmed up, but the patch is still dusty and dry. I honestly kind of hate it.... ADDED Nov. 1: Ew, this is all pencil shavings. Come to think of it, I thought I reviewed this already. (?) Not a fan, anyhow.

Why are LEs limited? Will they come back?

Hi olive! I think that I understand that you're speaking in general and business terms, and when you refer to 'options' you are talking GC blends, LE blends, and single notes as options. I found your comment particularly curious because I see BPAL from the opposite perspective, which is that they have so many damn options that I'll never ever have a chance to try half of everything. Between all of the limited blends, the hundreds of GC perfumes, the Trading Post, and TAL, I think that the overwhelming array of choices is a huge part of what attracted me to BPAL in the first place. I hope to be optioned till the day I die from BPAL....hopefully Beth and Ted's little angel-bibby will carry on the tradition!
  5. I have since found that Titania, Squirting Cucumber, and Green Phoenix is a fun Tranquil-breezes-esque combination. Nothing beats the original though....glad I've got a half-bottle of the cologne spray : -D

    The Best Ylang Ylang Scents!

Seduction smells like ylang-ylang to me, but for some reason I don't really like it.

    Monster Bait: biggerCritters

Ummm...... I don't know what to say about this fragrance. It is certainly another unique, one-of-a-kind BPAL blend. Wet, it starts out smelling like a creamsicle (orange and vanilla) although it's grapefruit, I know. That aura quickly disappears and then suddenly it smells like jasmine-bomb and angel food cake. It's so weird! I think I like it, but wow! It's sooooo weird!!! My bwain is scwambled.

    The Ecstasy of True Love

This smells like body odor to me. No thank you! Edit to add: Hmm, weird, I tried it a couple months later, and Now I can smell the peach blossom thing. I think the patchouli is a little out of place, and maybe that's what smelled like Eau Bo the first time around. I still don't like it though Such is life.

    Budding Moon

Budding Moon is a candied fruity scent that smells fresh, bright, heady, creamy, sweet....all at the same time. I can't pick out notes because most of the components in this perfume are unfamiliar to me. I'm not sure if I like it or not, but it is very light-hearted and fun. A puzzler for my nose....

    Sea of Tranquility

This is a bit too high-pitched for me. I don't usually dig aquatics so much, so maybe that's part of it, but there's just something about this blend that makes me feel headachey. Not a fan.... 2 out of 5

How long do bottles & imps last?

Thursdae that's hilarious! I have yet to finish a bottle off, and the ones that I have that are low are from decanting (and none of those are less than half). It's hard for me to commit to a scent for more than a day or two, because there are so many BPALs to try and so little time!! And there are so many of them that smell just intoxicatingly gorgeous on me, that I don't find myself becoming very monogamous with a single blend for long. However, I still have some serious favorites, and I know which blends I will be likely to empty out first: #1. Sleepy Moon (my favorite sleep aromatherapy, good thing I have 6 bottles! ) #2. Chimera (a new infatuation - cinnamon vanilla with a woodsy edge and enticing style! I wore it several days in a row, and I just traded for an aged bottle, and I'm in heaven! It will go fast....) #3. Snake Oil (yeah it doesn't get much better than that, does it? ) Great thread!

    Fairy Market

Very pretty, soft, feminine, delicate, sweet.... It's almost a honeyed floral scent. Very well blended, the incense note is very faint and adds just a hint of warmth and roundness. The green/grassy note is also not too intense - it offers some balance for the sugared wildflowers but doesn't ever take over. The wet stage is more complex than the dried-down fragrance. After wearing it for a bit, I just smell a light, powdery floral dusted with sugar. I'm very glad I tried it! It's a little too sweet and innocent to be something I'd wear often, but it definitely makes me think of spring faeries. 4.3 out of 5

    Wilde

This reminds me of Ralph Lauren Polo Sport, Estee Lauder Pleasures for Men - cool, sexy man scents that get my blood flowing. This smells like the guy I had a crush on in high school. Holy frickin hell this conjures up some strong memories! I almost feel giddy and nervous, I'm standing at my locker trying to act cool and the hottest guy in school is telling me a joke and I am careful not to laugh too hard because I'm so tense and he's so Gooorgeous.... This scent is soooo sexy. I love that I can get a BPAL like this! A man-fume that is alcohol-free and totally sexified for my man to slather on, something that isn't $80 a bottle and watered down with alcohol and preservatives. Those of you who are interested in finding men's cologne-type scents that are a little more special than commercial scents, yet are totally approachable, should definitely try Wilde. And, Villian. Both are fan-freakin-tastic! 4.8 out of 5

    Queen of Clubs

G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!! I totally love BPAL myrrh, and this is certainly no exception. There is an earthiness about QoS, but it smells more like sweet soil than something pointedly "dirty." I am also getting a hint of incensey sweetness (aside from the myrrh), and it smells a touch like grape soda (kind of like Temple Viper, but just a hint of grape rather than a dominating force). My favorite myrrh BPAL so far! It's honestly almost single note myrrh on me after it dries down for a few minutes - and it droooool fabulous! I'll treasure my decant. I only wish that I tried it when it was new and fresh, because I bet that through aging some of the supporting notes have faded and mellowed out. 4.7 out of 5

    Ice Queen

Brr, this is chilly! There is a hint of pine or juniper, with a cool woolmitten/snow note and an icy, aquatic base. It's a high-pitched whistling winter wind. People who are drawn to snow/aquatic blends should definitely try to grab bits of the Ice Queen. I happen to not be one of those people, so I will be passing my sniffie along to share. It kind of almost gives me a headache....It's just too fresh for me, even though I can appreciate why it has so many fans. 2.5 out of 5

    Old Moon

This is what I had expected TP'ed Trees to smell like! In the bottle, it smells like pine sap, straight-up. Once I put it on my skin, it softens into a wearable, green scent. I can smell the juniper, the pine is still present, and there are some lunar florals in the background giving the fragrance an elegant twist. There is something about Old Moon that is fantastic with my chemistry....When I sniff my wrist close up, I smell mostly pine and juniper, but as an aura, one of the floral notes wafts up and smells just beautiful. It really does smell like walking in an evergreen forest dusted with the first snow. Another fascinating scent from Beth! I am not sure if I need a full bottle, but I will surely keep a decant if I decide to pass the bottle along. I'd be interested to see what this smells like once it's aged. 4.2 out of 5

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

This is not for BPAL, but rather, for tea.... (?? you say?) Tea of Life Tropical Sorbet smells like Hawaiian Punch to me. If you like trying fruity teas, you should give it a shot, it's yummalicious! http://www.distinctive-decor.com/tea-of-li...cal-sorbet.html I'm drinking it right now. 'S good!

Cake, cookies, donuts, baked goods, even Cinnabon

I am seconding aged Chimera for the cinnamon rolls, it has quickly skyrocketed to one of my top 3 favorite BPALs, it's just diviiiiiine *drool* I haven't tried Chimera lab-fresh yet, so I don't know what it smells like new, but I'll know soon enough when I place my next order ; -)

    Antique Lace

A sugary vanilla musk, with the same "cotton" note as Black Lace. This does smell a lot like Victoria's Secret Vanilla Lace to me, but I said the same about Dorian, so who knows with my nose.... This certainly is sweet, but it's not cakey or buttery like many vanilla scents can be. I do think it's pretty; however, I like Black Lace a little more and will wear BL when i crave this kind of fragrance. If I had tried AL first, maybe I would have bought a 5mL, but since I have BL I don't feel the need to have a lighter, more innocent version. I see why there are so many fans of Antique Lace, because it is so easily enjoyable, soft, and pleasant. Glad I got to try it! 4.2 out of 5

    Nemesis

Wet, this is sweetly piney from the cypress. The pine disappears almost instantly, and it quickly dries down into a powdery, sweet patchouli. The combination of fig, patchouli, and tonka bean is very interesting, and makes for a scent that's unique but still approachable - and somehow familiar. This would be a great fragrance for patchouli enthusiasts to try out, as it brings out a different edge to patch. The sweetness of the fig really complements the dryness and smokiness of the patchouli and the balance that is struck between creamy/sweet/fruity and woodsy/smoky creates almost a powdery scent. Fascinating. I don't need to keep it, because it's not really my style, but it's a well-executed, finely tuned perfume. 4.1 out of 5

    The Unheavenly City

I knew I would love this, and Surprise! Delicious red blend - it's Dragon's Blood without cloying smokiness, just smooth, juicy sweetness. There might be red fruits in here, I saw people mention cherry. And, the creamiest pretty gardenia, ooohh! As it dries, the sweetness mellows and the incense quality comes out a bit more. It's absolutely freakin gorgeous, I wish I could get more! Maybe I will try layering Dragon's Milk with some gardenia and cherry. However - The longer I have this on, I do have to echo sentiments that I wish the opening stage lasted longer. The juiciness and gardenia fade awfully fast, and all that lingers is faint incense and a hint of sandalwood. Not awful, but not what grabbed me in the beginning. It's like a flash of red hot passion and it's so good and so completely delectable and then all of a sudden - it's low-key and lazy. Nice, but not making-me-drool-good-times. The opening stage is a 4.8 out of 5, the dried-down scent is a 3 out of 5.

    Nefertiti

Wow, another winner! I have reviewed like 6 new loves in a row the past few days, this is crazy! The combination of iris, white florals, gentle herbs, and the softest bass note of myrrh and sandalwood...it is just magical. Upon drydown, the florals die down somewhat and the sandalwood and myrrh take the stage. What a lovely morph! Simple and elegant and just makes me feel a little like royalty, myself. I miss the opening stage, but it's still really pretty. My dog just went nuts over the spot where I tested on my finger : -D She likes it, all sniffing and trying to lick it! Hehehe she's never done that before for BPAL (peanut butter maybe, but perfume?) Nefertiti is another perfectly balanced blend. Beth continues to amaze me. BPAL oils are all masterpieces of fine art! Did I say I'm a fan of this scent? Yeah? Good. 4.3 out of 5

    Dove's Heart

I tend to like soapy florals, so after reading reviews, I had a good feeling about this oil. In the imp, it's reminding me a little of Eos and Bitch...it's herbal, and floral. Maybe lavender? Maybe not? Honeysuckle? Ylang-ylang? Urgh I have no clue, my nose is failing me. On my skin, it goes super-soapy, and ends up smelling a lot like a Plumeria Lei perfume oil that I got from Hawaii. Translation: aaahhhhhh mmmmmm. I know it's soapy, but it's also quite lovely, in my saponified-soul's opinion. I hope I don't have to test it for intent any time soon, but after an argument I will see if it helps get me out of "The Red." I think it's really soothing, and it smells like a morning type scent to me. 4.2 out of 5

    Chimera

Oh my goodness this is fantastic! The combination of cinnamon and myrrh is just delicious! It smells like cinnamon buns or snickerdoodle cookies, yes, but it's a touch more mysterious than that...I never get honeysuckle out of it, but I don't care, whatever its purpose is in this scent, it's serving it well without being too forward. My decant may be well-aged, as well, and if this is the case perhaps the honeysuckle fades over time. The sweet resins in this scent are just a hint woodsy (maybe the copal?), and as a whole this scent reminds me of that cult scent People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo. Except that with POTL, I got wafts of Play-Doh and cherry, and Chimera does not do the Play-Doh thing at all Having said that, I bet that if Chimera was layered with a dark cherry, it would be even more fun! And, having read some reviews, I might try this layered with Snake Oil today. I hope I can get to work without passing out from scentctasy... I did not expect to like this blend, and I am more than pleasantly surprised....I will certainly hold on to my imp, and the possibility of a 5mL is looking good. !!!! !!!! 5 out of 5 ETA: I've worn this 3 days in a row so far. I never do that with perfume, I have too many things I want to try and I like variety. Chimera is changing me.....It's like a cinnamony Snake Oil with crack in it. Easily in my top 3. True Love!!!!!!!!

    something similar to Chloe Narcisse?

Try and find an imp of TP'ed Trees. I really really have no idea why, but it reminds me of Chloe Narcisse.
