    Urania

I wasn't expecting to like this so much, but immediately it evoked images of starry nights, and I couldn't put it down. I'm going to try to make a solid out of this, since it doesn't stick around long on me. I was afraid of the jasmine, but really, it's very nice here.

The Bow & Crown of Conquest

This is so gorgeous, but unfortunately my lovely boy won't wear it! I'll have to wear it myself, despite how masculine it may be. It smells like cocoa and leather to me,... fantastic! <3

    Masquerade

This scent had my entire household in an uproar. Everyone thinks it smells like Old Spice. I, however, think it smells... like patchouli. And I despise patchouli. This is the second time I've received this as a frimp, too! On to swaps with Masquerade!

    Eden

There is something in Eden that does NOT agree with me. It smells strong, powdery, and sour all at once on me - nauseatingly. Unbearably. I wish I got the fantastic experience from this scent that others did, but I react to this how I reacted to O. I have to figure out their common factors and stay away from any BPAL with that note in it. It simply doesn't work on my skin.

    The Jersey Devil

I think I'm going to wear this around the holidays. It's so pretty, mostly cranberry and pine on me, grounded by cedar - no blackberry leaf or tomato leaf (well, I probably couldn't identify them if they DID show up on my skin!). Pretty pretty. Wow, this truly is the best Christmastime scent I have ever smelled.

    Dragon's Tears

This is pretty. I recognize Dragon's Blood right off, and something that smells a little like cherry. There's also something light in this that brightens it up, far in the background that lifts it up - probably the "tears". :] It's nice, but I wouldn't wear it. Maybe it'd be better suited to a male friend of mine.

    Lightning

I'm testing this on my arm side-by-side with R'lyeh and The Deep Ones, as I ordered three aquatic scents with this past order. And let me say, I wouldn't notice this unless I were testing them all side-by-side: Lightning is considerably, well, lighter. It's brighter, clearer, like well... a streak of lightning. It's very nice. It made me smile, actually... reminds me of a candle I once smelled.

    The Deep Ones

This is lovely, so I can't figure out why more people haven't tried it. It's a very nice aquatic, masculine, with a whisper of fruit. Pretty.

    R'lyeh

The sunken city of the Great God Cthulhu. A hellishly dark aquatic scent, evocative of fathomless oceanic deeps, the mysteries of madness buried under crushing black waters, and the brooding eternal evil that lies beneath the waves. This is so... waaaah! I instantly felt all bouncy and happy upon sniffing this. This is great. I wouldn't expect the great Cthulhu's resting place to smell like this, but ... pink ripe grapefruit and ocean water. What an unlikely combo, but it's so... wow. Favorite for me! I was so lucky with this batch of imps. :]

    De Sade

This is wonderful. The first true leather scent I have found... I can't wait to layer this with things! <3

    O

I'm heartbroken as I write this. This was the oil I was most excited about... and I despise it. Hate hate hate. It's sickening powder and mildew on me. Yuck. Layering it with De Sade, it starts to smell a little like the S-Perfume "S-EX", but more bearable. ETA: My darling boyfriend slathered some on his wrist, even though I saw him with "O" and screamed "NO, don't do it, it's terrible!" And you know what? On my darling boyfriend, it's not terrible at all. It's a really nice, warm amber-vanilla. Not the stuff of orgasms, but still nice. Ohhh, vile skin chemistry. I guess O will go to the boy then.

    Miskatonic University

This is fabulous! FABULOUS! I have always loved the smell of coffee (almost more than coffee itself) and what I get from this straight away is a HOT caramel latte with a shot of espresso and a sprinkling of cinnamon. I drink these things twice a week, my little moment of heaven, and here's the scent captured in an oil! I'M IN LOVE! As time goes on, it smells more like cinnamon rolls on me, but I don't care, because I love those too. This is... amazing! Then I get worried, because it starts smelling "burnt". Like oak, and BURNT cinnamon rolls. Uh-oh, I hope this passes... the burnt note is only noticable if you take a BIG whiff of it, but I love big whiffs of coffee and cinnamon rolls! Please go away, burnt note! On my boy, this smells like "popcorn and jelly bellies". In truth, I smell coffee and oakwood on him, but I'll let him think what he likes, as long as he wears this for me! I'm living vicariously through him, since this gorgeous scent turned to charred food on me.

    Euterpe

I'll have to try this again another time, as my nose is a little tuckered out from all the sniffing. However, at this time, I somehow smell mint and lemon , and something almost sickeningly warm and sweet - is that the honeysuckle? Hmm... On second thought, I dunno if I WANT to try this again later. As it stands now, it's an oddly warm and spicy scent with a breath of mint and so much honey I can practically taste it in my mouth. Good lord. O_O Not for me.

    Ophelia

Though I don't like rose scents often, white roses are my favorite flower, and this description was absolutely irresistable - it sounded like an evocative, delicate, angelic scent, with the lightest and whitest touches of everything... And it is! Like a previous reviewer said, it's very "rosewater". And I smell all the other watery bits and pieces, the halo of white flowers. This is very, very pretty. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. Yay!

    Moon Rose

This is pretty, but not as delicate and ethereal as I hoped - it's more like a rose soap I used to love. It's nostalgic, but I don't think I'd wear it much.

    Psyche

Oh my goodness, this is great! I used to have a cheap "rose" perfume when I was younger, and I adored the smell of it. When I first found BPAL, I tried all the rose scents I could, and I just was starting to think I would NEVER find a good rose - they were all so different from my memory - until now. I'm not a fan of any rose but the one from when I was younger, and by god, this is it. I bought it only because I love the Psyche myth, ignoring the rose note, and I'm so happy I did. It's a very light scent on me, creamy, delicate rose. I don't get any lavender, which makes me very, very happy. This is gorgeous. I might actually venture out and pick up a bottle.

    Lady MacBeth

Wet, I loved this. It smelled like cherries and berries and all those juicy things I love. Unfortunately, as soon as it dried, it turned to pink chapstick on me. I had such high hopes for this one, too...

    Blood Countess

Bottle: Bubblegum and cough medicine. First 10 minutes: Bubblegum. 20 minutes: This stuff smells like a craft store on me. It's kind of nice - maybe as a room scent. It's funny how fruity and spicy this turns out on my wrist... skin chemistry is a funny thing. For now, though, this isn't something I want to smell like.

Gourmand - Foody Scents - General Recommendations

I ordered six BPAL imps some time ago, and not having been too happy with any of them, didn't order again until recently. I ordered about 32 of them, everything that caught my eye, and I'm wanting to place yet ANOTHER order, but I'm far too afraid to order bottles unsniffed and I don't know what else could possibly be out there for me. O_O I DON'T like patchouli, or lavender, and while I keep trying to find a rose that will work for me, they all seem too sharp (I tried Two Five & Seven in my first order). [...are there any mellow rose scents?] But the meat of the other perfumes and oils and lotions I own are foody scents, and while I find some here and there, I often can stare right at something and not see it, so I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. I ordered Tezcatlipoca for its cocoa and leather notes (love both!), along with O (vanilla&honey, eh?) and Miskatonic University (for its coffee note! <3). Anything I'm missing?

    Charisma

I can't believe it's taken me so long to review this. Scent-wise, I can't place it - it smells kind of creamy, but also like a kind of musk my father used to be very partial to. It's not masculine, imo, but unisex. I have been wearing this just as instructed - one drop on each chakra point - almost every morning for about two weeks. I have been having perpetual bad hair days, bad skin days, bad makeup days, etc and knowing that I'm wearing something that's supposed to downplay my flaws improves upon my mood almost instantly. More noticeable though was the affect on others. Everyone around me seems enamored, vying for my attention. My boyfriend, too, has appeared... starry-eyed, I guess you could say, and every day I'm wearing this, there is some point during the day that he gets uber-romantic, cuddles me and tells me I'm beautiful, his girl, etc. It's adorable. I also FORGET the flaws I'm trying to downplay while I have this on. Instead of whipping out my mirror to check my face every two minutes as I normally would on a terrible day (not vain, just obsessive!) I completely neglect to take it out at all. That's PHYSICAL flaws. I haven't even used it yet with the intention of hiding anything deeper than that. But I can't see why it wouldn't work there, too! Fantastic.

    Caliph's Beloved

Wow, does this stuff work. I applied some to my base chakra, throat, and heart and rubbed the residue on my wrists about five minutes ago, and already I'm getting butterflies in my stomach. In me, it seems to be inducing a dizzying sort of lustfulness, one where all your inhibitions are gone and it's a smoldering, seductive passion blossoming in their place. This may be due to the cinnamon-y note that I'm smelling. Hot, indeed. I have said many a time that patchouli does not work on me, and that I despise it, and I do. Luckily, there are other notes in this scent-wise that seem to keep it from going to hell on me. But then again, this isn't meant for use as a perfume. I must emphasize the DIZZYING part, though that may be due to a sniff of White Light before applying this - I feel... not tired, but my head is in the clouds, so to speak. That said, Caliph's Beloved definitely delivers. I have yet to see if it intensifies over time... ETA: It does. It even disrupted my sleep. In the best possible way, of course.

    Masquerade

I'm going to keep this short before I go on a tangent about how much I despise patchouli. Ahem. This was a freebie in my imp order, so I didn't know quite what to expect. As soon as I applied it, I kept sniffing it, wondering why it smelled so FAMILIAR to me. So inexplicably nostalgic. It was bringing back memories of an hold head shop I used to frequent, but with a prominent citrusy note that made me scrunch my nose in disgust. I was not surprised to find the notes listed as having patchouli and orange blossom. I narrowed my eyes at the screen when I saw that. "Patchouli. You little bugger." It's not terrible about half an hour after application, but the mellow-ed out version does not atone for the blast of patchouli and orange. Ugh, I hate patchouli...

    Shub-Niggurath

It's very gingery. For the first twenty minutes I could smell some sort of citrus in there as well, and my mother said it smelled like incense to her, though I can't agree. Now all I'm getting is ginger. Vaguely reminiscent of cookies, but mostly just plain ginger. Nice, but not for me. Very strong, btw. Very.

    Nocturne

Early on, this smells very strongly of violets, which I like but am not crazy about (why did I order this again? oh, yes, for the imagery evoked by its lovely name...), with a hint of lilac in the background. Once on me for, say, twenty minutes, the lilac grows stronger and prettymuch overtakes the violets. This is not bad at all, because I love lilac with a passion. However, a slight plasticky note has risen as well, though only detectable by a deep, life-giving inhale if my nose is very close to my skin. I like this. It's pretty. I don't love it, but I like it. Probably something I'll wear when going to bed or lounging about - it brings a serene sort of calm feeling to mind.

    Two, Five & Seven

Imp: Dear god, ROSES! Wet: Very strong roses with something green in the background. Fifteen minutes: The greenness has moved to the fore, but the roses are still very strong, as if vying for my attention and threatening to stomp out the grassy note. Throw is decent, but mostly because of the bloody roses! I really wanted to love this, but goodness, the roses are so strong... I think I might have to pass this on if they don't quiet down.
