    Eve

I'm definitely getting the relation to Morocco. This is drier and more spiced to me, with that rich rose component in the background. Morocco's older sister if you will. I let this rest a week to make sure I had the full impact. The rose fades quite quickly on me which was the part that made this scent stand out to me, and in the end I get a rich spiced vanilla incense that reminds me a great deal of Morocco. Lovely, but I think I will pass her on to someone who will love her more passionately. ETA: I got a bottle in the restock because I totally forgot I had tried this! Well, I love it now! I feel like I get a bit more frankincense and rose this time around, but more or less still feel the 'older sister to Morocco' vibe is accurate.

In the imp: apple candy Wet: more natural tart green apple and sharp herbal birch (almost smells like leather to me) Dry: The apple and apple blossom are the most prominent, floral and sweet but with a tartness. I get just a hint of birch underneath and it no longer reminds me of leather, just a soft herbal note. Loving this as a spring apple scent.

    Cicuta

In the bottle I get bright frankincense and the thin smoke of a blown-out candle, with a whiff of red rose. Wet: Lots of frankincense and that earthy dark sweetness of saffron. A little smoky at the edges. Dry the incense and saffron calm down and the dry rose petals come back with a dribble of candle wax and smoke. It all blends seamlessly together giving the impression of an old library to me.

    504 Gateway Time-out

Frimped by the lab, many thanks! This is so interesting. The mint seems really sharp and bracing (in a good way!) and I want to say it's spearmint, but then it gets sweeter like peppermint. Does remind me of a pine/citrus snow. I also get some lime, and maybe some grass though that could just be all the green-associations mingling. There's definitely more going on here, but that is the best I can do to parse it out. I love green scents and this one is a bit different than my others and wish it came in a bottle!

    Squirting Cucumber

I first bought a bottle of this back in 2009 before I found the forum and liked it (after I adjusted to the difference between BPALs and commercial perfume). I remembered it being intensely juicy and green, and when I got back into BPAL I never tried it again in favor of green scents that I found softer. However, I just got a frimp of this and its so different than I remember. Juicy but soft grassy cucumber, might need a new bottle!

    Lyonesse

Oh my. The golden vanilla and musk meld beautiful with the ambergris that my skin amps. So largely this is a warm, vanillic salty skin scent on me. I catch just hints of the sea moss occasionally making this a lovely non-traditional beach scent. Will need more.

    Lavender Lace

The lavender starts off really soft on my skin and vaguely reminds of Waiting and makes me think of rainy days. Dry it's a smoky dry lavender that makes me think of incense, backed soft vanilla and tobacco to keep it from being too dry or smoky. Very soft and nostalgic, perfect for rainy days.

    Memorials of Friendship

In the imp this smells somewhere between peach candy and hairspray. Wet it is peach candy with incensy champaca, which I hope won't go sharp on me. Dry the ambergris amps on me giving a warm, lightly sweet musky base. The peach lightens up and gives a lightly fruity breeze, and the neroli is heady and a bit bitter, cutting some of the sweetness. The champaca adds the incensy vibe and is a little sharp, but is balanced by the sweeter notes.

    Snake's Kiss

Oh no! I was hoping between Cotton Phoenix and Womb Furie my amped up Snake Oil needs were covered. Some how I still need it. It has the extra thick honey sweetness of Womb Furie with the creamy poof of Cotton Phoenix, and a little extra brightness. Gorgeous.

    Smut

2018 Really digging this. Dark and sugary, boozy in the throw. Something about the musks reminds me of The Red Egg, vaguely fruity, reddish musk. Very nice.

    Sept

I would call this a sunny rose. There's something so bright and warm about it. I definitely get a good hit of sweet vanilla, and the frankincense is less "gritty" than I normally find it. I think it might be contributing to the brightness as well. Absolutely fabulous scent, and I think I'll need both the perfume and the HG!

    The Pearl Seeker Bath Oil

I liked this much more than I thought I was going to considering the orris. It does not go overly sweet or powdery to me just a faint elegant powder in the background as it dries on the skin. At first this is mostly lavender to me, and a soft damp lavender. I think the name influences me somewhat because I want to say there is something softly aquatic about it even though there are no aquatic notes. Maybe dewy would be a better adjective. As it settles on the skin I definitely get a good dose of peony and bit more sweetness from the honey. The orris and sandalwood form a really soft and comforting base.I found this scent soothing even with a migraine! Definitely full bottle worthy for me.

    Phallus-Headed Bird Hair Gloss

So interesting! To me I would categorize this scent as "warm brown". The softness of the hay and sandalwood blends with the kukui nut for a warm, earthy scent. That is a majority of the scent for me. The mango is definitely in the background, adding some light and creamy sweetness. It's definitely not juicy, fresh mango. So comforting. Like a late afternoon summer nap.

    Sapphics

2018 Version This makes me think of a rainy day, and the moss actually smells quite nice on me in this. Damp greens and cool gray clouds is what this smells like. Makes me want a cup of tea and a book. I love it more than I was expecting!

    Novel Ideas for Secret Amusements

Hmmm I think the ivory is orris, as I had feared. Starts off with a dusty, ultra-sweet violet like note. Dry it dials down a bit and I get some of that wonderful amber cream but the orris is a bit much for me.

    Herbal, resin, dry and bitter

If you like dry sage scents Djed (a retail exclusive so maybe a bit tough to find) might be worth trying!

    Cat Chasing Butterflies

In the imp: peach blossom and cherry-ish almond Wet: cherry-almond cream with amber and a little peach blossom. Dry: bitter musky cherries and a bit of beautiful peach blossom. Well, they can't all be winners!

Vivid Enjoyment of the Memory of Rupture

In the imp: bright, zingy, juicy green Wet: now distinctly ginger, fresh ginger not baked goods.Still a healthy amount of green underneath. Something steamy about this. Dry: Still lots of bright fresh ginger and greens. Underneath I get a bit of creaminess and a little bit of sweet cardamom. Lovely and energizing.

Woman Dragging Her Aroused Lover Across a Bridge

In the imp: rich sweet woods. Wet: the amber and vanilla come out and blend so well with the woods. I get the sweet almost floral tone of rosewood distinctly. Dry: Similar to wet, but with a little more of the musky ambrette seed coming out. The vanilla is a dry one, absolutely beautiful with the woods. Fantastic and may need an upgrade to a bottle!

Visiting the Sumida River with a Geisha

Okay I wanted to try this because something about the blue musk and fresh florals made me think of Bestiaire du Moyen Age from the Unicorns but a Shunga version. In the imp: dark heady orange blossom and a little bit of smooth wood. Smells a bit like Rub Rub Rub from Lush which I love. Wet: similar to in the imp but with a touch more wood (but still quite soft) it doesn't really scream cedar at me, just faintly outdoorsy. A little bit of jasmine mingles with the orange blossom. The blue musk is sweet and crisp and wafts about very breezy like. Dry is very similar to wet. The blue musk comes to the fore a bit more, making it a bit more fresh and a aquatic and just a touch salty. The heady blooms are gentle. The wood just supports. It is strong yet delicate. While conceptually it is very similar to Bestiaire they do not smell the same at all. Bestiaire is sitting in the grassy banks of a river in a blooming apple orchard at noon. Visiting the Sumida River is laying on a river bank at dusk smelling the rich perfumey breeze from a nearby garden. I love it!

    Emerald Lace

A beautiful grassy, juicy green lace. The rue and tobacco give a little warmth and depth. But overall very bright and springy. Smells like laying on sun-soaked grass with fruity blooms on the breeze.

    Alabaster Vulva

At first I might have argued that there was lotus in this, because it smelled like a soft, sweet bubblegum at first. But orris tends to be candy sweet on me and the butter must go further in that territory rather than dusty. However as this dries the bubblegum lets up and I am left with a silky vanilla with dark narcissus and bergamot. Surprisingly lovely.

    Caressing the Wild Rabbit

Starts off with mostly crisp white tea, but as it dries it gets sweeteer with the honey comb and a little more warmth. The vanilla orchid comes in as a soft, cool floral. Beautiful, and would probably need a bottle if it were a little stronger on me.

    Blossoms in Springtime

In the imp: sweet waxy lotus blossom, honey, and vanilla. Glorious. Wet: creamy golden floral, sweet and springy. Dry: I wonder if this has champaca in it? The beautiful creamy sweetness gets covered up by sharp powdery incense that I get with champaca.

    Twenty-One

Such a lovely fizzy gin scent, with a twist of lemon. Fun enough for a night out, but also refreshing enough for sweltering summer days.
