Red Musk, Sugared Amber, and Red Berries

***Editing YAY to add that when I reviewed this I was on the tail-end of recovering from a moderate case of Kraken (covid). I thought my sense of smell hadn't been affected, but I wore this again yesterday and it was STRONG delightful and bright red musk. Juicy, tart and wow this morning i'm still getting little whiffs from yesterday. I'm still not wild about how cloudy it looks, but really, how often to I hold my bottles up to the light and squint? almost never. Who cares lol. Anyhoo, this is so good and the sugar is the cotton candy kind and super yum. If you love the idea of floofy red musk sugar, grab this before its pulled forever. (My head was stuffed with evil below) What I was hoping for here didn't happen. I am obsessed with Sugar, Poppy Tar and Red Current, and was hoping this might be similar. This is an extremely close to the skin scent, I can barely make anything out besides a very faint musk. Along with this, my bottle is also very murky as mentioned above. The oil is separating and doesn't look like ANY other BPAL I have owned. It appears to have been possibly tainted with something that oil doesn't mix well with, like water? Not sure what to do with this one besides tucking it into the dark to see what grows from the murk.
  2. Are there any currently available BPAL scents that you would love a bottle of? I missed Moon When the Cherries Turn Black, and am open to anything new release. Is there anything you're eyeing from Paintbox Soapworks' winter update? Scrubs or the Streusel. I don't use wax melts or lotion and prefer other soap bars. Would you like anything from Cellar Door (they do soaps and candles)? No thank you. Unfortunately, am not a fan of their bar soap. Prefer hard milled soaps that don't melt down into soup.... Anything of interest from Luvmilk? (Milky Monday, their version of Black Friday, is on 11/7!) The Moon Milk - Milk Bath looks yummy. Any of the milk baths look interesting. Crocheted Granny shawl. Yes or No? Preferred colors? (this one is pressing, I would need to start soon) Yes, if I could use it like a hood and is dark like Yule Cat against the starry sky. Maybe more goth and less "granny" please. BPal wax melts? I have TKO and Red Velvet Cake, Would bundle up a few for you to try of one, or both if you like NO, please, I absolutely do not like wax melts. I used to have drawers full and they make me physically ill. I need a flame with my wax to burn away some of the fragrance. I LOVE incense, linen spray and candles however. Are you interested in boozy homemade fruitcake? If it can be glutenfree How about booze itself, specifically, moonshine whiskey infused with spices and fruits? Yes but I prefer boozy things on the sweet side Brown sugar shortbread? "Plain" buttery or flavored? Favorites include lavender and chocolate orange, but I could definitely do a holiday spice or peppermint batch or two. Yes, if see above. I can always give it to my husband if I can't have it. Interested in anything from Odins Daughter? What a beautiful website! This is new to me but the candles and the divination tools look lovely. And tacking on to this question for others in reference to Em, I make infused vodkas! The one I am most proud of right now is a spiced hibiscus liqueur. I make this as a jelly, too. As far as the Liqueur, We have been making an autumn Moscow Mule with it, and the other day I made a Mai Tai! Its yummy! Yes, absolutely would love this. If I can find the recipe, I want to make my grandmas Orange Slice Cake. Its a super yummy cake but a bit difficult to make as far as cutting up all the oranges. If you would like a mini cake IF I make it, lemme know! The ingredients are as follows: Yes, I think I can have this since no flour? dates orange slices candy coconut buttermilk pecans orange juice Wouldst thou like a microwaveable bowl cozy? Well, I have never owned a microwave??? and have never used one to hold a hot bowl, but might be a new novelty so I stop burning my tips. My favorite incense store is Good Earth Mercantile, any interest for an incense from them? Everything looks so good, this shop is new to me. Probably anything except the rose of Jericho. I already have several. Are you a cotton candy fan? Would anything from Chocolate Storybook interest you? NOM those look so YUMS. Probably anything like the pink vanilla, wedding cake, blue raspberry, or frosted donut Body Scrubs from CarolinaOrganicsSC are AHHHHMAZING! Any interest? The oatmeal milk and honey one is right up my bubbled alley House of MetalWorks has super cute and dainty gold-filled stacking rings in my price range! If this interests you, include ring size! No thank you. I've tried these thin, stackable type rings before and they get bent so easily. Several questionnaires mention joy in receiving homemade baked goods. What are your favorite holiday baked goods? Cookies, Cakes, Fudge? Other? I have big love for toffee, fudge and candied pecans. Related question: I'm super into this peanut butter cookie recipe that happens to be gluten free and can easily be vegan. I assume if you are allergic to nuts that will be very clear on your survey, but beyond that: Are you into peanut butter cookies? If yes, would you enjoy them with creamy or crunchy PB? Oh gosh, I completely forgot to mention this on my main questionnaire, but I cannot do anything with peanuts. They burn my stomach so very badly and make me feel sick. I'm probably allergic but haven't been officially tested. I sub them with cashews if that works for you. If you do not read this far I totally understand if I get peanuts. Will pass them along to someone else in the house. No biggie. I've had a dumpster fire hella previous week and couldn't even come back here. I am thinking of making flavored sugar. What are flavors you would NOT enjoy out the following: Lavender Rose Lemon Orange Vanilla Thyme Ginger Spice Would you like anything from Witch Baby Soap? (Make sure to check the Throwback Thursday section of the website; they bring back a few things every Thursday!) Witch Baby stuff is super cute. I would be happy with anything. Pickety witch has the yule offerings up, including Yule Cat pins (black or white) and ornaments. Which do you love most? I'd like a pin any colour IF YOU LIKE COFFEE --- Do you like any specific roast more than another? Light? Dark? Medium? Breakfast Blend? Please, no coffee, I can't do it. Haus of Gloi's Yule is up, fancy anything? Sorry, not a fan without Brit Teeturtle has some adorable designs and their t-shirts often go on sale. Any designs that appeal? Not really my style. Is anyone else here an Erin Morgenstern fan?? https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/711842/the-phantomwise-tarot-by-erin-morgenstern/ I haven't read her new one yet but the first one was pretty good. Anything from the Lunacy You are eyeballing? https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/product-tag/late-october-2022/?fbclid=IwAR3OzugxYK-rNtwgJBFwUfRSp_jneUcOmEgAfwRdgC_dlM0tRESwX244rqM Yes, I will always take my beloved BPAL in any shape or form. FYI I am old school BPAL collector since 2003.

    Haunt 2021

Fresh application brings a pile of freshly raked leaves that quickly dissipate. If you've never been able to wear a DL scent, this one is for you! It becomes a sweet, herbal scent afterward, ooooh, this is a floaty, elegant warm embrace. The smoky amber is luscious like the glowing resin of an ancient tree along earthen fire pits. If you're looking for the Snake Oil/Dorian, they are very subtle, becoming something completely different here. I could describe it as Snake Oil dancing in a rich, amber glow. This is beautiful, and i'm wishing for more than a decant.

    Constellation

Goth Queen is that you? I took the plunge on Constellation because of the comparisons with Black Amber Sugar Cane, which I liked a lot, but wasn't strong enough for me. Just out of the mail bottle sniff and upon application, i'm thinking of Goth Queen, maybe just a little richer and deeper. Oh yes, the clove is here but it's smooooth and sultry. After a few minutes, the amber rises up to the top. It's sweet, dark and sparkles like the night sky. I am really loving this! I rehomed my bottles of Goth Queen and BASC but keeping this one. My Goddess this is going to be exquisite with some aging. The Egyptian Amber is incredibly beautiful ahhhhhh. If you missed BASC or Goth Queen, get thee claws to the Haute Macabre before this shooting star leaves our galaxy.

    F#@K

A censored scent, reminiscent of sugar crust with a hint of cherry meringue. In the bottle, it smells just like opening one of those big Trader Joe's jars of cherries. I LOVE those cherries and F#@K does not disappoint. The sweetness EXPLODES up and outwards after application, and the throw makes my eyes roll back a little. After a few minutes, the strong, upfront cherry note settles down and the sugar crack vanilla comes through. I'm also getting kindof a boozy note. Finishing off with the money shot, a GORGEOUS warm sugar and vanilla finish, the cherry has moved into the background, giving it the tiniest bit of fruit. This is sugary, floaty cherry vanilla dream

    Cancer 2016

Cardinal water: moonlight dancing on the dark waters of a brooding, fertile river. This blend refines your intuition, sharpens your wit (perhaps too sharply?), and expands your emotional breadth. It is a scent of tenacity and eloquence, wry humor, and profound loyalty. Spring violets, white sandalwood, star jasmine, and cucumber with drops of lemon balm and mugwort. Blind Bottle Purchase from the lab. I'm a moon child Cancer and had to have it. IN THE BOTTLE: Water, cucumbers and unidentified flowers, but they "smell" bluish-light-purple. WET: Bitter floral. I'm not liking the wet. It reminds me of the water from a week old Tuberose vase. Pretty sure this is the Mugwort. Oh-no. DRY: After 15 minutes, the bitterness completely fades and Cancer turns into a breathtaking, watery floral. The blend of the floral with the cucumber squirt keeps it dewy with it's aquatic magic. I can also detect the smooth woodiness of the Sandalwood, giving it sweetness and depth. NOTES: While wearing this I am transported. Just now I was back in a bright, rocky northeastern shore. Walking along the crashing surf looking for shells. Starsign Cancer, represented by the Yin-Yang cannot exist without a balance of light and dark; goodness and sorrow. The harsh beginning of Beth's Cancer is a bitter blast of the beauty that is to come: after wearing this for a short time, it turns into the most beautiful, silver-blue jewel. I'm not sure if anyone but a water baby would understand the story this Starstruck fragrance tells, but it's definitely worth including in my collection-forever. It is a rare silver blossom floating in a crystal-blue-green sea. "Little Green", a song about a child born under the star sign Cancer always makes me cry a little when I hear it. "Just a little green Like the color when the spring is born There'll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow Just a little green Like the nights when the Northern lights perform There'll be icicles and birthday clothes And sometimes there'll be sorrow." Joni Mitchell - Little Green

    Sea Smoke

I could go there and also mention Irish Spring, wait I did. After a few minutes, it becomes much more subdued and I really don't get those vibes. Crisp, clean, refreshing, simple and classy, Sea Smoke could be a unisex, fresh out of the shower scent. It is a white floral with gentle citrus and grassy kelp notes. The combination gives it a calm, casual aura in the finish. This one isn't incredibly unique, but its so clean and inoffensive which makes it super easy to wear and enjoy. Definitely a "pick me up" type scent, perfect for summer days when you desire an invigorating scent. I do get a subtle hint of steam or sea spray, giving the whole this a futurist expression of grassy cleanliness.

    Sugar Plum Snake Oil

Pink pretty Snake Oil all dressed up in heels and frills. She's got a busy night stripping off veils for dollar bills. With a purse full of sugar She shakes her tail with a fervor Making everyone swoon in the plum musk thrills. Bordello and Snake Oil had a fairy baby

    Spiced Cherry Bourbon

Makes my mouth water, literally. Huge, plump squirting cherries. The cherry bomb of my dreams. I LOVE the loud opening happening here. The cinnamon is soft and wooded. It's so rich. Like the others, after several minutes of wear, the cherry has been eaten, and all i'm left with is the stem i've been trying to knot with my tongue for the past 30 minutes. Something is also giving me cherry chamoy vibes which isn't a bad thing. I adore the gentle, sweetly spiced finish, and am upgrading to a bottle before the yules go poof for the experience alone.

    Cerise Fog

Light, bright powdery berries. The softness of it does suggest a "fog", a certain airy aspect. It does trigger a scent memory for me unfortunately. Take a bottle of baby aspirin, crush them all up and take a whiff of the floating powder. Still a fun scent I could see wearing to brighten a dreary day.

    Gingerbread Campfire

I do get a tiny bit of sweetness my mind could push and imagine loafy gingerbread, but its got a slather of burned crispy bits on it, charred with a slab of drippy meat on top. Just can't turn off that association (that's my brain's fault) and i'm also getting a tiny bit of medicinal smell, so this is a hard slay nay. Its sweetly gorgeous if you're a collector of woodsmoke.

Sugar, Poppy Tar, and Red Currant

Yes Yes YES red POISON! Mysterious, hypnotic and enchanting, this is an adult fruity floral with a dark Goth feel. ziggystardust13 was so lovely and passed along her decant to me. I wonder if she heard me scream with delight upon first sniff Immediate bottle upgrade for me too btw. The sugar is delicate and light. Very much like nectar or white spun sugar i'd say, not heavy like some other sugared blends. The red current blends perfectly with the intoxicating opium, with a cocktail-like kiss. This is some supersexy fruit. Refined and wearable. I could slather this every day and never tire of it. Excellent throw and longevity, I can see this being extremely popular and sought after. Simply delicious, I have a new day time obsession to go along with my nighttime Sopor.

Chibi Skull With Last Will and Testament

When I first tried this, i'd forgotten the associations with BB and RR. Immediately thought of some berry cereal I used to snarf as a kid, drowning in skim milk--a chalky pink mess. Seriously couldn't kick the breakfast memories, reading the cereal box over and over, dumping it out early looking for a prize. Milk burps. Saw someone post about the patchouli reference and tried the bone chibi once more. The patch definitely blossomed while I picked up that lovely, sugared patch. I'm torn on this one, but hanging onto it to see if the fave scent memories of the beloved Banshee wins me over.

    Sugar Cookies with Extra Sugar

Buttery Sugar Cookie with a huge, syrupy dollop of brown, dark sugar. Lots of buttery warmth up-front, and the drydown for me is almost all thick, brown sugar. Very much like Sugar Skull without the fruits, slathered on a buttered cookie. Its a fun scent, but I also amp butter and am wishing for more lemony vanilla or spice. Could be gorgeous as a layering scent if you want an extra hit of dark sugary syrup.

    Laurel Hill

Mountain laurel petals limned in pale pink settling among boughs of hemlock, soft mosses, and dark lichens. This is a floral scent overall, but one that entwines itself in a grey, moss covered cemetery after a storm. I get the velvety moss, earthy lichens, something floral and illuminating hemlock. Just after application, it is extraordinarily fragrant. A blossom that is lovely to look at, but if you sink your nose deeply into it, you might get light headed and woozy. It settles down quickly and I am enveloped in delicious bitterness. The separate notes entangling themselves into a velvet, dry floral mixed with an equal measure of swampy moss. Soft plodding through a crumbling cemetery of heavy, leaning branches, with forgotten flowers left behind on muddy, gravestones black from mold and rain. Darkly atmospheric, elegant yet moody, I can't help but think of torn and tattered lace dresses, wilted flower crowns, and dreams of marbled gloom outlined with silvered-pink edges.

    Magnolia scent?

The Bride is my favorite by far

    My Wise Beauty

A clean, brisk beginning, I'm also getting a citrus twist here. The sandalwood grounds and wafts about with an incense vibe, while the amber gives the whole thing a feminine, perfumed edge. Wonderfully warm and sweet, I could see this as being very grounding and scent calming on those hectic days. I prefer my amber to be deeper and stickier, i'm also getting a chewable vitamin c note that hopefully fades or ages out. Will stash and try this again in a week or two.

    The Joy of Fatherhood

Yep, gummy yummy squishy bears all over me. I'd also like a bit of creamy vanilla, but its tons of fun and will be passing along my decant to a little one I know. Pretty sure she will love it and hopefully not lick it.

    Cerberus’ish

So much butter in the buttercream and strangely "nutty"? I've been looking for the perfect chai scent, but this is almost butterscotch on me, morphing into maple syrup cakes. Where's the chai spice or even the wood? It does remind me a teeny bit of my beloved "The Storyteller" with a dollop of rich cream, but pushed way into foodie territory. I can see alot of people loving this. Oh so cozy and cuddly, Cerberus'ish would be beautiful wafting up from a warm coat against skin in winter, making you hungry dream of creamy hot drinks and puddings. The "ish" in my delish

    Philopannyx

Wow! Beautiful! this is addicting, can't stop smelling myself. I can see this becoming a signature sent for many BPAListas. Hauntingly gothic, sexy and feathery feminine, the opening is elegant and resinous. Once it settles, the notes dance together so magically, i'm seriously loving the wafts of champa incense swirling. I'm getting classic vibes from this, but its never powdery or overpowering. Perfect for nighttime romps of all kinds, date night, wanderings or drippy, black candle burning. Slather this to give yourself those exotic queenie priestess vibes, romantic and timeless like a midnight eclipse. So far i've declined a bottle upgrade. While I do admire its vampy, seductive elegant notes, panny is a little TOO heady for me. I will definitely keep sampling my decant before the lil's go away, just.in.case.

    Sopor

Ok, i'm a ghost. Going to say it but this is so much like The Serpentine. If you loved that one, missed that one or simply adore epic cozy hugged blends, you need dis. NOW! Do not hesitate because it will be gone in a flash POOF~

    Eleutheria

This is head clearing. Bottle sniff is minty and cool, like all the cobwebs inside my head were swept away with a broom. I haven't used this purposefully yet, but look forward to seeing my way through. Will return and add more as I get to know it.

    Drow Yoga Instructor

I really don't like being first, but yah, okay Reminds me of Lush Plum Rain at the start, at least the memory of Plum Rain cause I used up my body wash a couple years ago. Maybe its just the idea of it, dark purple and Ka-BLAM! up front. It's a fresh fruity plum with a slight tart tang. Big fruit rolling in straight out of the bottle. The lavender becomes more apparent after a few minutes, and its the sweet kind, not medicinal. This is a deep, dark lavender if that makes sense. Hence the name "indigo", like the deepest darkest lavender night sky. OM~ So here's the buildup.....once this gets on the skin and starts to warm up, it literally blossoms. The best part IS the dry-down. This is seriously divine smoky sandalwood. It's like sticking your nose in an empty wooden cigar box. Just a little chewy, rich golden smoke with a plump purple floaty floral sweetness. I LOVE DYI once its warmed up on the skin and the sandalwood deepens. I can see this being cuddly enough for bedtime, YES for yoga practice, and being a very sensual goddess experience wafting around you during downward dog. Namaste~

    Leave Her, Jonny

Jumping in the water here. Can I mention that I love this series so much! Wasn't sure any of the scents would work for me, so I pretty much took a chance with this one and i'm glad I did. It's fabulous, leans a little bit on the masculine side, yet refined and elegant. The rum is beautifully balanced and not overpowering the wood notes. Soft yet strong, velvety and delicious, the patchouli is sweet and intoxicating, just luscious. I will cherish this little bottle and the way it makes me feel like a sexy, girl pirate ready to take on the peg leg blokes.
