Hoo! This is all kinds of weird. The oil is very dark, which surprised me. In the imp, it smells tart, sharp, and slightly soapy. I definitely get an aquatic vibe, but it's different from the one I usually get. It's dark and the anise makes my nose tickle. It's reminding me of a murky Robotic Scarab. It starts sweetening up a bit after a few minutes on my skin. It seems less aquatic and more resinous now. I still get an anise nose tingle. I'm not sure if I love it or not, but I'm glad I tried it. Very interesting. If you like Robotic Scarab or Mary Shelley, you might check this one out. If you are looking for a light, juicy pear scent, this one might disappoint.

Razors in a Doll's House Hair Gloss

I got a decant of this in the hopes it would be compatible with Die Begierde, which I am madly in love with. I think it is indeed a good match and would also work well with Hope, with a scent that falls somewhere in between the two. The scent lacks the depth of Die Begierde, but shares it's luscious, sweet, and creamy rose. There is a hint of something softly synthetic lurking in the background. It reads less to me as metal and more as aerosol. The rose teeters on the brink of syrup, but then returns to sweet creaminess. This is very nice. There are so many I want from this release though, I'm not sure if it will make my short list. Must squirt more up my nose and think on it.

    Mr. Czernobog

This is reeeeeally different from what I was expecting. It's not unpleasant, just... not what I wanted. I was thinking this would be dark, sticky, resinous and leathery. This is pale, clean and sweet on me. Very strange. In the imp I get a sort of rusty tang, citrus sweetness, and high pitched dirt smell. It's very odd. On, this immediately becomes light and sweet though. If there's incense or vetiver, it's waaaaaaay in the back. Honestly, I swear I'm getting a cream sickle vibe. Then sort of like ... an herbaly sweetness you might get in a light IPA? Leather wears well on me, but tends to stay light on my skin. I'm getting no leather from this. It's all cream sickle beer. O_O No idea.

La Roue de Malheur Hair Gloss

Oh dear. This was a late addition to my list, and I'm thinking I should have skipped it. LOTS of DARK oudh is what I'm getting smacked with, probably with some very dark patch, and what smells to me like stale cigarette smoke. Oudh can be hit or miss for me, but I was really hoping red musk, champaca, and pomegranate would be the main players. This is heavy, bitter, and masculine on me. I AM trying it pretty much strait from the mailbox though, so maybe it will calm the heck down in a few days? Anywho, NOT for me. Will update if there are any great changes with age.

    Blacklight-Reactive Zombie Hand

Just got this fresh from the mail, and my patience times 1 million is still zero, so here are my first impressions. Strait out of the bottle, it's minty, eucalyptusy, cool, and sweet, but there's something woody and a little dark at it's base. I"m guessing the oud and black currant. I think the oil might be light blue as well. I'll have to experiment with that more later. Once I put this on my skin, the oud and black currant fade into the background, and the tea comes out to play. It's nicely balanced with the minty coolness rather than being tea dominant. It lasts about 2 hours on my skin and gradually turns into a light, sweet, mintiness with a titch of darkness from the black currant. The eucalyptus in this is low key and smooth, and doesn't come off to me as medicinal like it sometimes can. BLRZH actually reminds me of Night's Bridge and Woods in Winter. Just kind of a sweet coolness they share. If you are really fond of the snow note and/or mint, you might want to check this out.

    Le Rideau Cramoisi

This doesn't really smell headshoppy to me. Yeah, I definitely get champaca, but with it I get a lot of leather, musk, and clove. Clove often smells metallic to me, and sweat often smells metallic to me, hense I get sort of a musky, leathery, clean but sweaty sort of smell. It's animalic and interesting, but I'm not sure if I like it. I think I get how ramblingrambler got French from this. Sort of dirty but sophisticated and something old world about it. I could see how it could be very sexy, (possibly on a man) but my verdict is still out. I shall have to see if this grows on me with wear.

A Source of Sexual Knowledge to Individuals and Couples

This is very pretty. I wasn't sure when I first got it, but it's smoothed into something nice, refreshing, and relaxing. It's definitely a tea blend, but it doesn't have the lemony edge I usually smell. The wasabi actually comes across as minty to my nose and slightly camphorous. The perfume is not too sweet, cool on my skin, and lovely for summer. It makes me think of sipping an icy drink with a slight bite of bitters or gin. Something herbal. I think this might be my favorite of the tea blends Lupers this year. Definitely different.

Yay! I hope they work out beautifully for you.

    Enthusiastic Afternoon Liaison

Tested this without looking at the notes first. Softly woody and herbal to my nose, a tad astringent, with light but recognizable lotus. It blends as it wears and I get more of a soft, dry lotus with champaca. It actually reminds me of Poor Monkey. Soft, sweet, feminine, snuggly incense sort of blend. Pretty, but doesn't knock my socks off. ETA: I kept my partial and have grown more fond of this over the years. The scent is richer, though it's still a subdued incense blend. It's almost mossy or fuzzy in a way I'd expect from amber. The cypress is more recognizable to me (Whether I'm just more familiar with it, or the note is stronger, I'm not sure.) and it comes across as a dark blue-green. The champaca is soft, smooth, and blends with the cypress in an unusual and lovely way, and the lotus adds a thread of sugary sweetness, making this very feminine, and keeping it from being too foresty. If you like the idea of a feminine cypress and incense combo, this might be worth seeking out. Over my years of BPALing, I don't think I've ever come across something very similar. (Maybe Poor Monkey, in a forest, without his fruit. )

If you like Anesthesia, I would recommend TKO or Envy. TKO is very popular and has lavender notes with sort of a vanilla sugar cookie vibe. I only use it as a sleep blend (it works!) but a lot of people really like it for normal use. Envy is also a very nice, calming, herbal lavender. You seem to like beeswax and florals. What about The Witch Queen from Stardust? Wild plum, red musk, tuberose, calla lily, heliotrope, pimento, ylang ylang and beeswax beneath a dark haze of sinister purple-hued incense smoke. For Zombi, I actually really love In Deep Earth, which is rose geranium and earthy notes. To my nose, Zombi is a more perfumey rose, while IDE smells more like a rose garden trampled down by a heavy storm. You might also like Penny Dreadful, which is a woman's perfume over earthy/soil notes. Good luck! P.S. You might consider Rakshasa. Notes listed are rose, sandalwood, and patchouli (which is not very strong). I swear it smells like it's got some orange in there too though. If you are a sandalwood fan, you might give it a go.

    Numerikawa No Bobo-Dako Bath Oil

Noticed BPTP had this one up on their Etsy, and thought I'd finally review it. Right now, I'm just using it as a body oil and it's got a nice, light feel and a skin scent sort of throw. It's hard to describe the fragrance b/c it doesn't really smell like anything else to me. It's pretty and soft, with a fresh water vibe from the cucumber. The almond blossom and mimosa add sweetness, but it's very understated and demure. I think the black currant is probably tempering what could the syrupy quality almond and mimosa often have. It adds just the barest hint of warmth. This fragrance brings to my mind a pale, pretty asian lady, sitting by a pond, wearing no makeup and a simple white kimono, beautiful in her tranquil, gentle simplicity. P.S. Wanted to add, after reading the above reviews, I think I do like it better on my skin than in the bath, so the idea it needs some warmth to come into it's own is probably apt. It's smells so cool that it's hard to think of pouring it into a steamy bath, but AFTER a steamy bath would be lovely.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

Hmmm... so I actually was not a fan of All in the Golden Afternoon, nor do I know anything else exactly like it, but you might try Shango, which has got the pineapple thing going on. You might also try Ogun, which has a fresh fruit with tobacco thing. They are sort of in the same wheel house, but still pretty different. Definitely got some fizzy fruitiness though! Also, you might try Drink Me. I haven't smelled that one, but people have described it as having pineapple and a buttery/caramel smell, which is something I got from AITGA. Also, being in the same line, they might have some similar notes. Sorry. That one was an odd ducky. :/

    I've never found a scent I liked!

Hiya Nilbog! I love the idea of foodie scents, but they rarely get along with my chemistry. That said, I've had great luck with Bliss, Dana O'Shea, Dragon's Milk, Stimulating Sassafras Strengthen, and Eat Me, which I think have all been mentioned. I own Mouse Circus, which smells like kettle corn on me. It is a teensy bit fake on me, but that's my chemistry, and it's still a delight to wear when I'm in the mood. I also wanted to throw out - Poor Monkey - a Yule LE, but probably not too hard to find. It's like a sweet, syrupy dessert with a snuggly incense. It's so soft and cuddly, it hard to imagine anyone finding it offensive. Yemaya and Titania. These aren't baked good scents, but both are very sweet, fresh, fruity fragrances with soft floral undertones. Yemaya especially impressed me b/c I usually can't stand cucumber/melon scents, but Yemaya just takes things to a whole new level. They both have a mouth watering quality. Good hunting!

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?

Ahahahah! Dragon Tears. So angsty. That sounds perfect! I had forgotten about Iroh! He seems like his scent should have a calm, contemplative feel. What about Lovers in the Tea House? It's got a nice sake note too, which seems appropriate.

    Red

I am not sure how this imp I'm testing is, so take my review with a grain of salt. Red smells fizzy and tart to me. Not real sweet. Kind of a dry champagne sort of vibe. There's definitely a musky cranberry thing going on, but it smells a bit - "off" to me. It could just be doing weird things with my chemistry, but I'd definitely like to compare it to a fresh sample. As it stands, not my thing.

    TKO

Soooo... A cautionary tale -. I made the mistake of putting TKO on after drinking too much and then went to bed. I woke up with a hangover, and it took me a long while before I could stand to smell this again. Even without that experiencethough, I prefer Anesthesia or Baku for sleep blends. They are similar, but more purely herbal. There's a foody thing going on in TKO that clashes with a strong menthol note on me that's too strange to wear as a perfume. It's kinda like sugar cookies dipped in Mentholatum. That said, it does help relax me and my husband loves it. In fact, he stole my bottle. O_O

    Squirting Boutonniere

Hot pink is right! The rose is very pink and very perfumey. As this dries down the water lily comes out, but it smells soapy in the way lily of the valley often does on me. Not a gentle, watery aquatic like I was hoping for. It would be pretty for a candle or something though.

    Megaera

Orris, black amber, bergamot, plum and grapefruit. Pixie Sticks! For grown ups. The plum and grapefruit give this a fruity pop, but the sweet, powdery orris cuts the citrus, softening it and giving me that sugary candy vibe. After 10 minutes or so, the amber emerges, lending a bit of warmth and depth. This actually reminds me a lot of Bordello, except that was too sticky sweet for me, and just went into toddler territory. This is playful and gives me the impression of rosy pink and orange hues, but it's still adult enough I can consider it sexy. Rather short lived on me though, alas, but I'll enjoy my imp.

Dark Chocolate, Red Pepper Flake, and Dried Red Fruits

Wow. I can't believe this one doesn't have more reviews. I got a similar experience as zankoku_zen. Dark chocolate at first, but the red pepper becomes prominent quickly, and the red fruits kick in. They smell tart and sort of chewy. The overall effect reminds me of those Cadbury Fruit & Nut Bars or Raisinets. The chocolate is more a binder for the other ingredients than a center piece. If you are a fan of red pepper though, this might be one to try. It definitely makes an appearance in the blend.

    Mata Hari

Starts out as a nutty, sweet coffee. I'm guessing that's from the blend of vanilla, tonka, amd coffee. The rose appears on my skin pretty quickly. It's a perfumey rose with a hint of fruitiness, perhaps from the fig. This dries down into a dusky, rose/jasmine floral. It's not my jam, but it's different enough that if you like oriental florals, it's worth a try.

Snake oil and 3rd charm belong in the same family to my nose. You might also like Vixen (GC), Mme. Moriarty, Crowley, Smut, or Womb Furie. For Zombi, check out Penny Dreadful or Nosferatu (GC). They've both got the dirt thing going on, and since you like Wanda, you might like the wine in Nosferatu. For Wanda, I'd check out Obsidian Widow and Whip. Also, if you want a similar feel but different notes, you might try Kali. All are GC. Mouse Circus - gourmands aren't usually my thing, but I thought SN Popcorn Garland had a similar popcorn thing going on with sparkly pine tree, and I thought it was adorable. Also, I think some of the Midway scents have been compared to MC.

Diligent Instruction for the Bridal Night

This is very pretty in the bottle. Sweet, creamy strawberries. This one cements the idea that strawberry doesn't work for me though. When I tested this, it immediately went salty. Eventually, it morphed back to something pleasant, but not great, and upon slathering, something I'm prone to with a light, sweet scent like this, it edged into plastic territory. This strikes me as Instruction Manual's younger and less naughty sister.

    The Deluge of Blood

Imp: Dragon's blood and pepper, with something dark and resinous lingering in the background. Reminds me of Starstruck Aries, but much murkier. Skin: This stays dark and brooding, but the notes balance out more. I'm still getting lots of spice. Something smells like clove. This really does give off an impression of sweltering heat. It's ominous, and I can well imagine a sky covered in blood red storm clouds or thick, sticky waves of blood from this. The resins give it a nice rounded sweetness too though. Overall, this is a thick, dark, spice and resin blend. I'm really enjoying that it doesn't have cinnamon though since that note usually takes over on me and is usually included in these kinds of blends. It think this would work nicely on a man. Those with sensitive skin might beware though. I am getting a bit of skin tingle, and I'm not testing on a delicate area. ETA: I don't know why I bothered with a review. What Little Bird said. Ditto ditto. This has become the go to RPG scent for my redheaded, black dragon-scale armor wearing knight. For your viewing pleasure

    The Sweat of the Rime-Giants

Imp: Biting, astringent herbs in the imp. There's a camphorish quality that I'm guessing is from the mugwort. Skin: This is QUITE mugworty. I recognize it now from Startstruck Cancer. A musky sweetness starts to emerge, then turns into a nice, light honey. This isn't the dark, rich honey I usually love, it's more the light, sweet kind that goes a little powdery on me. It's nice though and balances out the bitey mugwort. Dry Down; Sure enough, this goes from a honeyed herbal tea smell, to a powdery, sweet herb skin scent sort of thing. I like it, and it's different. It reminds me a little of Door.
