    In Winter in My Room

I bought this last year after I tried a friend's decant of it and feel in love with the sparkling citrus (that grapefruit/yuzu combo) that it opened with. Recently it's come back in my regular wear rotation, so I wanted to share with others - like some of the reviewers of the older versions of this scent have noted, as this scent ages the citrus notes fade. Now it's just a heavily floral scent which no shred of the citrus that made me buy it in the first place. It's not an unpleasant floral, but very heavy and to my mind a little old fashioned smelling (I think that must be the tuberose coming out strongly). There is a "coolness" to the florals that I can't quite pin down, but it definitely is a winter scent in my mind. Rather than the pink worm of the poem, the image that comes to me when I wear this is heavy white flowers covered in snow.

    Aphrodesia

I applied some of this recently when I went to hang out with a bunch of my (very platonic) guy friends, just to see if there would be any reaction. I don't think that oil works in a way that affects others' perceptions of you, because they were the same as usual, but I definitely found myself to be a bit more on the flirtatious side. Perhaps I'll try it again when I'm needing a boost and am around some more receptive targets, haha.

    Shadows and Reflections

I got a decant of this months ago and set it aside. I just put some on and had to double check it was the same scent. It smells very vintage and powdery - certainly accurate for the time period, but not what I remember smelling the last time I opened this bottle ... It reminds me very strongly of Bourbon French's "Voodoo Love", if anyone has happened to every stumble across it.

    Crimson

Whew! She was not kidding with that bitter clove! Wet I smell a high and bright spiciness from the bitter cloves and saffron, with the smoky oudh and red sandalwood hovering in the background. I like spice and musk, but I prefer a little sweetness thrown in to balance it out. -As it's drying down, the cloves and saffron one-two punch are receeding a bit, and I'm getting the smoothness of the musk and sandalwood combo. I wish I got that sweetness everyone else was talking about. This one is not my cup of tea.

    Luna Negra: Ted's Creation

^It did come to a better home - mine! When I was a newbie on the forum I was gifted some imps and a few almost empty LE bottles from a veteran forum member on the PIF board. One of those bottles was Luna Negra. I remember messaging her telling her that I wasn't sure if I was happy or sad that she had included it, since I had immediately fallen in love and it was a Limited Edition. On getting my hands on this (full!) bottle, it's exactly how I remember - sweet, dark, musky and delicious. I'm so glad I get to finally enjoy wearing it!

    A Countenance Forboding Evil

As other reviewers have noted, this scent is predominately patchouli and vetiver on me. If I had to pick adjectives it would be smoky, earthy, spicy, and dark. I was really hoping to get a lot more of the blood orange, but neither it nor the ylang ylang really make an appearance. I don't smell anything sweet at all. I would say that this is definitely a more masculine scent. I don't think I would wear this on my own, but as I don't care for overly sweet scents I think it would work as a nice base to cut through something overly sweet. I just tried putting a swipe of "Imp" (white peach, amber, golden musk and patchouli) on top, and the spicy and smokiness adds a nice layer of complexity. I don't think I'll buy any more of this scent in the future though.

    Mare Vaporum

I agree very strongly with the three previous reviewers (especially LiberAmoris) that have noted that this is a softer jasmine scent. THIS is the jasmine scent I've been looking for. After trying a variety of the lab's other GC scents with jasmine, I had given up on finding one that I liked. I had written it off as a note I liked in theory rather than practice - it inevitably always ended up overpowering the other notes, and being a bit too overwhelming (Mata Hari, I'm looking at you). While this is unquestionably a jasmine scent (it's definitely the main note), this is the softer, friendlier jasmine that I've been dreaming of. The scent stays rather close to the skin and doesn't have much throw. It fades a bit after staying on, but the light jasmine scent lingers for a while. The sandalwood and amber gives it a warmth and takes away some of the overwhelming floral punch to the nose I get with other strong jasmine scents. My friend mentioned that it smelled "smoky" to her (without reading the notes), but I don't actually smell smoke or smoke notes (which I quite enjoy in other scents like Sarah), so YMMV on that. All in all, I'm glad I went for this lunacy and gave jasmine one last chance.

    Black Moths

I was so sad about this scent! Based on the notes, I should love it (it shares many with Mme. Moriarty, one of my absolute favorite scents). Plum, blackcurrant, patchouli? I'm in! I'm not sure exactly what I smell when I wear it, but if I had to pick two adjectives it would be Spicy and Smoky. Overwhelming spicy. I don't get fruit or much sweetness. This is a definite no for me.

    The Witch and the Mandrake

A soft, sweet, skin musk scent that doesn't project very much. I agree with the first reviewer that this scent is like a warm fuzzy blanket. I mostly get the coconut, with warmth from the the leather and sandalwood. Other than the coconut, no scent really announces itself very loudly. Soft, warm, and wonderful. This purchase was kind of on a whim among my Weenie buys (definitely not the one I was the most excited to smell), but I think it's my favorite out of all of them

    Sarah, the Mother Bear

I ordered this somewhat on impulse. I love leather/tobacco scents, and the concept of the scent is really appealing. I was definitely not disappointed. It starts out very smokey, with the sage and gunsmoke notes, but dries down to warm leather and tonka. As a previous reviewer commented, this scent stays really close to the skin. There's not a lot of throw, and the scent unfortunately fades after a few hours. But, while it's there, it's quite lovely.

    Midnight on the Midway (2015)

This was definitely mostly soapy/floral on me, which dried down to a soft floral. Although I didn't get any of the musk, incense, or sugar (*sob*), it smelled totally different on a friend of mine. She had the floral, but on the dry down the sugar came out in a fantastic way - it smelled almost like caramelized sugar. So, your mileage may vary on this one. sigh /edit/ Ok, one month later this is definitely starting to settle a bit. The soapy/dryer sheet smell (based on other comments, probably the ozone?) has died a bit and now it starts out as that soft floral, with a dry down of the musk and sugar. The dry down is fantastic now. THIS is what I was hoping for with the blue must and sugared incense. I wore some recently and when I smelled my wrist after it dried down I had to do a double take (double smell??). I couldn't believe it was the same scent. I can't wait to see how this one continues to age. I have high hopes.

    Desire

Reading everyone else's reviews, I wish I could smell what you're smelling! I barely got the apple or vanilla. They're more like hints. For me, this is a very rich, dark, and spicy scent. A little too spicy, actually. That's all it was for me. I had to scrub it off, actually, because it was making me sneeze. Perhaps the combination of the black patchouli and teak?

    Beachy, Tropical Scents

Obatala seems very evocative of Hawaii to me Obatala’s ofrenda is soft, white and pure: milk, coconut meat, shea butter and cool, refreshing water. edit - Just reread and noticed your request for specific notes..oops In that case, this doesn't actually match up with what you're looking for, but it does remind me of beautiful days on the beach.
  14. So, I'm fairly new to BPAL, but I'm working on expanding my collection. My first BPAL scent was "Ode on Melancholy" (an imp was included as an extra as part of a fragrance swap on a different site), and I absolutely fell in love with it. Between ordering from the site and from the forum I've slowly started to amass my own collection of imps Recently, I tried Libertine and it smells lovely on me, but it seems a bit familiar. Am I crazy? Does anyone else think Libertine and Ode on Melancholy smell similar? If not, what note(s) is being amped by my skin that both of them share? Ode on Melancholy: Lavender and wisteria, heart-wrenching pale rose, desolate white sandalwood and thin, tear-streaked white musk. Libertine: Rosewood and chamomile with bergamot, violet, red sandalwood, primrose and Arabian musk. So we have "pale rose" (the website tag is just rose, but it is definitely not the full normal rose note) vs. primrose, white sandalwood vs. red sandalwood, and white musk vs. Arabian musk. Perhaps it's the combo of all three in each?

From reading the other reviews it seems that this scent varies a lot based on body chemistry. Unfortunately for me, my chemistry does not seem to like this combination. I'm not sure what it is that I'm smelling exactly (based on other comments, perhaps a combination of the frankincense and carnation), but it smells very sharp, bitter, and medicinal on my skin. If I focus hard I can smell some florals in the background, but I don't think I would like to wait to see if they come out in a few hours. Definitely not for me .
