    Hearth

This one is super strong... I could smell the open bottle several feet away, and it's COLD in my house! Sadly, on both testers it turned to something resembling a slightly sickly molasses.

    Egg Nog

I, too, get eggnog in the bottle and play-doh on my skin. Weird. I know other people have had that happen with other blends, but that's the first time it's happened to me! I got a 2nd opinion, too, and the first word was "play-doh!" So it's not a hallucination. Will try once more, but... weird!

    Scarecrow

To some extent I think Scarecrow nails the description. Or vice-versa. On me, however, I'm getting a strange note that my brain is identifying as acetone. Hmmm. I also get some pine. Double hmmm! There does seem to be some smoke there, as well. Chemistry notwithstanding, this isn't me, as I try to be at least a BIT feminine, and to me this is all "guy." I'll have to try it on one sometime!

    Blood Kiss

Oh, this ALMOST worked for me, almost... I am in agreement that this is reminiscent of Formula 54, which I love. Fortunately I have plenty of it, because Blood Kiss is not a replacement. It wants to be... it's clove-y and sexy and lovely. Except for the vetiver. Vetiver just does not work on me, and up until now I didn't really care... now I wish it did.
  5. Blood Kiss reminds me of F54, IF you can deal with the vetiver.

    Black Pearl

I am really glad I have an imp of Florentine Iris coming, so I can try to figure out this scent...! I do get coconut and something else. Nothing I really identify as hazelnut or musk; I don't particularly like either one, so this is fine. Black Pearl is really lovely. It IS round, as others have scent; sweet without being !! SWEET !!; definitely sexy. It doesn't seem to change much as the day passes. Unlike others, I'm not getting the impression that it's particularly waft-y. But I can smell it hours later close on my skin, and I love it.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I think diabolique got into the absinthe again. Tart, maybe Medea? On me it dries to be quite wine-y, but... <shrug> I'll let you know how Queen of Diamonds goes, too.
  8. Well... the "like better" is a very hard question. Everyone is different. But you won't have another chance at Rose Red, at least not until late '05. So I'd vote for gambling on that.

    Shattered

I got a hint of grapefuit and champagne at first, which I think would be really winning, even for a non-citrus person (that would be me). But then the lotus comes through, with the mint underneath, and that's not so good. Lotus just doesn't work on me, and lotus and mint don't (to me) work together. Wish I got the grapefuit-champage combo...!

    Wildfire

My beloved. Sometimes Wildfire reminds me of Othello, my, uh, OTHER beloved. (Ooops.) That would be the rose, but it's a dark, sexy, heady rose, not the lighter greener rose of many of the other rose blends. Sometimes Wildfire reminds me of Red Moon -- that's the dragon's blood. Mostly it is just gorgeous. It's sweeter than Othello, thanks to the dragon's blood; red and round and with a nice kick underneath. As usual, I'm pretty lousy at description, but I had to put my 2 cents in for the OH MY GOD GET THIS crowd.

    Snow White

There's very little I can add to this that hasn't already been said. Actually there's a lot less, as I truly cannot even begin to describe the scent. I kind of want to say there's some coconut in it, but it's really more how coconut FEELS than how it SMELLS, if that makes any sense at all. I also get a hint of Snowcake (Lush soap, for those not in the know) which suggests some similarilty to Dana O'Shee... almond maybe? AND I also stuck it under someone's nose and heard "hmmm... apple?" Which I don't get, but considering that it's SNOW WHITE it would certainly make sense! Lovely, just lovely.
  12. If you like rose, you might consider Othello. It has the same feel as Old Morocco to me... kind of the same "base," I guess.
  13. Queen Gertrude and Zombi are the violet and rose version of each other, to my nose. They both have the same green flavor to my nose, with violet/rose on top.
  14. OTHELLO!! Or Ouija, considering the season... it's not real heavy on me, but quite dark and rich on a friend on mine.

    Zombi

Like others, I was a little afraid of Zombi. It would not have been on my list but for the reviews, and even then I couldn't quite commit -- when swapping with the lovely tart, I told her to choose one for me (Zombi vs Wolf's Heart) because I couldn't decide. I am SO glad she chose this one. Zombi is a very green rose. But not green in a boring, watery way, like Lucy's Kiss. My other favorite rose is Othello, but Othello is a little much for summer days in the office... Zombi is perfect. I don't get a sad or mournful or earthy sense from it at all. Really, I am terrible with notes and descriptions; all I can really say is I LOVE THIS! Also, althought the notes are different, I'd call Zombi the rose version of Queen Gertrude.

    Queen Gertrude

I love Queen Gertrude. I actually did a side-by-side comparison of QG and The Raven: violet vs violet. Whereas The Raven is a purple violet, QG is a GREEN violet... it is very clean and light and fresh. As others have said, it doesn't seem to change much on the drydown. Althought the notes are different, I'd call QG the violet version of Zombi.
  17. So funny you would say that. Bon Vivant, on ME, smells like the smell that comes out of my lingerie chest (which is actually my Lush chest) whenever I open it. I think it's mostly Fever/Hollywood with some other stuff thrown in to make it less icky (Hollywood is WAY too strong for me) and more interesting.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Dude. Use FileMaker. I've got my little database and it allows me to search on all the different notes, so (for example) I can screen out the loathesome vetiver...

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

If anyone uses Filemaker, I have a database that includes pretty much everything, as far as I know (altho I haven't added single notes). It includes checkboxes for the majority of the notes, so you can search on whatever notes or combos you desire. Let me know if you want it.
