    Bien Loin D'Ici

Aged imp, bought a few years ago. Smelt like jasmine at first, I was reluctant to put it on because I hate jasmine. Went ahead and the jasmine did die down, but someone a few pages back mentioned lily and I think they may be right as I recognise it from the Ichabod Crane blend, I think it's lily with a bit of jasmine. They blend together pretty well. Top notes have gone now and it smells like chalk dust with flowers in the background, I almost expect to cough and splutter as I breathe it in. A dusty deep floral on me. I was very surprised to read caramel in the description, there is definitely no sweetness or creaminess here. Would not buy again as heavy florals aren't for me.

    Obatala

The imp I'm using is 1.25 years old. This isn't sweet at all like coconut scents usually are, instead it's very warm and a bit green. Neither foody nor suntan lotiony. Unfortunately there is a plasticky whiff about it, it seems to be the same note I got in B Never's 1000 Kisses perfume. Reminds me of cheap green plastic garden furniture. The plastic is fading as time goes on and it's becoming sweeter and more buttery but the scent in general is fading fast on my skin. It's a real shame about the plastic note, otherwise this would be a great winter coconut scent, warm and cosy.

    Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener

Like everyone else has said, it smells like root beer. I tried root beer when I visited America and developed a love/hate relationship with it. Sometimes it tasted woody and refreshing, but other times it actually tasted like dishwashing liquid. This scent is exactly the same - it starts off woody and quite manly but soon after all I get is Fairy Liquid. I didn't get any vanilla from this unfortunately.

    Sugar Skull

2008 version. Smells like someone poured some sugar into a saucepan and left it on high heat to burn. Very harsh and sickly. It was like it in 2008 and is still like it in 2011. Sorry BPAL. 0/5.

    Dorian

Reading these reviews makes me wonder if they accidentally left the vanilla out of mine because I can't smell the slightest hint of it. I got this to try out on my boyfriend and on both him and me it smells like lavender talcum powder. I get a bit of citrus in the bottle but that disappears on the skin. Once it's dried down it just smells like a soft lavender talc that an elderly lady would wear. It's a mild and inoffensive scent but not one I want to smell like and definitely not what I want my boyfriend to smell like! Boyfriend's opinion: "A bit too light and feminine but a nice scent". 3 out of 5. Edit: It would seem I was too hasty to sample my new goodies. The Dorian imp is 6-8 weeks old now and I can definitely smell the vanilla and the tea too. It changes the scent a lot and it's a lot more warm now. The lavender and lemon are still in the background making it a more manly scent than just vanilla tea, although I would call it gender neutral. No more old ladies in it! I actually would prefer it to be just vanilla tea, it would be perfect then. Upgraded to 4 out of 5.

    Fearful Pleasure

I first got this in 2008 when it came out. It smelt like cinnamon, that's all I could get from it. 100% harsh sharp cinnamon. I put it away. Revisiting it this autumn I discover it's matured into a really nice scent. I still get a lot of cinnamon but it's much more mellow and sweeter. There's a mustiness in the background that might be leather or woods. It's much like the mustiness of the aftertaste of cider* and perry. As I wear it for longer, it turns softer and a little more bakery-like. Yum. *I'm English and I do believe our "cider" is different to Americans. Here it means an alcoholic drink twice as strong as beer, made from apples. It's not spicy and it's best drunk ice cold on a hot summer's day. Cider in America is hot spiced apple juice - cue me being shocked when hearing about American children drinking cider!

    A Blade of Grass

Grass. Not autumn grass but fresh, green, lush, summer grass. I don't get any of the deeper scents that some people have mentioned. It's just very fresh and clean. In fact it's turning a little soapy now, but I like that.

    Sugar Skull

Just received a decant of this (2008). In the imp it smells very fresh, sweet and fruity. As soon as it hit my wrist it turned into burnt sugar. I was hoping that would fade but it hasn't, in fact it is slowly turning plasticky. Oh dear. I'll try it again in a few months, here's hoping it will mellow out a bit.

    Cheshire Cat

Something has gone terribly wrong here. It's turned into bleach on my skin. Not just a soapy smell but an oh-god-I-breathed-in-from-the-bleach-bottle-and-now-my-lungs-are-burning type of bleach. Very disappointing as I love fruity scents.

    Ouija

Unlike its name suggests, there is nothing sinister about this perfume, it is just a pretty floral. I don't know which flowers as I'm not good with flower scents. I couldn't detect rose on its own but it does smell as though rose is part of it. At first I thought it was a bit old lady-ish but as it dried down it got a bit creamier and I started thinking that it smells like the sort of scent that Woods of Windsor would sell. Sophisticated, mature, womanly. I couldn't smell any of the wood that people are talking about.

    Silk Road

I think this smells just like a new age shop. All incense and patchouli and smelly candles and swathes of rich coloured cloth with decorative jewels and astrology books and dingyness and oh, in this one the woman at the till is drinking a mug of cinnamon tea. I've always hated the smell of new age shops, sorry BPAL.

    London

That is what this perfume smells like. Pure rose, a big bright fresh pink rose. I think it's very true to the flower and quite cloying at first and too sickly for me. After some drydown it turns a little more subtle and powdery. But still pure, pure rose.

    Szepasszony

When I first put this on it really reminded me of a fabric conditioner I have. And just like concentrated fabric conditioner in the bottle, it was really too strong to be nice. I was hoping it would fade and turn into a nice clean scent but it didn't go that way. The floral-ness started to disappear and I was left with a sort of cold ozone smell. It's hard to describe but if I put a colour to it, it would be a transparent blue with a hint of grey. It really was rather sharp and cold, no hint of any floral on me. Too harsh for my liking I'm afraid.

    The Red Queen

I like this. When I first put it on it smelt like chocolate covered sweet marzipan, it reminded me of Christmas sweets. That soon faded though and now it smells like cherry wood. Literally like wood infused with cherry juice. It is fading very quickly which is a disappointment. I think the smell would suit a shower gel or soap better than being worn as a perfume, but I will definitely put this on my wishlist and maybe figure out some other uses for it.

    Zombi

Smells like wet mud to me. With a strong undercurrent of something floral, must be the rose I suppose but it's really overpowered by wet earth. It's somewhat refreshing for hot weather as it reminds me of sodden grass after a lot of rain. Does turn more floral as it dries. It's an intriguing scent and very cleverly done. I love sniffing it on my wrist. But, it's really too pungent for me to wear as a perfume.

    Tweedledum

This smells red to me, rather than green. I got a sweet cherry and apple fruitiness with woody mustyness in the background. Quite unusual. The high fruit notes are fading quickly, leaving the mustyness, which is a bit figgy now I've read the other reviews. I think this would also be good on a man, it's definitely unisex.

    Two, Five & Seven

I got this in a swap along with four others. I knew one of them was a rose one but from sniffing the imps I couldn't tell which... It does smell floral but also sweet, fruity. Now that it's on my wrist it does smell more rosy but it definitely smells fruity too. Like apricots or peach schnaps. It's definitely not the pure rose I was expecting. Having said that, I do rather like it. It's a bright, happy, spring-summer scent. Not sure I'd get a whole bottle but will definitely enjoy using up this imp.
