    Siberian Musk

This is that note that I love so much that is common to Snake Oil, Snake Charmer, Madame Moriarty, and other Snake Oil-related scents! It has the same color that marks my skin, and is the primary note above the heavy vanilla I get in Snake Oil. I love it, and will be wearing it alone as well as layering it over some of my other favorites. I am so happy that I ordered two bottles of this! I wish it were a GC as I would make it one of my mainstays.

    Singing Moon

This is odd for me to even be reviewing Singing Moon 2012, because I only have this due to a customer service error by the lab. I waffled over whether I should even mention it in my review. I ordered two bottles of Spanish Red Carnation, but when I opened my package, it contained Singing Moon instead. I had no interest in even opening a bottle to sniff, as I knew it would be too misty and aquatic for me to bother with. I contacted the lab immediately and offered to return the bottles - promising that they were unopened and completely virgin from the lab, but they told me to keep them and sent out my Spanish Red Carnation with my next (already pending) order. What excellent customer service by the lab!!! So here I am with two frottles of Singing Moon! I am gifting one to a coworker whom I've been trying to enable, but I decided that I might as well give the other bottle a sniff and a little skin test before deciding to gift it to someone else as well. As expected, it is misty, etherial, and very grassy, with the ambergris giving it just enough staying power to stick around for a while. Although this is not something I chose, I am finding it very nice on these unbelievably hot and humid days that are full of heavy thunderstorms. Something about it is just refreshing enough, but it does not feel too "un-like me" compared to my usual preferences for me to dislike. It gives me a similar feeling to F5, in that it is very green and not my typical preference. So thanks to the lab, a coworker is getting gifted a bottle, and I am going to try to convince my daughter to try the other bottle. I've been unsuccessful at enabling her but this one might do the trick! If it doesn't work out for her, then I guess it's meant to be that it was for me.

    Spanish Red Carnation

Carnatlons have alway been my favorite flower, but the carnations that you purchase nowadays lack that beautiful spicy smell that I remember from years ago. I've planted pots of red dianthus and garnered a tiny hint of that smell, but it's faint when compared to the carnation scent I remember. I didn't discover BPAL until after the single notes had been discontinued, so I was very excited to see the return, starting with Spanish Red Carnation. I ordered two bottles immediately, just in the hopes that I would find that long-ago spicy carnationn scent. Well, I am beyond thrilled! I met the postman at my mailbox today because tracking indicated that my order was out for delivery. Opening the bottle and sniffing straight from there, I am immediately in love!! THIS is how carnations are supposed to smell. Spicy, definitely red, and I am in love. Applied on wrists, it is the same scent, and hasn't morphed or even faded much. I am so glad I ordered two bottles. Now to decide if I can afford to order a couple more before they come down. I imagine this will age beautifully, and it's such a work-safe scent that I can see me going through a lot of this. I can't wait to see what future single notes will come next, and there are a few I hope will appear, but if nothing else appears that ends up being right for me, it's ok, because I am so happy to have this!

    Dorian

For some reason I never got around to trying Dorian before, and finally the lab insisted that I must, by throwing in a frimp in my last order. Wowie woo hoo what took me so long?! I should have known this would be beautiful, but I had. no. idea. I think the tea note is what always threw me off and made me pass it by. But this is an amazing lavendar vanilla musk and it wears like forever. I love Snake Oil, and Lilith Victoria is one of my top favorites, and I finally "get" the blending of the two since now I actually smell the Dorian in it! I never realized it before. Thankfully I don't get lemon or citrus, just am amazing blend that I can see is easily worn by either gender. I would love to try this on my husband but he's a hopeless case. However, I am definitely adding this to my next bottle order!

    The Grave-Pig

Earthy patchouli that is sweetened by the fig. I was originally worried about the mushroom, but that just keeps it grounded with an earthiness. This is very long-lasting too, and stays a warm sweet patchouli for hours. Really happy that the lab frimped me with this, or I might never have thought to try it!

    Humanitas Bath Oil

Predominantly a dark cherry scent with a strong undertone of frankincense- almost to the point of being satan's cherries. The intense cherry scent burns off quickly and leaves a dark mildly spicy fruitiness. I use my bath oils as an after-shower moisturizer, and this one is good as a scent on it's own. I've also tried it layered under Ghoulish, which works well. I also agree with Eden's Sixth Day that Hollywood Babylon is another good choice for layering. I'm glad I finally got around to ordering a bottle and have been wearing Humanitas a lot this summer.

    Bordello

This is full of notes that typically work out well for me- plum and wine are especially good on my skin. The only note I was worried about was the amaretto: I love to drink it, but wasn't sure how it would react on my skin. I am very happy that Bordello is a "hit"! It is fruity, sexy but fresh all at the same time. I think it is a lovely scent and I would wear it in the summer when I am in the rare mood for something different. It's not an overpowering scent and I think I could wear this to work without worry. Will even consider a bottle of this.

    Thanatos

I was completely surprised by this one. The woods, incense, and sandalwood are very strong, to the point that I was shocked to discover that there is rose in this blend. As it dries down, it remains woodsy but there is a dark pine or cypress kind of note present. This scent reminds me of The Night Hag Visiting the Lapland Witches- which was one of my favorites from the last Halloween series. However, this one falls short enough that it would never serve even as a replacement. I might use up my imp layered with Silent Forest Bath Oil, however, as I think it will be complimentary.

    Whoso List To Hunt

Started out promising, as a soft, dusty musk at first, but then the rose amps and turns it all soapy, as usual. Another scent with rose that just won't work for me, alas.
  10. Poenari

    Has No Hanna

Nondescript musky florals overwhelmed by soapy rose. Long-lasting soapy rose that I must wash off. Sorry, despite the intent, this one is just not for me.

    Patient Friendly Oils

I don't work in the medical profession, but I'm only chiming in for one reason: a couple of years ago, I took my cat to the vet, and the lady behind the counter asked me what kind of perfume I was wearing. That question always makes me nervous, because I never know if it's asked because I smell good, or bad. I'm afraid it means I applied too much and offended someone, Anyway, that day I was wearing Melainis, which I had not reapplied since the morning, and this was after work, but I already knew that Melainis has hella throw and staying power on me. The lady told me that she'd completed chemotherapy, and since then nothing smelled good to her at all. Either scents made her ill, or she couldn't smell anything. She said my perfume was the first beautiful thing she'd smelled since she started her chemo. Even though it's an LE, I gave her the bottle, since I had it in my purse. I was so happy to make her happy. So long story short, this wasn't an "in the hospital" patient, but just a comment that an incense-heavy scent smelled great to someone after chemo, so maybe a light incense might also work, simply because it's not the perfumey kind of scent?
  12. I too have been searching for a matching perfume to Butterfly Nectar bath oil. I rarely wear floral perfumes, but I adore Butterfly Nectar, and since I have amassed a huge collection of frimps, I decided to try out the imps that have honey and a floral note listed. Bizarrely, just after posting that, I found that Wembley dries down to something very similar on me (after it has gone through its very loud and scary fruit stage) Based on the notes listed for Wembley, I would never in a million years have predicted that! Now- how about a recommendation for something to go with Humanitas bath oil? In the review thread, there is one mention of Hollywood Babylon being in the same family. I've tried a search for similar notes, but so far I'm striking out. We need more people to read this thread!
  13. I too have been searching for a matching perfume to Butterfly Nectar bath oil. I rarely wear floral perfumes, but I adore Butterfly Nectar, and since I have amassed a huge collection of frimps, I decided to try out the imps that have honey and a floral note listed. Haven't gotten very far yet in my testing and will try to update when I get a chance. Rose usually turns to soap on me, but so far, Jezebel layered nicely with Butterfly Nectar. Jezebel's notes are " gloriously decadent blend of honey, roses, orange blossom and sandalwood." I definitely get the honey and florals, but the sandalwood grounds the rose enough to keep it from going soapy. I applied Butterfly Nectar as an after-shower moisturizer, and Jezebel as my perfume. Not convinced enough to order a bottle of Jezebel, so I'll keep digging through my imps. I sure hope someone else can chime in with some options, because I just ordered two bottles of Butterfly Nectar!
  14. I love to wear my patchouli-heavy scents in the summer... maybe it reminds me of my teenage summers in the 60's/70's so in heavy rotation right now are Banshee Beat, Occupywallstreet, Gobln, and Anne Bonny, with some Hetairae on occasion.

Tried Carnival Wax? BPAL suggestions needed!

You have gotten some great recommendations and I think we are also scent twins! Since you already bought Snake Oil, I highly recommend Tombeur in the VILF section. Also seconding the Mme. Moriarty when the Carnival returns.

    Butterfly Nectar Bath Oil

I'm not a "floral" girl when it comes to my perfumes, but I adore Puddin's bath oils so I've learned never to miss out on at least trying them out whenever I can, so I got a decant of Butterfly Nectar. I applied as my after-shower moisturizer (my typical method of using the bath oils) and OMG is this beautiful! The only note I can actually detect is honey, although it's not a listed note. It's not a strong honey, but is certainly part of the nectar. As for the florals and petals, I can't pick out any individual notes, but since I rarely wear florals that isn't surprising. What is a surprise is how beautifully everything melds into a sweet, soft scent that doesn't turn powdery and has made me a floral convert. I will definitely be ordering a couple of bottles of this, as I think I will use it all summer long. Now I need to find a compimentary BPAL perfume to apply with it, as I always like my perfumes to complement the bath oils. This butterfly is truly nectar. edited because duh... I guess "honeyed petals" means honey.

    Satyr

I received this as a frimp from the lab, and OMG I love it! Strong red musk, cinnamon, with a hint of vetiver as an undernote that grounds it and gives it an earthiness, and it's very long-lasting. I don't feel that it's masculine, but I have no problem wearing heavier, dark scents. I wish I could convince my husband to try it though, as I bet it would smell awesome on him.

    Le Lèthè

LE LÈTHÈ- a beautiful dark coppery red blood color. Red musk is one of my favorite notes and at first, that's all I get. If it stayed pure red musk it would be fine with me, but after about 5 minutes the tobacco comes out, followed by the hemlock. Together the notes blend with the red musk and tone it down into a dark musky scent. I really like this, and bet it will be even better after it ages. Edited to add that I applied it before bed, and it is very long-lasting. The next morning it was still very apparent. Love this! and have already decided I will need a backup bottle!
  19. Oh thanks for the tip. I will be on the lookout for both. When I do I will let you know how I made out with them. I need some absolute favorites. Luck and Laughter,Tricia I have Hollywood Babylon. I really like it a lot. It was one of my first purchases. Thanks,Tricia I too am a red musk junkie, so don't forget about Lust, in the Sin & Salvation section. Love it a lot!

    Voodoo

At first there was a strong almond scent, but the almond burned off quickly and then it was all vetiver, which was unexpected. I hadn't read the notes but for some reason I didn't realize there was vetiver in this scent. Fortunately I'm ok with wearing most vetiver scents. After finally reading the notes, I shouldn't have been surprised to pick it out so fast because I amp vetiver. I don't mind Voodoo and will wear the imp, but this isn't a scent that grabs me enough to buy a bottle.
  21. I too adore The Night Hag Visiting the Lapland Witches and am interested in finding a similar GC. I am hoping that Dracul and might be similar but I haven't tried it yet. The RPGs might be a good route to take - perhaps an Evil Elf Ranger or a Lawful Gnome Ranger? I have an aged bottle of Dracul- it was my first bottle purchase in early 2006, and when it was fresh all I got was a minty orange scent. Now that it has aged, it is a dark clove, minty orange. I like it better now that it's aged, but unfortunately, it's nothing even close to Night Hag on me. But I haven't tried any of the RPGs, so I will look into them. I will have to dig through my massive collection of imps to see if I have Odin because I haven't kept up my spreadsheet. I don't think I have it, though, so will try it along with those RPG scents. Thanks for the recs! And if anyone else finds a good Night Hag-ish scent, please let me know.
  22. I love The Night Hag Visiting the Lapland Witches and am so glad that I ordered a bottle while it was live. I have never been interested in pine scents before, but the sandalwood and smoke are wonderful, and I think it I've discovered a new love in the terebinth pine note. Can anyone recommend something similar? I've tried Black Forest, but it is lacking the smokiness that I love with Night Hag, and I can't think what to layer it with to bring out the smokiness of Night Hag. I'm also hesitant to randomly try other pine scents for fear of them smelling like bathroom cleaner.

    The Storyteller's Parlor Atmosphere Spray

I expected this one to have more notes come through, but all I get is the leather armchair. None of the pipesmoke or brandy, and I was really hoping for the firewood scent to come through. Leather is not my favorite note, and unfortunately this one is all leather. I think I may try it out in my car, though, because it almost has a new car smell to it. It is very long-lasting and not unpleasant if you like leather. Updated review after trying it out in the car: Now this scent is awesome! I sprayed two squirts towards the carpeted floor mat on the passenger side of my car. As it dispersed, the leather faded and there was the scent I had been hoping for! Definitely wafting pipesmoke and a slight brandy. When I returned to my car after work, the scent was lingering and is exactly as described. I'm so glad that I gave this another try in the car! I drive one hour each way to work and usually listen to audiobooks, so now my car is my storyteller's parlor .

    Hockey Urchin Bath Oil

This is an interesting scent- not unpleasant, but not OMGLOVE like most of the bath oils have been to me. I haven't tried it in the bath yet, but I can see that this one will probably be better used as intended, rather than as an after shower moisturizer. The patchouli is present, but it's more of a grassy, herbal patchouli, tempered by the chamomile and spices. It's not overwhelmingly spicy though, even when applied post-shower I didn't get any burn from the ginger or spices, and all of the notes seem to blend together. Not one of my favorites, so I'm glad that I only got a decant of this one first.

    Winter Wind Atmosphere Spray

This actually smells cold, like a freezing windy winter day. I can't believe it! Like stepping out into one of those late January days when we always seem to get a cold spell and the wind-chill drops to below zero. While not unpleasant, I don't really like it as a room scent. This is a good bathroom scent, however.
