    Milk Moon 2007

First Sniff: Spoiled milk and fruit. I can kind of detect a pina colada / coconut milk scent the more I smell it. First Application: The milk is less prominant with the fruit scents taking over. I don't really notice the grape but the fig, date, and pomegranate are definately present. Dry Down: Not a lot of throw here. Still milky and fruity but now I'm starting to get the fabled baby formula effect. This blend is nice overall but I'm not sure it works with me.

    Pumpkin Queen

I love pumpkins. I feel that they are the perfect organisms. They are brightly colored, they smell lovely, all but their outer shell can be eaten, they can be carved and filled with fire, and they are always beautiful. When pumpkins die and start to rot, you can roll them down someone's driveway or smash them in the face of someone you dont like. Even in death, pumpkins are useful. But I digress This pumpkin filled vial was no exception to my obsession. The pumpkin is matched in strength by ginger and cardamom. I imagine if I garnished a cup of Indian masala chai with pumpkin puree, this is what it would smell like. It is very rich and spicy but not overpowering. It reminds me of 'Drink Me' except the sweetness is replaced by spice. If you can get your hands on a vial, I'd definately recommend it.

    Kali

First sniff: Chocolate and red wine. There is a honey liquor smell, like Bordello without the candy aftershock. First applied: Floral with the wine and chocolate taking a backseat. Drying: Something sweet and red in the background. Maybe it is the tobacco? I'm not familiar with whatever it is. I agree with everyone that commented on this particular vial being an "adult" scent. I don't think it is something that would appeal to the younger crowd. I am very positive on Kali, sort of a grown up and less boozy version of Bordello which I also like a great deal. I received this one as a freebie with my last imp order and couldn't be more pleased with it.

    Baobhan Sith

In the bottle, the scent is very strong and citrusy. I almost didn't try it at all because it was so heady. As I applied it, it gained a powdery odor. I can smell the grapefruit and white tea but the other notes are indistinct. It is a very unique scent but I don't know that it is good on me. I think I'll swap this one.

    Leanan Sidhe

My first impression was that in the bottle it smelled exactly like a perfume my irish mother had when I was little. I could swear there is some lily of the valley in it. Otherwise I can't pick out the other ingredients other than there is something floral tempered with something green and wet. On my skin it is equally delightful. It isn't too strong or too sweet. I am unable to stop smelling myself. Long term use of this perfume may give rise to narcissism. Use with caution.

    Lucy's Kiss

"Created to represent the essence of Bram Stoker's tragic heroine, Lucy Westenra. Seductive, wanton and deadly, but underscored with a soft, wistful innocense. The gentle scent of rose and a blend of Victorian spices." When I opened the Imp, all I could smell was rose. It was sweet and not overpowering, more of an antique rose. I stirred it slightly and met an entirely different scent, something clean but wild. When applied, it began to smell like the seashell soaps my grandparents had when I was a child. Then as it dried the rose smell came out accompanied by something that smelled faintly of pear. I imagine it as Lucy before her downfall. All in all it is a great scent, definately different. An evening in spring would suit it fine. I'm curious as to what the "victorian spices" in the description refers to.

    Shanghai

I don't usually care for scents described as having citrus in them. I do love green tea and honeysuckle though so I opted to try an imp of this one. When I put my nose to the lip of the bottle I could feel a tingle, like when you are about to take a sip of champagne. Otherwise, I think it smells exactly as it is described. Iced green tea with lemon and sweetness. I drink my green tea hot and straight but that doesn't deter me from wearing this scent time and again. It isn't very strong and I've noticed that it wears off a bit more quickly than Dorian, Alice, or Kyoto which I wear more often. You may need to reapply occasionally with this one. I'm very positive on Shanghai and am curious to try other formulas with green tea in them.

    Dorian

I thought I had already added my two cents to this one but apparently I dreamed it up. I had heard rave reviews about this particular scent around the time of my first imp order so I added it on a whim. In the bottle: A lemony sugar scent. Something tasty and sweet. When applied: Vanilla, tea, and sugar. I imagine a richly decorated english mansion against an overcast sky but maybe thats the influence of its description talking. Wear this when you feel vasty superior to everyone else. Even I couldn't resist a boy that smells like this and I am a pillar of self-control.
  9. Delight

    Blood Kiss

This was one of the first imps I elected to try. I had never purchased anything from the lab before and this one just sounded like something I'd wear. I was a little worried when it mentioned musk since it tends to add a lot of strength to a scent. In the bottle: Strong, with an incense aftershock. I am unfamiliar with the scents of vetiver and poppy so I assume it is one or both of them that I'm smelling. When worn: I get a spicy, cinnamon type smell at first. Then honey and vanilla layered over the clove. I don't really smell the cherry or the wine in this. Kyoto smells like chocolate-covered cherries to me and Blood Kiss doesn't really compare to that at all. Blood Kiss is a very warm smell, something you'd wear when you are looking for love in all the wrong places. The scent of willing debauchery.
  10. Delight

    Bordello

I originally got this is as freebie imp when I bought a vial of Alice. I looked at the name and was sure that it would smell of some awful incense or some terribly heavy floral. It doesn't. IT SMELLS LIKE CANDY I can't emphasize its confectionary scent enough. It distracted coworkers that were wandering in and out of my personal space. I had a hard time keeping random folks from smelling me. I imagine this would be a good thing at a party or some such but totally inappropriate for the work environment. As for its ingredients, the amaretto is what I notice the most about it. And the bizarre reactions of people who are in range.

    Alice

I have to say that Alice is definately my favorite of the 9 BPAL scents I've tried so far. I got it as an imp and two weeks later I had to order the largest vial I could. At first sniff it smells like flowers and powdered sugar; a more pleasant combination than I was expecting. Like many others have said, you end up sorting through memories of childhood tea parties with dainty china you swiped from your mother. When I put it on I was, as my name implies, delighted. It smelled so delicious that I worried others might take a bite out of me. I assume its the milk and honey that gives the perfume that powdered sugar finish. Whatever the case, it blends perfectly with the tea and florals. It always cheers me up when I'm at work and I turn my head and get an unexpected whiff of it. A liquid antidepressant for any lady with a sweet tooth.
  12. Delight

    Zorya

In the vial it almost smelled too strong and musky for me. I know better than to judge a scent by how it comes off in the bottle though. When applied, Zorya smells spectacular. Predominantly jasmine with what I assume is the iris and cereus in the background. I barely notice the musk when I am wearing it. I really have to put my nose to my skin to smell it. Otherwise, the florals are all you notice. I imagine that this is what the most powerful political figures would wear in the evenings. This scent was designed to be worn by only the dominant and strong of character, in my opinion. A bit of warning, :When I apply more than one coat it smells too strong, like a cheap cologne on me so less is probably more with this scent.
  13. Delight

    Kyoto

First allow me to say that I may be a little biased towards this scent because Kyoto is one of my favorite places to visit. Therefore, I'm likely to love the scent just on its name alone. Right out of the bottle it smells light and tart, like if you held your nose over a just-poured glass of soda and let the bubbles lap at your nose. I noticed the cherry and something very cold and clear (I'm assuming the star anise). When it is first applied, it smells exactly like a cherry cordial - a cherry surrounded by cream in a soft chocolate shell. As it dried it became a sweet, pale floral. It wasn't too strong or too light and it lasted quite a while. In Kyoto there is a long path along this one river called "The Path of Wisdom". It is lined with cherry trees that bloom long past spring. I've caught some of the trees blooming in late July which is a bit odd. This perfume reminds me of being caught between the cold river and the flowering trees. I imagine that I'll need to purchase a larger bottle shortly.
