Ooh, lime and... I swear, pine! That must be the tobacco mixing with the lime. It's a very pretty masculine scent. And a bit spicy on my second time trying this one. Very nice! ETA where I'd wear this: Hot summer day, outskirts of London

    Veil

Laaaaavenderrrr. When still wet, this is quite tangy, actually! But it dries down to a very soft floral. Very feminine and pretty.

    Brimstone

With a name like Brimstone, I didn't have much hope of this being a wearable scent on me, with my finicky chemistry, but it's actually quite lovely. Wet, it's super smoky and burnt, but it dries down to a lovely cedar+patchouli. It's woody and warm and lovely. A nice layering scent!

Oh dear, this starts very vinegar on me. It tones down as it dries, and then it's a strange, almost confusing, blend of lavender and bread. There is something sweet to it, but the vinegar never quite completely leaves. It's not a bad vinegar, it's just, I feel like a salad. Alas, not for my chemistry, but so glad I tried it because I've been thinking of it since I missed it in the 2014 go-round. ETA 7/12/17: I'm so freaking glad I didn't add this to swaps right away because now that it's had time to settle, I am ALL OVER this scent. The vinegar that I hated at first is GONE. What's left is a beautiful, sweet lavender. There's still an unusualness to this scent, but it's so freaking good. I'll need another bottle if this comes out again in future Yules. Where I'd wear this: The first week of December, when I'm starting to get that "omgosh the holidays are coming up!" feeling

    Like the Flashing of Light

Is BPAL Delivery Day not the most amazing day ever? This is so super mandarin. It smells like bright yellow. It's soft and smooth, not sharp citrus. I'm not getting much amber or, alas, saffron (the note I'm always looking for!) but it is very pretty and happy.

Snake Oil with chocolate! Not much sexier than that. This could be my Snake Oil!

    The Snow at Noon

5ml straight from the Lab. Top notes are super camphor, but that fades just enough with dry down. After 15 minutes, it's completely unique. Minty tea and bubblegum! This is super unique and interesting.

    Coral Snake (2016)

5ml straight from the Lab. Top notes: juicy red apple. I don't get much Snake Oil in this blend, especially wet. As it starts to dry down, I get the most interesting hint of plumeria with the apple. It's kind of a mealy apple. 10-15 minutes after drydown, it's a dry apple on me, with no lemon and just a touch of the plumeria.

    Full Moon

5ml straight from the Lab. I'm getting all white floral (neroli) with no tea or ginger. Light and pretty scent, but not for my skin.

    Cascading Blossoms

If I could have a house full of gardenias, I would be happy. I love gardenias so much, but I'm struggling to find a gardenia perfume that works for me. I thought for sure with the plumeria this one would be a winner, but it's just going all messy floral on me. Beautiful on the right skin chemistry; not my skin, though!

    Samhain

I have a 2011 and a 2013 from the Lab, and there's really nothing else that needs to be said. They really are beautiful and they really do smell like the epitome of autumn.

    A Commentary

5ml straight from the Lab. Beautiful apricots in the Shungas, and this one is also delightful in the bottle. It goes a bit bubblegum on me, unfortunately. I've let it age for almost two years and it's still not sitting well on my skin. This could be beautiful on others. Definitely worth a try if you come across a bottle.

    Tombstone

I love this wet–smells so good. But the cedar note goes very ‘pencil shavings’ on me. Kathmandu does the same thing, but in a pleasant way. The cedar here just seems to overpower the rest on my skin and make me smell like an elementary school student. ETA Where I'd wear this: Studying for the ACT

    Black Pearl

I am so confused by this scent. At first, all I could smell was cheesy feet (I know, I know!!!) but that may just be how straightforward chocolate morphs on me. I want to give the Lab's chocolate notes another shot (I do love a few that have it in the background), but I don't think this is my chocolate blend.

    Yorick

Smells like peat moss. Love it in the garden, less so on me. I dearly wish I could grab some of the ginger others are smelling. Maybe I'll let it age for a bit.

    Fire Monkey

I am so glad I got a bottle of this when it was live. It's taken me a full year to fully appreciate it, but now I couldn't imagine letting it go. It's incredibly orange, but layered — mandarin, tangerine, kumquat, all blending so perfectly. And underneath all that, you can smell the peony and the plum blossom. It's beautifully floral underneath. I feel lucky wearing it! ETA Where I'd wear this: When you need to feel like gold and sunshine

    September Midnight

2013 bottle straight from the Lab. Dry, resinous. A lovely undercurrent of berry. It's a very dark purple smell to me. I can never decide if I love this or feel indifferent about it. ETA 7/24/17: I love this. It has aged very beautifully. It's so somber, quiet, and nostalgic. Everything about it feels like I've entered a magical world. From the first wet sniff when it's juicy, tangy purple fruit to the somber drydown when it's deep, dry, and crackling like a dying summer. I hope they do this one again this fall. I'm ready for another bottle. Where I'd wear this: To set up a Samhain ritual outside, when it's chilly

    Arkham

This was my first (and first favorite) scent from BPAL. I bought the 5ml blind, got it in the mail, and loved it instantly. I still love it. It has aged steadily over the last 5 years. I am so afraid that it will discontinue. It is the most beautiful slick, green floral. It's feminine and unexpected and so sly. Forever and always my favorite BPAL.

    Dia de los Muertos

This is actually a review of the 2012 blend, so it's aged a bit. But it's a beautiful aging. It's resin-y and incense-y. A bit of chocolate underneath. Like spiced cakes. One of my faves. ETA 7/14/17: It's starting to break down and lose the chocolate and cakes. It's still a lovely blend, but it's mostly spice and woods now. I think I'll need a fresh bottle if they make it again this Halloween. (Please make it again, Lab!) Where I'd wear it: An evening party, autumn, with great friends who don't judge your candy habit

    Aristocratic Couple

My bottle's straight from the Lab. I knew when I saw this description that this would be a favorite. I was so right. This is so delicious smelling without being overly foody or fruity. It smells like creamy apricot with just a hint of spice and vanilla. I adore it and I know I’ll be wearing it all the time this spring/summer. It's incredibly apricot. Almost 2 years on, it's holding steady.

Beer from the Marsh Woman's Brewery

I don't pick up a lot of beer, but I'm definitely picking up some grass because I sneezed as soon as I sniffed. It's actually kind of a soft, semi-sweet blend, with a sharp grass lingering underneath. Kinda nice if you don't sneeze.

    Burial

The dirt+juniper is woah!-in-your-face when wet. On dry-down, it smells the same, but less sharp. Nice and foresty. Great for folks who like smelling like nature. Reminds me of walking into a little new-age boutique shop. Perfect for husband? ETA 01.24.18 - Trying this a second time, and I now love it as an atmosphere scent. Popping it in my warmer now. What I'd use it for: Atmosphere scent for concentration and grounding

    Embalming Fluid

Every time a frimp of Embalming Fluid shows up in my order, I try it again, just hoping that today will be the day. I see all your lovely reviews and excitement over Embalming Fluid and I want it to work sooo bad, but 5 years on, it's still just Lemon Pledge on me. *mourning*
