When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I just found a random imp of Regan and I'm in love! I'm bummed that it's discontinued. What's another super light floral in the GC? It also went a little sunblock-y on me, but in a pleasant way.

    Beaver Moon 2011

OK, weird. When I got this bottle fresh from the lab it was sharp and cologne-y. It was out of rotation for a while, but I just started using it again and it has totally morphed into proper lavender cheesecake. Has this happened to anyone else? Really nice and not too buttery or cloying. I like it as a cozy bedtime scent.

    R'lyeh

Wow what a disappointment. There is some note that is sometimes in aquatics that smells like new carpet on me. Bay leaf maybe? Otherwise, it would be nice. Similar to Sea of Glass. Very watery and not ozoney at all. Slightly bitter.

    Dragon's Milk

My skin just goes nuts with vanilla. The dragon's blood makes an appearance as a slightly spiced, watery cherry - but is mostly drowned out by a slightly honey/creamy vanilla. It's pretty and unassuming, but I'm not particularly wow-ed by it either. However, I'm working at a reception desk and I'm getting tons of compliments from people walking through. "Mmm! Something smells like vanilla!" ... "Ooo! It smells really good out here!"

    The Hanging Gardens

This is absolutely bursting with deliciousness. It goes on very juicy and fruity. Then the fig/quince warm it up a little, with a slight spicyness following. Finally, a slightly woody, earthy floral it rounds out. Wearing it really is like walking through a luscious garden. As the notes dance around each other, I can imagine myself passing by fig trees, then under some baskets of tropical flowers, and finally sitting on a bench by some rose bushes. I'd say this is in the same family as Pannychis or the Perfumed Gardens, although it is definately brighter and juicer than both, making it a little more wearable in the summer. I'd also like to state for the record that in spite of this having a noticable rose note I still really enjoy it, which is a rare miracle in my world of sniffing.

    Baobhan Sith

So lovely! Light and crisp. The tea really balances takes the edge off the bitterness of the grapefruit. It's a very subtle blend. Sadly, it is far too faint, and disappeared completely after about two hours. Very pretty though.

    Wings of Azrael

Azrael is the Angel of Death, marked as the last being to die in the Apocalypse. Though a harbinger of doom, his duties are an act of mercy: he curtails human life before world-weariness and despair destroys our spirits. Warm myrrh swirled with a bittersweet blend of violet, Lily of the Valley, juniper, cypess and cajeput. Surprising! Violet usually goes rotten on me, but it's actually pretty subdued here. The juniper and cyprus really make this blend sing. The myrrh keeps it from being too bitey, but it is still a pretty sharp, gutsy blend. A little headache-y still, due to the violet but I can see someone else totally loving this one.

    Elegba

This couldn't have worked out worse for me. In the bottle, it smelled like a strong, delicious pina colada. Dry it turned into tutt-frutti-flavored rubber. GAG! Get it off!! Apparently coconut is a no-go for me because the same thing happened with Obatala! Such a bummer! I was really looking forward to this one!

    Tenochtitlan

Wow! This is a scent I almost entirely looked over but I am so pleasantly surprised. It's really invigorating and watery fresh. I'm not expert enough to identify particular notes except the prickly pear that jumps up and says HI!!! Slightly herbal - perhaps even bitter, slightly fruity, resting on a background of powdery amber.

    Hollywood Babylon

Hmm. Musk and strawberry candy. Not exactly a pair I'd imagine would work together. The berry smell dukes it out with the vanilla musk and holds its own. Quite a feat because the vanilla/musk usually has a party on me and drowns out whatever else is in a blend. I think this is Pink Phoenix's evil twin or Snake Oil's tarty little sister. I really like this! It's really potent, a beautiful sass-tastic blend.

Figs and Fig Scents - alone and in combos

If you can get your hands on some, the Perfumed Garden is a cozy warm fig & myrrh on me. It's my favorite when it's chill!y!

    Jolly Roger

Actually not as masculine as I thought it would be, but I love salty! . It's an interesting combo of fresh ocean spray and laundered and sun-dried pirate gear.

    Jailbait

Bottled bubblegum. Amazingly, as it dries the sticky bubblegum fades and it turns rather cinnamon and bitter as it dries. Not as I expected but also not very good.

    Tweedledum

Whee! Mango! On the drydown, the mango calms down a litte bit. The fig and patchouli step up together with a incensy, spiced sweetness. I don't get much of the tea note except for a little hint of grassiness in the background. Fruity and fun!

    Dorian

A creamy, lemony, sweet tea. Very light and delicate. I love how the musk and sugar dance around. It's a very natural, unassuming fragrance. Just downright pleasant.
