    Braii

OH HAI TEA!!!!!!!! I could drink my wrist. BRAII smells just like an expensive aromatic tea--the finest Earl Grey. Or maybe Lady Grey? Individual spice notes blend together to create something delicious. And it's dead sexy on me! Who knew?

    O v6

In the bottle, I'd say Ov6 is O Lite, a kinder, gentler version. It's more ethereal. Wet, it's an absolute dream. I understand the comparison to Maiden v. 2, it's like honeyspun Fairy O. As it dries down, it goes through phases of being slightly plastic-y, but then it goes back to gorgeousness. And back again and back again. It lasts forever (overnight!) and there's more gorgeousness than plastic. Thanks to a dear BPAL'er for the gift.

    Comforting Plush Companion

In Imp: Soft, salty floral Wet: VERY buttery and a little salty...like popcorn topping. Bilquis-like popcorn that isn't quite as nasty as Bilquis is on me (Bilquis is like the popcorn on your soles that you scrape off on my skin!). Early drydown: Sweet floral musk with a touch of salt...butter has mostly melted away. No rose but a smidge of plum is sneaking out. Later: This is lovely...no more buttered popcorn (with apologies to James Brown)! Just honey plum musk blended together in a sweetly comforting scent. A plush companion, you might say. Not sure if I need a whole bottle because I HATE the bad beginning. But I will try and pick up a few imps.

    Lulu

In the imp, Lulu smelt wonderful but on me, it seemed like she had some Ylang Ylang up her sleeve. On me, BPAL's Ylang Ylang = stagnant flower water stench. I am thinking it's the tobacco flower (the one I love in Dia), but this just does not work a little. The time has come for short last looks, my friend.

    Josie

I've sort of been in a BPAL funk. Pink Snowballs gave me hope, but this is true love. In the imp, it's more peach wine, but on the skin, the way edensixthday described it is perfect: The amazing thing is how the headiness of the magnolia keeps the juiciness of the peach from being too sweet, while the juiciness of the peach keeps the sweetness of the honey from being too sticky and cloying, and the warm, smooth flow of honey keeps the magnolia from being too heady. Throw is like wow and it lasts for at least 12 hours (about to go to bed now). This is definitely a bottle purchase.

    Pink Snowballs

For some reason, this was the scent I found most intriguing on the Yule list. Then I heard it was Snow White to the max and was so sad, because Snow White and I are not friends. Then I heard the rose was the rose in Rose Red, and I was sadder still, because Rose Red and I are even less friendly than Snow White. I bought a half-decant to test and unenthusiastically waved the magic wand on my wrist. Pink Snowballs...you have been the victim of slander! Those who claimed you were like Rapunzel and a pink cashmere cardigan--they had it right! You are not green. You are pink. Gentle. And you are lovely. Or maybe it's just that your rose amps on me. Because there is a whisper of Snow White that you muffle with your roseness. I may need a bottle, after all.

    Mother Shub's Toothsome Banketstaaf

Initially on me, this is a buttery fruity orchestra of scents, almost like Fruitcake. Nice throw and it lasts for a while...BUT after an hour morphs into nasty almond paste, which on me is like rancid toothpaste. EEK. No.

    Mlle. Lilith, Fortune Teller

On me, this is like Semiramis, but even better (and I really like Semiramis). The coconut and sugar make it sweeter and juicier, but it is the pomegranate/orange blossom combo that makes me love both scents. I am eternally grateful that it smells nothing like Mme. Moriarty on me, as that scent didn't work on me a little. Nor Smut. Throw and longevity above average. I absolutely love this scent, my absolute favorite of the Liliths. Except for the live one

    Cake Smash

In bottle: this is Beaver Moon 05's real emergence. No strawberry, just the exact scent Wet: Beaver Moon 05, how I love you still Dry: This must be Doc Constantine coming to visit. He has taken over the room (my arm). He has eaten all the cream cheese frosting off the cake. He has eaten all the cake!! And I am left with the smell of teak wood, with barely a whispered memory of the frosting. I want my icing back! I want my cake! I would take Dorian or Snake Oil, but not...this.

    Lilith vs. the Giant Crab

I think this will be my favorite of the three most recent Lilith selections. In the bottle and wet, it smells like pure orange creamsicle--mmmmmmm. Then it morphs into an aquatic (we are talking about a visit to the Aquarium, after all), but the orange cream plays quietly in the background. It is very unique and delicious...just like Lilith. Minimal throw and wear length.

    Hellion v2

I was sure I would love this. I mean, who can reject darkly spiced plum incense? Certainly not me. Now I will acknowledge my skin can be very odd. But on me, while I smell plum and wine, I also smell violet. Distinctly. Violet is not my friend. I am so glad I don't have to track a bottle of this down. I far prefer Hellion.

    Parker Lily

A dear friend sent me a tester of Parker Lily. One sniff and it was total love. The only way I can describe this is it's like a golden lily. There is a wisp of ambery honey and some straight vanilla and the combination is sophisticated without being sterile. It lasts for hours. I took a nap and it's still going strong. This is a scent I'd wear when I wanted to feel devastatingly, intoxicatingly female...which fortunately doesn't happen very often. Still, I'd love an imp of it just so I could know I could feel devastatingly, intoxicatingly female any time I wanted.

    Soothing System

I must echo angelicruin's Welch's Grape Soda diagnosis. I love to drink it, but not to wear it, so it won't be a purchase for me.

    Detestable Putrescence

In the imp and wet, this smells like Beaver Moon 05 to me. But sweeter and not in a good way (I love Beaver Moon 05). On my skin, Detestable Putrescence sadly turns to plastic and makes me kinda sick. All day and often, because the throw and scent longevity are phenomenal. I dealt it with it for one day for scientific reasons, but there won't be a second testing.

    Pumpkin V (2009)

Short review: OMG, YUM! Wet, this goes on as very coffee and pumpkin. But the chocolate sweetens it and makes it a very tasty perfume indeed...kinda like Jonathan's Coffee House at Halloween time (if you ordered pumpkin pie). This stays true for several hours and eventually morphs into a beautiful chocolate on me. Good throw, and amazing long-lastingness. This is a multi-bottle scent right here.

    Bite Me

I amp the almond on this one. It's very sweet and croquembouche-like, but not cakey. Sadly, Bite Me does nothing for me or my skin. I could sniff almond extract in the bottle.

    Boo

It may be because I use TKO so often, but I recognize Boo not as a relative of the sticky-sweet Marshmallow Poof but as the pure mallow from TKO. It is sweet, but not too sweet for me...in fact, it is soft and calming and relaxing. I may need two bottles of this--one for sleep when I don't want to be comatose all day and one for daily wear when I'm feeling stressed. Great throw, btw. I absolutely love this!!!!
  18. tarotgirl99

    Scurvy v1

In the bottle: Very strong lime alcohol. Uncut and unappealing. But. Sweet, creamy lime pie on my skin. Lickable. Enticing. I want to ingest my arm. Perfect for summer. I love this.

    How Doth the Little Crocodile

My experience was Spooky in the imp and wet (yummmmmm, thin mint cookies) to burnt pencil shavings when dry (not so savory).

    All In The Golden Afternoon

On me, seltzer and tobacco must morph into menthol. Aqua Velva-menthol. This is SUCH a masculine scent, imo, and not necessarily in a good way. In the way of a freshly shaved guy who has slathered himself in cologne before putting on a gold chain and a sansabelt and going to a disco kind of way. If I sniff closely, I can detect pineapple but then the menthol pushes itself into my sense of smell. I feel...somehow violated. Just remember--my skin is STRANGE.
  21. tarotgirl99

    Blackberry Jam & Scones

In the bottle, this is very scone-y. I smell flaky baked yeast. Wet, it is much more scone than jam on my skin. I tend to use a lot of jam when I eat scones, too...always want more, and it's true for this scent, too. The drydown really morphs on me. The blackberry jam keeps appearing and disappearing. The scone warms up my skin, too. This is very pretty, but on me (and my skin is weird)--not enough blackberry jam.
  22. tarotgirl99

    Citrinitas v4

Lemony sparkling ginger ale, in the bottle and wet. It's pretty but it's so faint on me!!! And it fades so quickly.
  23. tarotgirl99

    Rubedo v4

In the bottle: Rose and ferns Wet: Rose and ferns, the sequel. While I don't normally like green in my rose (Rose Red broke my heart), this smells so vivid I can see (and smell) the red roses and greens in a vase in my kitchen, when I'm first arranging them. You know, when they give off their strongest scent. Drydown: This does get sweeter, pinker, a bit more candylike. It's beautiful--hardly any throw and short wearlength. In some ways like Thanatos, but I like it more...it's beautiful and mysterious and compelling. I could not stop inhaling my wrist.

    The Host of the Air

Peat and rolling grass-covered hills, with wine-dappled heather, white clover, cloudberry, juniper berry, bluebell, dandelion, and cross-leaved heath. In the imp: Oh hai Heather! Your friend Dandelion is very nice, she shouldn't stand so far back. It's like she's hiding in the grass. Wet: Heather and grass and with a peep of other florals and the tiniest speck of peat. Dry: Mostly heather and greenness. VERY sweet and green, with lots of throw. This is very pleasant at first, but the longer I wear it, the less I like it, even though it's very cleverly blended. Prolly my dislike of green in general.

    Litha 2009

I didn't really like the original Litha and traded it away. But I was assured by a friend that this one was more pure honey and, as I'm a honey fanatic, I was intrigued. In the imp: Mostly golden honey with persistent, sharp and snippy parsley Wet: Mostly golden honey, but that sharpness sounds an annoying note to my sweet haze Drydown: The more it dries and the more time goes by, the sweeter Litha gets. After an hour or two, it's all good. Make that great. This scent reminds me of L'Estate. That's a good thing.
