An Incubus Leaving Two Sleeping Women

n the imp and initially on the skin, it's sharp, dry-stick seeming incense and musk. Google informs us that olibanum is frankincense and kurundu is cinnamon. Oh. Insert The More You Know graphic. Well, that would explain the incense....As this dries down, it's still very much staying "brown", a musky incense. Dry, a *beautiful* sweet vanilla starts coming through. Oh, yum. Would love it if it was more prominent, both in strength and showing up earlier. Not much throw at all when completely dry.

    The Green Apple Of Venus

In the imp, this is pure green apple Jolly Rancher. Wet, I definitely get the tea rose, which is adding a powdery note. Combined with the fruity sweetness, I'm getting an impression of bubblegum. After about an hour, it's a nice fruity blend, mainly strawberry and pom. Hour and a half, it's almost gone. So, eh. Nice enough on dry down, but really, I've got enough fruit blends that I love from beginning to end. So, think this one shall be added to the swaps.

Lick It Like You Mean It

I love the Lick It family. And it's one of the few scents that my husband can tolerate on me, so I pick up an imp every year. They've all been very true to description, just with varying degrees of the mint, sugar, and vanilla. So, in comparison, LILYMI is more mint, especially on first application. On dry down, it's still not as sweet and creamy as LIA, but still awesome.

    The Gorobble

About half of the reviewers mentioned a cinnamon note. I didn't get that at first, got sugary sweetness and a smoke/fire note, which then morphed into cinnamon. Then the whole thing turned into cinnamon/pink bubblegum. Yeah, not keeping this one.

    Velvet Pink Kitty

This is pink. Very pink. At first, you definitely get both the rock candy and cream pinks, but later it fades to a fluffy pink. There's some light booze notes; light as opposed to heavy wine notes. They're there, for sure. As always, I'm amazed at how BPAL manages to get "fizzy" to come across so well in a perfume. The booze backs off a little, so it's lovely pink fluff with a little bit of fizz. Lasted all day. Not too much throw.

    RPG Combos

Tried Good + Paladin yesterday. Was "perfumy" to start with and then morphed into cheap roses about ten minutes in. No idea where the rose was coming from. It finally dried down to a sweet "meh". Definitely think it would work better with the addition of another scent for some variety, although hoping the roses don't come back.

    RPG Combos

So, tried Chaotic + Elf this afternoon. After the initial burst of, aspen, I guess, it settled down to a musky, perfume-y mess. And it was *strong*. I'm thinking it was the amber combined with...something that said commercial perfume to me, but it was headache inducing. After about ten minutes it finally calmed down and now it's much closer to the skin. Musky, sweet, powdery, but still something that says "perfume" as opposed to "BPAL" to me. Love the individual scents, but this combo is not for me. ETA: Also tried the following today: Good + Elf: Oh, this is nice. I found Good to be too one dimensional to wear on its own, but Elf adds almost a spiciness to it. I'm getting whiffs of something like licorice. Definitely adds depth and complexity to it. Neutral + Elf: This is fantastic. Still getting the initial forest burst from Elf, but then the musk works beautifully with it. It's musky and sweet and sexy and woodsy, without being too masculine. ETA: I don't wear the RPG combos that often, and I've now found that Neutral Elf fades *very quickly* on me. I'll be removing it from my combo list.

Chaos Theory VI: Recursive Self-Similarity v7

#76 Unlike previous reviewers, I'm really not getting any bakery type vibes here. I am getting lots, and lots, of red wine. I can make out some spiciness mentioned before, but it's very subtle. I thought it may have just been my skin chemistry, but that's also what I smell in the imp.

Chaos Theory VI: Recursive Self-Similarity v5

    207. Spiced....melon? At first, it's a sharp, spiced green, no hint of amber. Not a "pie spice" type spice, something sharper, like pepper, but not pepper (at least, not that I'm familiar with). And then it morphs into a definite melon note, maybe honeydew? The amber finally comes out as it starts to dry down, and it's a very "perfumy" amber, as opposed to golden incense. The heavy perfume note eventually dies down. Very interesting, this one.

#102 here. In the imp, pure cheesecake. That's good, right? Even if I don't like it, lots of people like cheesecake. As soon as I put it on, poof, no more cheesecake. Takes a moment for any scent to come back, but then it's lotion. Just lotion. After a couple minutes, it turns into a nice, generic vanilla lotion. And then there's some nose tingling going on if I huff my wrists, like there's menthol or something in there, but that fades after a bit. And it goes back to a quiet, unassuming, vanilla lotion. Nice, but certainly not something I need to keep. This was a decant, and I'd love to see how the rest of the decants worked for other people.

Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues

I tried this yesterday. And started out as...well, green. How appropriate. And then it went to straight Irish Spring soap. Again, very appropriate. But not at all what I wanted to smell like. Off to the swaps it goes.

    Thirteen (13): July 2007

I'm in the minority that's getting florals. And I don't like florals. I'll try this again in a couple weeks to see if it's my cycle, but right now I'm quite disappointed.

    Snow-Flakes

I'm surprised I don't see Tulzscha mentioned in more reviews of this scent. To me, this is a lighter, less intense Tulzscha, which is one of my favorites scents. This is mint and cucumber and non-foody sweetness.

    The Perfumed Garden

The Perfumed Garden for the Soul’s Recreation. This scent is based on a venerable Tunisian perfume that was used to excite the senses, inspire sensuality and inflame passion. Myrrh and Moroccan jasmine with apple peel, Indian sandalwood, myrtle, quince, citron, and thyme poured over soft musk. (ahem) First hour: jasmine jasmine jasmine jasmine jasmine...... Second hour: jasmine jasmine jasmine, oh hey, something soft and sweet, can't tell what it is. Too little, too late. Off to the swap pile!

    Hollywood Babylon

This reminds me a lot of Lampades. I get a strawberry incense vibe from it. Despite Lampades being my favorite scent, HB really doesnt' do anything for me.

    Osun

This went to pure powder on me in the first five minutes. Had a lot of throw too (husband asked me to wash it off and I swear I can still smell it in the room).

    Brisingamen

I don't have much experience with amber, but this went to powder on me pretty quickly. Pretty powder, but powder none the less.

    The Lion

This is my first experience with amber, so please, be gentle. I wanted to like this from all the great reviews. On first application, it reminded me very strongly of Sudha Segara (the spices, maybe?) I never cared for Sudha Segara. As The Lion dried, it became spicier, but still wasn't anything I wanted to keep, and I never got any of the dry grassy impressions that other reviews mentioned. I passed it on to my fiance (who has my imp of Sudha as well).

    Delirium

I got a little apple and lemon on first application, but it immediatly morped to rose. A soft, utterly lovely rose. That stayed for hours. Truly a beautiful rose. I don't like smelling like rose. I can fully appreciate it's a great rose perfume, but it's not *me*. Even asked myself if it could be me and I've just been resisting florals all this time because I hadn't found the right one, and, nope, still not me. Oh, well. Kudos to the Lab for this scent, though.

    Fae

In the bottle and on very first application, I get yummy, bright fruits. It quickly settled down to a very strong floral powder with a lot of throw. After a couple hours, it became a nice, soft floral powder...which is not me at all. It was still going strong after three hours, at which point my fiance begged me to wash it off. Into the swap pile it goes!

    Baghdad

I'm not familiar with several of the listed notes, so I can only say in the bottle and on first application, it was a sharp, oriental scent. Within about a minute, it turned to pure powder. And there it stayed. This is the first scent with rose in it that I've tried, maybe that's it. One for the swap pile!

    Forbidden Fruit

Let me start by saying that I got this as a frimp in a swap, with part of the label taped over. So as I quickly (excitedly) try to read what it is, I get "orbid ruit". Which could be some diety or mythological character I'm not familiar with. However, I finally figure it out (go me). On first application, this is a very heavy, stinky, floral. I'm assuming lotus? It lasts this way for a good hour and a half, gradually decreasing in strength. Eventually some soft fruits similar to Kuang Shi come out. All in all, not a keeper for me.

    Hearth

As soon as I opened the plastic bag, never mind taking the tape off the imp and opening it, I got a blast of sweet nuttiness (no comments about my personality, please). When I did open the imp, I could pick up a little bit of pine underneath. Wet on the skin, the butter-toffee-nut continued. After a couple minutes, I AM THE MIGHTY PINE! So strong it made me jerk my head back and fear this may have to be swapped. But then it faded quickly and diappeared within ten minutes. Now it's still butter-toffee-nut, could almost be caramel corn. Very nice. And it *does* work lovely as a room scent, as the wand bounced out of the imp and scented some of the carpet.
  24. white_jenna63

    Freak Show

I'm not familiar with several of the notes, but I'll give it my best shot. In the imp, Freak Show was chocolate with a rich, red fruit (I'm assuming the pomegranate). Very nice. And it stayed that way for about the first five minutes on my wrists. Lovely! Then it started getting sweeter and "lighter", with the chocolate disappearing. Okay, I like vanilla and lemon, so we'll see how this goes. Within a half hour, it had turned to powdery old lady perfume on me. Burned all the way up the sinuses. It was so bad I had to wash my wrists. About three hours after that I did get a nice, light vanilla from whatever was left, but certainly not worth it. So, it got swapped for Hearth 2005, which is much better.

    Thirteen (13)

I'm new to scents, so I can't identify everything as well as I like. In the bottle and on first application, this is chocolate with a little orange. It would be lovely if it stayed that way. However, it dries down to a powdery chocolate, which is okay, but not great. I'll definatly use my gifted imp but I don't think I'll be getting a bottle.
