    The Red Queen

This very easily could be the perfect scent for me. Indeed, it has many of the components I listed in my "forum name" scent (which ism y ideal scent). Sadly however... part of those "rich, velvety woods" includes sandalwood and/or cedar which almost never fails to take over and ruin a blend for me. There are a handful of scents w/ sandalwood in them that work, but I think it's because there are a plethora of other notes to "Get in the way". Here, sandalwood is a main player and pushes everyone else off the stage... In Bottle: Cherries! But darkened w/ current a hint of something I can't identify... I'm guessing the mahogany. On Skin: The cherries rise up at first, but then very quickly fade away to leave the sharp, dry pencil shaving scent of sandalwood. Ah, you nemesis you. Dry: Same. Dry, pencil shaving sandalwood. There is no getting around this one, and for me, none of the complex elegance I was hoping for. Overall: While my intial impression was lovely, the sandalwood amps too much and this is not to be.

The secret Old Spice lovers club!

Yea my for sale list is woefully out of date. I do have plans on updating it soon(NOTE: since "soon" could be anything from this weekend to next month) but if there's anything on there now that you're interested in, let me know. Either way, send me a PM

The secret Old Spice lovers club!

Yea, that might've been my review...I was just about to come here and say so when I read this But really, both Pirate Moon and The Phoenix EXUDE "Old Spice Lime" on me. I'm not giving up hope for them yet, as I'm personally hoping it's a time of month and/or the lotion I put on underneath it (realized this AFTER the review)...but I'd be willing to decant you an imp to see how you feel about it.

I though, at first smelling this, my nose was perhaps very unrefined, since i had a hard time picking out notes and all this made me think of was "Dorian". I'm almost glad to see then, that I'm not the only one who gets that impression. In Bottle: I get light florals and citrus, with a base of vanilla underneath. Somehow soft and sharp at the same time. On Skin: Immediately all I can think is a "younger", less complicated Dorian. This lacks the sugared tea which smooths out dorian and gives it it's elegant feel. If one were to personify, this would be the younger, less experienced brother of Dorian... sharp around the edges and not nearly as refined. Dry: The florals are all but gone and/or melded with other notes, not able to be picked out. The citrus prevails with bergamont v. evident (I like this) and again, the vanilla sits softly underneath it all...preventing the citrus from burning the nose, but not overwhelming. Overall: Sharp and soft all at the same time, lacking the subtly of Dorian... but still a pretty blend of citrus and vanilla. I'm liking this more and more as the day goes on (and hoping my burgeoning headache has nothing to do with this). The throw is moderate, but lasting power, as most citrus' on me, is low.

    Golden Priapus

*grins* I got this from harmonyfb, so it's amusing that my review is below hers. In the bottle I smell pine and juniper and little else. I put this on boy instead of myself, just for S&Gs...on him, the juniper and pine take a back seat as the vanilla, a warm amber-vanilla, comes out... however, this blend does little else in the sense of blending... even upon final drydown all I get on him was sharp pine and vanilla, distinct and seperate, and honestly, these are not two smells that I think go together well.

    Midnight Kiss

Ooh, this is so lovely. In the bottle it's a rich mixture of dry cocoa (think cocoa powder, not chocolate), dusky red musk and blood wine... I didn't think I could smell wine, but I absolutely can! On my skin,it morphs so much I don't know if I can describe it all... Wet: it stays similar to the bottle, with the wine note fading and becoming a slight hint of berry behind the cocoa and musk. The amber starts to peek through as welll as the sandalwood. Drying: During drydown the sandalwood takes over and does what sandalwood ALWAYS does on me: pencil shavings, maskign everything else. The good news is this is only a phase, with the sandalwood taking a backseat upon finally drying. Dry: Once completely dry, the amber is evident, blending almost seamlessly with the sandalwood to create a lovely warm "dusky" base which also melds with the red musk. The red musk does take center stage though, but you can definetely get whifs of the sandalwood/amber combination. The cocoa isn't gone, and comes up here in there.... Overall: Amazingly complex, everytime I think i have this pegged, it changes. But overall it's dark, musky seductive blend that is not for the weak and is the perfect nighttime scent.

    Pirate Moon

I don't know why but I get Old Spice w/ Lime from this. In the bottle, it's a pleasant aquatic mens cologne, with hints of lime ...but on me, I can't even bring out individual notes, just the overwhelming scent of Old Spice + Lime. The Phoenix did the same thing to me though, so this may be peculiar skin chemistry thing. I'm going to hold off getting rid of this, try it again in a week or so... and add to this review if necessary but I did want to get these thoughts out before I forgot about them and/or in case anyone else gets the same result and t's not just me.

    Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple

So excited to get this! In Bottle: Immediately, this blend delivers... pure caramel apple... like others, I get bright red juicy apple slathered in caramel w/ a hint of cinnamon. The boy smelled teh cinnamon more strongly than I. On Skin Wet: Luckily, nothing changes. Caramel has a tendency to amp on me and turn hazelnutty.....but not here - still pure, lovely, caramel apple, although the caramel note is a bit more prominent and the cinnamon dissapears to a whisper. Dry: Caramel continues to strengthen, the cinnamon is gone and the apple is less prominent than it was, but theres still enough "juicy" freshness to prevent it from being pure caramel. Overall: Pure caramel apple. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm going to love this for the rest of fall... Throw: moderate Lasting Power: Slightly less than moderate

    October

Again with the mens cologne over here, but not in a bad way. In fact that wasn't even my initial impression, but upon reading the many reactions to it, I realize that what I was smelling identifies. In the bottle this is all wet grasses, moss and a touch of aquatics. I'm rather fond of all those scents, even if they can tend to give me headaches, so I was happy... Initially on skin, it maintains it's wet grass/aquatic smell. It's not just wet, fresh grass, but something a little darker and aquatics...I'm thinking mosses, but not like algae, if that makes sense. Drying, this doesn't change much and I kept get whiffs of it on the drive in to work.. not bad... BUT Strangely, upon final dry down I get the same thing angaharad above me does... pencil shavings... which means there's sandalwood, or some sandalwood-like component in this, which makes me glad I didn't get a bottle. I don't know why, but BPAL sandalwood ALWAYS turns to pencil shavings on me... ever other sandalwood is nice and mellow and pretty, but not this. Damnit, I really had high hopes for this.

    Samhain

2007: This is a very peculiar blend, smelling nothing like I thought it would, and no traces of the notes listed... but still appropriate for the season. In Bottle: Spicy sweetness. There are no individual components coming out (although perhaps I should try again on a day when I don't have a massive sinus headache?) and something in burning my nose On Skin Wet: Sugar Skull. Seriously, all I can smell is sugared fruits and carmalized sugar that is indicative of sugar skull (which I love, so it wasn't bad, but not what expected) On Skin Dry: The sugar tamps down, and there's the spice again...still nothing I can identify, it mellows out to spicy sweetness like in the bottle, but w/ less kick. There's also a weird menthol note coming through that doesn't blend well w/ the others. Thankfully, it's fainty. Overall: Spicy Sugar Skull. There's no other way to put it. It's nice, but def. not what I expected and I'm glad I only got a decant to be honest. Although it IS evocative of fall, it's not the precise image I imagined. Where's the pumpkin, the apple, the patchouli?? I get none of these here. Ah well.

    Pumpkin Smash

Bottle: Buttered Pumpkin. Nothing but. Wet on skin: Fruity(!?), still buttery pumkpin, and smokey something I can't place Drydown: The fruitness disappears as it dries, becoming smoky buttered pumpkin and something acrid and sharp-probably the asphalt. Overall: Not what I expected, nor did I expect to like it, but still not quite for me.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Ok, so I'm still a bit stupid when it comes to Excel. Is it possible to merge a spreadsheet (i.e. the updated one hackess just posted) into an existing one? And if so, how? Because I have a spreadsheet that's been customized to include my own notes, reviews, what's being swapped, etc... and while I want the updated oils, don't really want to have to redo all that other work. Any of you Excel gurus have any ideas, tips, hints?

    Libra 2007

I'm loving this so far, which is peculiar since I'm an Aries, and actually *hated* my sign blend... In Bottle/Wet: Fruity punch, with a touch of something underneath that I can't quite describe... On Skin: Immediately it's still fruit punch, although the cherry is starting to dominate. There's a bit of a herbal/floral note underneath, right after you smell the fruits; I'm thinking this is a mixture of the rose/carnation along with the earthiness of fig Drydown: Interstingly, once dry the fruits, even the cherry are mostly gone and this is a rose dominated scent. I love BPAL's rose (when prior to BPAL I HATED rose in perfumes) which is good because it seems to amp likeWHOA. Overall I get a dry rose scent, with bits of creaminess from the fig and nothing from any of the fruits. Not quite what I thought or hoped it would turn out, but pretty nonetheless.

    Crypt Queen

Whilst I was just bemoaning I missed out on Crypt Queen, a kind forumite swapped me it. So here goes: In Bottle/Wet: Is reminiscent of juicy, wet, "red" fruits... berries, and blood red juices, with a hint of earthy patchouli underneath. I couldn't help but make a comparasion to the fresh, wet red blood of life, but with the hint and promise of decay simmering underneath. On Skin/Dry Down: The morphs down into a beautiful, but subtle "dusty" scent of musky dry woods, and dried florals. The florals are reminsicent of fall (to me, anyway) and it all blends together nicely, while each component still gets it's due. Overall Effect: I agree with others that the throw is moderate at best, and despite the patchouli, seems to fade easily. Still, I am quickly becoming enamored with her. While some BPAL blends evoke imagery in me, others do nothing more then smell nice on me. Crypt Queen however quickly embraces one and captivates not only with her scent, but her meaning as well. Definitely will be using this for creativity purposes. Am SO glad I was able to get a hold of her.

    Velvet

In the bottle, all I smell is cocoa vanilla. This is a good sign for me as sandalwood tends to go nuts on my skin. Not smelling it in the bottle means it may not be strong on me. On skin: Still cocoa, but not so much a cocoa vanilla as just a smooth "milk chocolate" scent. Similar, but different. There's also a waft of sandalwood, which seems to be completely seperate from the chocolate. Hard to describe, but the two aren't blended at all, rather I get a waft of milk chocolate, and then a seperate scent of sandalwood. The sandalwood is threatening to become strong and pencil shaving like...but upon dry down it settles into the soft sandalwood smell that I adore, but can rarely get on my skin. This is the very first scent so far from BPAL w/ sandalwood in it, wherein it doesn't take over and smell like pencil shavings, or worse on me. I was always sad that for some reason BPALs sandalwood didn't like my skin, but finally something works. Throughout the day I get sniffs of chocolate and soft sandalwood, again, the two don't seem to blend, but come seperately, complimenting each other. I was surprised also with the lasting power on this. The throw wasn't great (had to be close to me to smell it, and I couldnt' smell it unless I put my arm to my nose) but it was still evident to some degree on me after being on for 6 hours.

    Thirteen (13): July 2007

I'm sort of not supposed to be on the forums right now, due to time and energy constraints, but could not resist reviewing this today... since this 13 has turned out to be both lucky and unlucky, and the most magical of them all. This was NOT supposed to work on me. Clove and Honey, in ANY amounts amp on me. Clove amps like mad, and honey turns into baby powder.... for that reason, I only got a decant... and now I am mournful, because for some reason, both clove and honey behaved themselves. In Bottle: Fruity Wet Cocoa. YUM. I can get whiffs of the peach and starfruit, but can't tell whether the chocolate is white or milk. On Skin: A drier cocoa smell, and more fruity. A hint of floral and spice (the ginger) comes through on occasion. There is a HINT of powder, which is undoubtedly from the honey. While I normally despise this powdery smell, it is morphed from it's usual form and subdued, so that not only can I stand it, I kind of like it. Dry down: Same as before but more faint. I can tell this will not have a great lasting power or throw, but is average. Overall: OMFG, I need a bottle.

What to wear to a rock show?

This may or may not help, as it's a slightly different situation, but whenever I go out to my "goth" club (which is rare nowadays) I usually wear either: Whip(w/ a touch extra of De Sade), Smut, Sin, or Dorian. Probably b/c of the musk, but all of these scents smell great on me throughout the night, to the end, maintaining through smoke, (including clove smoke), sweat (and mine is quite acidic), leather, and whatever else the night throws at me. I always get a multiude of compliments through the night, so even through the smoke, and stench of the crowd, the scent of these blends maintains, and doesn't morph.

I want to smell like Kauai

I had this idea as well... perhaps misk U and Pele? Oh maybe even Pele alone. Minus the coffee note, Enraged Orangutang Musk (Forum Only LE unfortunetly) and/or [ele may have that green, tropical scent you want. Perhaps, mixing one of those w/ Mata Hari? Which has a touch of coffee, but also florals - unlike Misk U, and will clash less w/ the other scents? Also, based on the description, I for one would LOVE to see this place have it's own scent in Wanderlust. Perhaps you should put it in the suggestions thread as well

    Tiger Lily

got this as a frimp from the lab and hadn't even looked up the description until after I wore it... In bottle: Sharp but sweet florals. I've smelled lilies once and this is similar to what I remember. On skin: Soft, feminine, powdery warm floral scent. Dry: Same. Little morphing. Throw is medium Objectively, it is a pretty scent, and I usually intensely dislike powder-y scents. I didn't realize there was honey in this, and that is a major deal-breaker for me. Always, always, always turns to powder on me. But while it's not a scent for me personally, I can see how others would love it.
  20. But now I want to know what you ordered!

    Scherezade

I can't believe I've never reviewed this before as it's one of my favorites, but it's so complex, it's hard to describe. In Bottle: Red. Musk. Mostly this, w/ what I think is amber coming through and an overall "Spicey" smell, but nothing discernible. On Skin: I've heard others say there's patchouli in this, but I'm not smelling any (thankfully,as it amps on me) Again, strongly red musk, but with a creamy, warm quality to it...saffron definitely comes through, as well as cinnamon and again, a plethora of spices that I can't name but are just, "spice" Dry: Warm, creamy spicey musk. Pure and simple, but not. This is so complex I can't pick out individual notes, but it smells DIVINE. Whenever I wear this, I get looks from boys...no matter what I look like.
  22. In response to Extispex Dorian. DorianDorianDorianDorian. Most. Beautiful. Scent. EVER. or maybe that's just me Seriously though, the musk and tea tamp down the vanilla sugar, so it's a complex, musky warm sugar scent that's not really "sugar cookie" to me, but absolutely warm and gorgeous. Also, one of the "13" blends..although they smell like orange chocolate shortbread in the bottle, it turns out to be creamy vanilla orange on my skin. When I want to smell "Sweet" I'm a big fan of scents with fig in them... Eden is an especial favorite of mine... a touch of creamy coconut, warm fig and a bit of greeness. Maybe not "foody" but sweet, w/out being "bakery fresh" I see you mentioned fig as well, so I say definitely try Eden. I'll also second Tezcatlipoca , but that's based solely on the description. Haven't tried it myself yet (though I want to)
  23. Others may have said this but *Musk*. Musk is the ESSENCE of sexy, in my book. (andon a biological level, it really is) Others have mentioned Dorian and I'll back that up. There are so many musks too,....red, white, black, skin... that you should find one that suits you. I'd try a few scents with musk in them.

    Anathema

In imp/wet: Slightly spicey, sharp and slightly sweet. It induced an instant sinus headache On Skin wet: Still sharp with more sweetness, and a muted floral quality. I swear there's still a hint of spice (I'm so weird) On Skin dry: Still sweet and the generic "floral" that was present wet, has become ZOMG!Honeysuckle! and I hate it. There's a hint of muskyness that might save it, but the honeysuckle overpowers, and there's a touch of powdery-ness to it. The "spice" note I was getting is gone. Throw: Low/Moderate. After about hour, I could catch whiffs of it occasionally, but otherwise had to be close to where I applied it to smell. Overall: I can see how others may like this (really!) but it's more head-ache inducing for me.
