Chaos Theory IV: Edge of Chaos

MCLXXXIV - 1184 - Coffee, booze, and butter Mack got on his hind legs and started crazy sniffing. Then he started crazy sneezing. I brought this bottle to one of my friends who took the initial sniff and backed off wicked fast. When it was my turn, the first thing that came out of my mouth was those four words - coffee, booze and butter. The longer I sniffed it, I got tobacco leaf. Out of the bottle, it's a toffee colored liquid. On me, I still get that same four notes, only now the tobacco jumps out and the butter slides away. Coffee, booze, tobacco. Maybe leather or old paper. This is a guy scent. Not so much that it should go on a guy but I keep thinking of a guy as I smell it. I don't even think I know anyone who smells of these things but. Mack wants nothing to do with it, but then again, he's shy of guys. MCXCVI - 1196 - Candy flowers After 1184, this was a total yin-yang contrast. In the bottle, it's light, sweet, floral. The more I inhale, the more I get citrus, but only in the wayyyyyyyy back. The sweet scent is the same sort of sweet that Lady MacBeth has in it. It is clear on me and as soon as it's on, the sweet comes out and the floral falls away. Pineapple, but not. It's like the end of summer, when all the stone fruit start to ripen and the flowers are fading. Like I said, these are total yin and yang. 1184 I'd wear when I want my masculine characteristitcs to come out and I don't want strangers to take a fancy to me. 1196 I'd wear to kick up my girly side and make new friends. 1196 is instantly attractive. 1184 keeps people on their toes and think twice about me.

    Delirium

Flowers, flowers everywhere! It was floral in the bottle and after a bit of drying on my skin it was like Miracle Grow. Lilies, roses and other flowers that are bright, bouncy and for a lack of a better word, juicy. All day I felt like Ophelia - gone mad flower-pickin'.

    Black Opal

I'm on the hunt for my scent and I think this is a close tie with Djinn and Delirium for me . I get vanilla and something burning at first. I love smoke scents so this was a happy surprise. After the wearing and drying, the burning fades to a musky smell and the vanilla hides backstage. It's just so creamy-smoldery. Mack loves it. He keeps snuggling up and sniffing where it's slathered and fortunately not trying to lick. We'll see how it holds out for the rest of the night.

    Melpomene

Wet and in the bottle - cypress and lavender with a smidge of mint. On me - cypress with floral notes. It's not as ... strong as it is in the bottle. It's nice but not as 'tough' a scent as I like. Mack? Mack will lick all around my hand and -around- this. He's not put off like he was with Death but this is not delicious to the dog.

    Death on a Pale Horse

This is a sharp one. A really sharp sandalwood. I generally don't like patchoulli, so I'm thankful I can't find it on my skin. I get all the other green scents with little to no musk as well. Mack? Mack hates it. One sniff and he was across the room. We'll see how the rest of the day goes. */*/*Edit for staying power Within an hour it seemed to be gone from my wrists. It hung out pretty hardcore, though, on my neck and what stuck around was a sharp musk smell with green hints. Mack still is not interested in it, which is good in my book. Everyone at work loved it. I just wish it wanted to hang around me more. Heh.

    The Scales of Deprivation

I have to agree. This is a guy's scent I'd steal and slather. In the imp I can smell the lemon and the sage first and precious little else. On me it's a hint of floral, but mostly clear, clean. Not quite clear and clean like Tempest is, but not overwhelming and heavy compared to the first two horsemen. What does Mack think? Mack could care less. Two to three sniffs and his head is back. He doesn't even care enough to sneeze. **Edit for staying power update** It's now just shy of 24 hours since I put this on. I sniff my wrist and it's still there. Less the lemon and more the sandalwood, which I have a great big red heart for. I -really- wanted to love the Great Sword of War, shallowly, because of Good Omens, but Scales are winning.

    The Great Sword of War

In the imp it goes juicy-chocolate-herby; just in that order. The chocolate, orange and other herbs tend to stick around on me. I'm guessing what held on the most was the tobacco leaf, but I can't be sure. This was -strong- though. I put some on, sniffed, then thought I needed more. This was a mistake. What does Mack think? Mack sniffed and sniffed and then snorted when it was wet on my skin. When I came home from work, he changed his mind. It was sniff, sniff, oh-let-me-lick!

The Bow & Crown of Conquest

I got samples of all four to find out which of the horsemen I am. It's fun experiment for the week. Starting in order of appearance: Vanilla. I nearly jammed my nose into the imp to find the leather. I must be ill or I just can't smell leather in liquid form. Heh. On me, it's vanilla, sharp florals and there, hiding in back is the leather. Now, does Mack like it? http://www.weblogimages.com/v.p?uid=ksprit...&sid=bns00dMST1 This is Mack Mack is fairly picky. Stuff he likes he'll try to lick off me before I leave the house. Stuff he does not he sneezes at and douses my arm with dog snot. He gave it quick sniffs and then turned his nose up at it while it was still wet. Once it dried down about an hour later, he thought about licking it off. At first I was really unsure about it. It's nice but it's not me. I'm not against it but it won't go into heavy rotation.

    Hellfire

I bought this in hopes that it would help me forget that Noir is gone. *sniffle* Anyway... I love smokey notes and that's the first thing that hits me in the bottle. On me, the smoke fades a little and it's boozy on top. After a while, the inscence starts to pop out. It's not Noir but it'll most assuredly do.

    Whitechapel

Why is it that all the freebies I get are just beyond awesome? Heh. I wear Embalming Fluid to death. So much so that people smell it and say "Erin". This has such a wake up in it that I'm afraid that I'll have to replace Embalming Fluid in the rotation. There is a clear citrus note in the bottle. It pops out over top everything else. On my skin right way, the citrus starts to hide and the florals pop out. The citrus moves to the after note. It's very clean and ... ok, pretty. I hate using the word pretty but that's what it is.

    Lilith

I could smell as soon as I opened it something sweet but I could not place it until it hit my skin and I briskly rubbed my wrists together. The heat made a wild flower honey scent pop out and hangs out strong over anything floral. I'm not drowinging in it but everyone has said that I smell like wild honey.

    Cobra Lily

In the bottle : Sweet, fruity and floral. I get the same orange and lily scent that others are picking up. On the skin: The lily pops out more and the sweet mellows into a nice accent. I'm with the order a big bottle group. I didn't know I could tollerate lily.

    Ultraviolet

Let me say this alone; UltraViolet saved my budding relationship. My beau had moved into a house and into the basement. I don't know what is living down there - mold or some other fungus - but there were times I couldn't stay there for even a few hours without falling into sneezing fits. I was miserable and he was feeling bad. One night, on a whim, I decided to wear Ultraviolet on my pulse points on my neck before heading over. In the bottle: Good -morning-! This is a scent that I open on the days I just can't get going. The days that I need help to find the coffee maker. Eucalyptus, then mint, then florals hit me in a three punch combo. When I first got the bottle, I didn't think I'd be able to wear it and would have to use it in that morning wake up sense. On the skin: At first, it's pretty much the same thing as in the bottle and it does clear my head, both in the olfactory sense and the mental clarity sense. I can breathe and I remember how to make coffee. At seven in the morning, that's no small feat. Dry down: My skin chemistry starts to settle the scent after about twenty minutes or so. Everything blends in subtly, but you can still pick notes. My guy did a double sniff as I walked past and said "Eucalyptus....mint.... something pretty?" This is one I have to use with prudence. A little goes a -long- way. If I overdo it, I'm wearing it from morning til the next shower. Here's the good news, though. When I wear Ultraviolet, I don't sneeze. This stuff is better than Sudafed and if my loved ones really love me - hint, hint - they'll purchase me a big bottle of this on my birthday or holiday.

    Jabberwocky

One of my order surprises, this one is definitely a surprise. From the description, I thought it was one I could pass over. Pine? Eh. Not so much, thanks. Then I popped it open. In the bottle: I can pick out every note in the description. Pine, eucalyptus mostly and the orange is the last note that hits me. Bliss! This one might be able to join UltraViolet in my "I feel sick/tired/like crud and I need healing" group. On the skin: The strongness in the bottle fades within minutes and I'm left with a clean scent. I forgot what earthy things do on me. I must be a recycling center or something like that because my skin 'cleans' up the 'earth'. It's the smell of a pine forest after a rain storm. Everything is polished and you can see for miles with a tiny hint of soap. It's so tiny, though I have to work for it in every sniff. Dry down: The woods are waking up. The orange and pine and sneaking back in and warming up while the eucalyptus is sneaking out the back. This isn't in my UltraViolet group but it works for when I'm just not feeling myself and need a pick me up - like a coffee day instead of a Depth Charge day.

    All Saints'

2005 Version In the bottle: When I got the order, I was stuffed up to no end, so I had to pass off the bottle to a co-worker to test sniff. "Church", said the Latin mass-going-Catholic. Boy, was she right. When I got my senses back, I was immediately reminded of the time I was celebrating the Easter midnight Vigil. All of the sudden, I was twelve again, standing in a small, dimly lit church next to Father as he starts to swing the incense burner. There is another scent in there that's a touch sweet and with another sniff it's striking me more and more that it's the rose. On the skin: Florals - namely rose - and those incense-spicy smells. I'm not super scent sensitive, as in getting headaches and the like, but it does happen, much to my chagrin. This one works out, thankfully. It's not too 'loud'. I can smell it but I'm not suffering for it. Dry down: I lose some of the florals and I'm back in church.
