    Bat

Ohhhh, pretty. Another fresh CLEAN floral. Again without the ozone or aquatics. Another great scent for anytime or anybody. And may I say, that's a mighty plump Bat Albrecht Durer painted. I like how you can see the genitalia

    The Smiling Spider

Clove and patchouli being featured in this, I should hate it. Not that I don't like clove but it can really, really overwhelm. But this is clove entangled with a musk that makes for a warm and sort of cozy feel.

    Love and Pain

This is dark. A dark, brooding herbal. Herbals don't ususally mean dark to me. I don't know what to make of this. It's an odd scent. I'm anxious to see what others get.

    Schlafende Baigneuse

Another beautiful, lovely floral in Salon III. Just a touch sweet. This also seems to have a bit of the "clean" without being aquatic or ozonic. This should work for a lot of people.

    Monna Vanna

A lush, dare I say royal, perfume. This reminds me of the best of the best traditional French floral perfumes. So many of these notes would play the Diva. You'd figure they'd all be trying to steal the spotlight. but actually I get a fabulous woman's perfume. I love this wholeheartedly. THIS would be the scent I'd get that Sub Rosa perfume topper for. Or splurge on an antique glass bottle.

    Madonna

Well now, this has several notes that are Heavenlyrabbit Balm. Like Hyssop, pomegranate, orchid and frankincense. What I get is a clean floral. Clean without being ozonic or aquatic. Which seems to work with the subject matter of the painting. But is sort of an unusual connotation for any perfume having orchid in it (cause orchids wear a bit sexy to me). There is the herbal side to this. And to a lesser extent, the incense resin. Can't find the patchouli. Or the pomegranate. A nice, friendly and approachable floral. Honestly, this doesn't move me the way I anticipated though.

Cleopatra Testing Poisons on Those Condemned to Death

Funny, I get chocolate too. And I'm not reading components while trying these either. Maybe it's the bitter almond (which I usually abhor) with the sweet honey and palm? The incense resins are definately here. And stuff that doesn't seem at all familiar. This is a deep, dark scent I can definately imagine wearing around. I can also imagine this getting some strong reactions from others around me. Untraditional perfume in the modern sense. But somehow it does fit the ancient subject matter quite well. On complete dry down, I get Honey. Single note honey. It lasts and lasts. So pretty. Edit to enthuse over this a bit. In between the wet "chocolate" stage and the dry "honey" I get a gorgeous light floral. Sad I sold my Imp. Doubt I'd ever use an entire bottle. And on further consideration, to compare this with a BPAL scent, I'd have to go for Love Lies Bleeding.

    Philosopher in Meditation

Abramelin incense comes in one of two varieties- the Biblical and the newer Thelemic. The Thelemic/Crowley being VERY full of cinnamon fire. This would be the older variety, thank goodness. Along with Galen's Kyphi which (for the fun of it) is as follows: Raisins, wine, honey, asphaltum, bdellium, camel grass, sweet flag, cyperus tuber, saffron, spikenard, aspalathos, cardamom, and cassia. Perfect for when I'm studying and doing ritual work. Also perfect for any other occassion I can think of. A perfect compliment to another of my favorite BPALs Tzadikim Nistarim & Anubis. This being the "fruity" incense blend. Upon dry down the raisins, wine and honey becme quite pronounced on me. Almost reminding me of Rugelah. Maybe we can think of this as the Monastic version of Cockaigne.

    Mad Meg

This goes so terribly wrong with my skin chemistry. It contains SEVERAL Heavenlyrabbit Bane Notes: Cinnamon, Bitter Almond, Sage. And although BPAL has done the miraculous and presented me with some options for patchouli and vetiver, this is emphatically not one of them. However, with those who can handle such dark scents, this should be a winner. Sigh, wish this wasn't the first of the new Salon scents I'd tried. Off to scrub my hand.

One to Tie, Two to Win

My review will be to simply wish Beth would work something very similiar into the General Catalog. Or to do some more LE's in the same vein as this. I've got a bottle but could definately go through this in one growing season. This smells like being outdoors and getting ready for brunch, al fresco. Setting up the table out on the lawn. No food insight yet. A fresh daytime smell. I think there's a hint of ozone noone else has mentioned. maybe I am imagining it.

    Riding the Goat

I get something akin to a laid back Red Lantern mixed with a men's cologne circa 1920. Perfection. But then, I love the components and they love me.

    Pinched With Four Aces

So I took a gamble with picking this scent from Dogs Playing Poker series and it paid off big time. I had two other definite "Dog" scents on my To Get List and wanted a third. Distressed that my decants hadn't arrived (probably held up with an order suffering from the Bloody Mary component issue), I read the descriptions, held my breath and went for Pinched W/ Four Aces. Cinnamon hates me. But it is perfect here. Coffee smells wonderful on me, but Miskatonic U. lasts for a brief few seconds. Here it lingers. Tobacco can be somewhat heavy and ponderous but here it's just atmospheric. If only I'd known, this would have been a two bottle order (rare for me) cause this is close to being "Signature Scent" worthy. The overall impression I get from this is stimulating conversation, late into the evening with old friends and a prospective beau thrown in for good measure.

    Taurus 2007

Taurus- somewheres in Ancient Greece or thereabouts, girls in long white dresses are draping wreaths of flowers around the neck of a young bull. What makes this exceptional for me is the mint. This is a somewhat light, fresh floral and what keeps the freshness is that light touch of mint.
  14. Heavenlyrabbit

    Poisson d'Avril

From this scent I get a picture of a character in some Dickens novel. A young woman who's a street vender selling bunches of her posies to passersby. Gentle, sweet little florals.

    Monster Bait: Bloody Mary

Ecstacy in a bottle. Nothing else like it in BPAL. Nothing to compare it to. Okay, take Mosterbait Closet and swap out the berry for cherry. It's that good. I've been selling off my LE duplicates to pay for acupuncture and cause there're too many bottles in my sphere of being right now. But this one scent has me in a tizzy. Am ordering another from the Lab tonight. Really impressed the heck out of me. Edit to include two more words: CHERRY CHEESECAKE
  16. Heavenlyrabbit

    Monster Bait: Tokyo Stomp

Smooth Vanilla Mint as Godzilla. Doesn't make sense to me but in the most whimsical way. It certainly kicks Lick It's candy cane butt.
  17. Heavenlyrabbit

    Monster Bait: Ventriloquist Dummy

Apricot-Butterscotch hard candy in the bottle. On me, the woods are VERY much to the fore. I guess a V.Dummy is made of wood, yes?
  18. Heavenlyrabbit

    Minotaur

An ancient sort of scent. Resin that will only improve with age.
  19. Heavenlyrabbit

    Milk Moon 2007

On me, this is "Fig". Not that I don't detect other notes, but they combine to form an Uber-Fig scent. I also smell something reminiscent of Rugelah.
  20. Since funds are limited for you, perhaps track down a sniffie of Cottonmouth. It's one of the most agreeable florals I've ever had the pleasure to wear. Coral Snake is a 'citrus' fruit and also wears very well. I would be somewhat wary of Australian Copperhead. The fruit note in that is very distinctive.
  21. Heavenlyrabbit

    Squirting Cucumber

Was hoping for the grassy notes. What I get is the Cucumber. More to the point, this smells like Raita (Indian cuke/yogurt dish) to me.
  22. Heavenlyrabbit

    Ostara

Ostarta is an Odilon Redon painting. And I don't know why this scent makes me think of Redon's paintings. Perhaps because it's such a nice, colorful blend of scents in soft focus with a classical feel to it. Which one of his painting does this remind of in particular? Probably Mystery (as seen below).
  23. Heavenlyrabbit

    Pink Moon 2007

I get something minty. What the heck is that all about?

    51

And this is to die for. Sweet without being cloying. Fruity without being artificial. Floral without being head inducing. Just a wee bit of tartness. Some wood notes thrown in there for reference, so I don't get lost. Perfection. A complex yet well blended perfume. At turns I can pick out this scent or that, but mainly its just a divine fragrance.

    Fire Pig

Fire Pig is beautiful bunches of fruit stacked neatly into piles in front of the Ancestors' shrine. There are also some flowers there, but mainly the smell of fruit.
