This blend comes across very bayrum heavy to my nose, although that could just be because I dont generally like any rum scents XP. I do get a decent amount of champaca as well, but it really is in the backseat to the sweet/warm rum note. Sadly, the leather and vanilla in the blend only seem to make the rum note richer and sweeter, as opposed to being another layer to the scent. Overall, this is just a bit too close to a typical bayrum aftershave scent for my personal likings, but like I said, I am really sensitive to any rum notes.
  2. One that seems to age into a close scent, if a bit warmer, is chimera. For the first month or 2 it seems to go on as a fairly strong cinnamon bark scent, that mellows nicely to a warm honey/amber like scent. (myrrh and honeysuckle?). After that 2 month mark though, it morphs into a nice spicy honey amber, straight from the bottle, and melds into the skin as an intimate, warm creamy spice.

I agree with Cfrancesca about the dirty matcha scent when first applied. After the green tea fades a bit I am left with a very well blended woody scent. As I sniff it, its actually really ambiguous to me. Just soft woods, and a really really mild patchouli. I would like to own a # of that patchouli, lol. Throughout the dry down it pretty much stays the same (after the green-ness fades) and keeps to the calm and soft woods spiked with patch. Although, every once in awhile I will get a strong whiff of rose, frankincense, and champaca that is a little too perfumy for my liking. Overall, this scent is blended amazingly though, and I think will be well liked by anyone that tends to like traditional perfumes. Btw, I dont get any leather at all from this blend on my skin. Its all woodsy, patch and perfumey floral/incense, with a matcha opener.

    Scent for Halloween?

I think I'm in a Dorian rut. Thats really all I've been wearing outside of days that I'm testing new scents. Its just so easy to grab for. Although I might switch back over to Banshee Beat since its starting to get really cold, and BB is a bit darker. Ooh, or maybe Chimera! I forgot how much I love that blend. Especially the proto. Its like a snakeoil-y chimera fusion. Very good.

    Halloween 2011 Must Haves!

My personal faves wound up being Muse of the night, The Nightmare, Sentimental Initiation, The Seekim, and The Ta-ta. Muse was a surprise for me, as I really dont like rose, jasmine, or ylangylang. But luckily for me, none of those came out. It was just light resins and benzoin/vanilla. Nightmare was a fresh fruit=y scent with a gummy quality, and also wasnt floral-heavy on me. The others smelled as I thought they would, so werent really surprises The Gorroble and the Wiley grasser were a bit of a disappointment to me. I did smell the notes, but both of those had a strong artificial tinge to them, that was present until the total dry down, at which point, all that was left is that soft vanilla musk scent, which most sweet scents turn into. I did like the apples and Poms also. Cant remember off the top of my head which ones But after I test some more I'll update.

This smells like generic lotion to me. Like maybe Jergens or.. I dont know, one of the other brands you can find at Target. :|

Ok, so I originally tested this at the WCWC, and was a little disappointed because I was hoping for a chocolaty version of Banshee Beat, and #OWS turned out all patch on me, with none of the other notes listed making an appearance. Then 2 days later when I was decanting a bottle of the Seekim, i realized the cocoa had completely separated down at the bottom, and wondered if that may had been the problem with OWS. So I was very excited when I got my order in the mail yesterday when I noticed.... there was no separation D: Tested the oil, and darn it, its the same. Just patchouli. It is a nice, soft, and veeery mildly sweet patch, but close to a single note on me nonetheless. It is a good blend if you like patch, but yeah.. wasnt for me.

    Sprinklecake

This scent kind of reminds me of a mash-up of the cake smash proto and Midway. I do get a lot of cake and some frosting, but I also get an airy warm doughy/buttery combo going on when I try to analyze the notes. It seems to stay pretty consistent on my skin, just slowly fades and turns to vanilla. This does smell nice, but there is one component off, or missing in it for me, to make me love it. I will probably keep my bottles and test again to see if anything changes.

    Blood scents

A quick rec that I just experienced is the copper proto. I think its copper v1. It is very metallic on me, and on the dry down it reaches this combo of warm musky base and bright metallic top, that is very reminiscent of blood, imo.

    Velvet Unicorn

This! I was trying to think of how to explain the drydown I get, and this is it! I thought people would think I was crazy when I tried to say that as a guy, I totally love this, and that even though its made up of young girlie notes, it dries down to an almost smokey spun sugar thats really not too sweet at all. I love it!

    Lady Amalthea

This is a very very nice scent! It is very girly, cool, and sweet. Actually, this is everything I hoped The Last Unicorn would be. Not herbal or overly floral on me. This is mainly white chocolate, and slight mint. I say slight mint because I mostly get the coolness from the mint, as opposed to the strong herbal/sharp side of mint. There is of course the floral aspect, but for me, its in the background, lying under pools of creamy cool white chocolate. Maybe tuberose too. A cool white chocolate covered bunch of tuberose. lol. That said, I agree that you can pick out each note of you look for it, but, overall its crisp white chocolate tuberose. Very Very nice. This actually reminds me a bit of The Girl. Although this is much more cool, and a little bit lighter. The total drydown (like 6-8 hours later) is a very soft cool, powdery vanilla. Being a guy, this isnt really something I would wear (even though I do sometimes rock a feminine scent ). However, this is a way awesome perfume imo, and I WILL be trying this as a linen spray on my sheets with a little perfumers alcohol. btw, I just read the other reviews and whoa, I dont know why my impression was so different from everyone elses. Especially since I am usually really sensitive to floral notes. Oh well, I guess thats what skin chemistry will do

scents that remind you of where the wild things are

Hmm, for me Zombi and deathcap came to mind. Or perhaps a combo of deathcap and brown jenkins? Something about fertile dirt and greens, and earth reminds me of that book. Plus brown jenkins description kind of fits in.. except the smallness "...Witnesses said it had long hair and the shape of a rat, but that its sharp-toothed, bearded face was evilly human while its paws were like tiny human hands..." ETA: oh, and the scent description= "A small, furry, sharp-toothed scent that will nuzzle you curiously in the black hours before dawn: dusty white sandalwood and orris root, dry coconut husk, creeping musk, and the residue of ceremonial incense."

    Luna Negra: Ted's Creation

This was my favorite of the bunch. It definitely reminds me of snake oil. Not that it smells the same, but just that sweet, spicy, musky quality is present. On my skin, I get mainly the sweet dark musk and the kewda, with berries tamed in the background. This is pretty much where the scent stays for the rest of the drydown. A sweet thick luscious.. and I agree with the poster above 'chewy' scent. I dont really get very much of the berries. But if I look for them I can pick out the qualities of them. A tiny bit tart, a little berry fruitiness, but, yes, they are way behind the sweet dark musk and attar. The throw on this was.. almost too much, lol. Most likely because its been soo hot here with an average temp of 115. But, this scent also lasts forever! I put it on in the morning, and after a day trip out of town, and a quick shower, and then a bath, I could still smell it, nearly as strongly as when I first put it on. Oh, also. I just noticed this scent has a cola quality to it. I think its the musk and kewda. Its really strange to have just noticed, but I just compared it with my cola extract, and yup.. very similar! Def a keeper for me!

Out of the bottle, I get sweet fruits and a slight lingering of Red Musk. Once applied, the sweet fruits go into overdrive, and it smells like tropical pixie sticks, with a tiny waft of red musk in the background. Maybe its just my skin or nose, but it seems like more than a couple scents in this collection have a powdery or dusty scent to them. Once dry for about 1-2 hours, the powdered sugar candy sticks part of the scent finally lightens up a bit, and I get more of the red musk that I love. It still is a light red musk, like others have said, and I can see this being great for warm weather. .. However, even in the final dry-down, the fruity notes are still just a little too powdered-sugar sweet for my liking. Although I would categorize this as a "light" scent, it does have a decent throw. And as long as you dont mind powdery sweet fruits and a light red musk, you'll be golden with this bottle. I think I would have liked to try this without the mango, cause as much as i like the fruit, it always seem to make scents smell artificial.

    Hungry Ghost Moon 2011

I loooove this scent! It is the perfect summer scent for me. I get nearly the same scent through the drydown, and that is a bright white grapefruit candy and vanilla. This is very "crystalline", that is a perfect word to describe the whole scent imo. None of the herbs or wood particularly stand out, they are probly there, making sure this doesnt get too sugary, but its sticking with white grapefruit candies and vanilla. Towards the last couple hours I get the musk, but it stays a light vanilla musk, which makes this even better!

This is absolute sparkling fizzy ginger ale with sarsaparilla for the first 3 minutes. Then I get a bit of the pepper developing, but still only in the background, in the next 5 minutes. However after that, the lubricant *i'm guessing* combines with the ginger ale smell, and turns to irish spring soap :/ And thats what I'm left with for the next 2 hours. Maybe it'll be better layered.. I do love the bottle art though! I got the male version, and he looks more menacing and explosive-savy than the one shown on the site

    Brood XIX

This turned out to be one of my favorites, which I am quite surprised to say. I get 3 notes in this from start to finish. Hay, sap, and almond milk. It's a nice warm, sun-soaked, aged hay note, with a decent amount of sweetness from resin-y sap, and a deep creaminess from the almond milk. This is definitely a warm sweet fuzzy scent on me, but I somehow still get the bristle-y texture of hay, even through the creamy warmth. Very very interesting! The even stranger part, is that I generally do not like hay or fresh cut grass smells. Yet somehow, this was my favorite from the whole collection. go figure edited cause I realized I was typing almond milk, when it says rice milk in the notes. .. That said, I really do get more of an almond milk scent, then almond blossoms and rice milk, but, whatev

Like most others a get a soft and very distinctly brown scent. Wet, I get moist dark brown sugar. Way sweeter than I was imagining. After a minute or 2 it actually starts to get a bit dusty on me and reminds me of a cross of Underpants (the powdery sandalwood and vanilla) and Miskatonic U (dusty coffee), with the emphasis on powdery/dusty, yet rich, brown sweetness. It actually is very rich.. its just the dusty aspect is still more prominent on me. The final drydown hours later, is still a dusty sweetness with maybe a bit more of the woods coming through, although still not very present. Overall I do like this, but its not as amazing as I was hoping. I would have liked more coffee. I'm wondering if the Khus is causing the dusty effect to my nose? I wouldnt think so, as I dont get any of the normal traits, but maybe its super diluted? Hmm...

When I first put this on, I got a cinnamon pinecone smell. (like the ones from craft stores and markets). It must have been the ginger and orange peel. Hmm, not my favorite so far. After another minute it gets a bit dusty, and then turns into Indian curry. Lol I was wondering what that could be, but see its the caraway and pepper now that I've read the description. Definitely interesting, I dont know of many scents that feature caraway like this one did on my skin. It stays in curryland for a good hour or so, and then the caraway fades and i get a nice spicy-sweet skin scent. It would be nice if the whole dry down process was a bit more like the final dry down stage, as that was really nice. I just amped the caraway for too long to enjoy the bottle.

    Grand Guignol v4

I get the snake oil bit, and a little bit of plum. This is actually smelling really similar to dried DeathRock. I'm not sure why that would be.. possibly allergies? but thats what I'm getting out of it now. When it dries, I do get more of the darker, patch/woody aspect, which is really nice, and what makes me love this bottle. Very glad I happened upon it!

Just got the bottle from a lab ebay auction, ans so glad i did! I dont know if its the age or what, but this smells like an amazing coconut marzipan. Its not super cherry, like a lot of almond scents are on me. Just a nice sweet milky almond and a bit of coconut in the background. Maybe a bit of the fig coming through too, but not much. I'm assuming this is from around 2005 as its a 10ml and in a cobalt bottle, but Idunno. I might have to get an imp of it next order to see how this is fresh.

    Benevolent Triple Conjunction

Not to sound like a broken record.. but this is a very interesting one! When I first put this on I get a spicy citrus zing. Its similar to lemongrass, but on me its more-so on the very fresh, very spicy, ginger side. And actually, that is exactly what I get for the first 5 minutes. A spicy, lemony ginger. After the ginger mellows, I get the rose, and thats about it. Its going back and forth from "hey, i'm ginger" and "hey, I'm rose". After about an hour, I still get the fresh ginger and rose, but I'm also starting to get a bit of creaminess and a different, more floral, spicy note. Its smelling like a nice sweet and soft lavender is creating the creamy note, and this new spicy quality is reminding me of the spiciness from some jasmine scents. This very nice combo lasted for a good 6 hours, then softly faded into a creamy, slightly sweet, floral musk. Overall, this is what I've experienced (scent-wise). Wet:Spicy fresh ginger Dry: fresh ginger and rose Finish: perfectly blended ginger, rose, creamy lavender, and spicy jasmine. A soft and sweet scent, with the tiniest spicy edge. This is very nice, however its not a #1 for me, mainly due to the rose-y note. I do, however, still really like it! The TAL aspect seems to be pretty accurate as well. Many of the "enhancements" have been nicely amplified, most obviously the positive fearlessness.

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

the top actually has a little dot thing that slightly protrudes. ETA: You might have to push it into your skin a bit, but it works (although not really for slathering )

    Bones Trombone

This was very lemony for the first 15 minutes. Way more so then I remember the bottle at the wcwc. It kind of reminded me of skytyping with chemtrails.. but with a creamy blueberry note too. through the first half hour the blueberry note comes out for me, and actually lingers in the background all through the drydown. 6 hours later i get a very very light fruit-sweetened cream with the tinniest bit of herbal/green note, which must be the hemlock. I really like this one, and will be getting another bottle for sure.
  25. Mellifluous

    Thunder and Blazes

On me, this is very much leather. Actually its all I smell for the first 15 min. Then I get a little bit of a sweet/spicy/dry grass scent. Must be the dragons blood and grass. 6 hours later I do get a bit of the mud. Of the three clown scents (tested on inner arm, left wrist, and right wrist. Applied at the same time) This scent was dominating the others the whole time. If I ever got a waft of scent, it was from Thunder and Blazes. So that said, if you like leather scents that last a long time and have decent through, this may be one for you. Although, from the other reviews, it looks like its totally up to your chemistry I'm kind of 'eh' for it myself. But will give it another go next week.
