    Ushi

Red musk, crushed tomatoes, mango, and fig. Yummm Ushi! In the bottle you smell like peachy mango deliciousness! And for the first 35, thats primarily how you stay. Not too sweat, just strong fruit with a very fresh smell. I'm getting almost no red musk on me, until hours later when theres almost no scent at all left. This really is a delicious, not too sweet, scent. I'm getting a bottle for sure.

    Rum-Soaked French Tonka

I cant believe I just got around to trying the Tonka SN. Works been crazy, with crazy travel schedule, so I brought it in my overnight bag, and kind-of forgot about it.. but found it this am, and.. wow. I am totally underwhelmed. I usually dont have a problem with almond (I love Eden, and Eclipse) but whoa, all I get from this is a cherry-tinged booze. My favorite part of Tonka, is the husk-y dry sweetness, and on my skin it gets completely overwhelmed by the almost artificial smelling rum and cherry/almond. I'm probably just being incredibly over-picky/sensitive, because pure tonka is one of my favorite smells... ever, but either way.. its just sad. My nose and wrists are sad. My bank account however, is very very happy! Again, I probably am just being a bit too particular because Tonka is my precious, and I wanted a bpal-ified single note of my precious.. and this wasnt the perfect type of my precious I was looking for. As long as you dont mind some almond/cherry extract, this will probably be just fine for you.

what is ruining these scents for me?

I've noticed myself, that sweet tobacco, or tobacco with honey.. or anything else richly sweet = cologne-y. And also gets amplified if there are other 'classic' cologne/aftershave notes (like rum, nutmeg, clove, citrus, frankincense, sage, patchouli, oakmoss, balsam, amber, etc). That said, blends that are mainly sweet (but not by honey) with a touch of tobacco work amazingly on me. Red Lantern, Pinched with 4 aces, and Perversion, for example. Hope thats helped some.

    Blithe Hollow

Blithe hollow so far is smelling like a softly sweet soap. The most obvious note is of cool air. Then there are some woods. I get the maple, although to my nose it come off as a drop of maple syrup. Not the tree. Mostly a soft soapy "ozone" with a touch of maple sweetness.

    Hippie Ghost

Well, so far Hippie ghost is smelling like hemp smoke and maybe a bit of patch. Smells like some one smudging their house with a sage stick.. and maybe they have some patch incense burning in the background. Definitely not a sweet or rich sage, but a hempy sagesmoke kind.

    Bub

Bub is smelling pretty awesome on me. It started off smelling just like Silver Haired Bat (sweet muskiness), but quickly changed. It's now like a soft milk blossom with a fuzzy spiciness. its not cinnamon.. 'cause this is not that harsh, but a very very soft fuzzy spice is in here. Maybe a white cinnamon? As its drying, a hay and/or chamomile note is coming out. I'm definitely keeping this bottle. It's soft, but strong... if that makes sense, and not soapy on me at all (thank god 'cause i'm a dirty boy, and dont like the smell of 'clean' or 'soap' ). Although, with the light florals, I can see how some like WAP could get soap. On me it doesnt turn though. Actually.. once its been on for about an hour, it smells exactly like fresh german chamomile. Like if you were to pick one and smash the spongy yellow mound between your fingers (a favorite past-time of mine as a kid). Mmm, I really like this!

    Courtney

Yup, this is a very Bubblegum heavy perfume! See, I even capitalized the 'B' But, underneath all that chewy pink sugary-ness (which is whoa, way more in your face than lolita or loli), there is antique lace. Now, this perfume is not a dupe at all.. im not trying to get anyone's hopes up.. But that soft vanilla at drydown.. I know that vanilla, and that is unmistakably the one from antique lace! Its that same softly-floral, and daintily-musky vanilla. I didnt notice any coconut though, unfortunately. A hadnt read the notes until the day after I tried it on, so maybe on my next application, I can find it in there. Overall, what I get from this perfume is, a huge wad of PINK bubblegum, with a very soft, floral-y, vanilla musk way in the background.

    Eight-Petaled Lotus

I was wondering as well, whether this would be a bubblegum lotus, or a watery/floral lotus. I think its mostly in the middle of those two... possibly slightly more on the watery/floral side. Overall, this smells like it could be a nice lotion scent. A soft flowery scent, with a slight watery sweetness. It invokes a very pale pink fuzzy color to my minds eye. I like it, but one bottle is definitely enough for me.

    Siberian Musk

This is an amazing blend! On me it smells nearly exactly like Snake Oil. Like, had I not known what it was when I sniffed it, I would have said snake oil, hands down. Upon doing a side-by-side comparison (one drop on my left hand, and one drop of fresh snake oil on the right), I noticed the SM is missing a drop of patchouli or vetiver.. whatever that slightly earthy vibe is in snake oil (which actually, I hadnt really noticed much before, but was clear when smelling these scents s-b-s). These really are so similar though, that wet, this is the only difference I get. After the first 20 minutes or so, as it begins to really dry, I begin to notice the sugared vanilla in the SO. From here on, the snake oil gets sweeter and sweeter, and the musk looses a lot of that signature snake oil feel, and starts to relax into a more generic musk. Like a soft tan musk. Egyptian musk maybe? But more subtle, and soft. Overall, just a really amazing scent. If you like fresh snake oil, this will definitely be right up your alley! I also think it will be perfect for layering with some scents that might be a bit too sweet on their own, like hikifune, or cab.goth

The Bow & Crown of Conquest

I just blind bought a bottle of Bow and crown, because I figured wth, I just have to try it.. and honestly I think its one of the only popular scents that in my years of ordering, have never been gifted with a frimp of yet. It is amazing! It's like a slightly smokier and less spicy version of CC: Male. Its that leather/vanilla scent with a nice spicy edge from the carnation. CC:M is almost identical on my skin, but the clove starts a lot spicier than the carnation. So happy I found a cheaper alternative, that's nearly the same exact scent. I'm in love

    Butterscotch and Blackbeetles

This is my favorite of the bunch! It does start as a typical homg sweet butterscotch scent, but not even 1 minute later you get this dark, slightly sinister, aspect looming in. It never completely overtakes the sweetness, but it does temper it really nicely! (and how appropriate for the part in the book this is representing! This is where things start getting dark. Its not a full plunge into the darkness, but just adds that little pique, that unsettles the up-to-then sweet and fun time). The patchouli in this is much like banshee beat, in that it is not an overpowering bitter black patch. It just lends a soft dark fuzziness. And actually I would say this scent, in general, could be described as a slightly sweeter butterscotchy version of BB. And again, the label art is amazing!

    Mouse Circus

I noticed this had a disappearing act on both GRR and Puddin, but this thing laaasts on me. It is very vanilla cotton candy ish, without much else. Maybe there is a slight popcorn note when first applied, but couldnt be more than a drop. I also do not get any woods at all. This is definitely not my kind of scent either, a bit too cotton candy heavy for me. But if you wished Midway was a bit more in your face, and a stronger cotton candy/vanilla scent, than this would probably be right up your alley! Label art is cute, too!

    Annurca Apple Blossom

When I first smelled this I though Garnier Fructise! Lol, this is very similar to what I remember that brands shampoo smelling like. How funny so many of us are getting that shampoo connection. Anyhow, OPther than noting that, I agree with everyone for the most part. Its mainly a green apple scent, with a bit of blossoms, and maybe some wood, that on me at least, barely makes an appearance, and only at the last couple of hours. I'd say the notes I get from this = 80% green apple, 15% blossoms, and 5% wood. Its nice, but I cant stand to smell like soap or shampoo.. or anything clean for that matter I suppose That said, it is a single note, so I guess I could attempt layering. ... or just sniff it every once in a while

    India Ink

I very much agree with GRR. This is most definitely a pure ink scent. Its crazy how dead on it is! It actually brings me back to my youth in art school, with acrylic and goauche paints right along with india ink itself. It reminds me of the moist sturdy brown paper towels we had, when cleaning up as well. This is like an art studio in a bottle, at least for me, in having some background in it. I think this will be a very nostalgic scent for many people, especially artists.

    Masculine but Sweet?

I would suggest: Tombstone - woodsy with a bit of vanilla sweetness (mostly cedar though) Chimera - New bottles tend to be extra cinnamon-y, but give it a month or 3, and it will be a dark/sweet/spicy with out being too overboard with the spice. Dragons Milk - Spicy/herbal dragons blood with a sweet resiny vanilla. Brown Jenkins - Sandalwood, coconut husks, and incense. Its spicy, sweet, and fuzzy. And although it may be harder, I totally agree with Helas - Banshee Beat! Patchouli is not a scent I normally gravitate to, but BB changed my mind on patch scents. The blend, on me, is almost entirely a black vanilla scent. There is the bit of hippy edge with the patch, but it is seriously burried under the vanilla and hemp in a way I never knew patch could be.

    Vespertilio Proterus

This is a very effervescent scent initially. Very much so like ginger-ale This reminds me of Gnome initially, but with much less soap However, 5-10 minutes in, the imps and goblins start adding scoop after scoop of melty vanilla ice cream. A gingerale float? I've never tried one, but this is what my nose is experiencing. I think I can pick out nutmeg and coriander a bit.. but honestly, to my nose, it all gets lumped in with the ginger and limu, to create that sparkling feel that reminds me of the ale. The fig and angelica I dont really ever find in this blend. Maybe the fig, but it would be a brown sugar+fig kindof note, maybe thats what is lending to the ice cream vibe I'm getting? Its just definitely more rich than plain ole' vanilla cream. Hours later, The ginger float dessipates as the scoops of ice cream just get piled higher and higher, and the vanilla cream overtakes all other notes. I'm left with just a slight hint of spiciness.. almost as if its not even there, I'm jut remembering its presence. I really like this one.

    Silver-Haired Bat

As I said in the bats day thread, from the bottle, this almost smells like a musky cotton candy scent. The benzoin seems that prominent. Upon application though, 95% of that sweetness dissipates rather quickly. This then turns into a very musky amber/gris. I dont get much of the balsam, but the ceder and oudh are present. A bit of pepper too. Passing whiffs of the ambergris/ceder in this blend can be a bit reminiscent of a post-workout scent, lol. This is a skin musk smell that fortunately is not down the same aisle as cumin, but for me, is still not quite a sexy musk.

    Epomophorus Monstrosus

This scent starts almost completely as a chocolate single note. Dark chocolate, actually. And as time goes by, it keeps getting darker and darker. Not really bitter.. but smokey. It doesnt seem like a patch/y smoke.. more so a woody one. I guess thats the bark, lol. Unfortunately for me, I dont get any sarsaparilla Completely dry on me, this is mainly bark, then musk (not clean at all), pretty far behind is tonka, and then way waaaay back in the back are glimmers of cocoa and patch. I want Sarsaparilla and patchouli! Lol, so I was a bit disappointed. But if you like a more woody dark fragrance with very subtle sweetness, this no doubt would be a winner for you.

    Great Vampire Bat

I dont so much get a wetness from it. It is actually kind of hard for me to describe. It seems to jump back and forth on my skin. One breath, I get only a crisp ozonic orchid scent, the next I get a heady jasmine/cherry scent, and then the next a slightly powdery sweet incense. They just seem to rotate through. This scent has a nice sweetness to it. The more I smell it, or the longer it sits on my skin, the more familiar this smells. I cant place the fragrance, but I have definitely smelled one like this before. Also, as it dries, I am getting wafts of bergamot. I am thinking this smells similar to one of the GRENDEL scents. Is it Harlequin? I cant place it from the notes, but I'm thinking it must be. Not a replica, mind you, but its got similar levels of sweetness, crisp, and perfumey. Not my kind of smell, but it isnt horrible.

    Two-Barred Flasher

I'm glad I wasnt the only one that got a cologne vibe. It is very much so a crisp cologne scent with a decent dose of fruity blueberry. After a while, I do get the lilac, and the scent settles into a more feminine perfume. This scent is actually quite perfume-y overall, but the blueberry stays present enough throughout, to keep it from smelling too commercial. The crisp tea, along with the other bright notes make me think of a classy Sunday brunch on the beach. This is a really nice summer scent, especially if you like more traditional perfumes.

    Horn of Plenty

Forces a change of fortune, helps overcome poverty and want, and helps attract prosperity, prestige and earthly bounty. I am seriously afraid that my nose is dead. I get cherry limeade from this. Pretty much from start to finish. I really like it a lot actually. Its not too sweet, but a very bright and cool sweet lime scent with a cherry/redfruit note with added sweetness (not a cherry/almond at all). I'm not getting any tobacco, and certainly not any vetiver. There is no smokiness at all in this to my nose. Not creamy either. It actually smells like straight up lime EO, with a bit of red fruit fo. Maybe a tinge of coconut. But thats all I get. I'm actually wanting a bottle of this.. but am kindof afraid because of the other reviews. I dont want tobacco or vetiver, or almonds. I might have to try this at a will call.

    Pink Moon 2012

I'm really surprised to hear so many reviews saying the chocolate was prominent.. the main thing my nose smells is peony.. actually PEONY, with a bit of carnation behind it. Maybe a little bit of sugar and other florals behind that, but primarily peony and a bit of carnation. I cant wait to see reviews from people that I sent decants to.
  23. I just found out this morning, that death adder is pure sex on my skin. It has all the sexiness of snake oil, with a dribble of black coconut (sexy and sophisticated, not beachy) and a drop of dark smokiness. If I didnt have work, I would totally ravish myself

    Black Heart

Too much pomegranate </3 I should have known better, but all the other notes sound soo amazing! Upon the total dry down (like 5 hours later) I do really love this scent. It looses the prominent sickly sweet pomegranate note, and deepens enough for me to enjoy it. Overall I'm not disappointed too much because 1, I bought it for the label. And 2, as long as I put this on before I go to bed, I can enjoy the scent in the morning, and it wont be a problem. Black Death is way more my style.

    Black Death

An amazing slightly sweet patch scent. Very hippy shop smelling, but in a good way. Like Banshee Beat, but with amber and slight citrus instead of vanilla. The patch isnt terribly dark like in the lucha scent or OWS. Deff a sweeter milder one. Very happy with this purchase.
