    Grand Guignol

I felt an immediate affinity for this scent when it was released because it made me think of my first year learning French in the 8th grade. When first applied, this is all juicy sweet apricots. Reminds me of my Grandma's homemade apricot jam. There is a slightly boozey note, but nothing heavy or identifiable. This goes a bit powdery fairly quickly on me, but the apricot goodness also hangs on. Sadly, this doesn't last on me at all; probably no more than an hour. Why is it that all of the "sparkling" or delicate scents that I love (Alice and one other fruity one that escapes me at the moment) don't last on me at all? Too bad. If this one had more staying power, I would certainly order a bottle for Spring.

Who do I email with questions? BPAL/BPTP contact info

Sorry, I don't have a trouser snake witticism to make- I just got up and the brain is not functioning due to lack of coffee. My customer service experiences have always been great, save for one which I think was due to either a technical snafu or late update of contact info. I emailed the Trading Post regarding the total shipping weight for a hoodie plus Naughty and Nice and never received a reply. I have to say I was pretty disappointed because it was the last day they were accepting submissions (yes, I shouldn't have waited til the last day-there was no guarantee I'd get a reply in time to order that late, anyway), so I didn't order Naughty or Nice. However, if I had wanted to I could have just estimated the weight and included that amount for the shipping and if it had been wrong, I'm sure that the Trading Post would have told me and we could have rectified the situation. It obviously wasn't a life or death siutation for me. Bottom line is, I don't think for a second that they didn't get back to me due to laziness or malice (that would be kind of silly from a business perspective) I think it was just an error of some kind. I think the email addie that was listed on the site at the time was puddin@papow(dot)net, but maybe it is the same one that is listed now. I can't recall for sure...

    Sol

This one is not mysterious to me at all. Usually, I have great difficulty pinning down a good description for a scent. Here you have it: orange spice tea. I think of orange all around (color, warmth, scent, feeling) when I smell this one. It is definitely a warm scent. It doesn't really morph on me, either (not many do, though). This is orange with a healthy dose of warm spiciness. I imagine cinammon and cloves. Kind of like a pomandour. I also get a faint, powdery whiff from this one, but definitely not anything overwhelming. Amber? Maybe not. I got this just for the feeling I was hoping it would impart, given the description. I have to say that after I put it on this morning on a drizzly, cold first day back to work, I maintained a feeling of high energy and direction all day. I did reapply once mid day because it had faded. I wouldn't say that this is a "pretty" scent, per se, but it is what it is, and I like it.

    Mistletoe

This is a lovely winter scent. Cool, green and lush. This is not as hit-you-over-the-head green as a pure pine would be. It also lacks the sharpness of pine. But, I am thinking that if you don't really like the smell of fresh pine, you won't like this. If I close my eyes and inhale deeply from the bottle I can smell all parts of the plant: woody twig, red berries (but not sweet berries) and deep green leaves. Given how strong this is wet I am surprised that it doesn't have more staying power. After a liberal slathering two hours ago it has all but disappeared on me.

    Rose Cross

ROSE! Wow, this sure is rosey. Straight up rose with a hint of soapiness. If you do not like rose, please be forewarned: this is like being hit over the head with a giant rose. It is like diving deep inside a giant rose and curling up in its velvety petals. This is a lovely scent, but it is not light on me, as some other reviewers have said. It is quite strong. So much so, that I would hesitate to wear it out, as I don't like my perfume to be really noticed by others (it makes me self conscious and fearful that I am offending someone; weird, I know). I don't get a bit of the frankincense, which is odd to me. I really like frankincense. So, yeah, unabashed rose.

    Lampades

On me, this is very similar to Seraphim, of which I am a fan. I get the same sort of Sweet Tart impression that I do with that one. What first comes through with Lampades on me is definitely the cranberry with a hint of light spiciness behind it (the ginger?). It is soft and light and round. There is a slight dryness lurking in the background here, almost smokey, which keeps this from becoming cloying. I can't really smell the floral aspect of this at all. I am not sure that I like this enough to buy a big bottle (I am not much of one for fruity scents, even though this one is not "hit you over the head" fruity), but it is a lovely scent, and I will certianly enjoy my imp while it lasts!

    Eve

This was received as a frimp in an order and when I smelled it in the bottle I really had on opinion one way or the other about it except,"Hmmm. Floral." I just wore it to a Halloween event last night for which I got all dressed up and oh my goodness, I am in lust. I could not stop smelling myself all night. Unlike others, I do not get overwhelming rose form this. The apple blossom and the ylang ylang are what really come out to play on me. Apple blossom makes me think of being a very young girl, as I think my sister and I had some play perfume/cologne that was apple blossom scented. So fresh, innocent and light. But the ylang ylang gives it a nice, sexual, sensuous charge. The perfect blend of innocence and sexuality. This is bright and slightly sharp, but very sensual. It draws you in and doesn't let you go. It kind of reminds me of one of my other favorite florals, Twilight. This will definitely be a 5 ml. purchase for me.

    Elegba

The first thing I think of when I smell this wet in the bottle is Gluttony. It has the same rich, nutty, buttery foodiness to me, but is not quite as overwhelmingly rich as Gluttony. When first applied, the coconut really hits me over the head! After just a couple of minutes, some of the rum peeks out, but I am not sure I would know what it was if I hadn't read the description. It seems weird to me that I get an extreme butteriness from this. It must just be my chemistry. Oddly enough, this is so rich that I expected it to be long-lasting, but it was all but gone within a couple of hours. I have to say that sadly, I don't think I am in love with any of Beth's coconut scents I have smelled. This is a pretty true coconut, though, so if that is what you want, you got it!

    Lenore

This is simply gorgeous. When first applied I get heavy wafts of citrus and patchouli. Shortly thereafter, the vetiver really comes to the forefront. Not so sure what I think about that stage. After about 20 minutes the extreme sharpness of the vetiver fades and the lemon comes back out with the musk becoming more apparent, as well. This is not a sad and mournful blend on me at all. It ends up being sharp and fresh and bright, thanks to the lemon. This one is pretty complex, and I do think it wil be a favorite of mine. ETA: I just wore this all day at work and I really am in love. This could be a top five...

    Devil's Night

I only ended up getting two Fall scents: this and Samhain. Of the two, I definitely think this is my favorite. This is heavily spicy on me; smells like cinnamon. I get a touch of smokiness, too. The sweetness of this is very light on me; spice and smoke are the overwhelming notes. It's funny, because the smokey note actually almost makes my throat feel like it would if you were inhaling smoke, a slight closing and burning, but not in a bad way, just realistic. I think I get a hint of dry leaves, as well. Sounds like it would be heavy, but it really isn't. This is a keeper for me, but I think that as soon as the warmer weather comes in the Spring, I won't want to wear this anymore. While it isn't heavy, it is most assuredly a cool weather scent.

    Harvest Moon 2005

This really is a beautiful scent, and quite true to the description. I get lots of wine and fruit, along with a hint of spice. However, I cannot get over the fact that this smells like an autumnal candle to me. It is a bit too perfumey for my taste, and it makes me think of Yankee Candle stores, which I really don't like. I am not a big house-scenter person, and this is justnot something I want to wear on my person. So, this is a wonderful feat, as far as capturing an autumn harvest in a bottle, but it just isn't for me! 'Fraid I might swap this one.

    Severin

Severin is such a beautiful, clean, sexy scent. It was love at first sniff for me upon opening the vial. Severin is a simple scent on me, and it doesn't morph on me, either. I get the scent of refreshing, light orange tea, nothing more. I usually hate scents with leather in them, but this is perfect. I know the leather must be there adding a hint of naughtiness, but I can't detect it. Sadly, this fades quickly into nothingness on me. At first, I thought I'd like a big bottle, but not if I can't smell it after 45 minutes.

    Velvet

A new-found love! I have to admit that I was worried after reading many of the reviews that described a chocolate mixed with pencil shavings scent. But, I am so glad that I ordered an imp of this to smell for myself. I didn't get any pencil shaving effect from the sandalwood at all. In fact, the myrrh didn't really appear, either. What I did get was rich, lucious cocoa. I like this even more than Bliss. I guess it smells richer and more deep to me without the milkiness that Bliss has. This is high quality, unabashed chocolate! I will be ordering a big bottle in the future, for sure.

    International Shipping Info+Questions

Hi There are a couple of preexisting threads that may be of help/interest to you: the where's my order thread and the international shipping info thread. I know it seems like an inordinately long wait, but I don't think you should be worried that it won't show up or that it hasn't gone through, yet. I'm sure that it will be just fine, but if you want extra peace of mind, you could email the lab with your order info as indicated in the first thread I linked to. Sorry that you are worried and I know that it will be worth your wait!

    White Rabbit

Unfortunately I think I am finding that I don't do well with milky scents. When first applied, this really smelled like orange blossom to me. Reminded me of an orange blossom "perfume" my sister had when we were kids. It wasn't very strong at all, and I thought that it would certainly fade away into nothingness. After about 10 minutes though, the pepper really started coming out. I really liked this phase, which lasted maybe 20 minutes for me. Sadly, the next phase of this scent was pure "b.o." on me. I don't know how else to describe it. It just started to smell like sweat. After about 5 hours of wear, this is still going strong. I can still smell the pepper pretty strongly, but I think it is the milk and honey combining to form the "yuck factor" with my chemistry. Oh, well. Too bad.

    Bliss

This is one of those scents that really morphs from wet to dry on me. In the bottle, I do just get the heavenly milk chocolate smell. However, when I dabbed it on my wrist and the smelled it wet I got a heavy hit of toasted nut that I didn't particularly care for. It smelled almost burnt, in a way. Glad that I had patience. Within just a minute or two the nutty smell was gone and it smelled as though I had rubbed a Hershey bar all over myself. How wonderful!

    Nosferatu

First applied: This is very cool and green on me, with a strong soapy tone, as well. I was hoping for "dirt", but so far, that isn't rearing its head. I think that the soapiness I am getting is actually an herbal or floral note that goes soapy on me. 15 minute mark: Aha! There's the dirt! I think that the soapiness was really just the wet earth smell coming through in the beginning. It is so lovely and damp and fresh! I'm still not sure that I smell the red wine, though. 1 hour:This has lightened up quite a bit, and is still open, fresh, wet dirt. The wine never appeared on me. This is such a clean scent. I think that it may have to become a cool weather staple for me. Just lovely. A "clean" dirt.

    Rosalind

Ooooh, pretty! First applied: This is a bright, sharp, sunny fragrance. It makes me think of juicy citrus, sun, and sparkling crystal. Clear and bright. It is a good balance of light, crisp floral and what smell like citrus to me (although not listed as a note). After 1/2 hour: This is not as sharp anymore; it has mellowed quite a bit. Now, it is a bit soapy, although not overwhlemingly so. What I thought was citrus has lost a lot of "tang" and now seems to be the berries noted in the description. I don't really get the green notes from this one. I think this one will be another fast-fader on me. I really do like this, though, and I find it energizing. It has a sweet innocence to it, and I wish it had more staying power and throw on me.

    Seraphim

A perfume sacred to the highest of the angelic hosts: calla lily, wisteria, white sandalwood, Damascus rose and frankincense. This was an unexpected extra in a forum purchase that I recently made. Seraphim hadn't even made it onto my wishlist when I read the description. Just goes to show that I can't always anticipate what something will smell like on me based solely on the notes. That said, this may be one of the best, serendiptous BPALs I've connected with! In the vial, it is a light floral with some earthy tones and a definite sharpness to it. On my skin, the same earthiness and floral notes are there, but there is also a pleasant, fruity Sweet Tarts smell! I love the combination of the sweetness and the slight sourness. It is really quite pretty and light on me; not overwhelming or headache-inducing in the slightest. Fresh and clean. This unexpected fnid might become a staple/big bottle for me.

    Strawberry Moon 2005

I think I am in love! Wet: At first sniff this is super-strong and very sweet on me. I know this sounds terrible, but it smells like strawberry Nestle Quick to me, at first. That, or pink penicillin. It is probably just the overpowering sweetness that gives me that impression. 10 minutes: A lot of the sweetness goes away pretty quickly and I am left with just a strong, true strawberry scent. Pretty simple. Dry: This has mellowed out even more. I don't catch any of the floral notes or even the cream in this. That is just fine with me, because I am left with lovely, ripe red berries. Why, oh why did I not order a bottle of this!?

    Honey Moon

I got to try this, thanks to the lovely brownbear! This is really a true honey and my skin chemistry doesn't seem to change it in any way; it stays true to the "in-the-bottle" scent on me. Honey, pure and sweet. I can tell the floral notes are there, but *barely*. The ginger adds just a tiny bit of spiciness and more warmth. I really like this! I think this would make a beautiful Spring or Fall scent, most of all.

    Black Pearl

I ordered an imp of this based on the hazlenut and coconut notes... Wet: This is really soapy on me. Wierd! I don't really get any hazelnut at all; bummer. I think my skin is picking up on the iris really strongly and there is just the faintest hint of coconut, but I wouldn't know that's what it was if I didn't know it was in there. Just gives a slight warmth. Dry: This really hasn't morphed on me at all. It is still a soapy floral with an undercurrent of coconut. I thought this would be a keeper, but not for me.

    Somnus

Wowza. I just put this on a few minutes ago while reading in bed, and now I am heavy-lidded. The strongest note in this is definitely lavender; no doubt there. I *think* I smell something slightly citrusy/lemony, but I am not sure. While I usually think of citrus as invigorating, this is soothing and calming to me. That's why I'm not sure if my sniffer ir right. I also think I smell a light floral note in the background, maybe some honeysuckle? I really, really love this. I think a 5 mL will have to be in the works, soon.

    Snake Charmer

I had high hopes for this, given the description and the name. But like Slave1 said, I was expecting something more akin to Snake Oil in terms of exotic, spicy, vanilla goodness. In the bottle this smells rather light to me. However, on, it's a very different story. I don't notice a big difference between the smell of it wet on my skin and the dry scent. It is very perfumey! It makes me think of a generic, floral "mature woman's" perfume. I find it very flowery and I don't get any sweetness or vanilla from it. It is just not me, or what I was looking for or expecting. I think this one will be going up for swap. This is probably House of Mirrors, but I don't know for sure so I'm leaving it here. --Shollin

    Alice

I fell in love with this wet, in the imp. Such a comforting, round scent. No sharp edges to be found. Wet: This smells like the frosting for the Pillsbury Orange Sweet Rolls you get in the refrigerated aisle of the grocery store. Mmmmm, sweet and orangey. Comfort food. 10 minutes: The milk and honey have really come out now. It's gotten a bit softer and lighter, but I can smell the notes more distinctly. Dry: Rats! This has totally disappeared on me, and I slathered liberally. Crud, I really wanted a big bottle of this upon first sniff, but not if it disappears on me. I can only smell it now if I jam my nose right up to my wrist. It smells pretty powdery/milky now, too, but no sourness to the milk. The bergamot/orangey smell has vanished, too. Verdict: A lovely scent if you can get it to last on you!
