Gorgeous black musk with a hint of amber.

I was recently sent a bottle of this by accident (gift!) and decided to give it a try. This is lovely. It is what I have wanted from every Frankincense/Myrrh blend and where they have all failed, this one succeeds. Over the hour that it takes to settle, I smell every note! And it settles as mostly ambergris, ambrette seed and frankincense, which I love. Nothing harsh, everything mellow: a warm, comforting scent. I keep reapplying to repeat the journey. Love. What a wonderful accidental gift. Still a love on 19 July '23

White Chocolate, Mysore Sandalwood, and Lemon Peel
HerbGirl replied to Seajewel's topic in Lupercalia
This is one of my favorites of the past several years. The sandalwood and white chocolate are creamy and sweet and the lift from the lemon is just perfect. ETA: I smell like a gelato shoppe and I love it.- 9 replies

Hmm...I agree with doomsday_disco but, I would add Hollywood Babylon as a GC rec. It is a favorite of mine- very berry with red musk and patchouli but no clove. 🙂 So...it is actually amber, not patchouli but my recommendation stands!

I was very excited about this one. I'm still trying to figure out if that terrible glass note will ever calm down so I can wear and enjoy it. Grr. Eta The 'terrible glass note' was actually the fir not wanting to play nice with the other notes. I will enjoy one of the 2 bottles I blind bought, lol.

It's everything you want it to be if you drool over the listed notes. Excellent. However... Eta: this dries down to an evergreenish red musk scent. Not sure where the red musk came from... Eta 30 Nov. 2023: zippy red musk? Where is that note coming from and how does it drown out the other notes??? I love the scent but it is not true to the expectation of its parts...

I'm wearing Greed this morning. It has been one of my favorites since 2010. I came here to check the notes...I always forget that this gets really strong after 30 minutes! I keep reapplying for the first 10 minutes because it seems light and I need to remember that it just takes a while. This is a truly gorgeous and yet almost off-putting patchouli. The copal and oakmoss are lovely, dark and deep. I never really get the heliotrope. If you like gnarly, earthy patchouli blends with a glow that isn't amber- this is a win. Eta- the heliotrope is the 'glow'!

Would you believe the green tea is the strongest note? Yup. And this is beautiful, lightly piney but grounded by the resin. I love it. The tea fades pretty quickly but it is still wafting around me...this is gorgeous. An hour later, the tea is still the strongest. I wonder how this will age and am contemplating another bottle. Eta- March 17- this has smoothed out and blended and is, dare I say, inky. If you think you might like this, you will most likely not be disappointed. This is so very good. Eta- September 28- very deep and smooth combo of green tea, terebinth and ink. "These woods are lovely, dark and deep" This oil reminds me of early morning army training exercises waiting in a tree line as the sun just starts to come up...there's a brightness to the velvety inky darkness. I am thrilled to have a bottle of this because the decant I've been carrying with me all year is almost gone. Soooo good.

This showcases the best of both scents and I absolutely love it. I layer Snow White with many scents and I was surprised I hadn't layered with White Rider before.

It took about a minute after the effervescent crap calmed down to realize this is the frankincense from Totality, and it is strong. I love frankincense and will wear this but I had expected more complexity from this.

2022 version- Yes. Full, velvet red rose. I don't think aging does Peacock Queen or Rose Red any favors but they are delightful new.

2022 version- just beautiful. A bright, florist refrigerator realistic rose. I believe this is the rose used in blends with dead leaves... I layered it with October and it is just *chef's kiss*.

Snake Smut. ??? There was a fleeting moment of Snow White that ran screaming from Smut, I suppose. Very interesting how so many of the oils over the past year have been 'not what I expected to smell based on the notes'. Frustrating.

I love this so much and wish I had bought 2 bottles instead of one, but I'm so happy to have this. I smell something akin to apple as a few folks have mentioned, but it is most likely the petals (?), opium and cognac doing something wonderful. Zero patchouli. I bought this immediately and have been wearing it since May '22 and still zero patchouli. I'm ok with that because I feel patchouli would not fit in here. This is one of the most addictive perfumes I have ever worn. It smells like May to me, can't explain, but definitely not an Autumn scent. Enchanting, for sure.

I have had this since the end of it's release, and am wearing it today so I figured I would chime in. I love a good dark fruity red musk blend so this is lovely. Definitely red musk and dark berries, reminds me a lot of Hollywood Babylon with a twist of Mania (I love both). I am so glad I decided to get a bottle.

Now I get it. When I first got this, and even the first few weeks, it was an Old Spice jumble of a scent. Now, I smell almost all of the listed notes, interestingly in the order they are listed, which is neat with a long list. Mostly I get the black musk and cedar (lovely), with a touch of carnation, amber and cinnamon as an afterthought with the clove as the punctuation. This is really nice.

I really like this and have been wearing it the past few days. Mild blackberry meshed with cade (not a huge fan but it isn't a deal breaker here) and just barely a hint of ylang ylang and possibly patchouli (if I really try). Not sure why it is soooo light though. The scent is amazing, if only it was a bit stronger. Waft is non existent, I have to sniff my hand/wrist if I want to smell it. Eta: my decant is stronger than my bottle...hmm, ok. Still the same - blackberry and cade, and a tiny bit of ylang and possibly patchouli.

Yes to all of the notes. This is beautiful. I thought I was smelling an opium/poppy deepness/darkness but it is not listed. The rose doesn't take over, actually, everything is nicely balanced and I enjoyed this for the New Moon in Capricorn. I am personally hoping the oak bark and black currant get stronger and stand out because I love those notes together. Very nice. (Also, pairs well near In the Shadow Room)

Must enjoy bergamot. The ambergris is extremely light handed and I can find the incense if I really try. Not sure how this implies silver or misty.

Very nice blue tinged musky fir needle. I don't smell peony but I do smell a faint tulip note. I wonder how strong that note will be for others. I am a fan of consistency in my perfumes and have become extremely wary of all of the extreme bottling errors, mislabeling and variations most likely due to speedy bottling without stirring/recombining components, etc.

Red Musk, Sugared Amber, and Red Berries
HerbGirl replied to Silvertree's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
I was so excited for this. I have tested it twice and had the same experience both times. This seems very tame for the notes listed and I actually can't smell red berries at all. The dry down is a kind of sweet, faint red musk and it must be a different amber than any I have smelled because it doesn't read as amber to my nose. Meh. Also, there were folks talking about this oil being milky or opaque and seperating but mine is NOT. Eta - I am jealous of the third reviewer! Sounds like they got what I had hoped for. Eta 08 Jan- there is a slight hint of berries now, actually there is a slight hint of the three listed notes now. Have to bring my wrist to my nose to smell anything. Why so light? Eta - after reading later reviews, I bet I got a dud. Sad.- 11 replies
