This is another one that I can't believe I haven't reviewed. I love the Lab's honey, but it's frequently too heavy on me. Here, though, it's perfect. The light scent of honey remains throughout with a bit of floral and herbal in the background to keep it from being cloying. It's liquid sunshine and happiness in a bottle.

    Polyhymnia

I'm getting a PhD in Rhetoric and Writing, so I'd hang on to this no matter how it smelled. Luckily, it's wonderful. I get orris root and white sage at the base, with the lemon and honeysuckle floating on top. As it dries, the orris and sage dominate, though a bit of citrusy sweetness remains. I wear this to teach in all the time...it perfectly evokes the properties of this muse.

    Oya

Stormy, dark plum. Not the light, sweet plum that I've experienced in other blends like Bathsheba, but a ripe, heady, almost bloody plum. This one is a conceptual triumph, but the ozone and spice are combining in really bad ways on my skin. Bah.

    Yule

Very green...I can definitely smell the living trees here. I also get the warm, juicy berry scents. This perfectly nails the concept; I can't picture wearing it as a fragrance, but it would be lovely in an oil burner.

I'm so glad that a kind swapper traded me for this! If Bulgari's Green Tea scent decided to hang out at a Bath and Body Works for a day, this would be the result. It has that lovely crispness and freshness of green tea, but there's a sweet, fruity note underneath. In some ways, this is one of the more "commercial" blends from BPAL that I've tried, but in this case, that's not a bad thing.

    Sundew

Muted floral with a waft of citrus...truly one of my favorite things I've ever smelled from the lab. Sunny and lovely. However, then the poison rears its head...the SECOND this touched my skin, I got huge welts. I have no idea why, but this scent does not like me at all...I actually swapped it so I wouldn't accidentally get any on me.

    Count Dracula

I really wanted this to work on me, but all I got was very heavy, very masculine clove and leather. However...I gave it as a gift to a very genderflexible friend, she put it on, and she and her girlfriend immediately began necking on my couch. I thought I was going to have to get a hose to get them off each other...they swear that they were overcome by the power of the BPAL. Very good, but not on me.

    Glasya

This is another one of the scents that I can't believe I haven't reviewed, as it's one of my all-time favorites. I'm basing this on the original, although it sounds just like the new reviews...yay! My skin loves dragon's blood. Loooooves it. So that's the dominant note that I get from Glasya, but the musk, patchouli, and civet all swirl in to give it a bit of a bite. After that, the rose just peeks out, keeping it from being too heavy. This scent is amazing; I actually had a professor stop lecturing and compliment me on it mid-class once. Thank you, Beth, for bringing it back, even if only for a while.

    Lionheart

How on EARTH can I not have reviewed this? One of my absolute favorite oils. I get cinnamon, with some clove and vanilla from this scentwise. (It layers beautifully with Bathed and Infused's Cremasse.) But the scent is only the beginning...there's a real warmth and comfort that comes from this, as well as a kick in the pants. It's like having your best friend or your mom sit down with you, give you the love and reassurance you need, and then poke you with a sharp stick to get you moving in the warmest, fuzziest way possible.

    Anthelion

Unbelievable stuff...like serenity made liquid. I get a bit of clove and herbal, along with vanilla. I've used it for battling my depression, as well as a nasty bout with bronchitis that turned into pneumonia, and it's worked wonderfully every time. Highly, highly recommended.

    Baku

Gorgeous, gorgeous billows of lavender with a sharp herbal spike underneath. It's lovely, and has helped me post-nightmare. However, it's not the greatest blend to help you fall asleep, not that it's supposed to be.

    Theodosius, The Legerdemain

Tea and vanilla and yummyness...in short, SOOOOO much like Dorian, but...not. As much as I love the smell of Dorian, there's a musky undernote that just goes very "boy" on my girlish self in an unpleasant way. However, it's not there in Theodosius. This does smell "androgynous" in a "woman wearing men's fragrance" way, but it's really good. In short: just a bit manly, yes, so I really like it too!

    Rain Scents

Hmm...maybe, Forspecial Plate. For me, though, all I smell in Neo-Tokyo is cherry blossom and ozone, and Zombi's all rose. Interesting thoughts, though...and I definitely want to try Wet Garden now! This is so pathetic; I never thought I'd miss this place so much, but I really do. Especially sitting out on the porch, or even on the living room couch, smelling early evening breeze and hearing amazing street musicians a few blocks away...sigh.

    Rain Scents

Thanks, guys! I definitely know what you mean about Danube, Electra...it's kind of got part of the feel, but not entirely. Never tried it layered, though; also, never tried Szepasszony. Any other ideas, fellow forumites?

    Rain Scents

Okay, weird question... I just recently moved to a small college town, which has a lot of great things about it. However, I'm really missing specific things about the place I lived before...most importantly, the smell. (Well, and the selection of restaraunts, but I won't go into that here.) I lived in the garden district of Dayton, OH, and I really miss the smell when it rained. Particularly in the spring, since there were white blossoms on the trees (I WISH I knew what kind) that would fall off and get crushed on the sidewalk. There was the smell of rain, flowers, ozone, and however you can define the smell of...city. I don't know, humanity and exhaust? But it wasn't overly hot...still cool and moist. Can anyone recommend a BPAL that is somewhat like this?

    Pulcinella & Teresina

I had the same stomach-turning reaction as many here...rotting wood, possibly with bodily effluvia. If I didn't know better, I'd think that my nemesis vetiver was in here; the only BPALs that have been this bad on me have all had it. I really wanted to like this, but I couldn't wash it off fast enough.

    Gennivre, L’Artiste du Diable

On me, this scent becomes black tea with honey. The mint and citrus are just the *tiniest* note of sharpness in the background. It's warm and soothing, without being too domestic. I absolutely love this one. Lots and lots.

    Freak Show

"Welcome to the Freak Show; here we go...." I absolutely agree with Wickedgoddess' original review: this is absolutely a juicy Dia de los Muertos, with the sweetness that DDLM has when fresh enhanced with ripe fruit. Love, love, love!!!

    Bengal

I have one word to say about this scent: OUCH! It burned both my arm and my nose, particularly at first. At drydown, the scent mellows slightly, with the honey scent coming to the fore. However pretty it is at that point, though, I can't go through the wet stage to get there. I feel like a wuss saying this, but Bengal is too much for me...there's just more spice here than I can handle.

    Beatrice

I must add a rave here. The story on which this is based is one of my all-time favorite short stories in the world. And I'm a big ol' English geek, so that's not an easy honor to achieve. It got me hooked on Hawthorne in a big way...so I had to order this scent. It's everything I dreamed it would be; somehow I'm absolutely sure that this is the exact scent that wafted from Beatrice and "her sister," the large, dangerously beautiful plant at the heart of the garden. The scent is dark green with a fuschia core, like a pitcher plant of fragrance. You want to drown in this. To be slightly more concrete, there's rose and thick greenery in this. It's rich and feminine, but in no way "girly" or cute. It's sexy as hell...my Halloween costume last year was Poison Ivy, and I wish that I'd had this scent then. Somehow, I'm sure that it's her favorite perfume.

    Miskatonic University

Wet: Is it wrong to say that you want to drink yourself? If so, I don't wanna be right. This almost made me blow off work to go down to the corner pub for an Irish Coffee or three. Exactly like the best I.C. I've ever smelled. Dry: The woody and dusty notes come out, and the coffee and cream drop back into second place, with a faint whiff of whisky remaining. Absolutely fantastic...a real triumph of fragrance art yet again. Beth, you rock.

    The Ides of March 2005

This is lovely stuff--light, fresh, with one of the nicest lemon notes ever. Unfortunately, one of the notes does *not* like me. Bah. Two bottles off to swaps...

    Bayou

I was really surprised to read other reviews of this scent, as I can't smell anything masculine about it. Granted, it's not a super girly-girly scent, but it makes me feel very feminine when I wear it. It has really great staying power on me, and it's perfect for warmer weather or when I want something that just feels fresh. I also made up a shower gel in this scent, and it's heaven. It's all green moss and white flowers...one of my absolute favorites.

    Hetairae

My skin just does the oddest things with some fruit notes...on me, this is my beloved O, but it has the smell of rotting grapes on top. It can't just be the fig, as I can wear it well in Dragon's Heart. ?? Bleah, bleah. Grrr.

On someone else, this would be a commanding, beautiful, womanly blend of lush and spicy florals. Gorgeous. On me, it instantly turns into "smell of Grandma." Damn.
