    Dragon-Smooched Snake Oil

While creating a 4lb mother bottle of Snake Oil, I had a brain fart and accidentally dropped honey accord, extra patchouli, and dragons blood into it. While it is another Horrible Error, I figured that it might be a Horrible Error that some people might enjoy. So wet and early dry down this was sort of cola like syrupy deliciousness but now is hitting me with some heavy patchouli, but not the dirty hippy kind, with just a hint of dragons blood. A bit of perfumey sweetness that I would bet might be the honey accord over the sugared snake oil. This is patchouli forward, but it is fresh from the mail and not the long dry down. I will try to update with long drydown results. This will almost certainly age most gloriously and fans of patchouli that is not overwhelmy or head shopy should definitely try it. I myself am hoping for a bit more dragons blood! Edit: this is already drying down to a sweet mashup of patch, perfumey dragons blood and sweet snake oil. Snake oil is backdrop, not dominant, honey does not to all weird, in fact is almost undetectable to me. This has blended superbly into a fascinating and almost enchanting scent even though I *whispers* do not generally enjoy snek oil. Edit: late dry down, a well rounded almost, nutty idk hos to describe it, full patchouli non dirty, with only the lightest kiss of snake oil and dragons blood. Eta: tried my second bottle to see if there was any variation but it dried the same way, I may just amp patch (I usually actually normally avoid it in blends bc I cannot stand the dirty hippy variety, so I cannot speak to if that is normal for me.) As earlier the dry down is a so pleasant mish mash if sweet snake oilyness as a backdrop for delicious chewy patch with only the faintest breath of dragon blood.

    Wild Dandelion

SINGLE NOTE: WILD DANDELION Simple and fresh and fair from winter's close emerging, As if no artifice of fashion, business, politics, had ever been, Forth from its sunny nook of shelter'd grass - innocent, golden, calm as the dawn, The spring's first dandelion shows its trustful face. - Walt Whitman A scent as fresh as spring and as radiant as summer: the splendor of a crown of golden petals, the tartness of sap and pungent greens, and the gentle touch of white seed florets drifting in the breeze. This scent is crazily accurate for me. I get in the bottle the smell of faint sweet dandelion heads (the flower), a little of the milky stems and a wash of the fresh not quite bitter leafy green bits. On me at least in the short term it stays pretty true. Will edit in the long term dry down. If you like how actual dandelions smell, especially if you have fond memories of picking them on warm almost summer evenings and lying in the grass as the sun is just a glow on the horizon... You want this SN.

    Halloween: Las Vegas

HALLOWEEN: LAS VEGAS Ah, love, let us be true To one another! for the world, which seems To lie before us like a land of dreams, So various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain; And we are here as on a darkling plain Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, Where ignorant armies clash by night. On Halloween in 2007, surrounded by our loved ones, I married the man of my dreams in Las Vegas. True to the nature of our relationship, it was a costumed event - a pirate-themed wedding - and it was as merry, strange, and wonderful as a Halloween wedding should be. Ted, I love you. You are the poetry in my soul, you are the dreams of my heart. You are everything I need, and I love you with a passion that transcends all time, space, and logic. The aftermath of piratical nuptials: walls smeared with red and black frosting, copious amounts of spilled red wine, the leftover contents of three full bars, dry leaves and desert flowers crushed into carpet, tobacco smoke, and champaca incense in a cloud of body-heat amped Snake Oil and Dorian. It has been a few hours but this still lingers nicely. Halloween in Las Vegas (is what it says on the label) is a nice blend. This is VERY reminiscent of Cake Smash on me, but unlike Cake Smash, this actually works. In the bottle this is Delicious cake and frosting mixed with ripe and delicious dark fruits. Once on this edges on the play-dough edge that makes Cake Smash not work for me, but as it dries down, it looses the play-dough! yay! I don't get a lot of frosting from this blend (oddly enough) but I do get the red velvet cake, and faint hints of that dark fruit (must be the booze?) peeking through. On me, I don't get any actual "alcohol" note, if you were worried. I also can't really sense the Dorian or really anything else... except maybe a little incense in the background which keeps it from getting too sweet. This is definitely a hit! Eta: almost 7 years later this is still a wonder. Sweet frosting, non boozy wine, a hit of tobacco and incense. Hedonistic revelry. Love.

    Little Photojournalist

Lilith Barrial, budding photojournalist, at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, New Orleans, LA. She’s been snapping photos since she was a toddler; we have whole photo albums of blurry photos of shoes and pavers from those days. She loves taking her powder pink instax on trips, and loves to document playdates with her friends. Cathedral incense and rock candy. Just as listed. This is the incense of midnight mass, sweetened with unflavored rock candy (reads as just sugar). This incense does not seem to work on me though (unlike the incense in mystical aphorisms). This is very simple and uncomplicated, a definitr try for incense lovers, especially if you like cathedral incense particularly.

    Apocalyptic Horseprincess

Lilith has always enjoyed the company of monsters. She grew up at Dark Delicacies, and two of her favorite toys when she was a baby were a Freddy Krueger rubber mask and a matching Freddy doll (with razor hands that were blunted by Grandma Sue so Lil didn’t poke an eye out). She has fears just like any other kid, but her monster friends help protect her from “real life” dangers. When she gets scared late at night, we talk about her ghost friends that roam the house, the vampires that live in our basement, the werewolves that hang out in the yard, the zombies that keep spare brains in our garage freezer, and all the other monsters (imaginary monster friends?) that love her and keep her safe from “real world” dangers. When we vend at horror-centric conventions, the monsters are always so nice to Lilith. At Midsummer Scream, she gets tons of high-fives from shambling ghouls and radioactive plant horrors, and she gets hugs from demented clowns and slobbering werebeasts. Ever since Lilith was in kindergarten, we’ve helped with her school’s Halloween party, so she’s grown up loving setting up and working in haunted houses and horror mazes. This photo is from this year’s Midsummer Scream. Lilith was inspecting a headless horseman scene, getting ideas for this year’s Halloween maze. Crushed mint and neon lime, sour candy powder, and wild plum. So wet, this is intensely discordant to me. The mint and sour candy powder war with each other. And the throw is long so... whew, that waa hairy for a bit. Dry down is a somewhat pleasant surprise, the mint calms down a lot (I wouls say this is spearmint, not peppermint) and blends nicely with the sour powder candy which has also calmed but does have a definite powdery sort of scent. The lime is oddly neon, but not overly strong. I do not get the plum yet, which is a disappointment as I love a good plum note, so I hope with aging it comes. A unique and fun scent, not quite like anything else I had. If you like mint or candy scents that are not overwhelmed by those notes, try it.

    Baby’s First Con Panel

On July 20th, Lilith went to her first SDCC panel. As a carny kid and the tiniest Lab Rat, shes been to tons of cons and events, and weve been taking her to San Diego Comic Con since birth. While shes always had a good time, this was the first year that she was independently invested in her enjoyment there. She tore up the vending area, played video game demos, went looking for Arthas ice cream shop, and sat through several panels of her choosing. It was an experience that was truly /hers/ for the first time, and that was a really amazing piece of magic that I was privileged to witness. The scent of the soft pretzel we hid in our backpack, plus a bit of leftover chocolate chip cookie. In the bottle this is all chocolate, really delicious with a little cookie, not buttery. The throw on this is very limited to me and my skin seems to eat it. Non buttery chcolate chip cookie with faint whisps of something with a little salt and savory. Very pleasant, not complex though. And as I said, my skin devours it. It is fresh from the mail, so ymmv.

    Mari Lwyd

This is a pleasant scent, very understated baked good - mostly just adds a warm sweet background to a nice almost berry like lavender. It is a nice calming scent that is inoffensive and easy to wear.

    Love Blessing

This is white florals I think. There is must be lily, something sort of polleny, no rose. I do not think gardenia. I am bullocks at picking out notes but definitely white florals. Delicate, calm, understated. I can totally stand this and even like it. It also does not appear to be giving me a migraine and is not amping wildly on my skin. This is the second floral from this series that works for me. Nothing short of a miracle. I will post later on magical effects after my husband wakes.

    Comfort

Oh gods this is amazing. I do not get bakery quite as much as perhaps something closer to marshmallow, maybe with lavender cookies baking somewhere. Definitely lavender. And I agree with above. Both cooling and warm simultaneously- like when you have a cold room and a very warm comforter to cover you. Not too hot, not too cold. I get a vague citrus in the background. This is marvelously comforting and I think I might wear it quite a lot in the coming weeks, especially while I’m trying to avoid using my anxiety meds when I can. I feel much less anxious, much more peaceful. Almost languid. I thought Beauty was my favorite, but naw, this one wins out.

    Good Luck

So this started off a little disconnected and weird when first applied. Once it had a while to dry down it definitely has some red hots cinnamon. And then maybe a musk? I’m not sure. It is very hard to pin down. The dry down is much nicer than when wet. I’m not sure I’d wear it just as perfume, but I’m hoping I can generate a little good luck. No luck so far, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

    Beauty

So, I have not yet had this on for enough time to speak to the Magic’s properties- I am going to edit later today to update on that. As for the scent, honestly this is super out of my wheelhouse normally but at the same time this may be my favorite of the lot. I have a hard time picking out notes but I am going to try. There is rose. Maybe pink. Extremely delicate, not overwhelming, blended well with the other flowers. Maybe some kind of lily, not the big white waxy ones. More like tiger lily. I think there might be a touch of jasmine? I am not positive, if it is there, it is the gentlest jasmine I have ever worn. And then laying over it all is some kind of honeyed blanket that makes it a sweet (not foody) scent. This does not appear to give me a headache. This does not overwhelm me. This is a distinct and not a shy blend, but it isn’t the wild loud extrovert either. A blend that is most comfortable in an intimate small group but really shines. This a floral for floral haters. For the record, all these florals normally amp on me like wild but that does not happen here. I will say since putting it on, my anxiety- the tightness in my chest, has eased off a little. Not entirely but a little. Maybe it is the aroma and not the magical properties. Edit in: I would say this may have increased my charisma. I had to do some emergency shopping and I was kind of a spark of light when talking to the workers I hope, as a difference from the crap they seem to be getting. Not sure I experienced much else, but I have been staying pretty calm in the face of crummy adversity.

Coffee Bean, Cardamom, & Vanilla Pod

This is a little too cardamom forward for me until the late dry down, so it is nice enough but the vanilla reads a lot like cream or milk and isn’t quite distinct enough to buy a bottle of yet.
  14. Deceitfuldescender

    Fairy Market

I am unsure even how to describe this except a little sweet but not foody. Ethereal with a touch of incense. It is really lovely. I was skeptical but this is everything I had hoped it would be and maybe better. It is not floral or foody, just atmospheric and right.
  15. Deceitfuldescender

    Fig & Cranberry Sufganiyot

I am going to retest this because my skin turned this into a big fail. Fake smelling cranberry and cloying fruit sweetness (fig?) and no bakery note at all. Definitely will try again since everyone else is getting different stuff.
  16. Deceitfuldescender

    Sitzmark

This is definitely a nice rich hot chocolate and a big dollop of fat marshmallows. I get no alcohol. I am not sure I will upgrade to a bottle (Chad fills basically all my chocolate needs, period) buuut I will retest and reassess. Might be worth it for the marshmallows on top.
  17. Deceitfuldescender

    Gingerbread, Tobacco, & Tonka

This dries down to a lot of tobacco (a nice one), a highlight of tonka, and deep underneath, gingerbread spices. I wish desperately the gingerbread stayed longer because before full dry down was really lovely.

    Thorns Clove Cigarette

This smells exactly like a clove cigarette. When I was 20, I went to a lot of goth clubs and events and took to smoking these until they got banned. Sweet strong clove, a hint of black paper and an undercurrent of tobacco. Clove is the Star here and it is dangerously close to clove single note. Close, but not exact. If you were ever a goth kid and want to relive the scent of clove cigarettes in the broody air while wearing black and lots of hair gel, this is your scent.
  19. Deceitfuldescender

Coffee, Brown Sugar, Cream, & Honey

This is a nice enough scent. A gentle coffee that is definitely blended with cream (that does not go funky or plastic on me) that is predominantly brown sugar as the main thing I can smell. I cannot get any honey to come out. This is pleasant but not distinct enough to warrant a bottle.
  20. Deceitfuldescender

    Hay & Clove

A very nice clove tempered by an almost creamy hay. It helps takes the bite out of the clove and keep it from going wild. Surprisingly pleasant.
  21. Deceitfuldescender

    Waltzing Matilda

So I must amp fig because this is all fig on me with only the lightest dusting of vanilla. It also has a sort of perfumey edge that I do not prefer in my perfumes, so I will likely pass the decant on.
  22. Deceitfuldescender

    Sri Lankan Lime

This is a wonderful, fresh, not candy like, bright lime. Really a perfect citrus. Unfortunately my skin devours this and it is gone in 10-15 minutes. I will try it in a scent locket maybe?
  23. Deceitfuldescender

    Raspberry & Red Benzoin

Raspberry on the edge of being candy. Like, really sweet. Really really sweet. Good strong raspberry flavor with something backing it that seems to double down on the sweet.
  24. Deceitfuldescender

    Colemanite Phoenix

My darned skin chemistry betrays me here. This appears to be a sage single not on me BUT for some reason my skin reads it as pine. So this is pine with like a trace of sand. So disappointing as I had really high hopes for this.
  25. Deceitfuldescender

    Gingerbread & Candyfloss

This is delightful. A sort of cakey, not too spicy, very gentle gingerbread that has been spun into candy floss (similar to cotton candy). This is somewhere related to Midway (not a dupe but in the same family) but with gingerbread instead of funnel cake and no taffy. Somehow manages to not be overwhelmingly foody? Not super sweet? This isn’t like a cake scent with frosting that makes your teeth ache. This is very understated. Throw is extremely low and staying power seems lowish too.
