    Storm Moon

Storm Moon is the perfect "get out of the perfume rut" blend. I've noticed that nearly all of the oils I order are the same jasmine floral. Until, that is, I tried Storm Moon. This is so...I don't know...."powerful" comes to mind. If I focus my thoughts I think I could shoot lightning bolts from my fingertips. I absolutely adore this.

    The Moon

Although The Moon is not my most favorite of the Tarot oils, I have found it very effective for dreamwork. I tend to use BPAL blends more for perfume, as opposed to any kind of ceremonial or ritual work. However, The Moon is a beautiful sleepytime blend with incredible staying power. I've used the Moon in my hair at night & wake smelling just like expensive chocolate. Now I know that no one has mentioned smelling chocolate in The Moon but hey, I'm a bit strange.

    'Second Skin' Scents

On me the "second skin scents" are definitely Bastet, Coyote & The Lion. At a certain time of the month, Sea of Glass is too.

    Job Interview Recommendations

Both my husband (albeit unknowingly) & myself have had excellent results with Crucible of Courage. If you aren't sure, try using a dowser to help you narrow it down to the best one to wear for your highest good.

    Job Interview Recommendations

I second & third so many suggestions to "go easy" on the fragrance. Here are my suggestions: Cheshire Cat Hamadryad Horn of Plenty Think, "light, clear & confident". I'd actually suggest putting Hamadryad on the soles of your feet. It's wonderfully grounding.

What to do when oil gets in a child's eye?

The doctor say's she's ok; just very upset & her eyes are really red. She was a brave girl & let the eye doctor put drops in her eyes (which she would never allow before). No damage to her eye, thank goodness. Poor girl, she gets herself even more upset. Imagine an 8 year old (our sleepover guest) & my 7 year old screaming at the top of their lungs: "Am I going to die?" Sofie tends to be, how shall we say, "dramatic". Not that this wasn't a valid concern but I had to get the girls to calm down, so I could find out what happened. It scared her, me too. I still think she & Miranda were jumping on the trundle bed when this happened. Finney, thanks for the list of ingredients for Cheshire Cat. I printed the post & took it with me to the doctor. Thanks everyone, especially Beth, Anthony & Kennedy!

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Yeah, I saw that too. I don't know who it is though.
  10. Siren is definitely #1 for throw on me. Close seconds are: Horn of Plenty, Sugar Skull, Snake Oil, Sin & Medea.

    Wolf Moon 2004

Wolf Moon is a sly one. There's the initial piney woods: which reminds me of walking in a snowy forest in the full moonlight. Cold, crisp, clear but if you breathe too deeply you might feel a little lightheaded. Wolf Moon drys down to an absolutely crystaline floral. It's not going to "shout" at anyone but you know it's there. Edited to add that this reminds me of Wolf's Heart but only in the floral drydown stage but much subtler. Very, very nice!

    Aquatics

Sea of Glass & Black Pearl would be my suggestions. I've tried them both & think you would like them. Quite a few of the Lunar blends smell "aquatic" on me, especially "Blue Moon", if you can find it. Here are some more from the BPAL web site. I searched on "aquatic". Ars Draconis Dragon's Tears Bittersweet yet powerful: salty aquatic notes and bursting with dragon's blood. (Gender neutral) Green / Leafy / Herbal Ozone / Marine / Fresh Resin / Incense / Smoky Bewitching Brews La Bella Donna Della Mia Mente Soft, lush myrtle and dry, sweet melilot with wild rose, pomegranate juice and peach blossom against a background of deep aquatic notes and a twirl of melancholy autumn breezes. (Gender neutral) Floral Fruity Bewitching Brews Shattered A scent as sharp as glass shards, and as brittle as a broken heart. The formula came to me - quite literally - in a dream, and is named after, and created in memory of, the last poem that I ever wrote… almost ten years ago to the day. A blend of white champagne notes, grapefruit, lotus, slivered mint and crystalline aquatic blooms. (Gender neutral) Green / Leafy / Herbal Bewitching Brews Ulalume Starry white lilies lend an eerie brightness to the deep black wooded scents of cypress and oak, layered with a touch of crushed dried leaves and the faintest aquatic note. Floral Woody / Chypre Love Potions The Lady Of Shalott The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger. (Gender neutral) Floral Green / Leafy / Herbal Ozone / Marine / Fresh Wanderlust Bayou A lazy, warm deep green scent with a thick aquatic undertone: Spanish moss, evergreen and cypress with watery blue-green notes and an eddy of hothouse flowers and swamp blooms. (Gender neutral) Floral Green / Leafy / Herbal Ozone / Marine / Fresh Wanderlust Danube Rhododendron and bellflower petals swirl through deep, cool, dark aquatic notes. Ozone / Marine / Fresh Wanderlust R'lyeh Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. The sunken city of the Great God Cthulhu. A hellishly dark aquatic scent, evocative of fathomless oceanic deeps, the mysteries of madness buried under crushing black waters, and the brooding eternal evil that lies beneath the waves. (Gender neutral) Fruity Ozone / Marine / Fresh

    Ra

Ra makes me happy, very happy. It's "fresh" & "clean" smelling on me with a bit of "ooomph"! Upon rereading, this doesn't really seem like a "review". It is, however, exactly how I feel when wearing Ra.

    La Belle au Bois Dormant

I think you have to be "in the mood" to wear La Belle Au Bois Dormant. It's very sweet on me & as a result, I tend to wear it in the evenings. The pear note is particularly strong in the forefront. (Note to self: my sister would absolutely LOVE this!) The magnolia & tuberose blend beautifully with the plumeria. Plumeria can easily be overdone & has, in the past given me headaches. Not so, with La Belle Au Bois Dormant! All of these sweet florals are anchored by the Damascus Rose. It's the rose which gives this blend it's extraordinary staying power & silage. I've not particularly noticed the "morning dew" note. Aquatics, in general do well with my skin chemistry but then again, so do florals. If you don't usually care for aquatics but love florals & pear, this is the blend for you! Update 6-3-05: LBaBD has become one of my absolute favorite BPAL blends. I reach for it most often just before I go to sleep. This is one of only TWO blends which has gotten compliments from my husband.

    Help with Jasmine scents, please!

I love jasmine scents. My first jasmine love is Siren. It does have an apricot note but tends to show itself more in warmer weather on me. Bewitching Brews: Eos, Euphrosyne, Nyx, Phantasm, Queen Mab (don't miss this one) Sophia & Wilde to name but a few. Enjoy!

    White Rabbit

This is an odd one for me to describe. I wore it to the Museum of Modern Art on Saturday in the blizzard. Not that that makes any difference; it's just that I was indoors and in a crowd. When I held my wrist up for me to sniff White Rabbit, I wasn't terribly impressed. However, I've never worn a "tea" fragrance before, so I have no basis for comparison. The strangest thing kept happening to me. As I strolled around the galleries with my family, I would catch a wiff of the most incredibly beautiful "cologne". I stopped myself on several occassions as I was about to ask a handsome man, "What ARE you wearing?" Guess what, it was ME! I chased the silage of White Rabbit all over the museum before I realized "Hey, it's me that smells so good!" I don't think I'll use up all of my 5ml but I'd definitely want an Imp of it around.

    Medea

Have you seen the movie, When Harry Met Sally? Do you recall the scene in the diner where Meg Ryan pretends to be having an orgasm? Medea reminds me of that. No really, it does. It's positively orgasmic. (Everyone else covered the notes so well, I thought I'd add my little bit.) Update 2-11-05: Medea is now refferred to as the official "pretty" perfume in my house. For example: "Mama will you wear that pretty perfume today?" "Mama you smell so pretty!" You get the idea. Medea will be a staple fragrance from now on.

Looking for something along the lines of Michael

Tuberose really stands out in Michael, so my suggestions are around this note first. Funeral Oils Nocturne An olfactory serenede. A somber, contemplative scent -- dreamy and subdued. Deepest violet touched with lilac and tuberose. Love Potions Delight In ancient India it was believed that a specific combination of flower petals, when strewn across a couple's bed, would amplify desire and sexual pleasure. This blend is a blend of the same floral essences, refined into a gloriously sinful perfume blend. Frangipani, with rose, tuberose, and jasmine. Love Potions Muse A light, invigorating floral and citrus blend. Tuberose, lotus and jasmine with a hint of lime. I think this might be your best choice in the tuberose group. Unfortunately, it's too new for there to be any reviews. Love Potions La Belle Au Bois Dormant The Sleeping Beauty. A gentle, lovely scent, slightly soporific, but beautiful in its quiet repose. Plumeria and white pear, Damascus rose, tuberose, magnolia and evening dew. Osmanthus is a favorite of mine. Here are some excellent choices for Osmanthus. Bewitching Brews Kali Kali, the Black One, is the fearless Goddess of Destruction, Creation, Energy [in her Shakti aspect] and Dissolution. Also named Kaliratri [black Night] and Kalikamata [black Earth-Mother], she is the fiercest aspect of Devi, the supreme mother goddess. Kali is a protector Goddess, the destroyer of evil spirits and guardian of the faithful. She, along with her consort Shiva, represent the unending cycle of death and birth, sexual union, creation and destruction. Kali annihilates ignorance, maintains the natural order of the world, and blesses those who strive for spiritual awareness and knowledge of true holiness with infinite tenderness and motherly love. The constant, unending Work of Creation is called the "The Play of Kali". This perfume is a blend of the sacred blooms of cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey. The tobacco is notable in this one. Kali is a favorite of mine. Bewitching Brews Ouija Lush parlor rooms draped in thick velvets and gilded in gold, unearthly whispering in the distance, fleeting flashes of wraithlike figures rushing just outside your vision, the chill of a phantom presence brushing by your cheek, the inscrutable knowledge that disembodied eyes are peering at you from darkened corners… this is the essence of Victorian-era spiritualism: rosewood, oak and teak notes with wispy blue lilac, tea rose, dried white rose and ethereal osmanthus. Illyria Cordelia The essence of faith, love and devotion: lilac, lemon, green tea, wisteria, osmanthus, white cedar, and Chinese musk. You don't hear much about this one & I suspect it's one of those "hidden Bpal gems". The best choice of this bunch is Queen Mab, IMO. Bewitching Brews Queen Mab Warrior, Trickster and Goddess of Magic and Poets, she is one of the Tuatha De Danaan and the Queen of the Faeries. A very complex scent, both shadowy and fierce: black orchid, sandalwood, night-blooming jasmine, osmanthus, Somalian rose, and Chinese musk. Have fun choosing!

    Leather

Perversion most definitly. My next favorites are Severin & Whip. I don't think you would go wrong with any of these.

    Springtime scents

Sea of Glass, if you like "aquatics". Sophia, if you like lavender. Black Rose or Red Rose, for the obvious. Queen Mab for jasmine & osmanthus. Siren (in very tiny amounts) for jasmine, vanilla & apricot.
  21. Red_Hot_Mama

    Sophia

Lavender is NOT a favorite perfume of mine but I respect it's theraputic properties. Jasmine IS a favorite & my daughter is named "Sofia": so this was a no brainer for me. The lavender is the first note & by far the most prominent. The jasmine does make an appearance but for a die hard jasmine freak like me, I would have like a bit less lavender & a bit more jasmine. The black rose makes itself know on the drydown & it, along with the soft musks & spice give Sophia some "staying power". I'm not sure what delphinium smells like & can't really pick it out. My chemistry tends to amplify jasmine, in any form. Ultimately, I would use this theraputically rather than as a perfume. Edited to add that my daughter has confiscated my Imp of Sophia. She says I can "borrow it sometime". Needless to say, I just purchased a 5ml for her so I can get my Imp back. This is an excellent blend to use with children. IMO Sofie is 7 & I've used lavender essential oil on her since she was an infant.

    Nyx

Ok, I admit I am a jasmine freak. I love jasmine, jasmine loves me. Nyx is one I have been wanting to try for a long time & thanks to shewaselectric, I was able to. Nyx is absolutely stunning on me: all soft jasmine & sweet rose. The myrrh "anchors" this blend beautifully. This is sweet, heady floral goodness. If you don't like florals, you won't like Nyx. If you love jasmine & rose, as I do....this is heavenly.

    Snow White

Let me begin by saying that I am on thyroid medication (all the time) & antibiotics right now. I'm sure they will effect the blend. Here's what I smell: Wet: mint & loads of it, icy, cool with a tiny hint of fruit. Dry: floral, lighter mint & a wee bit of something musky. My daughter asked if I was wearing "Playdoh". That about says it all. I'll try this again in about 10 days & see if it's any different.

Which Tarot fragrance is for me?

You've got to try The World. I think you would like it very much, especially in colder weather. Check out the reviews.

    Ice Queen

I was on the fence about Ice Queen...until today. It's all the things mentioned above, especially the Yankee Candle association. However, I often judge a fragrance by the reaction I receive from others. It was this that won me over to the lovely Ice Queen. I thought I smelled like "Snow Angels" (cough, cough) but noooo. Here's what happened. It's been cold here, that's an understatement, it's been incredibly cold here. This morning I stood at the end of driveway (as usual) waiting with my second grader for her bus to arrive. She normally rides her scooter up & down the driveway; yes, even in the cold. Today she had her nose pushed up the sleeve of my coat. I thought her nose was cold & she was keeping it warm. Silly me! She pulls her face away, has a big, beautiful smile on her face & says "You smell WONDERFUL!" And she promptly stuck her nose up my sleeve again. The smile on my girls' face was enough to make me love the Ice Queen.
