    Rumpelstilzchen

I was really hoping something good for this one, but none of the spices are coming out, which I think would offset the strong cedar chest smell. Its not a nasty scent, its just rather boring at this point, and has a definite wintergreenish type zing in there...and I do not care for my perfume to smell like cleaner. The best description for this is it smells just like those little log cabin incense houses...and the incense burned which was very much just plain cedar or hickory or other wood. I wish the vetiver or patchouli would come out and say hi. I would be happier with it.

    Elegba

This is doing exactly what Ogun did and its scary...maybe all these particular Excolo scents have a similar base? Anyway, its changing rapidly from a warm, sweet coconut to something with a tang. DO not care for it at this point. Also, definitely getting a scalded milk scent in background....it helps, but not enough.

    Wrath

Ugh...so much sweet Dragon's Blood (amping like usual), and too much pepper...ugh...peppery incensey candy. Not for me.

    The Little Bird

I love this little scent...from the name to the gentle green notes and subtle berry underneath. I am sad it fades so quickly, so its a melancholy scent for me as well. How appropro! I re-applied it and the 2nd time just doused myself with it. It stayed quite awhile, but the over-applying brought on faint powdery tinges that I dislike...so I feel if I am to get a bottle of this subtle sweetness, i will expect to not have it stay very long after each application...

    Glasgow

Really great staying power! It smells exactly like the description...and ends up with a nice green note after wearing awhile. I think a little goes a long way on me though, so next time I try it, I will use way less! All in all, nice. Good for warm weather.

    Event Horizon

Yuck. It is dark, heavy, a cloying, thick smokiness and it almost had a similar effect as Troll. But I quickly washed it off before it would make me puke.

    Silver Phoenix

Ahhh...received this as a frimp from someone in a swap thread...wish I could recall who! This is a beauty - it has all the complexity, but none of the bad amping or morphing! It feels light, herbal, and slightly wet, shining, and indeed silvery...another of BPAL's scents that truly gives me a vision. It also reminds me faintly of a perfume oil I used several years ago called Spring Rain...I ran out of it, or got rid of it because it got too old, but it was a refreshing, bright, springy scent that always bolstered my spirits. That's what this does. Its a very complex and unique herbal scent, with undertone of a light incense. I hope I can find a bottle!!

    Pele

I'm glad the florals didn't turn to powder for once. This actually smells very much like the old Avon scent, Hawaiian White Ginger. Thats not a bad thing by any means, and it had staying power and didn't morph too much, and I kept catching whiffs of a pleasant scent throughout the day...so I think this is a keeper, if not a bottle, at least the imp

    Brisingamen

Another one that has such potential, I relal can sense the richness here, but the ambers and their powdery notes just kill it for me. So sad. If it werent for the darn powder...

    Phantasm

Lemon verbena and neroli...nothing else. after that, it fades.

    Vixen

I absolutely love patchouli...but its completely hidden by sweet powder...so sad because it sounded so promising

    Olokun

testing florals is a crapshoot - where the dice are set against me. At first this was a sweet orange blossom scent, kinda nice, but truly artificial...it has now morphed to a fresh aquatic floral and is fading fast.

    Ulalume

Testing a floral is a lot like not passing judgment on someone you know is going to screw you over eventually. Ulalume, the notes sound interesting, yes, but the burst of menthol/wintergreen-ishness really took me to an institutional setting where elders wear their old florals in between massaging tiger balm on their extremities. It drys down to a soft powdery version of that. 'Nother one bites the dust.

    Hades

An intriguing scent that leaves me with visions of the far east, perhaps after an ancient war. The scent stays resinous, with a deep, sugary floral tone, but the spice brings that under control. The ambergris, which usually amps on me, is held under control by the salty, tangy note that I can only think is an incense of some sort. I see deep ocean where the fires from the earth burst forth. Places we can barely imagine...sunken, burned Atlantis, the spewing of Vesuvius. As intriguing as it is, its just not a scent for me, but I will keep the imp for future use. EDIT - much later I realized this scent wasn't for me...the same salty sour smell that made almost retch in TROLL is also in here, altho much weaker. Still, just dont think I can handle it :-(

    Crossroads

The only thing I get from this is that A little old lady works at the Crossroads, and she smells like this. A very old floral perfume that is overpowering and awful on me. Asked my husband what he thought: you smell like an old lady. Lovely.

    Strangler Fig

A very interesting scent, to be sure! When I had 1st tried the imp, it was too much for me, and I've let it sit with the other imps awaiting testing for a few weeks now. Today after showering off all the other scents Ive been testing, I tried it. It is like fresh cut tree boughs, the saplings, the suckers, those ones you want to kill...I grew up with a fruit tree orchard in CA, and am familiar with the scent of cut suckers. So Im impressed since this is Strangler Fig, a parasitic force of nature. The greenness has a light sweetness, and I was scared because I caught whiff of cedar, but its not amping, TG!. I am getting powderiness, which i really dislike and attribute to cedar...but the fig in this is also JUST LIKE the Fresh, slightly unripe figs I would pick off the ground in our orchard. Really interesting...kinda cool! Not sure if I will buy more...will live with this imp for a bit and see how it smells later. If the greenness and sweetness arent overpowered by powder, its a definite keeper. EDIT - later i realized the cedar was overpowering the other scents I love..which sucks! I dont want a cedar scent...I want the earlier green fig. Oh Well!

    Bluebeard

Ahhh. bellisimo, gem of a scent! I had a feeling about this one because it is similar to Saturnalia, my current signature scent...and this one tops it. I was pretty thrilled to put it on and discover that vetiver and violets really do work the same magic over and over! The scent went through a couple changes, and there was a point at the beginning I thought I smelled a man's B.O., but not in a bad way...you know, when you snuggle up to a man who has been working all day? That kind of salty skin musk. The violets and vetiver create a dark, husky, brooding scent, that becomes incredibly sexy and normal for me! What changes it from Saturnalia, lightens, yet deepens the complexity, is the musk and lavender. A total unisex scent if you're brave enough for it!

    Bloodlust

When first applying, all the richness of this scent comes out, and I love it! It totally made me think it would work, especially considering the notes listed... But it morphs within an hour to amp the dragon's blood and red musk, and its just too sweet, with maybe a touch of saltiness ...but not enough to cut that sweet stuff...the complexity is completely gone.
  19. Bengal is a luscious sweet, spicy mixture that reminds me of Oregon Chai ...

    Intrigue

Was hopeful by the notes listed, but of course the cedar has to overpower everyone else, and make this just too much a dry woody sweet scent that reminds me of Home Depot. Phooey.
  21. I think you should check out Blood Kiss and Fairy Wine too!

    Blood Kiss

Hmmmmm...yum....delightful delectable deliciousness... Some how I received 2 imps...one new one aged...they are quite different, and look different too (the old one is much darker and has a much stronger deeper patchouli scent). Let me just say, these smell almost completely different...And Im enjoying the new version much better...it reminds almost exactly of Hand of Glory...I get the honey and the wine, and its a warm, sensual unique scent that somehow works perfectly with my chemistry. The older version is very much not sweet, not getting the honey, and its a much more masculine scent. Very interesting! This is my first foray into the wonders of comparing aged vs new. LATER: Interesting - I kept getting whiffs of really good cherry cola or or Dr Pepper. You'd think that would be annoying, but its actually a really rich scent.

    Bengal

A delicious spicey brew...if you like spiciness, this is your scent! This is all spice...its like taking a chai bath! And that for me, would be just fine! I cant see myself wearing this all the time because its kind of sweet too (but my skin seems to amp all musks of any kind), but for something when you want to feel hot and spicy...yeah, baby!
  24. Greenwoodtree

    Fairy Wine

mmmmm...what can I say...Im always hesitant with anything that might hint at florals...but this is pure deliciousness, perfect for warmer weather. Upon putting on my skin, it was sweet currants, very obviously, and honey wine...we brew mead at our house, so we are well aware what honey wine smells like! As much as I stay miles away from such lighthearted scents as this, I love it!! It later became a warm, slightly fruity skin scent...I cant wait to get a bottle so I can slather myself all over with it!

    Clémence

Ahhh...simply bellisimo...beautiful...perfect little spicy scent that seems to balance perfectly on my skin...finally!! I LOVE this scent...not too sweet, too spicy or too patchouli. It becomes a scent that blends in with my skin so that it seems like it belongs there naturally. Deliciousness, and simplicity in one! (this kind of scent was a hard one to find - and was a frimp from another member on here...lucky me - I think I went through 3 dozen smells to find this.)
