    Different smells/colors, same perfume

^^Me too. Maybe we got some interesting new prototype...

This is the response I just received from the awesome Bill in customer service:

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

I emailed the Lab as well. Waiting on a response. I received my 2nd bottle in a swap, but while it's very pretty, I wanted a backup of the red musk version.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I did get a Guerlain Shalimar feel from Haunted. I liked it and wanted to re-test, but I accidentally sent it away. I want to try it again to see if it's bottle-worthy.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

There are two versions. I received a bottle from a swap and it was a honeyed cream scent, with the usual golden colored oil. The bottle I purchased from the Lab when the weenies were released is dark red oil, and smells like heavy red musk and honey.

    Pannychis

I don't get any sandalwood or blackcurrant from this. Only jasmine and musty cardamom. OK...when it's dry I smell berries, but it's nor worth the intense jasmine while it's wet.

    The Harlot's House

Two "white" notes in any blend are usually a deal-breaker for me, but this one is a morpher. It smells sharply white floral in the imp, but I tried it on anyway, because of the oakmoss. It smells like sweet tea, white florals, and delicious musty oakmoss. As it's drying, I smell a sweet, light violet floral, then it morphs again to balsam, then violet floral...I'm strangely possessed to keep this imp because this isn't your run-of-the-mill white floral.

    Block Buster

I keep telling you, Cinnamon...No means No! I also smell faint rosemary, or a similar herb, and apples. I can't do cinnamons, so this won't work for me.

    Dirty

Freshly laundered cotton sheets and linens, sun-dried in a garden. White but not sharp scent. Faintly dryer-sheets. I don't do "clean" scents, so off to the swaps pile this goes.

    Lilium Inter Spinas

Earthy-figgy green floral with a faint apple note. I can't skin-test this, because fig and I don't get along.

    Black Dahlia

I love lush florals when they are blended with something smoky or resinous. The juice in the imp smelled very medicinal, almost like floral cherry cough syrup. I smell magnolia, rose, amber, and smoke. No jasmine. Drying down, it starts to develop a candy sweetness as the florals fade away. Pretty, but not a keeper.

    Kitsune-Tsuki

White musk and jasmine almost never work on me. This blend is no different, even with a juicy ripe plum note. It's pretty, but not for me.

    The Coil

I love the color of the oil. Fresh, light green. Wet, it smells like mouthwash. I did a mini patch test on a finger and now it smells like an "ocean" scented plug-in air freshener, and mouthwash. Aquatics aren't my friends.

    Love-In-Idleness

Very strong, borderline sweet floral. Somewhat chemical, soapy, and powdery...and very difficult to wash off.

    The Dodo

Smells like Tiger Balm in the imp. On my skin...cloves? It's cassia, which smells like woody cinnamon to me and I amp cinnamon. That's all I can smell, and I smell like craft store and plastic. Where's the red musk? Mango? How funny, I wore MB: Underbed again to re-test and the cassia was so perfect with chocolate and coconut, but cassia in this blend doesn't work with me.

    Alice

Freebie from an order on the forums, the perfume was attached to a card with the note descriptions. I've never seen one of those. It's an innocent milk and honey floral. Neither the carnation nor rose stand out, everything is blended very well. I'm glad the milk note didn't go rancid on my skin like it did with White Rabbit. I can picture "Alice" smelling like this, and I would like this more but my skin ate it up in under a minute.

    Shub-Niggurath

Shub-Niggurath was one of the first decants I received from a forumite. I'm surprised I never reviewed it! I have the very aged decant, and a fresh imp from the Lab. The decant contains a very deep amber oil that is very syrupy, and the Lab version is lighter oil of normal consistency. The newer imp is a deep, spicy ginger, with not much sugar. The oil in the decant is much sweeter, and the ginger is a bit more mellow, but not enough to say that it lost it's bite. I have a couple other ginger based perfumes (Ginger Skulls & Flesh Eating Reindeer), but this is the KING. I wish I knew whether the decant was the original Shub...

    Sugar Skull

I'm reviewing the 2010 version now. This bottle is less floral than 2005. I didn't notice the floral until I smelled them side-by-side. 2010 is also a little more spicy. Both versions are delicious on me, and they last forever.

    Gypsy

I'm wondering what everyone is raving about, and I finally received a full decant of this as a freebie to test. It's a plasticky vanilla, very flat and musty. Cardamom must be giving it the musty, dusty smell, which is surprising because it works so beautifully in Cat Allingham. Several hours later...this is still flat, musty vanilla. ETA: I have to admit this perfume ages wonderfully. My initial impression was not good. I retested the same imp last month and fell in love with this dusty vanilla beauty. The vanilla deepened and blended so well with musk, and there's a bit of spiciness with the cardamom. It still has a plasticky quality but it doesn't last long after application and is rather comforting. I think Beth did a wonderful job of making this smell like a fuzzy gypsy moth.

    Luna

Limeade with heaps of raw sugar and delicate Asian pear. There's a hint of spiciness from carnation, and the thyme and green musk are evading my senses but just barely. This is delicious and perfect for Summer. Going on the bottle wish list.

I love blackberry, but the heather is turning this into blackberry laundry soap. There's a green-ness to this but the greens don't compliment the blackberry like they do so wonderfully in Bewitched.

    Pirate Moon

There is so much going on with this blend that I don't know where to start. Leather, cigar-smoke infused wood, balsam, tropical breeze carrying the scent of coconut, salt water crusted-skin, and glorious red musk. I know this is what Captain Jack Sparrow smells like. Ahoy, me want t' rip his clothes off, Arrr!!!

    Tin Foil Hat

I received this generous frimp in a package, and I'm thrilled because it reminds me of Declaration by Cartier. It's metallic and ozone without being aquatic, and there's is a bit of fougere which I recognize from Dorian. As it dries down, this starts to get sweeter on my skin. It's really sexy and comforting.

    Wanton

I love trying out new rose blends (mixed with other florals-bad, mixed with resins, musks, woods-good) so it was nice to receive this very aged imp in a package. This is an incensy, woody rose. Patchouli is barely noticeable, giving the blend an earthy feel. I think Spellbound won me over as the best musky-resin rose BPAL ever though.

    French Love

A warm, soft, sexual blend. Sweet and alluring. Used to entice new lovers and add an aura of temptation and carnal sin to your environment. Ahh, the unmistakable color of Dragon's Blood in the imp. It smells like Dragon's Blood and lilac. DB is pretty in small amounts, but combined with lilac the whole blend is very overpowering.
