Updated 15 February 2010. What is everyone's take on Valentine's Day? I do like Valentine's Day. It's way overcommercialized, but I do love sending valentines and baking for Molly. Do you like traditional Valentine's Day colors (red, pink, white, more?)? Pink is my least favourite colour objectively, but if done well it can be very attractive. Pink with black, and pink with brown are both are classic. I do love red and white is fine. What's everyone's favorite semi-obscure animal? Platypus! What is your favorite sign that spring is coming? I knit, but I never manage to actually finish knitting anything for myself! I'll be thrilled with anything, and I will actually use it, I promise! Homemade Sewn Stuff? Any fabrics to avoid? Oh, I used to be decent at sewing, but now I don't even have a machine. Bring on the sewn stuff--I absolutely love handmade things! I don't have any fabrics that I particularly dislike, the only caveat is that I'm allergic to laundry detergent that's not free/clear. No big deal if you use the regular stuff, let me know and I can just wash it when I get it! Think Geek plush microbes? I love ThinkGeek, I'm drinking coffee out of my caffeine thermos right now, actually. The little plushy microbes are so cute! I'm not sure what I'd do with them, but I'm sure I'd think of something if you sent me one. Kitchen gadgetry Oh, I'd love a microplane/micrograter for zesting citrus, grinding nutmeg, shredding parm, et cetera! I love kitchen stuff, I'm a huge Alton Brown fan. I lust after his cookbooks. (Also, kitchen confession: I don't own a food processor. ) Mardi Gras - We tend to not celebrate it due to an unfortunate event that happened to coincide with the holiday. But I love the colours! Would you like new nail polish? If so, what colors are you craving? I've been wanting to add to my red nail polish stash lately, so I'm eyeing the two new reds from the new OPI collection (Thanks So Muchness, and Off With Her Red). Like LitaPhoenix, I'm super pale and love to wear striking colours. My red nail polish is nearly a collection of its own. I also love green (especially spring green), blue, purple, black, and grey/silver. I could really use some sort of anti-chipping stuff, since my nails are genetically super-flexible. Do you like incense and/or scented candles, and are you able to burn them in your home? I love scented candles, and tend to prefer sweet/fruity scents. I love A Scent of Scandal. Yankee Candles tend to not be my favourite. Boxes? For Bpal (bottles and/or imps) or otherwise. Yay, boxes! I need a better bottle box, and I desperately need an imp box. They're everywhere!!! Seriously. Do you like alcoholic beverages? If so, what is your preference (beer, wine, liquor...)? I like all three kinds of alcohol. My favourites are white wine, microbrews, Granny Smith Apple Woodchuck, flavored vodka, and good whiskey. Okay, I was going to say yes, but now I'm terrified. Paintbox Soaps? Yes, definitely! The last kind I tried was a blend of Jasmine Dragon Pearl and Rooibos Tropica (my first venture into a mall that had a Teavana, ). The only caveat is that chamomile gives me a headache. S/he looks down and sees [insert impossibly rare item that you've always wanted but could never afford] with a $5-10 sticker on it. Sheepishly s/he takes it to the guy behind the folding table. "Do you know what this is?" s/he inquires. The gentleman states that it belonged to his mother/sister/grandmother/Great Aunt Beulah and he thinks it's for, like, hair or something. With a trembling hand, s/hes pays the man and heads home with the inconceivable riches. My unobtainium is a gorgeous, unusual place to hang earrings. Digging through my bucket o' earrings can be vexing, and they always have handmade ones at one of the stores I love (Cocoanut Jewelry), but they're always like $100. :| Or one of those fancy cooking thermometers Alton Brown has. Or maybe just a solid, cast-iron Dutch Oven. Or, if we're going the BPAL route, it's a pretty box full of paper, but underneath is a bottle of Mitzvah, Spanked, De Sade, or any bottle off of my wishlist, really. Price List? Meh. If that's something you really want to do, do it! If it's not, that's fine with me, too. Keys? I love keys. If I had enough of them I would decorate with them. I honestly don't care, as long as I have a witch and am not forgotten. Ninja-witching is fun, wondering when they'll strike, what they'll do, how long they'll wait. I'm not opposed to anything baked, vegan or otherwise, unless it contains pork. For those that have dogs, if I were to knit them a sweater, what colour would you like it to be? No dog, and my cat would loathe it if I tried to sweater him. hair stuff? My hair is long and fine, and I just don't have a bunch of it, so a smaller clip would be fun. None of Your Beeswax! Home-canned goods? As long as they're tasty! Is there anything you've had to give up that you really miss or want back? Buying Thirteens and lunacies. I used to buy them all the time, every month unless it sounded like something that wouldn't work for me. But, since my health went downhill and I can't work in most jobs , I just don't have the funds anymore. I got lucky and wasn't super excited about the last few lunacies of 2009, and I've picked up decants where I could. Not being able to order the November 13 was hard, since I liked the notes in it, and not being able to order Candles Moon is killing me. It sounds SO good! Hmm, that answer sort of got away from me there. Sorry. What animal would be your Patronus? I'd love to say something like a jaguar, but it would probably look just like my cat Spot. He's gotten me through the toughest part of my life, and is the most special creature I've ever had the good fortune to live with. (And he's curled up on the leopard-print chaise next to me, sleeping with his tail keeping his little nose warm. D'awwww.) This is exactly how I would feel about getting another decant of any of my Valentine wishes. Especially since most of them are not full decants, and they're of scents that I'm not likely to ever see any more of ever again. Do you have any personal heroes/heroines? Why? David Tennant. He is a brilliant, talented, resilient, and amazing actor. And why? Because he watched Doctor Who as a kid, and wanted to do that. And he really did! This skinny, geeky, Scottish bloke is suddenly a heartthrob? Geek really is the new hot. I was an actor for the exact same reason, and even though I'm not skinny, or acting now, he's still this geeky Scottish chick's hero. Are there any languages or countries that you're really interested in? I studied abroad in London in college, and I still miss living there. I miss it hugely. I loved visiting Edinburgh as well. But I love languages, and I wish I could learn them all! I'm still conversant in ASL, though I used to be fluent, and I've studied Latin, Greek, and Russian. I really do want to catch up on my signing again, though (so no time to learn French and Italian and...yeah). If you could be in any fictional universe, what would it be? (Harry Potter, Firefly, Lord of the Rings, Silent Hill, wtv.) My desire to be in a fictional universe is very conditional. Doctor Who IF I can meet The Doctor (and therefore have a shot at being a companion). Harry Potter IF I'm a wizard. Gardening? Salted chocolate in the bottle. On my skin it's chocolate, salt water, and a hint of incense. It reminds me of Left His Nurse While in a Crowd only saltier. I love it!

So I tried out The Chapel, and wow--it is almost a dead ringer for to Chilling Cellar. On me, it's basically the same scent with a little more wine. I'm loving it!

On me, this is chocolate buttercream musk with a tiny hint of berry. I will elaborate further when I put more on after Doctor Who.

In bottle: Redcurrant, red fruit, red wine, (bit of a theme going on ) and a hint of something a little darker--maybe plum? Wet: Oh my goodness--this is SO good. It's redcurrant juice in plum wine. With just a hint of other berries. This is fantastic! It's not sticky-sweet and has a pectin smell like red swedish fish, but I don't think of this as a foody scent. I think I'm going to slather this one for the holiday gift exchange party tonight! Dry: Booze? What booze? This is the perfect "red" scent on me. With a little bit of throw, which I usually don't get from the sweeter scents. Hurrah! I'm looking forward to providing a loving home for the unwanted bottles of this one!

In the bottle, this is vanilla sugar. Once I put it on, though, it smells EXACTLY like a marshmallow. Like I'm holding a big fat marshmallow up to my nose. Sweet, sugary, light, and I swear I can even smell the powdered sugar dust on the outside. This is utterly amazing. It stays the same on me from wet to dry, too. Honest-to-God marshmallow. I just can't get over it. I need more!

In the bottle, this is strong (probably the cologne-y benzoin) and dark. The patchouli is hanging around hiding in the smoke, too. On my skin, this warms quickly, with the chili leaping to the fore and the vanilla and patchouli smoke touching everything just enough. As it dries, it goes a bit powdery (I'm guessing the resins include amber), but the spiciness of the chili and the smokiness both save this one from turning into a powder scent on me. I may need a bottle of this!

In the bottle, this is exactly what the description suggests, but Liz has one hell of a backbone. Once I had it on, it became warm, dry spicy vanilla musk perfume with a backbone of leather over something strong-feeling. I'm not really getting the smoke at all--just a spiciness that I can't identify. I wasn't expecting this one to be so dry and spicy, almost like cologne, but I definitely like it.

Wet, this is definitely redcurrant and vanilla with some molasses and a little patchouli. On me, this is mostly redcurrant and vanilla cream. I was worried that this was going to do the horrible plastic thing that Bloody Mary did (still don't know what caused that particular disaster), but no, it stayed true--mostly redcurrant with vanilla cream and hints of patchouli and maybe a little molasses. Dry, it's all redcurrant and cream. Far less foody that I'd expected, but definitely fantastic, and surprisingly appropriate for winter as well as summer!

Swirls of red jelly and sugary white ooze. Out of the bottle, this is warm, buttery brown-sugar caramel with a giant smear of red jam, and it stays that way on me the whole way through. Makes reviewing this one really easy. I didn't get any plastic or inner tube scent from this, it didn't go wrong on me the way Bloody Mary did, so I love it! It's delicious, like a hot, jelly-filled, iced donut. Mmm...

This is amazing. It's definitely cake with cream cheese frosting, but I can definitely smell Dorian in there! It's smooth and warm and spicy and I'm having trouble pulling out individual notes, but I can say for certain that I absolutely LOVE IT. I must hunt down a bottle of this. Now. :love!:

This started off so beautifully! Lemon, spices, smoke, and greenery. But now that it's started to dry, it has turned into HEMP. LOTS OF HEMP. HELLO, HEMP! I can still catch hints of evergreen and smoke, but the hemp is a bully, and it's giving me a headache. Maybe as a room scent or in a scent locket, this one.

Oh my goodness--this smells like a kitchen right as dinner is ready! Spicy honey over warm bread, spicy alcohol, and honest-to-goodness pot roast! Weird, but I like it! Definitely interesting and not an every day thing, but it's fun!

Ooh, another beautiful snake! In the bottle, this is all apple! But once I put it on it warmed and opened and I could smell the spices and the flowers a bit. It flirted with powder on me during the drydown, but once it dried, it kept the sweet, tangy apple and spices. Love.

Snake Oil with four mints, bergamot, and green tea. I'm so glad I put this one on before I read the notes, or I may never have given myself a chance to love it! And I definitely love this! I'm not usually a big mint lover (in fact, I have been avoiding it for years), but this is the perfect blend of honest mint with Earl Grey and Green teas blended. Not-fake/overpowering at all. The mint is making this sweet and fresh and light without being strong in the least. Love, love love. When it dries, the mint mellows a bit and the teas really come to life. I am SO glad I have a whole bottle of this!

In bottle: Why hello there, red musk! And is that...chocolate? It's definitely got a sweet creaminess about it. Sadly, I'm covered in Blue Moon 2007 right now so I can't really get a good read of it on my skin other than to say that its fantastic. I'll put this one on tomorrow and see what happens, but I wanted to get my first impression "written down" at least since there's so little info on this one. But so far, this is amazing. I may die if I can't get a bottle of this somehow.

Oh, this is beautiful, and I never would have tried it on my own--thanks arcadelane! In the bottle, I get lily and buttercup, with a tiny hint of sandalwood. On my wrists this opens up into the smell of a bouquet of orchid, wildflowers and daffodils (don't know where I'm getting the daffodil--maybe the buttercup?) if you held it upside down and sniffed the wet stems. That's probably the cucumber and the aloes, I'm thinking. Also the woods/sandalwood are HERE! It's not a bad thing, but I think it's stopping me smelling the other notes for now. As it dries down, the woods are fading and the orchid is stronger. It's coming across as a nice herbal with some floral notes hanging around. A beautiful blend for people who don't usually do florals but want to try it out!

Oh no...now I want ALL OF THEM. tell it. i've ordered about half of those bottles already but the labels are so amazing, it might push me to buy a few i'm "undecided" on... The great thing about it is that my wife totally likes the labels for the ones I like but she doesn't, so this *may* mean that I can get bottles just for meeeee (specifically The Smilin' Servitors' Hyperdimensional Holiday Hits and Old Man Ackerman's Instructional Toys)!

In bottle: Sharp sandalwood and a slap of leather. Wet on skin: Leather jacket and a whiff of sandalwood and amber. Amber always scares me: please don't turn into powder on me! You smell so sexy! The musk is in the background, smelling warm and vanilla-y. Drydown: The amber note is coming to the front, and miraculously enough it's (so far, anyway) not turned to powder. The leather and musk are definitely there, but the sandalwood seems to have blended really well into the amber and they're pretty well indistinguishable from each other. This scent reminds me of a still-warm leather jacket you've just taken for someone.

I wanted so badly to like this scent, but sadly if you are someone who has trouble with florals going to soap on you (I definitely do), this isn't going to be any different. Woodsy, clean, and green with some florals in the bottle, as soon as I put this on my skin it was pretty clear to me that one of those flowers hates me, and it started smelling of chemical cleaner. I tried to wait and see if it would mellow out, but it gave me a horrible headache, and I had to scrub it off. This one really makes me wish I could afford a scent locket!

"...fires in the distance, with a touch of boozy swoon, playful sugar and thuggish musk"? YESPLZ. In bottle: Boozy sugary musk. I don't really get any smoke here, just a complicated musky sweetness and the sharpness of alcohol. Wet on skin: Ahh, here's the smoke, it's a little bit spicy now. The super-sweet booze is there but tamed by the other notes. The musk is like a shape in the shadows rather than being right in your face, metaphorically speaking. Drydown: The musk makes its appearance, and it warms a little as all the notes settle into each other. It's creamy but doesn't smell of cream, if that makes any sense. An instant top ten.

Wet, I get musk, patchouli, and a warm background of scent that's very well-blended, then as it dries, this lovely vanilla leather smell comes out and starts to mingle with the musk and patchouli, and it smells fantastic! The wood, lemon, and cologne are present in the background, rounding this scent off. Love, love, LOVE this one. Definitely one of my top three.
