    SW Spring 2011 Help!

March 25 Are you interested in trying Super Villainess (from Villainess - the birthday scent that was just released tonight!) and if so, which item do you like the most? (Soap, Whipped, Smooch, Extrait, Smack...) I don't like Villainess soaps or perfumes. I have one of their smooches which is nice, and I've never tried smack. If I were to order you a Smack, which four notes would you like? Vanilla, incense, marshmallow and berry. Would you enjoy receiving a knitted gift from your witch? If so what would you be interested in (scarf, hat, wrist / handwarmers, socks, etc.) and in what colors? Sure! I like bright colors. March 23 Easter Candy - do you like it? If so, what types? mmmm, Cadbury creme eggs are my favorites. What scent(s) are you petrified of getting DC'd? I've been slowly buying all of my GC loves. I think I'd be sad if any of them got discontinued, but I'd be okay because I have bottles. March 22 Violette Market Update is up. Do you covet anything from it? Nope. What is your favorite type of wine? Would you be interested in trying something new? In that case, is there anything you really DONT like? Ooooo how about dessert wines? I love both red and white wine - favorite red is Cabernet, favorite white is either Orvieto or Sancerre. I like tart white that aren't too tannic and full bodied reds that are also not too tannic. March 21 What three things are you craving right now? Coffee! paper goods, anyone need? including resume paper, and formal stationery as well as casual cards. I always need post-its and little cards to include in my sales packages. What is a scent that you've been trying to find even a sample of for a very long time to no avail? (What bottle would you die to get your hands on - even a partial?) Always Fee. I have an imp and a half now, but I want a bottle (for less than $200!) Is there anything in your life that you'd like advice or a "selfhelp" book for?: (ie finances, eating healthier, meal planning) Hmm, maybe meal planning. March 19 If your Witch lived near you, would you be happy or creeped out to get a "coupon" for a service like cleaning help or babysitting or dogwalking or coffee out with your Witch or something like that? Would you be creeped out if a local minion personally delivered a package to your house from a far-away Witch? I think I know (and am friends with!) a few of the local, active BPAListas. I would not be creeped out. Let's say I have a pair of something you collect, would you like one of them and we have matching things? Sure! March 18 Do you like poetry? meeeeeeeeeeh. Some of it is great, but I am picky. What types of scents do you like to scent your home? Which do you totally avoid? In the spring, I like fresh clean scents - citrus, lavender, "ocean" ... in the fall/winter, I like baked goods - apple cider, cookies, pie. How do you feel about nail polish? What colors do you like? Sparkles? I like it on my toeses in the summertime. Any color is fine. Household/kitchen goods/gadgets? the boyfriend is more the cook, but I love a good novelty item. Ok geek check - what sort of geeky things do you do? Do you read comics/graphic novels? Are you obsessed with something (a TV show maybe?) Do you work in a geeky field? Do you play rpgs like Dungeons and Dragons? Would you like gifts related to any of these? I answered the comics question already. You know what my job is from my questionnaire. I'm definitely very, very uncool and I'm just fine with that. Do you have a favorite fabric? If someone were to make you a fabric item, would you prefer it be out of any fabric? e.g. velvet, satin, silk, cotton, bamboo??? Would this change if it were an article of clothing vs. a bag/pillow/blanket/somethingelse I'm generally open, but remember that the kittehs will leave their fur on everything. Black velvet is probably not a good idea in my household. Anything with the Worm Moon update that you're already lusting after? Witch, I purchased already. The proceeds going to Japan aid convinced me to just buy unsniffed. I can comfort my wallet by telling it that I bought BPAL for a good cause. Comics: What an opportune question! I just finished watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and now I've started reading the comics. I have all of the Angel comics and I am about halfway through them all, but I only have the first Buffy volume. They aren't as hard to read as I thought thought they would be! I am more of a books-without-pictures kind of girl at heart though. March 17 Would you want an invite to a site that is invite-only ex. Diaspora, Demonoid, etc. If so, what? I don't know those sites? But I decided a long time ago that I'm borderline cool at best. Pillows? What size/designs/colors would most interest you? Hmm, I don't think that' necessary, but thanks. purses? bags? What style/colors? I love me some bags! I particularly like little clutches and things I can take out with me at night. I'm open as to colors - bags and shoes, I loves them all. Decorative scarves for hair and/or creative accessorizing? What colors? Still a black hairband kind of girl. Would you like anything from Starring Fragrances. They make awesome hair stuff, natural deoderant, and home fragrance (and a ton of other stuff, those are just my favs)? I've only tried their perfume once (it was a freebie from somewhere) and I wasn't into it. I passed it along. I'm not against trying other things, but sometimes I get overwhelmed with all of the product out there. March 16 For those who like lipgloss, lipstick, tinted balms, etc, what colors do you wear (and warm? cool?) and do you prefer something sheer or more opaque? How do you feel about shimmer? I love shimmer and I prefer sheer. I tend to wear warmer colors. I really like lipgloss, actually. My favorite brands are the sephora brand (the one that is almost clear, but shimmery), philosophy and Cargo. Are there any fancy/gourmet/special herbs or spices that you'd love to receive? ie: good quality vanilla or other extracts, vanilla beans, saffron, lavender, etc. Nah. Not much of a cook - that's more of the boyfriend's thing. What's your favorite animal? Or is there one that's particularly significant to you? Penguins are my long time favorite, but I've always harbored a secret love of giraffes as well. I have a book called Tall Blondes that is all about giraffes that I bought because I am, well, both tall and blonde. DVDs, Blu-Ray, both, neither? DVDs. No Blu Ray player. Sock Dreams? What kind? (anklets, footies, etc.?) Sock dreams FTW! I like anklets best. Since this is a price capped round, would you rather get one "big" thing or lots of "little" things or don't care? It is up to my witch. I trust your judgment. Do you like pirate-related things? Yaaaaaaaar. Soaps? Be specific: if there are BPAL soaps you want to try or are dying for more of, tell all here! Also, any other companies people like or love? Villainess, maybe? Or Lush? What flavors??? I will pass; I have a TON of soaps and it's hard for me to find ones that don't dry out my skin. Sad. What periods of art do you love most? Like, if someone was going to get you a tapestry or a box or some other item, what period would you want it to most resonate with? the pinks and golds of Rococo? the clean geometry of Art Deco? The romanticism of Art Nouveux? The strange lines of Cubism? Art Deco. Would you like caffeinated lollipops?: ... yes? Copied CD's or DVD's? Sure! Yaaaaaar. I'm going to Disneyland in a couple of weeks, is there anything I can get you? Not that I can think of, but if you see something that seems suitable, I'm all about it. If you were able to get a vintage or prototype bottle from the upcoming West Coast Will Call, which one would you want? Hmm, I've already got someone picking up a bottle of Dreadful Lies v5 for me. But I'd love to try anything ... maybe First of Three Spirits v5? I was waffling on whether to ask for a pick up of that or Dreadful Lies v5. March 15 Booze? Yay or Nay? what kinds? Yay! Anything that is not anise flavored. Steampunk inspired items? Yay or nay? YEEEEEEEEES! Do you like amurigami dolls? No thanks. Pirates vs Ninjas vs Zombies - who wins? Which do you love most? Ninjas. But the real question is cavemen vs. astronauts. Do you like wearing things in your hair? If so, what kind (snap clips, scrunchie, headband, etc), how big & crazy (lowkey, bigger the better), and colors. I'm a plain black band kind of girl. Piercings? - ears?? - elsewhere? 5 in each ear and that is it. Chocolate. With stuff in it? Are you more a plain chocolate lover, a chocolate and normal items lover (normal items being nuts, fruit, caramel) or do you like weird stuff in your chocolate? (weird stuff being curry, chilis, balsamic vinegar, floraly things) Just no fruit. March 14 Do you enjoy gardening? If so, what kind of stuff do you grow? Vegetables, flowers? I have a thumb of black death and destruction. Social Networking sites: Rebeccasharp or sophiawestern on LJ. I'm also lissaphoto on flickr (flickr.com/photo/lissaphoto). Lots of linkage in my siggy. favourite artists or specific paintings? There is a flickr link in an old blog post somewhere....http://www.flickr.com/invite/history/guests?open=72157624762736579#gp_72157624762736579 Astrological charts and interpretation/ reports? Sure! So how does everyone feel about receiving ebooks? Eh. I like paper. Do you need another bpal box? My boyfriend made me a big one for Christmas, so I think I'm set. Do you have any blogs you regularly read? Hyperbole and a half! CLEAN ALL THE THINGS! the world has given you the day off. You hear that, no chores, responsibilities, or budget you have to follow. What would you do in those 24 hours?Shopping, followed by laying on the beach somewhere reading. Ahhhhh, bliss. March 13 how about mix CDs? Love them! Seriously, you can put whatever you want on it. I love finding new music and my tastes are really eclectic. Hey, how do folks feel about little e-goodies, like links to stuff your witchee likes? (articles online, pix, fic, etc) Sure, that would be awesome. Tim Tams? Yes or no? Chocolate Creme, Caramel, or Dark Chocolate? NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM. Is there any "classic" literature (Hemingway, Dickens, Elliot, Bronte, Hugo, Wilde, etc.) that you would like to add to your collection? You can check my amazon.com wishlist, but I would love more books by Elizabeth Gaskell (North and South is one of my favorites). That's the only thing that comes immediately to mind. candles and/or aroma melts: yay or nay? I don't have a tart burner, but candles are fine. Get your music player, what are the first 13 songs on Random? 1. Poker Face (cover) - the cast of Glee 2. Out of the World - Bush 3. Save the Lies - Gabriela Cilmi 4. Little Plastic Castle -Ani Difranco 5. My Dad's Face - 5 Chinese Brother 6. Somebody that I used To Know - Elliott Smith 7. Gone with the Sin - H.I.M. 8. Disease (acoustic) - Matchbox twenty 9. Eyes on Fire - Blue Foundation 10. Fire Water Burn - Bloodhound Gang 11. Your Song - from the Moulin Rouge Soundtrack 12. River Sea Ocean (live bootleg) - Badly Drawn Boy 13. Way Beyond - Morcheeba March 11 Would you rather have HUGE list of things your witchee wants to try or just a highlight list? Anything! March 10 Baked Goods? Yea Nay? NOM NOM NOM!! If not Baked goods and you are changing eating habits..a book of recipes perhaps that will help the new eating lifestyle? I'm not a very good cook, so this is probably wasted on me. If you were to make an order RIGHT NOW (Not that any of you will make any bpal orders until SW is over, because you do NOT want to mess up any plans your witch might have!) What would you order (from lab, forum, DD, TradingPost, etc) Hmm, I think I want Nymphia from the lupercalia update. Still waiting for my decants from the newer round of stuff. What level of nudity are you fine with on items? Ex: none, tasteful, erotica Tasteful is good. I know the ?airre asked about gently used books and if you like garage sales, but would you like other kinds of gently used items that may have come from a garage sale? Sure, that's no problem. Do you like cooking seasonings, like the kind you can get in ounce sizes? If so, things you'd love to try out? Again, I'm not so much into the cooking. I'm an awesome orderer though. Do you like any particular kinds of green or black teas or coffees that could also be gotten in bulk? I love all coffee. Bring it on! Favorite snack foods (and can they be from bulk section as well?) Having difficulty thinking of something for this, but I'll try to get back to it later.

    Metal Rabbit

I would agree that Metal Rabbit and Metal Tiger are very similar, although I think I prefer Metal Rabbit. Metal Rabbit has a distinctly present tangerine note that Metal Tiger is missing. Metal Tiger smells mostly like bergamot on me. Metal Rabbit is very different from Earth Rat (mostly melon) and Fire Pig (all lychee). I haven't tried Earth Ox, so I can't compare. I love this, so I'm happy.

    Red Lace

On me, this is mostly vanilla and cotton, achingly similar to antique lace ... but then there is something seriously unpleasant in there. I agree with the poster who said it's kind of a grape-y, wine like scent. I don't like the smell so much when it is right up next to my nose. I think I'll let this settle and age and then re-evaluate.

    Wolf Moon 2011

This is the piney version of the BPAL snow note. It's not terrible, but it edges too far into pinesol territory for this to be a keeper. I have other snow blends with the same note that I prefer.
  5. ellebelle

    Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse

For me, this is a peppery-berry blend, quite light and wafty. It's fresh and pretty, but does not stick around very long.
  6. ellebelle

    WILF

This smells like how Snake Oil SHOULD smell like (or, at least how I imagined it would smell!) While Snake Oil is a bit meh on me, WILF is this rich, marvelous vanilla/champaca/musk. I do not get any mint or chocolate (usually a death note for me). It's like the love child of Panther Moon and Snake Charmer on me. Marvelous!

    Ops

This smells like gingerrbread to me as well - not in a foody way, but in a raw spices way. I don't just fruit or citrus.

    Mitzvah Goreret Mitzvah

I would agree with the comparisons to Lambs-Wool, although on me this is less a potpourri scent than Lambs-Wool. To me this is fruit rounded out by the sweetness of honey. Lately honey has been going all sour and funky on my skin, but thankfully this must have whatever the "good" honey is because that does not happen. Instead, I get a rich, golden, apple-y, beeswaxy scent. I'm so glad my BF went out of his way to find someone to pick this up and surprise me with!

    Cold Moon

The Full Moon that shines over the frost-rimed heart of winter. Traditional lunar oils combined with glittering snow flowers, soft breezes and frozen ferns. This is for the 2010 version. On me this is a strong wood and mint perfume. Usually mint plays pretty nice with me, but if anything as I wore this longer, the mint smelled stronger and stronger until I had a feeling of wearing some kind of flu medication. The boyfriend asked me to wash it off. Sad.

    Beaver Moon 2010

    Dooooooolll plastic. Sigh.

    Cat Allingham

I really love this! On me, it is incense-y/dark musky blend. There is a bit of sharpness if I put it close to my nose, but i love the scent of it as it wafts around me. I found the dry down to be exceptionally like - mostly wood with a touch of spice. Low throw on the dry down, I think I'd have to bring a touch with me to spread on myself throughout the day.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

I am looking for rose recommendations! I could never really wear rose before as it gave me a headache, but since I've gone off of my birth control medication, either it smells differently on my skin or I am not perceiving the scent the same way. In either case, I skin tested some rose-y imps and .... I liked them! I still think I prefer blends that do not have rose as the dominant note, but it's okay if it is a present note. Recent blends I've liked with rose include: Othello The Grindhouse Joyful Moon Champagne and Roses I don't have much other rose stuff laying around because I didn't like it. Can anyone suggest other rose blends where the rose is an important note, but it isn't the dominant note? And I think I might like it better when it is not combined with other florals....
  13. THE LINCOLN TUNNEL VORTEX Not merely a pathway between Manhattan and Weehawken, the Lincoln Tunnel is also a site of mystery. Cars have been reported missing in mid-voyage as they passed through the tunnel, and individuals have claimed that they have exited the tunnel disoriented, with strange gaps in their memories. Are these accounts a side-effect of sanity-shattering traffic or is this a genuine highway to an alternate dimension? Swirls of discordant, high-pitched notes, pavement, and a thin coating of sweet, green-glowing radiator fluid. I thought from the description that this was going to be very high pitched and ozone-y. What I actually get is an odd, almost waxy/powdery smell. The powder is almost certainly some kind of musk. To me, this is basically a one-note scent that stays true as it dries down. Among all of the things I've tested, it reminds me most of Tetramorph v2 (only without the honey). An odd scent, but a pretty one nonetheless.
  14. ellebelle

    Hatshepsut v11

This scent is evennmore beautiful than I thought it would be. I concur with previous reviewers - definitely amber (it smells like Egyptian amber, which is my favorite kind), spices (perhaps cardamom and nutmeg? definitely no cinnamon) and incense on me. There is a sharpness right as it goes on which I identify as myrrh but it goes away almost immediately. I don't smell any "fruit" notes in this, unless there is a touch of wine (which I identify differently than a fruity scent). This is a beautiful scent that is a summer/fall wear for me. I love it, and I'm happy I found a bottle!
  15. ellebelle

    Bedbug

To me, this smells like orange spiced sponge cake. MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... so glad I go SO MANY BEDBUGS.
  16. ellebelle

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

How many people don't realize they have the "wrong" one? I only noticed because I happened upon your ISO post. I've been wearing TIL frequently since the con and when I read this thread it dawned on me to check my oil since I don't typically like red musk scents.
  17. ellebelle

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

Huh, this is so interesting! I got the "other" Infernal Lover as well - my oil is a light yellow color. I *LOVE* this scent and was going to get a backup, but now I'm thinking otherwise. Hrm. FWIW, I bought mine at NYCC.
  18. ellebelle

The White Lady of Durand Eastman Park

For me, the wet stage in this is quite peppery smelling. As it dries, it goes through a really pretty stage where it smells a bit like sweet grasses - I think it's the combination of tobacco flower (one of my favorite notes) and bergamot. As it continues to dry down, it turns into an odd, murky scent - it evokes the feeling of still waters with something not quite right below. And finally, in the end ..... powder and plastic. This is an interesting scent, a morpher, but ultimately not for me.

    Victorian Garden

Wet: LAVENDER. Nothing else, just a blast of lavender. Dry down: Thankfully the prominent lavender smell fades quickly into the background. The herbs begin to come out and it starts to smell like soap. Far dry down: The honey scent finally makes an appearance in the far dry down. Most BPAL blends with honey in them dry down to this beautiful honey musky smell and this is no exception. Except the herbal scent also stays prominent and the result is an odd honey-soap smell. It is weird, a little unpleasant, and for me evocative of my grandmothers underwear draw. Pass.

    Switch Witch Fall 2010 Questions

Sizes: tops, babydoll XL or XXL - I am tall, so I'm willing to take a baggier fit for the length. Mens M or L. Bottoms, XL or XXL again, depending on fit. Baked Goods?: Mmmmmm, yummy. Other household members: My kitties love pressies, but my boyfriend has his own forums. bottles or testers: I am specific in my wishlist for what I am looking for and it honestly doesn't matter to me. One bottle, a bunch of testers, it's all the same! Mix CDs: Always a yes! Groupons: Sadly, this is probably a no for me. I think Groupons are awesome, but I have no car and I am unwilling to travel long distances via public transportation to take advantage of a groupon. If you know it is something that has a store in Manhattan, then that would be okay. Girly factor: I would say that I am not a particularly "girly" girl in looks or in personality. I try and put myself together well, I do wear make up and jewelry and (of course) perfume. That being said, I equate girlishness with people I would call "cute". I've never been called cute in my entire life - beautiful, pretty, sexy, attractive, but never, ever, ever "cute". What is your favourite snack food, something you could grab any time?: does coffee count? Ebooks: I do have an iPad, but I don't use it much for reading. I would prefer real books to ebooks, I think. Plushies: No thank you - although, if anyone needs stuffing for plushies, I have a bag that I got accidently when we were upholstering our headboard. Jane Austen: So much love! The only one I haven't read is Northanger Abbey, but I downloaded it for my iPad. Do you read Tarot cards: No, but I find them intriguing. Knitted things: Sure, I'd love some! I have three scarves from my mom and a hat from my cousin. I love handmade things. Widescreen or formatted: Widescreen. Scented tarts: Are fine, but I don't have a burner. Lip Balms: No thanks. I have lip balm overload! Body Mods: I have tattoos (2) and five ear piercings in each ear. Booze: Yummy! - see my SW ?aire and previous answers for this question, but I like many things and love to sample stuff. Favorite art/artist: I love a lot of different art and artists. Lately, I'm mostly into polish surrealists like Rafal Olbinski. I also really like illustration work. I'm a photographer, but I don't put a lot of my own work up. My style is a mixture of contemporary and mid-century and arts and crafts. I am an eclectic person. I put all of the photos of my apartment into one set on flickr and made a guest pass so anyone who is curious can peruse it! http://flickr.com/gp/lissaphoto/3Hi3Mb cosplay: I do no kind of costumed play at all, so this wouldn't be for me. handmade ceramics: would love, LOVE any of that! Mortars and pestles too. Any of it would be awesome. Mail phobias: as long as you don't mail me a tray of bees, we're good. etsy substitutions: I'm not picky - if something I like is sold out, but there is something similar, chances are I'll love it. Or even if it's not similar but has a similar aesthetic from the same store, you are also probably safe. I'll love anything my witch gives me! Disney: Hmm, I am a Disney fan but I don't like Disney paraphernalia so much, if that makes sense. My favorite Disney movies are The Jungle Book, Mulan and Aladdin. I'm not much for the non-musical ones (booo! I like the songs!). Disney DVDs are all good though since I recently got rid of my entire colletion of VHS. Which bring me to .... DVD, BluRay, VHS: Only DVD. And I do not mind used a single bit as long as they play! What do you do when you need comfort etc? One of the things that I always do when I am sick, feeling yucky and especially if I am feeling depressed is re-read one of my favorite books and/or series. I know a lot of people are not re-readers, but I find nothing more comforting than slipping into a story I know and love. It's a little like visiting old friends that I haven't seen in a while and it always makes me feel better. Sometimes, if it's a book I've read a LOT, I will skip to all of my favorite parts; but then again, sometimes I make myself wait to get to my favorite parts. It just depends on my mood and how much delicious anticipation I want. My favorite re-reads are (and no judgement here ....): - The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley - Blue Moon Rising by Simon R Green - The Deathstalker series - but only the first three because I didn't like where the series went, also by Simon R. Green - The Mage Winds Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey - The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King - but only the first five books. See above reason. - Harry Potter. - Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier - The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood When I was younger, I read Christy about a hundred times and I re-read it for the first time in YEARS a couple of years ago and I have no idea how I read past a lot of the religious themes in it - they seemed very obvious to me now and I didn't remember it being that way at all when I was 16. I have a few other frequent re-reads that are still in my parents house that I need to get back and see if they still fall into that category - Night Over Water by Ken Follett, Redwall, Mossflower and Mattimeo by Brian Jacques. I'm mad that I gave away my copy of Neverwhere - that's another good re-read book and the person I gave it to never gave it back. Sigh, I love books. Sockses? I have never used sock dreams, but I am intrigued by the concept. I generally don't wear "wild" socks, but it could be fun to have a fun patterned pair for halloween in particular. Favorite Halloween Movie? One year a friend of mine and I watched the Scream trilogy. That was fun. Makeup I wear it, but I am picky. I'm always game to try new eye shadows and things. Comic Books: Not really into them, although I wouldn't mind trying out the Neil Gaiman ones. I flipped through some of those at the bookstore once and they looked pretty and interesting. Warm drinks! Personally, I love them. My favorites are coffee, hot apple cider, cocoa and mulled wine. I do drink tea, but I tend to be pickier - I like flavorful teas like chai and darjeeling and lapsang, as well as berry and fruit flavored green teas. My favorite two specific teas are the passonfruit and vanilla rooibos tazo teas. I also like the Aveda loose leaf tea, but only brewed nice and strong. I've gotten some of the stuff teas from people in swaps and a lot of theirs is delicious too - although it's harder for me to find. custom icons: I don't really use them, so no thanks. animal totem: It's odd because I have a lot of animal themed art in my office, but I don't really have a totem so to speak. One of my favorite things I ever got in Africa is a carved wooden oryx. The people there always try and push elephants an giraffes on you and I eschewed all animal parapernalia until my third or fourth trip when I saw this graceful looking oryx all dusty in the back. She spoke to me. If I could go back in time ...: I think it might be to the 20s. I think it would have been fun to be alive then - but not in the 30s. Further back, I'd have to go with the medieval period even though we have romanced it into being far greater than it likely was. If I could be a fictional character from a fantasy novel...: I think I would like to be myself in the Harry Potter world. I would be an awesome witch. Do you need a box for your bpal bottles? Your imps? Your something else to put in a box stuff? Actually, I think I'm good on that front! It's a miracle! Favorite Halloween Candy/Treat? I more like fall treats. I love honey crisp apples and mulled cider. What are your favorite baked goods/homemade treats? Lemon things. lemon bars, lemon pies, yum! I also like white chocolate macademia nut cookies Would you be interested in an astrology birth chart? Sure, that would be really fun. It's 7/29/1980. I was born in Santa Clara, CA at around 5:30am. Do you like the Muppets? Which is your favorite? Yes! Waldorf and Statler are my favs, followed by Rizzo the rat. Animal and Bunsen and Beaker are my least favorite. If you could have any creature (real or imaginary) as a pet, what would it be? I would like to have a chinchilla. But the BF has said no right now, and he's probably right. We're already verging on being one of those people, not that I give a shit. Name a couple of sites you frequent other than this one? livejournal, manhattanreefs.com (same usernamer), flickr What movie scared the bejeezus out of you as a child?: Arachnophobia Currently learning: I have my Ph.D., so I'm pretty much done as far as schooling. I would like to take more dive classes and become a more experienced SCUBA diver. Currently, I'm certified for dry suit and nitrox. I'd like to do a class in underwater photography and kelp diving and night diving! But sooooo expensive. Will you be out of town during the round? Hmm, I do not think so. If so, the people who come to watch my pets get the mail. Short stories/short movies? I do like movie shorts, but I do not like short stories. There isn't enough time! For me, the longer the book, the better. I want to follow my characters for as long as possible. steampunk?: I do kind of like steam punk jewelry - particularly the watch and gears aspect of it. I have a ring that is basically the insides of a watch turned outside and I love it. Would you like a bag of dried Honeycrisp apples?BIG BIG YES. I love honeycrisp, they are my favorite kind! If you were to receive a knitted item (such as a scarf, hat, etc), what colors would you like? And do you have any sensitivies/allergies to any materials? I like jewel tones best of all. Only colors that I would say absolutely no to is yellow - not my thing. Any material is fine for me. If I were to send you a gift certificate for something would you rather get a physical gift certificate in the mail? Or would you prefer an electronic one that you can use right away? : Either is fine for me. Favorite word? Strumpet. Ever since I read my first Shakespearean play, I have loved all of the different words for whore. Strumpet, trollop, wicked jade ... they are all so much fun! Favorite Yankee Candles? Or other brands scents? (I make my own candles too, but sometimes have money to spend on others): I like candles that smell like baking. zuni animal fetish: Eeeeeeeeeeh, probably not for me just because it's a "sitter" without that much meaning. Usually when I purchase something to sit around in my office, it is meaningful to me for some reason. While this would CERTAINLY be meaningful because my dear witch purchased it, none of them are really speaking to me. glow in the dark radishes: are AWESOME. But I would never wear them. What places to do you visit that you'd like a gift card to? Starbucks, Target, Wal-Mart, B&N, a favorite restaurant or clothing shop? : Please, no Walmart or Target for me as there aren't any conveniently located to me. Starbucks is always a good bet, Barnes and Nobles, Gap incm amazon, itunes, .... Cake or Frosting? : both! Would you prefer clothing or costume pieces? If so, what would items would you like? See sizing above and my answer about cosplay. Not into it and I'm not sure if I'm going to do anything on Halloween. If you play console video games, what game systems do you have and what games would you love to have? I have a Wii! I like all of the exercise "games" and MarioKart and things like that. I do not like first person shooter games or games that require excessive reading of some story line. I am a simple gaming soul and I miss tetris. Vampire Stuff: I am not anti-vamp, but I am not a rabid fan. I have seen the first two Twilight movies and I thought they were kind of cheesy. I read the first Twilight book and didn't feel the need to move on. I like Anne Rice's vampire books though and I hear True Blood is awesome, although I haven't seen it. How do you all feel about flowers and plants? Flower and plant seeds? Drawings of flowers or plants? Pressed flowers? Pressed flowers and flower art is awesome. For seeds, they would need to be plants that can be grown in the shade. I have a backyard but it gets very little sun. If you could have 3 BPAL bottles fall (gently) out of the sky right this second that you've been looking for or pining for - which 3 would they be? Hmmm ... Fee (Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. ha.), Left His Nurse While In A Crowd and a backup bottle of Dreadful Lies. Are there any international treats that you love and have a hard time finding? Coffee crisps! And Tim Tams! And Daim bars (although now we can get those at Ikea!). There are actually more international DRINKS that I miss - I love Peartizer and Appletizer (I've seen Appletizer in the UK, but I've only seen Peartizer in South Africa) and my very, VERY favorite is Stoney Tangawizi which is a ginger soft drink made by the Coca Cola Co. I've only ever seen it in East Africa. If you are a crafter, would you like to receive supplies from your witch (beads, fabric, yarn/roving etc?) I don't do a lot of crafting, honestly. However, I do a little bit of bookmaking so if my witch found some pretty ribbons in particular for doing various ribbon bindings, that would be welcome! Find your iPod (or other MP3 device), put it on shuffle/random. What are the first five songs to come up? 1. My Winter - Sister Hazel 2. Jukebox - Ani DiFranco 3. Dora Goes to Town - Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire 4. Wet, Wet, Wet - Badly Drawn Boy 5. She Works Hard for the Money (cover) - Kris Allen -- 6. King of the Road - Roger Miller 7. Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen 8. Strangest Tribe - Pearl Jam 9. Marionette - 5 Chinese Brothers 10. Coastal - Benton Falls Soundtracks you'd like? Glee! But actually, I've already bought almost all of the songs I want from itunes. If you could see one concert right now, who would it be? Not sure - I'm not as into music as I once was. Any countries you're interested in? Thailand, Japan, Morocco Would you enjoy homemade bath products (bath salts, fizzies, etc.) and/or linen sprays? Esp. if scented with some of your favorite BPAL scents? Sure - but I don't really take baths. Scrubs, linen sprays, etc would be wonderful. If you witch made you something and it didn't come out just right, would you still want it? Yes! Are you a foodie? Perfume wise? Not really. Going out to eat at fancy restaurants-wise? YESYESYES! Any sports fans in the house? What's your favorite sport/team/player? Basketball is the one with a puck, right? For holidays, do you decorate? Would you like decorative stuff, weenie or otherwise? If so, do you lean towards the elegant, the crafty/folksy, or the more, erm, campy? I decorate for Christmas only, and I tend towards the more elegant side of things. Are partial bottles okay: Absolutely. Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? Yes, again - absolutely! How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? I love cards - I tend to include little cards in all of my swap packages, so I go through them quickly. I like just about anything. Would you like homemade preserves? NOM NOM NOM. My mom found this pimento jelly at an Iowa farmer's market when she was visiting my father's family in July and it was SO DELICIOUS. I did not know I loved pimento so much, but I do. I also really like fig jam with cream cheese on crackers. Oh, nommity nom nom. Do you like journals/notebooks/sketchbooks? I like them, but I never use them. Plus I make my own books, so I have tons of these laying around. Who would be on your top 5 (IE famous people you’d date/have relations with 1. Christopher Plummer circa 1965 (The Sound of Music Years) 2. Kyle Chandler 3. Orlando Bloom, but only if he will wear a pirate outfit 4. Johnny Depp ... I can't think of 5, so 4 will have to do. I've never really been one to fantasize or drool over celebrities. Would you like something you have to make yourself? For example, a kit to knit your own soft toy, or a card making kit, or baking kit, etc. And is there anything in particular you'd like to learn? Kits tend to sit around undone around my house. It's just the way things are. What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? Sure! I particularly love vintage glass bottles and such. If you look on my flickr account, you can see the little ones I have already. The oldest one I have is pre-civil war. One of them says opium on the side! I recently got an old fishing float that is all pretty and patina-ed from being in the ocean. Yay glass. Who is your favorite soap etailer? I really prefer scrubs and bodywash to soaps generally. I love paintbox soapworks sorbettos best of all. What interests you from the latest lab/BPTP update?: I admit, I did a decant circle for pretty much everything I wanted from the Lab and the post, plus I put in an inquisition order for myself. Sorry witch dear! I haven't ordered the forum only scents as I didn't think there would be time for a decant and order - I have been waiting for reviews as they both interest me. I also updated my wishlist with some other things I've been looking for. Marzipan, maple candy, bacon chocolate,oh my!: Yes, yes, and ... I'll try anything once! If you are a tea-drinker do you need a tea-cozie for your pot?: When I drink tea, I make it a cup at a time, so no. I don't even know what a tea-cozie is. Now, can I have my coffee back? Go to your spice cabinet, what are the three most used spices? Cinnamon, paprika, rosemary Microsoft or Apple? Both! I have a PC and an iPad. Where was your last vacation? What did you like most? Spokane, WA - and visiting with my family and relaxing was the best part. Would you appreciate receiving handwritten letters and/or postcards (anonymous or not)? How about sending them? Yes to both. Chocolate or other types of candy? Chocolates - any kind really. I also love caramel. For tea drinkers, do you prefer loose leaf or tea bags? Bags. That's how you can tell I'm not a real tea drinker! If you would enjoy something of a knitted persuasion, do you have a preference on type of thing? Since making a scarf for someone who has 10 might be a smidge excessive? Also, how do people feel about shawls? I have no preference and I love scarves and shawls. Wait - .... is 10 excessive? When my mother retired, she took up knitting and she quickly got bored with just doing straight stitch stuff. Now she's super active on ravelry and makes ridiculously complicated but beautiful lace knit things. (I think she's VickiRPT on there if any of you "know" her!) So she gives me knitted things all the time and you know what? I STILL WANT MORE. Heh. Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike? Xena, Warrior Princess. I never watched the show, but Lucy Lawless is pretty badass. Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, ect? Hmm, not that I can think of right now. Music, DO you prefer Live or Studio? Edited or explicit? I like it all. If you are an animal lover, is there a specific type/breed that you love most? Silkie bantam chickens. They are so so stupid and look like muppets. How could something to improbable exist! Also flowers and plants- If you like flowers/plants, do you have a favorite(s)? I like lots of different flowers actually, but I don't have a favorite. Anything that is colorful and smells good. I am oddly attracted to yellow flowers in particular. Do you have a favorite quotation? Song lyric? Book passage? The little glimpse of domestic harmony which had been offered her, gave her no regret, no longing. It was not a condition of life which fitted her, and she could see in it but an appalling and hopeless ennui. She was moved by a kind of commiseration for Madame Ratignolle, -- a pity for that colorless existence which never uplifted its possessor beyond the region of blind contentment, in which no moment of anguish ever visited her soul, in which she would never have the taste of life's delirium. - Kate Chopin, The Awakening Let's say, hypothetically speaking, that you have some children/spawn (1 or more), and, hypothetically speaking, your witch would like to spoil them a little but knows nothing of kids these days. What do they like or dislike? Also is there anything a (sane) adult might think they would like that you don't think is appropriate for whatever reason? (I'm thinking of things like temp tattoos, make up, things that make noise, or anything else that might be bad for non-obvious reasons.) Heh, this does not apply to me. I am child free by choice. Is there anything you would like that can be delivered over the internet? Things like fanfic recs, cat macros, mp3s you are looking for, how-to or amusing videos, things like that I always love a good link/video! Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? Either is fine! Would you be opposed to receiving a digital version (via email) of a magazine you like but don't subscribe to...you know, in the interest of saving a tree? I really, really like real magazines, but I would read an e-magazine anyway. dollars store trinkets: If it's something like stationary, then yay! If it's a "sitter" then I would echo what some of the others have said and would rather you pass. Unless you think it's something too perfect for me! Then, by all means ... word magnets: I have two sets, and that is probably sufficient. crafting instead of buying: Craft away! I love crafted goods. do you read mangas or anime?: Nope, not at all. Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd’s that you’ve been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? See my amazon.com wishlist. There are lots of movies I am trying to replace on DVD since my VCR crapped out. Used is fine by me so long as it plays. Is there anything from the Possets' Hallowe'en update you're lusting after? Never tried possets. Would you like a custom/altered toy either from a seller or from your witch (like My Little Pony, or a Barbie or any particular toy that can be changed?) Hmmm, no thanks. Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? Um, are there people who don't like those things?! If it's wrong to like them, then I don't want to be right! Anne Taintor, anyone? Heeeee! See my LJ icon. I love Anne Taintor in all incarnations. If I were to knit a scarf, would you prefer a skinny one, or a wide one? A short one, that when wrapped once around your neck will just tuck under your jacket, or a long one, at least to your waist? Don't like scarves? Would a rectangular shawl or triangular shawl be more to your taste? I feel like I covered this, but I love scarves of all persuasions. I generally love accessories, shoes and outerwear. How do you feel about recipes? Okay, here is the deal - I can cook and I even like to cook. However, my boyfriend used to work in a professional kitchen and feels the need to "help" and "improve upon" whatever I decide to cook. This annoys me SO MUCH that I rarely cook when he is around. So while I actually do love recipes, they kind of make me a little bitter in an odd sort of way. If you sent them to me, I would have to try them when BF is out of town or he will make me so crazy that I will want to beat him with a blunt object. What kind of a cook/baker are you? See above. Are you happiest calling for delivery or microwaving a lean cuisine, Or will Food Network be asking you to host their new program? See above again. If I send you something home made would you like the reciepe for it? Sure! Then I can at least duplicate it if I want to! How about home made mixes or kits? Kind of like the cookie in a jar thing, where you would need to add the perishable ingredients? If you send one, it will definitely get made by either me or the BF. if you are a tea lover, what are your flavor preferences? Green? Black? Herbal (I know, technically those are NOT teas, but tisanes)? Flavored blacks/greens? I answered this earlier, but I prefer fruit teas, as well as lapsang souchong and darjeeling and chai. I just tried an apple chamomile blend that I got with a swap package and it was quite nummy and soothing to the stomach. Oh, anything with ginger or vanilla is probably a win too, regardless of base flavor. Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? Amazon list has all of the answers to this. OK, I know that lots of folks love socks. Do you have a preference of length? Materials? Patterns? I already got a sockdreams gift card. If you could have any costume, or if you aren't into costumes, necklace or other accessory, from any movie character, what would it be? I would love one of the dresses from The Other Boleyn Girl to dress up on Halloween. It would be SO expensive, but I have always wanted to try one. How do you feel about samples/decants of things other than BPAL? Soap slices, lotion/scrub/shower gel decants, single use make-up/beauty products, etc. Not into the soap slices, they never get used. Any of the rest is a-okay. What are you guys going to be aiming for in the Inquisition? Or do you just plan on ordering individual items? I already ordered my inquisition stuff. Are you lusting after anything Possets/Violette Market/Conjure Oils/etc? I find that I start to get overwhelmed when I start exploring all of those other sites. I can barely keep up with BPAL and now I find out there are a million other companies as well! I always enjoy getting frimps from other etailers, although with ONE exception I have not ever found something bottleworthy (exception = Arcana Breakfast in Hollywood). I almost bought a bottle of Frou Frou from Possets which I also quite like. The Violette Market LE scents sounds divine, but I don't even know if all of the same notes will work there. If there were a way to get a tester pack from another etailer, I would love that. I have notes of good and bad listed on my wishlist. I do know that I do not like Villianess perfumes. Whatever their base is slides right off of my skin. I've tried four and they last for maybe 30 minutes. Do you read/like fantasy? What kind of books or authors do you love? Which one would you like to read? Would you like gifts related to it? Yes, see my amazon wishlist and my comfort reads listed above. I don't think I need any gifts related to that? Soaps : do you like them? What brands? What scents? Anything you're dying to try? I prefer scrubs. Who likes hair toys, and if so what kind? I usually just use plain black bands. Does any art we may send need to be child safe, either in the actually safe sense or the non X rated sense? No way! In the knitted/crocheted things area, would you want wrist warmers, 1/2 gloves, a neck warmer(the kind that pretty much just goes around your neck and maybe fastens instead of being long and loose like a scarf), slippers, or hats? Sure. Well, maybe not a cowl? But maybe, I've never used one. How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? I do not mind them. What is your favourite habitat and climate to live in? How about to visit? (ie. forest, canyons, mountains, by the beach; temperate, tropical...) I miss California. What do you wish you could make/craft if you had the know-how and supplies? Specifically, which particular items? I can't think of anything right now, but I'll ponder it. Am I alone in this, or is there a Book Fair/Comic Con scent you're dying to get your paws on, too? Anyone need address/phone type books? I am going to ComiCon, so I'm good there. I'd love to try Sybil, but it's got rose in it and that is typically a deal breaker. Do you have a place where you list all the BPAL you have or have tried? This is my list of scents I've tried. 9/22/10 Do you have a deviantart print wishlist or favourites list? None that is recent. I used to have one a long long time ago, but I just tried to login to my account and it doesn't seem to exist anymore. Is there anything from Blooddrop that you want to try? GC? Halloween update? Not that I know of. TOO MANY COMPANIES! What kind of shoes do you need/want? What size shoes do you wear? Would you mind gently used shoes? I wear a size 11 shoes, so shoes are difficult to find for me. I think I would prefer to buy my own shoes. Sorry dear! Do you like paper dolls (new or vintage) or coloring in books? Hmm, no thanks. Do you like weird scary things as traditionally girly fashion items like heels and handbags? Sure, it's fun! I don't know how often I'd wear them, but I love the idea. What song is on heavy rotation for you right now? It's too shameful, but ... According to You by Orianthi. Are you coveting any of the NYCC atmospheric sprays? I will be buying two for me! 9/21/10 Do you like garlic? Do you REALLY like garlic? Would you want to try some really unusual garlic stuff, like garlic cheese or garlic fudge or garlic chocolate, etc., etc., etc.? I grew up not too far from Gilroy, so I have tried all of the garlic novelty food. It's fun, and I love garlic, but you don't need to go out of your way for it! Can I talk to you about the living dead? How do you feel about Zombies? I like Zombie movies. I'm not obsessed. 9/20/10 If you happened to be my Witchee, is there something you'd like from the Arcana Halloween update? YES YES YES! Almost everything. I love Arcana. How many bottles of BPAL do you have? 87. I counted. Is there any exercise program that you're interesting in learning? Meditation, Yoga, Pilates, Belly Dancing, Zumba ect? Or if you do any of these (or anything else sport related) are there any things you need/want? Candles, music, mats, water bottles ect? I don't think so .... I love Sigg waterbottles, I use them every day at work so those are always fun. Anyone else into Emily Autumn? I have a couple of songs. What's on your walls? Please show us up to three paintings/posters/whatever. If you love a painting so much that you would steal (to watch it with your greedy eyes) one, please share. Posted on the thread + you can take my house tour. do you like Girl Scout cookies? What kind? ALL KINDS YES PLEAZ. What's your take on homemade apple butter? Want some? My take is NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM. 9/19/10 I wondered if my witch or any witch would enjoy things like nice pens to draw with or anything similar? I always need red pens so that my comments will run like blood down the my students' papers. For those who are yarnies Not a yarnie! Address book I'm digital girl now. 9/25/10 If you could make a scent that represents where you live (or have lived), what would be the ingredients? This was a hard one for me, but I'm inspired by one of my favorite smells in the city. In the wintertime, the candied nut vendors come out. One of them camps out right outside of my subway station so when I come out of the subway and into the cold, my nose is immediately greeted by the delicious smell of roasting nuts. The scent of candied nuts in the sharp chill of the winter air, and a whiff of exhaust. Are you in need of Roller bottles or anything of the like? yes please! 9/24/10 Just curious, but if your witch was to make an amigurumi critter (or other plushie) just for you, what would it be? A penguin or a monkey. Would you want a local/tourist item from your witch? Like a t-shirt, mug or shot glass? A shot glass would be awesome! Okay, who wants NAlloween and some Vampire Apothecary goodness? Venomous Villains? No more scent sites! I am in overload! Last Unicorn? I never buy scents based on name, only on notes so I'll have to see what they look like. Who is your fav Disney Villian/villianess? How about hero/herione? (doesn't have to be specifically Disney though) Heroine would be Mulan. Villain/villainness would be Scar. I do love Jeremy Irons. 9/23/10 Do you collect stones/rocks? I'm talking like "semi" precious stones, ie moonstone, bloodstone, quartz ect. Are there any that you're looking for at the moment? Are you in need of a stone but don't know which kind? Nope - although I am in need of a jewelry maker! What's your favorite Halloween Music? I don't listen to any special music on Halloween.

    Fledgling Raptor Moon

This smells like a men's cologne on me. It is bad in wet stage, bad in drydown, bad in far dry down. Am sad. (Chemistry, I shake my fist at you!!)

Chaos Theory VI: Recursive Self-Similarity v7

#523: In the bottle, it is thick vanilla frosting. Applied, there is a burst of RUM, but that scuttles into the background leaving the vanilla frosting scent at the fore - I'm trying to put my finger on WHICH vanilla note it is, because it is very familiar. I think this is the "cream" vanilla note that is in a lot of the foodier scents and it is going a little plastic as it dries down (as that cream note tends to do on me). Also, this might have some kind of nut in it? It's starting to smell a bit like burning plastic on my skin, which is a sure sign of a nut. A possible keeper? needs more testing. ETA: upon further testing, this is almost a pure buttercream frosting scent. #411: This one is vanilla frosting too, but more of the cake note. This reminds me of the cupcake note from Cupcake Splatter Pattern Analysis. A much more sugary vanilla than the previous CT. Not bad, probably a keeper! #453: In the bottle, this smells like menthol. There is a STRONG peppermint note in this. On, this is a MUCH mintier Snowblind. Definitely a "cool" smell; I can picture myself possibly wearing this in the winter, particularly after the mint note fades a bit. This might be better with a bit of aging, but right now it's a little minty for me. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my first foray into Chaos scents!!

    Zombie Apocalypse v4

This smells like eggnog and coffee when wet - I've never smelled Eggnog Latte, but I wonder if this is anything like it. As it dries, there is a ginger and a buttery cake note - like yellow birthday cake. I don't get any fruit or apple from this, it is definitely a creamy cake scent. This is not an overly sugary scent. Very good throw and longevity, at least on me. Love it! FWIW, I do not get cinnamon from this at all, and I tend to amp cinnamon when it is present in blends. I also do not get the crust/scone note either, which tends to show up as an acrid plastic smell on my skin. I'm not sure I'll wear this much in the summer time, but during the winter this will definitely move into my rotation.

    Loli.Goth

This is pink and effervescent. I definitely get a little melon in this, which I love. Unfortunately, on the dry down, this smells a bit like hairspray on me. Le sigh.

    Desperately Seeking Bergamot!

I agree on Okayaki - I do find that quite bergamot-y. I also find Aizen-Myoo, Night-Guant and Shattered to have a bergamot feel (although I'm pretty sure in some of those the listed note is grapefruit.)
