    Cloister Graveyard in the Snow

At long last, this has arrived I've bought this blindly, mostly because I love musk, ozone and frankincense, and I trust the mint would behave. Plus, I love the painting In the bottle: mmmhhhh. Ozone, musk, a whiff of frankincense and a tiny slip of mint. On wet: Ohhh yes. Now that's the stuff. Sharp ozone, fresh spearmint and a bit of frankincense. What a wonderful start. Drydown: The musks come out a bit more and the mint turns more herbal and dry, which I like. Ozone stays strong, which I'm happy about because I always get disappointed when ozone is in an oil but eventually fades. I want it to stick around! Frankincense mingles with the musks a little and deepens them. Absolutely stellar, I love it

Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues

Now this one I'm slightly curious about - I bought this imp for the green musk , snakeskin and lime, but I wonder how the lemon rind and red currant will play along. I like red currant, but I hope it won't be overpowering - and lemon rind is the only form of lemon that works on me. In the imp - citrus and musk. On wet - Fruity and fresh! Citrus and red currant. Nothing else yet. Drydown - Hmm, nice but not as great as I had expected. Light musk, citrus and currant, but I don't detect anything that could be snakeskin. It's a good scent for the hot summer days, but not necessarily a favourite.

    Hemlock Honey

This is my first imp from the aviary! Frimped from the Lab - I don't know what to expect here, I have never smelled hemlock before. In the imp, this is a strangely lime green oil, and smells like green honey. On wet - OMG WOW. This is freaking amazing! Herbal honey, warm, golden green . . . mmfh. Why did I not try these sooner? And may this be a bottle purchase? Drydown - This this is sheer genius. Sweet mother of God. Definitely keeping the imp, and am considering a bottle. This is medicinal, green honey - if medicinal isn't your thing, you won't be impressed, but I for one love it, and I love this oil!

    The Lady of Shalott

Frimp from the Lab - this is a favourite of a friend of mine who I enabled to BPAL, so even if this doesn't work, I have a nice gift for her In the imp, this is white ginger and fresh aquatic notes, it smells like a milder Sea of Glass / Archangel Winter. On wet - yep, definitely a sweeter Sea of Glass! Very pretty. Florals, especially the water blossoms, come out well, and the aquatic notes and ginger cool them down. Drydown - the comparison to Sea of Glass continues, except now the florals take over a little more. The floral sweetness keeps me from really loving this, but this is such a spectacular perfume for people who like florals!

    The Caterpillar

A frimp from the Lab - without exception, the Mad Tea Party scents have been nothing but fail on me. I don't hold high hopes for this either - I can't stand carnation, jasmine nor neroli, but I do like moss, incense, patchouli and vetiver. Here we go again. In the imp, this is vetiver, jasmine and carnation. Not too awful, but I'm not sold. On wet, carnation and jasmine are blooming. Vetiver calms it all down but it's still too floral for my tastes. On drydown, the flowers mellow a littlebit - bergamot, patchouli, incense and vetiver take over a bit more - but it's still too floral for me. Pass. Shame

    Black Opal

Frimp from the Lab - I've always been vaguely interested in this scent but never enough to buy an imp. In the imp, this reminds me of Inganok Jewellers from this years Lupers. Musky, ambery stone. On wet, this is beautifully warm rock - more musk, more amber, the Lab's stone note and something creamy to this - I already like this a lot. On drydown this is frankly amazing. It stays close to the skin but is basically a creamy, ambery, stoney, musky vanilla - I think there's tonka in there too. Genius! This imp is a keeper

    Eve

In the imp: apple, ylang ylang and honey - not my thing, so far. On wet: faint apple, faint honey. Very light. Drydown: lightest rose, ylang ylang, fresh green apple and the sweetness of honey. A wonderful light, golden feminine scent, if not for me.

    Tombstone

This was a blind bottle purchase. People wouldn't stop talking about it and the description of cedar+vanilla+balsam just wouldn't leave me alone Though I don't know how the sassafras will play into it. In the bottle: cedar and sweet sassafras. On wet: straight-up sassafras. Oh dear. It's not that I don't appreciate it in certain amounts but I demand more of the other notes D: Drydown: sassafras, balsam and vanilla, creating a strange, near-minty zing and herbal base. The cedar is there, barely, a smoky, crisp undertone. I like this a lot but I hope I'll get more cedar and vanilla as this oil ages. The more it dries the more the sassafras behaves. I'll give it a full wear today to see where else it goes Later: OMG. A bit later and it's practically perfect. Creamy vanilla, balsam, a spark of sassafras and spicy cedar. Genius. So glad I got this

    Maiden

A gentle vision of purity, goodness and virtue: white tea, carnation and Damask Rose. Frimp from the lab - oh dear, rose and carnation, if ever two notes never worked on me . . . although, this is a lie, Damascus rose occasionally works, and it's in here - so why not try it? In the imp: rose, lots of rose. On wet: well-behaved rose and carnations. Drydown: much of the same, but deepened. This is a pure, uncomplicated, beautiful scent, perfectly befitting a tea party or stroll through the gardens. Not my kind of thing, but pretty.

    Kumiho

Been back and forth about trying this - love tea but ginger doesn't always work. This could go either way - let's see. In the imp: pleasant, slightly sweet ginger and a tea note. On wet: Fresh, pale green - this isn't ginger like gingerbread cookies, this is ginger like pickled ginger you eat with sushi, which I love The tea keeps it from being too sharp. Drydown: the tea takes precedence and the ginger only remains to add some spice and freshness. This is a refreshing, light, gorgeous scent, perfect for spring and summer. Keeping

    Calico Jack

in the imp: fresh, salty, leathery aquatic on wet: light, spiced aquatic with some depth, and not at all soapy - nice! Some musk here too, which I like. Drydown: Oh my god, this is amazing. This just explodes into a variety of notes as it dries salty leather, musk, wood, a hint of spice and the promised breath of sea air, which I've been hoping for with each Lab aquatic but which only appeared here. Rough and raw and salty! Freaking amazing I am going to give this a full-day test eventually. This imp is a keeper.

    Incantation

A frimp from the lab, and it was on my wishlist to boot Thanks, lab ninjas! In the imp: vetiver and sandalwood. I like On wet: Woods and sandalwood, deepend by vetiver. A spark of lemon rind. I love lemon rind because it's bitter and not as fruity as regular lemon Drydown: Light sandalwood, a well-behaved wood note and lemon rind, barely any vetiver at all - I expected a much darker scent here, but it still is very beautiful, so definitely a keeper

Chaos Theory IV: Edge of Chaos

Was gifted this, and oh boy am I excited - my first Chaos Theory! In the bottle: Wood and herbs and something fresh maybe . . . On wet: sweet wood, herbs and resins with light spices. This is a really awesome blend even if my nose isn't practiced enough to make out everything in an oil if it isn't told what to look for Drydown: sweet, slightly spicy herbs and resins bloody amazing There's clove here, I'm sure of it, and something juicy . . . I'm rubbish at describing this. It's a very warm, spicy, fruity, resiny scent.

Cleopatra Testing Poisons on Those Condemned to Death

Accidentally sent to me by the Lab, and they said I could keep it, which is ever so amazing I like trying Salon scents, they're so unique. In the bottle - something distant, woodsy and sweetly herbal. On wet - whoa! almond, honey, saffron and something both sweet and dangerous. Drydown - this becomes more complex and the sweetness and depth of the honey really blossoms now. Still herbal and there's still the faint whiff of almonds. It smells both poisonous and delicious. A terrific fragrance, even if it's not necessarily my kind of thing

    Endymion

I've always loved the story of Selune and Endymion I was just frimped this from the Lab and while I anticipate that it won't do much for me - too floral from the looks of the notes - I so rarely get oils with a pear note and I want to know what that's like In the imp - faint, faint, so cold and distant - musk, and something cold-sweet. On wet - pear, lily and a bit of rose. Drydown - so faint, so beautifully, beautifully, faint, like a fragile youth under the moon . . . absolutely breathtaking, this one, even if it's not my kind of scent - I'm still keeping the imp because it's so positively enchanting and captures the story so well White, cold musk, lily and rose, and the cold tartness of the pear, all of it ethereal and barely sensed - staggeringly beautiful.

    Hollywood Babylon

Frimp from the Lab. Hmm, sounds intriguing, I like all the notes - especially amber, musk, vanilla & heliotrope - but the cherry and the strawberry could kill everything. Going boldly now where no man . . . well, okay, a few noses have gone before! In the imp - why hello, cherry and vanilla. On wet - cherrycherrycherrycherry. That does it, my skin amps no note as badly as it amps cherry and it always ends up smelling like cherry coughdrops. Whyyyy? Drydown - well, at least the cherry goes away a little . . . after that, creamy vanilla with musk and amber. The cherry remains though, and throws off the whole thing for me . . . without it I think I would've liked this blend a lot more. It's very rich and luxurious and if you, unlike me, happen to like cherry, this is a great, delicious, compelx scent with ample of it.

    Dragon's Hide

Flame-kissed, warm, smooth, and highly protective. Dragon’s blood, leather and a hint of smoke. I love dragon's blood, I love the Lab's leather note and I hope the smoke will translate to vetiver In the imp - beautifully red oil that smells faintly of dry dragon's blood. On wet - surprisingly faint. I was hoping for something really smoky and smoldering! But not bad, either. Basically straight-up dragon's blood. We'll see how this develops. Drydown - faint leather and dragon's blood with not much smoke here, dry and fairly close to the skin. I may need to try this again to fully make up my mind about it.

    Bayou

Frimp from the Lab. Swampy smells can really go either way for me, but I'm up for trying just about anything In the imp - faint, aquatic swamp blossoms. On wet - lots of florals and some aquatic notes. Drydown - this reminds me a lot of Dunwich, except a bit fresher. Aquatic notes, evergreen, and some now very distant florals. It's nice, but not my favourite aquatic. At least the florals aren't aggressive here, it's very soothing and not at all as sweaty and hot as you'd imagine a Bayou scent to be (this is definitely a good thing)!

    Velvet

Envelop yourself in the soft, sensual embrace of gentle sandalwood warmed by cocoa vanilla and a veil of deep myrrh. I swear, the Labbies are psychic! This has been on my wishlist forever and I was wondering whether or not to try this, and voila! A frimp arrives I expect this to be similar to Wulric in scent, but I might of course be completely off. In the imp - sweet, dry cocoa and a shot of vanilla. On wet -more of the same with the dustiness of sandalwood. Tasty, but not as deep as Wulric so far. Drydown - this is astonishing. Wasn't a fan of it in the wet phase but a few minutes later and wow - myrrh and sandalwood with a dusting of dry cocoa, only faintly sensed as something sweetening the resins, and the creaminess of vanilla. This is getting a full day test. Am utterly transfixed. Yes please!

    Yggdrasil

I have a big interest in Norse Myths and I remember ever since I was a kid, the concept of Yggdrasil, this tree at the center of all life, was deeply fascinating. It was always one of those oils I had to try. I'm expecting something woody, green and herbal here. In the imp - green and herbal, slightly medicinal. On wet - oh wow! Definitely herbal. I smell mint, possibly sage, possibly rosemary, and a lot of green. Reminds me of the most comforting cold medicine imagineable. That may sound like a turn-off but it isn't, it's very pleasant Drydown - an unseeming, relaxing, herbal green scent that stays close to the skin. I wish I could make out more of the notes here, but am consistently failing everytime I try . . . beautiful, though!

    Penitence

I've been dying to try this ever since hearing it being compared to Cathedral, which is one of my favourite all-time BPAL oils In the imp - distant, light incense. On wet - this is definitely Cathedral lite. It lacks Cathedral's stone, wood and beeswax notes and is pure, light, sweet incense. Very, very pretty. Drydown - oh, gorgeous I still prefer Cathedral because I like the depth that the notes give it, especially the wax scent, but this is light, elevating, like sun through a stained glass window, like a golden day in a serene church. Utterly, utterly breathtaking. Beautiful

    Anathema

Frimp from the Lab I've been back and forth on whether to try this. I love opium smoke and vetiver but I wasn't sure about the honeysuckle. In the imp - sweetened vetivert and a distant whiff of opium. On wet - pretty much single note vetiver, except if you're like me, that's not a bad thing I love vetiver. Very smoky and leathery, definitely nice. Maybe slightly sweet, but mostly vetiver through and through. Drydown - this sweetens and lightens tremendously. Opium deepens the vetiver and honeysuckle keeps it fresh. Maybe not necessarily my thing but a beautiful, dark fragrance from start to finish; dark, resinous, but not heavy, like a beautiful woman in a black evening gown who knows exactly how to kill a man with a tilt of her neck.

    Nero

A frimp from a forumite, especially lovely because it was on my wishlist I just love herbs and pine and I can't wait to see how they work with a zing of lemon. In the imp - omg strong! Nice, but completely unexpected. Bay and rosemary first, then an undercurrent of pine. On wet - holy smokes. This is strong and deep and whoa. It hits me in the face everytime I just near it for a whiff. Rosemary mostly with a pine undercurrent. No lemon so far. Christ alive this is strong. I've never had anything with this much throw. Good god. Drydown - to quote the great Evil Dead 2, for god's sake, how do you stop it?! It just doesn't lighten. It just stays strong, punch-you-in-the-nose rosemary and pine with a sort of faint lemon . . . really unpleasant because of it's strength. Not for me.

    Caliban

Was frimped this . . . right after I placed a Lab order including an imp of it Such is life sometimes. Well, it's still good, because I know somebody who wants to try it, alternately, if I really love it, I would definitely want two imps In the imp - tropical is right! Tropical and green. The greenery of palm and fern with the depth of wine and a hint of salt. On wet - very, very nice! This continues with the tropical greenery and a whiff of distant wine. I hope there will be more water as this dries. Drydown - oh, crumbs. No water, just more greenery. It swiftly takes on a sort of swampy aspect too, very murky, where I expected clean aquatic like a spray of seawater. Green and aquatic but no saltwater and no wine. It's nice, but nothing to write home about.

    Perchta

Was frimped this from a very generous forumite - I don't often have the opportunity to test old LEs so this is wonderful Especially since I love musk and snow notes In the imp - sweet and musky, light florals. On wet - There's some pine there, and mild florals, and a dusting of musk - not at all what I expected but very nice. Drydown - oh, this is soooo nice Snowy pines, perfect musk and a hint of sweetnes. I love it I think I'd like it a bit more without the sweetness . . . but it's a beautiful scent and I will keep it around either for winter or for summer nights when I really want to dream of winter.
