This was one of those "Oh my god, get it off!" scents for me. It was like peaches and medicine and children's chewable vitamins all at once. The latter make me nauseated when I smell them so this was not good. It's the iron in them! Ugh! I used to spit those things out secretly when I was a kid. I really can't even catch a fleeting sniff of this- makes my stomach turn. *queasy*

    Salomé

I got FOOM a big burst of floral at first and then before I could yell out EW JASMINE! it suddenly changed to a tart cherry scent layered with musk, not unlike Voodoo. Mmmm musky musky cherry love now. Fruity and red with dark spices. I do feel like doing a little shimmy dance. It also, like Voodoo, turns me on. Definitely getting more spicy, almost "woody" as time goes on.

    Thunderbird

Wet, this was pears and cream, interesting. The ozone tingled my nose a bit and emerged stronger as it dried. Slowly this became like a Victoria's Secret rain scented body tonic I had in the 1990s... kind of a chemical scent, a blue, watery scent, but not a scent that reminds me of anything about a real rainstorm. As time passes.... well, it seems to stay the same. I detect a slight yellow fruity smell behind the faux-rain but nothing too pervasive. Ugh, I can't get this out of my nose!

On initial application- jasmine! Hello there jasmine! I smell a hint of something resembling iris... it's very floral but at the same time, better than most florals. Hm... sandalwood, musk, vanilla.. all of these take a backseat initially. The vanilla slowly emerges to sweeten the florals, but it's very faint. The sandalwood is just missing. Drydown is much sweeter and less floral, kinda musky too. I wish it was like this all the time. Don't think I can bear with the initial floral stage, but this is certainly one of the more interesting florals I've tried.

    Cerberus

Oh god... in the bottle I smell overly sweet red candy, like the glaze on candy apples. I have the fear. On me it is red red red nauseatingly redder than Red Moon red. Then it's slightly citrusy underneath the red torture. Fruit punch mixed with lemonade in the school cafeteria. It IS like one of those chcolates filled with liquid cherry juice, and I HATE those. Why did I think I'd like Cerberus then? Well, I'll be patient with it. Oh, this is a shame. The drydown is really lovely- after about an hour it just becomes kind of nutty and musky.

    Shub-Niggurath

In the bottle I was a bit worried- it smells like the too-sweet gingerbread cookie scents that many small soap retailers use. I love gingerbread but I like it darker and spicier. On me this has a dark, almost woody undertone to it. It still has that slightly too-sweet aspect to it. Hmmm doesn't seem to be getting any muskier or spicier. Still sweeeeeet. After some time... still too sweet. Alas, I like my ginger without sugar.

    Cheshire Cat

At first I was sad that this is discontinued! It's yummy grapefruit but so much more as well- it's just a sweet, sugary undertone that I am enjoying- grapefruit and sugar and ... oh hm, I just caught a wiff of what smelled like citronella. Oh sad, now the citronella is getting stronger. I may have found my BPAL bug repellent. Oh it was so good wet. More citronella. It's fighting a losing battle with the sweetness underneath.

    Nine Mysteries

Yay for frimps! Hmmmm I needed a little boost today so this was a great choice. Out of the imp it smelled very insistently pepperminty, as others have noted. As it begins to dry I smell a tart fruitiness to it- like a melon, almost. It's blending with the mint in a very interesting way. It's still tingling my nose when I sniff my wrist. Yum! I do smell orange... or is it grapefruit... or is it melon... in there. Fruity mint, which sounds gross when I say it, but I'm oddly enjoying it. As it dries I can smell a touch of violet in the peppermint and tart fruit. It's getting sweeter, while still minty. It gets a little soapy on me as time passes, without losing it's other notes. It's still pleasant. Overall it's kind of like what happens when I accidently mix peppermint and grapefruit essential oils in my burner.

    Miskatonic University

The scent of Irish coffee, dusty tomes and polished oakwood halls. Well, in the bottle this absolutely reeks of Irish coffee powder, the stuff I used to pour into my instant coffee in highschool. Way too sweet for me. On my skin a scent kind of like leather emerges. I can smell the leather books mixed with a strong brew of Irish coffee. It's very pungent! I detect something like a mint in here as well but it's getting less minty and more smokey as it goes. With some time.... strong leather and less Irish coffee. Wow, I am impressed by the depth of this. It seems so brash at first but it really has got some interesting elements.

    Frost Moon

Uh-oh, I knew what this was the second I smelled it- it was the mint flouride that my dentist used to use. Oh god, my stomach turned immediately (and I usually love mint scents). It's that mint with a strange fruity undertone, in a paste. It's somewhat of the way toothpaste mingles with flouride treatment It's such a strong visual association for me that I find myself unable to even be around this. Funny how scents can take you back to such a specific time and place. Drydown: *tentative sniff* Arghhhh it's still there! Mommmmm I don't want to go to the dentist!

    Yog-Sothoth

Wow, this does smell like dryer sheets. *blink blink* Like those "powder fresh" dryer sheets I used to buy. Maybe Snuggle brand? I actually coughed when I took a wiff of the Yog. It's kind of soapy as well, like a chemical "fresh" scent. You know how air smells when you walk outside of a building past it's laundry room? That's this scent... laundry. For me it never changed over time. Ooooof. Naughty Yog.

    Lex Talionis

A very strong scent that got up my nose very quickly, but the patchouli is quite prominent and I like that! I can smell the myrhh too! Mmmmmmm! I think I really enjoy wearing Lex- it reminds me of other patchouli blends but it just lacks the sweet kick that is usually combined with one of those. The vetiver is like an aftershock. When I pull my nose away, then I can smell it- it comes last with it's smokiness. As this dries it smells increasingly woody, a very cedery scent mixed with something darker. Sometimes when smelling BPAL I don't detect any of the listed ingredients but this blend has them all popping out in turn. The more this sits the more it kind of smells like sweaty armpit. Hmmmm I think my final verdict is "a good patchouli scent" but could be better.

    Absinthe

Well! This smells like a mojito to me- and perhaps I've been drinking too many of them this summer. It's got a strong sense of mint to it, with a definitely perceptible anise kick to it. I can picture using this as a room scent, actually! The longer I wear it I can detect what some people found soapy about it, but the fresh herby smell overrides that for me. After a while it's just pure anise for me... still a good home scent.

    Wolfsbane

This reeks of rose on me- like the rose scented cold cream I have or the Caswell-Masey hand lotion; definitely an old-fashioned cosmetics smell. When I first put it on it had sort of a masculine, spicy kick but the rose came out before too long. So sweet. Drydown is more rose. This is the purest rose scent I've smelled yet from BPAL. Wow, I might have freaky chemistry.

    Wicked

Hmmm ROSE! Why hello there Rose. I see you've brought your timid friend Jasmine. My, aren't you floral. Let's sit a little while... .... Rose, what did you do with Jasmine? Oh, you killed her? Well...that was rude. You smell like a Caswell- Masey store, Rose. This does soften to a nice floral and I definitely recommend it for those who enjoy rose, or those who enjoy a particularly Victorian sensibility. It's one of the nicer florals I've tried and this was a gift- I don't even like florals much but I can tolerate this one!

    Eclipse

Holy Christmas it's maraschino cherries! I feel like I'm drinking a Shirley Temple here! Yes that's what is screaming from my wrist at the moment! It's still wet though so let's see what happens. As this dries I smell more cinnamon... mmmm I like this better. It reminds me of a cinnamon and nutmeg ice cream that I store I worked in for a while sold. Very creamy cinnamon. I applied this wet a second time and got marzipan, possibly my favorite food ever. *swoon* Occasionally I get a nice zingy wiff of cinnamon! Yum!

    Vixen

You know what happens when you put Vixen on while alone? You start thinking... "wow.. I'm sexy" I can't stop slathering this on my wrists. It's got my favorite ingredients- orange blossom, ginger, and patchouli. The result is a sweet-spicy-heady combination. It's somewhat like molasses at times, but better (or I'd save some money) I smell cookies in it, but not in a sugary way. The patchouli isn't too overbearing. Please don't ever stop making this, lab. It's sexiness in a bottle.

    Hetairae

This reminds me of fresh, local honey. It's not as sweet as most store-bought honeys, and is slightly herbal as well. I want to mix this with Lush's Honey Bee Have powder and BNever shower gel. Wet, I can smell the patchouli. I'm a fan of the way it ads a musky layer to the honey. This is better than honey, and smells so familar at first before drying down into something unique. As this dries it actually becomes a bit more herbal. Mmm spicy! I thought this would be too sweet for me but it's a versatile and consistently morphing scent. Overall I guess I have to say YUM!

    Crossroads

Wow this is strong! I needn't have put as much on my wrists as I did! It also reminds me a bit of men's cologne- the yellow colored kind that comes in clear bottles. I do sense some earthiness but this is much lighter than I expected, and definitely has a strong jasmine note. I only smell a hint of mossiness.

    Penitence

This smells sweet, and kinda like wood to me. Definitely church incensey. It reminds me of a funeral. I get a really strong death sense from it (maybe too many Catholic relatives). I don't think I could wear this for that reason. It does go awfully sweet on me, not the darker scent I was hoping for. As time passes it becomes musky again- the very embodiment of Church incense. I love that smell, just not exactly on me. However, I just told my husband, a Catholic about this scent and he got really excited, wanting a 10ml bottle to scent the house with. Should I be afraid? Nah, it'll make a good house scent.

    Kweku Anansi

Very mossy and dark at first... but as it sits it begins to remind me of a Christmas store- there is something in there that smells like dark red berries, cinnamon, and pine.... or the kind of smell one associates with an "olde country store". Maybe it's the nutmeg and thyme that just remind me of these things? Maybe it's the wood? It just smells like those wreaths with the fake red berries that you can hang up on your door. Decorative wreaths.... After about an hour it becomes very perfumey on me- I smell sweetness and a bit of a mossy undertone but that's about it. Hm. It's so bitter when wet though. I have no idea what I think of this! I can't make up my mind!

    Urd

Oh my god.... wow. When I opened my imp I first thought: grape bubblegum- just smelling it from a distance. On me it became musky really quickly and I definitely smell the patchouli, but it's still sweet. I have to agree with the association between this and an old, kinda hippie-ish shop. It brings me right back to an old Deadhead, hippie wares store in my hometown ... this was the scent of many different kinds of incense combining. It's insanely powerful, a scent I can only describe for myself as "moving". This falls into the extreme obsession category. LOVE.

    Silk Road

Ok, this was gifted to me with an ebay purchase and lord knows it has enough reviews, but here's one more. This might be my new favorite BPAL scent. I am absolutely smitten. It's sweet, but with an incensey undertone. I want to say it has sandalwood or pachouli in it somewhere; the musk is similar to to the ambient smell of a wee hippie store in my hometown, bit with a lovely sweetness on top. The scent is so jarring that it also brought me immediately back to the smell of an occult store I used to go in. I was once compelled to ask one of the proprieters what she used to scent the room, but she just shrugged and smiled. I've always wondered. This is the smell of heavy black velvet curtains, a cool room with many little bottles in it. The kind of scent you only get when you're in a place that carries many different perfumes... it's the mingling of many layers. I never thought anyone would bottle that; I thought I'd have to just haunt perfumiers and occult shops.

    Midwinter's Eve

Woah! This is so sweet my teeth hurt a bit! On me I smell a strawberry bubblegum smell- the same powdered sugar/fruit scent. I can almost feel the texture of the soft gum. Very pinky-red scent. But I'll give it some time to dry down more.... Ok.... very fruity, definitely reminiscent of Christmas berries. I could almost say cranberry sauce now, as it's more tart and less sugary than it initially was. It smells a bit too much like synthetic drugstore strawberry scents to me though. I only have a wee decanted imp of it, but I think that'll be enough.

    Satyr

Wow... this reminds me of Lush's Middle Earth Turns to Rock soap (METTR). It's musky and dark and yes, very masculine and sexy. I tried it on me first but definitely plan to pass it on to my husband. There is definitely something earthy, mossy about this scent. It smells humid, like steam, like the inside of my gecko's tank when fresh loam was put into it... mixed with something slightly sweet. It is the smell of dirt and spice. Definitely sexual, and definitely something I want to smell on a guy.
