    Centzon Totochtin

This was a frimp from the lab. I knew I wouldn't like this before I even tried it on, because I just can't handle foody scents. And, of course, it was a complete disaster on me. Almost unbearingly sickly sweet. It does smell like chocolate and alcohol and blood, but that's where the problem lies! My skin amps it up to an unbelievable extent and it's not pleasant. But, hardly a surprise.

    All Saints'

I have the 2005 version of this on order, but was offered the chance to have a sniff of the 2004 version...and I'm glad I did because I am now really looking forward to my bottle! All Saints is a very appropriate name for this scent because it smells just like a church. Fragrant incense, with whiffs of the flowers that sit on the altar. I can't pick out a particular floral, except perhaps for lily of the valley, because they are well blended and convey a sense of flowers rather than one specific flower in itself. There is something vaguely foody about this - I agree, almost like bread baking - which just adds to the almost sacred nature of this blend because it is very reminisicent of the Catholic communion. It's really evocative and beautifully blended. Definitely a good autumn-y scent.

    International Shipping Info+Questions

On one occasion, a BPAL swap of mine was opened in customs (I am in Australia), but it didn't seem to delay the package, they just stuck a big green sticker on it to indicate that it had been opened. Orders from the lab arrive here safely and they are quick! I got a CNS on Thursday and it was here by Monday last time

    Marquise de Merteuil

I bought this hoping for a predominantly jonquil scent. I absolutely love the smell of jonquils - I grow them and have had big bunches in the house all winter. This isn't as jonquil as I had imagined, but damn, I think I'm falling in love with it anyway. This is far fruitier than I had thought. Peach has never worked for me before - it's always been overwhelmed by other notes - but this is a really juicy, overripe peach scent. Almost like rotting peaches (in the good way!) There is a hint of debauchery and voluptuousness about it. I keep on getting hints of jonquil and sophisticated florals underneath the peach, which is lovely. Vetiver, which is absolutely horrid on me, is barely present except for an underlying darkness to the scent. This is heady, luxurious, decadent and just a bit evil, in a very seductive way. Perfect for the name. Not what I expected, but I'm very pleased just the same!

    Goneril

This was extremely sharp on me upon application. I don't know what is causing the sharpness, however. Upon dry down the florals are barely present, although there are hints of lily underneath - the cedarwood dominates on my skin. There is still a definite sharpness to it and it is a very strong scent with lots of throw. Not for me, unfortunately.

    Bayou

I adore this. On me, this is lush, wet and steamy - a humid scent. I can smell flowers and possibly grapefruit, as there is definitely an aquaticness to this scent. I can't pick out any individual flowers, it is blended so well, but there is definitely a mossy smell to it. It smells exactly how I imagine a bayou would smell. I can't stop sniffing my wrist, this is just gorgeous. Definitely a big bottle purchase.

    Numb

I absolutely love Numb. It's powdery, soft-yet-metallic violets on me. It's very clean smelling, if that makes sense. I think what threw everyone off is that it is not icy in the way that a few of Beth's other winter blends seem to be (Ice Queen, Snow White etc). It's exactly what the name suggests - it's kinda numbing. Like, it would numb away heat the way ice numbs your skin. It's very sophisticated and almost nostalgic in a weird way. I love it and it is going to be awesome for the Australian summer.

    Bearded Lady

Bearded Lady perplexes me. It has all of my favourite notes - rose, jasmine, stargazer lily, orchid, amber - but it doesn't work on me at all. Instead, it is just single note vanilla on me with no florals discernable at all. Would have liiked more florals, less vanilla as vanilla always goes sickly sweet on my skin. A disappointment.

    Black Dahlia

Black Dahlia is a very lush floral - I'm mostly getting magnolias and jasmine, with a hint of amber underneath. It is very Southern-Belle, with just a hint of darkness underneath. Very evocative of the 40s and an old-style sophisticated perfume. Definitely going to have to get a bottle of this, I can't stop sniffing my wrist. This has gone striaght into my top 5 BPALs, it's so delicious!

    Jezebel

I tried this months ago and couldn't identify what I didn't like about it, and I tried it again today, now that I know a little bit more about how to identify different notes. And I still am having a very 'eh' reaction to it. Honey and roses are fantastic on me, but unfortunately, all I'm getting out of this is orange blossom, which is turning very sickly sweet on me. If I press my nose to my wrist I get a faint whiff of rose, which is nice, but it is predominantly heady orange blossom and it's giving me a bit of a headache. Amazing! A floral that doesn't love me?

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

Eve is pink roses on me, with a helping of apple blossom.

    Discussion of all things Amber

Blood Amber. Yummy amber mixed with gorgeous dragon's blood. It's very good

    Sister likes Vera Wang

Morgause is the purplest smelling blend to me, so you might want to try that. Ace of Hearts sounds fairly similar to what you described, but that's an LE. Viola has nearly all the notes in it that you listed, so you might want to try that! Ophelia has lotus and white roses - that's a gorgeous scent. Goneril has geranium and calla lily. Or there's always Tiger Lily for a honeyed lily scent. Hope that helps.

    I need more Cherry!

Horn of Plenty turned into cough syrup on me and just got stronger as the day wore on However, Jailbait was quite nice on me...bubblegummy, but then it dried down to a lovely floral with just a hint of cherry in the background.

    Pannychis

This is a juicy, luscious, clean white floral. I love jasmine scents, and whilst I still prefer Nuit and Morgause, this is right up there. The currant gives it a fruitiness without being too fruity, and it smells like jasmine and moonflower covered by night dew. I love it and it smells awesome on me.

    Two, Five & Seven

This is quite medicinal and green in the bottle. However, directly upon application and on the skin it becomes exactly what it says it is - a huge bouquet of every different kind of rose you can imagine. It is like walking around a rose garden, complete with the scent of the green grass. Lovely, fresh and immensely wearable rose scent.

    Roadhouse

This is certainly unique. In the imp and upon application, it is dandelion and alcohol and cigarettes. Smells exactly like a Roadhouse. As it dries down, it is turning into beer. It is certainly a skilful blend, and I have no idea Beth does it, but I don't really want to smell like I've spent the night boozing it up at a seedy pub, so I think I'll pass this one along.

    New Orleans

I found wearing this quite affecting at this time. I absolutely love this scent. Jasmine is one of my very favourite notes, and this is just a gorgeous jasmine. The honeysuckle gives it a beautiful lushness, whilst the lemon and spices give it a bit of a spicy kick. It is very evocative of the city. It has good throw and has lasted well over 12 hours for me. I love this, and will definitely get a bottle.

Looking for a BPAL similar to a Clinique Fragrance

From memory, Happy is a very light, breezy citrus scented perfume, so perhaps Embalming Fluid would be a good way to go?

    Ace of Hearts

This is one of the prettiest scents that I have ever smelt - it might have gone straight into my top three blends. In the bottle and upon application, it is a lush, almost heady white floral, filled with white roses and orchid and lotus. Upon drydown, it becomes slightly more rosey, but in a beautiful, fresh way. It really does smell like a fresh bunch of flowers. It is so girly and sweet and classically beautiful. I'm in love

    Jewel Tone Scents

Belladonna smells like green in liquid form to me. So you might try that for emeralds.

    Belladonna

This was the first scent I ever tried, but I didn't get around to reviewing it because I couldn't pick out any notes or say anything besides 'this is nice'. But I tried it again today and I think I can be slightly more eloquent. This is a very, very green scent on me. In the imp, it is quite medicinal, but this settles down on the skin to a pleasant piney, herbal scent. I am not getting as many flowers as I would like, however. Not something I can see myself wearing regularly, but it is a very fresh, evocative scent, so I will use up my imp.

    Job Interview Recommendations

Wear your very favourite scent. The scent that makes you happy when you wear it. That way, you'll feel confident and happy and ready to tackle the interview

    Love in the Asylum

This is just gorgeous. In the imp, it is a very rich, lush red rose scent. It doesn't change very much for me - it stays rich, deep red rose, with an underlying smokey, creamy base. I am starting to get some of the carnation now...I have had it on for about two hours. Gorgeous rose scent...I love it

    Iambe

In the imp, and directly upon application, this smelled weird to me. Like, dirty? Maybe it was the patchouli. Anyway, as it dried down I got a pleasant amber, tea and very light floral scent (the florals are kinda lurking in the background, but very faintly). Really pretty, but I think I'll just use up my imp and pass on the bottle - I have to wait a while for it to become pleasant on me.
