    Othello

I can see where the comparisons to Dior's Poison are coming from...this is musky and sexy and dark in the same way. I love Othello. On me, it is a very sexy, spicy, musky rose. Really exotic and gorgeous. It doesn't smell particularly masculine to me, but I do think either gender could wear it. Spicy scents are usually disastrous on me, but this one works beautifully. Even the musk is behaving itself! This is a very sexy, slinky scent and once again I am amazed by the variety of BPAL rose scents.

    Al-Araaf

I cannot believe how overwhelmingly successful the DIMV series has been for me. This is utterly GORGEOUS. Honeyed lilies. Gorgeous honeyed liles. It's fresh and feminine and romantic and sweet. Absolutely adore this one.

    Luna

In the bottle and directly upon application, the predominant notes were almond and cherry. Whilst cherry usually goes wrong on me, this was actually quite a nice cherry. However, upon dry down it becomes a very jasmine blend, with a hint of honeysuckle maybe? And ylang ylang? As I am one of those few people who counts jasmine as one of my top three notes, that suits me just fine. A sweet, juicy white floral blend - very feminine, a little mysterious, and perfectly evocative of the Moon.

    Phantasm

This is a very 'tea' scent on me. The green tea dominates, with a hint of lemon verbena and neroli wafting up now and then. The jasmine gets stronger upon drydown, but green tea remains the dominant note for me. Overall, I quite like this - it's very girly and summery and sweet without being overwhelming. Good for everyday wear.

    Lear

This scent smells like old man. That is not a bad thing, but it is very true of this scent. It perfectly conveys the regalness and fraility of Lear. It is very earthy and woodsy, and I think the dominant note I get from this is bay leaf. I suspect there is vetiver in this, too, which is probably the smell that is going a little bit wrong on me...a little too mossy and dark. Overall, a very evocative scent that perfectly suits its name, although it's not for me.

    Lolita

At first, I didn't think I'd like this because orange rarely works on me. However, I found myself really loving this perfume. It's a sweet, heady citrus-y floral scent. It's like lollipops over floral perfume, if that makes sense. The orange blossom and honeysuckle are the dominating notes, with lemon verbena and neroli balancing the scent out underneath. Perfect for Lolita - it's sexiness and flirtatiousness and innocence all at once.

    Ouija

This scent is so distinctly Victorian. It smells like roses and lilac and old books and a stately Victorian parlour. But it's not boring at all - it's a very multi-layered scent, with wood notes to ground the florals. The rosewood comes out strong in the dry-down, which is lovely and adds a certain resonance to the rose top note. This is very pretty, and a lovely addition to my ever-growing collection of BPAL rose scents.

    Dragon's Eye

This is a really classic, everday, pretty perfume. The dragon's blood gives it a bit of a kick, and it is really quite sexy. The florals mix gorgeously with the dragon's blood - sharp, but not too sharp. This is a pretty, floral, spicy perfume that would be perfect for everyday use.

    Les Fleurs du Mal

This is a very heavy, very deep and very dark floral. Be warned, it is strong! You only need a dab. But it is so beautiful that it's worth a try. The lilac is the strongest note on me, but underneath you can smell the wisteria and rose floating along, and it's just gorgeous. This is a very feminine, almost Victorian, floral scent.

    Snow Moon

I thought I wouldn't like this after hearing about how piney it is, but I do, surprisingly enough. I am getting a little bit of pine, with flowers underneath. I can definitely see where others are getting the touch of eucalyptus, but it is not so much as to be overwhelming - it is merely a hint of it. It's definitely a cold scent, but it has a bit of sweetness which makes me suspect there is something berry in it. In fact, I'm almost positive that there is a berry note in this...it comes out stronger the longer I have it on.

What do bottles and labels look like?

I don't have a digital camera, but Urania's label is awesome. It has a classical-Greek-looking woman, and then a circle with stars and stuff in it. Gorgeous.

    Marie

A blend of sinuous violet and elegant tea rose: the chosen scent of France’s Demigoddess of Debauch: Marie Antoinette. I think I have found my ultimate violet scent. The violet in Marie mixes beautifully with the rose to create a soft, pretty floral scent - the violet loses the sharpness I have noticed in other BPAL violet scents, and becomes kinda lush and decadent. This is a sophisticated, sexy, very strongly feminine scent.

    Glasgow

Mmm, I love this. Glasgow is a berries-and-floral scent on me, with a hint of green grass underneath. I have never visited Scotland or smelt the moors, but this is exactly what I imagine they smell like. There is even a hint of wind about this scent, somehow. Definitely getting a big bottle of this.

    Stardust

I love Stardust! It smells like the 70s...a bit of champagne, some tobacco (only a touch...enough to convey the atmosphere of a club but not enough to make you smell like an ash-tray), flowers, white musk and glitter. It smells like the old perfumes my mother used to wear when I was a kid. Definitely a party scent. It's fun and bubbly and sparkly.

    The Peacock Queen

I have no idea how Beth managed to create the scent equivalent of 'haughty', but she's done it. Amazing. This is a rich, deep, voluptuous rose scent. Imagine the biggest, showiest, velvety red rose. That's what The Peacock Queen smells like. It's beautiful, and it knows it is beautiful. Absolutely wonderful perfume.

    Rose Red

2005 Version This has been described as the scent of a fresh, chilled rose - one that has just come out of the florist's fridge. I can't improve on that description, so I'm not going to try. I will say that this smells more like a rose than anything I have ever smelt, from the bud to the stem to the leaves. It smells like I have a roes sitting on my desk, it is so real. Absolutely love this - can't talk highly enough about it.

Bridal BPAL - BPAL for weddings?

I'd probably go for Ace of Hearts...not just for the name, but because it smells like a bunch of flowers and is so pretty and soft and romantic.
  18. Is there a BPAL scent that smells like 'Twas The Night Before Christmas soap? I am totally in love with that scent, it's gorgeous.

    Val Sans Retour

Wow, this is a strong one! I received this as a frimp in my latest order and I was excited to get a sneak preview, so to speak. However, I can't say I'd buy this again because this is a little much for me? It's a very bright, almost overwhelmingly so, citrus-herb-pine scent and it reminds me a little of pine furniture cleaner. It has lots of throw, though, and I think if you like pine scents, you should like this one. Just not for me.

    Villain

This is definitely a men's cologne scent - which is not a bad thing, at all. The predominant note in this for me is lavender, but lilac and citrus are definitely there as well. It has a distinct musky smell to it. This is very, very masculine, despite the flowers...a little bit naughty, too (befitting the name). Too masculine for me, but really, really good on a man.

    White Rabbit

At first, this smelt exactly like lemon-scented detergent on me. I imagine it was the linen. After about an hour and a half, the black tea and honey started to come out, but I never got any milk or vanilla out of this, which is very unusual as my skin tends to amp vanilla up like woah. The second stage was nicer than the first, because it became more of a tea scent, but the linen (which usually works on me) stayed detergenty, which was pretty disappointing.
  22. Scarlettfish

    Vinland

At first, this smelt like a mixture of potpourri and medicine on me. However, as it dried down I smelt plants and dirt and flowers and just the smell of outdoors, which was nice. The longer I have it on, the more berry I get out of this. I didn't think I'd like this one at first, but I think I might just be falling in love with it.
  23. Scarlettfish

    Evening Star

This is one of the most utterly beautiful scents I have ever smelt. Very light and ethereal, this smells like the night sky, if it is possible for the night sky to have a smell. It is wonderfully evocative of its name, and is kinda silvery-white, with a bit of purple. A white floral with a musky, almost herbal undertone. I absolutely adore this.
  24. Scarlettfish

    Nyarlathotep

I didn't think I'd like this at all, because I'm not an incense kinda girl, but this is surprisingly nice. It is very ozoney on me - almost a tangy salt air smell. Definitely a masculine aquatic, with a hint of darkness and smokiness from the incense. Very complex and well blended.

    Cathedral

Cathedral smells exactly like a cathedral. In that it smells like the incense burned at church. I am not a huge fan of incense - I can handle it when it is mixed with other scents (like in All Saints) - but this is much too much for me. Almost overwhelmingly incense-y and it's way too harsh for me.
