    Kitsune-Tsuki

Kitsune-Tsuki is officially the floral I love. The musk and tiniest bit of plum keep the florals (particularly the orchid that my skin loves to amp up) balanced. It stayed sweet smelling and well blended the entire time it was on. No one note overpowers any of the others.

    Torture King

This was strong, very green and just a bit sharp on me, at first. After awhile, the frankincense and musk came out and softened this up a bit. It was masculine, but not as much as I expected. However, none of the boubon, clove or mandarin came out on me, which was a bit of a disappointment. On the male companion, this was gorgeous. It just blended into this light herbal smoke and leather scent. The clove and bourbon actually came out on him, and sweetened this just a little. It ended up being a great mix of notes, and surprisingly soft. Either way - Torture King gets a big thumbs up. ETA: After wearing this a second time, I am in love. This time there was a lot of clove and bourbon and the weird green sharpness didn't appear at all. It was still strong and a little masculine, but so gorgeous that I am thinking of swiping the bottle from the male companion on occassion.

    Freak Show

Freak Show is my big love from Carnival Noir, at least so far. At first, it is sweet and spicy. It smells like cloves and fig, with an undercurrent of this fantastic musk. Amazing. After awhile, there is a bit of a similarity to 13, but I can't place the note exactly - something sweet and wet, like a chocolate covered iris that seems to pop out in both oils on me. I really wish I could place it exactly, since it is both pleasant and really odd. The 13 stage doesn't last very long, and the majority of the time Freak Show is just spicy/sweet goodness. I just can't get enough of it.

    Snake Charmer

This is smokey and incense-y on me. The vanilla is a background note that makes this just a bit sweet, and the touch of black coconut that comes out gives this a bit of an exotic feel. The amber is really the most prominent note on me, which seems to be really hit or miss with my chemistry. Luckily it works in Snake Charmer.

    Machu Picchu

This is very breezy and fresh. There is a wetness to the scent that is very pleasant. I didn't get much fruit, but there is an underlying sweetness that hints at it. Overall, this is a pretty, clean scent.

    Midway

This is amazingly delicious! On, it is cotton candy and buttery caramel. It doesn't have as much staying power as I would like, but it has great throw and made several of my friends' mouths water. It is a perfect rendition of a carnival midway.

    Milk Moon 2005

This is beautiful - a soft milk and honey scent. It is very light, but still creamy and sweet. This doesn't have a lot of staying power - it only lasted a couple of hours on me, but it was so sweet and lovely that I don't mind having to slather to keep the scent. Very glad that I tracked down a big bottle of this.

    Megaera

This smells great in the imp - a little sweet, with a tiny bit of grapefruit and a dash of amber. It is quite nice. However, on me it becomes a slightly sweet incense. None of the notes really pop out at me, and everything feels muted. Like some other scents with amber that I've tried, this was nice but just not very distinctive on me.

    Lady MacBeth

In the imp and on me, it is all grape. All I can smell is yummy, overly purple artificial grape goodies - gum, soda, popsicles. It's fantastic, and stays exactly the same for hours. This is long lasting, grape-y sweetness. I adore it and must order myself a larger bottle.

    Dragon's Milk

This is a fantastic blend. It is sweet and creamy, but the dragon's blood keeps it from seeming overly foody. It stays true to its in the imp smell on me, and has great staying power. There is nothing not to like in this oil, and it has lept onto my big bottle list.

    Snow White

I adore Snow White. I received an imp from ivyandpeony, but was afraid to try it and fall completely in love. I would just take the imp out every now and then and give it a sniff. It was so gorgeous - crisp and sweet, and just the tiniest bit fruity. I finally gave in, and tried it out. I am a goner. This smells exactly like the imp on my skin - crisp, sweet, a little fruity, and just the tiniest hint of something floral. I just keep thinking of frost covered berries and flowers. There is also a hint of vanilla that comes out in the later stages of wear. This was surprisingly strong, and had a lot of throw. I can still smell it fourteen hours after application. This is so gorgeous. I hope the the Lab brings it back at some point.

    Strawberry Moon 2005

This smelled so lovely in the imp, but did not work on my skin at all. In the imp, it was a beautiful scent of strawberries and cream, with a sort of watery flower note in the background. However, on my skin it morphed into cherry Pez. Of all the candies in the world that I do not want to smell like, cherry Pez is pretty high on the list. I kept hoping it would get better, but it never morphed or changed at all. Seven hours of cherry Pez. This was such a disappointment, and made me lament my skin chemistry the entire time I was wearing it.

    Intrigue

This is sweet and just a little incense-y. The fig is probably the most prominent note on me, and while I love fig, this just felt a little bland. It only lasted a couple of hours, and while it was a pretty enough scent, it just wasn't destinctive enough for me.

    Tulzscha

Mmm...wet, this is minty and fresh with just a hint of cucumber. It was great for awhile, but after a few hours it went from yummy freshness, to a sort of powdery mint that I didn't enjoy. Still, the wet stage and first couple hours are lovely enough that I will happily reapply throughout the day just to enjoy it. I'm glad I have a 5ml, since this is such a great scent for icky hot weather.

    Séance

This is a dry, warm, woody rose scent. It is surprisingly light, and blended into my skin after about ten minutes leaving just a pleasant warm rosewood scent lingering. It was very nice, but didn't last long enough for me to want a big bottle.

    Highwayman

I slathered this on my boyfriend and was able to enjoy the wonderful scent of Highwayman for an evening. This is a spicy pine wood - the vetiver is strong, but pleasant and refreshing. There are hints of leather, and just a touch of rose. It reminds me of a walk in the woods and stumbling on some wild rose bushes. It was stronger - a more rugged scent really, but it wasn't overwhelming and didn't have too much throw. The boyfriend gave this a solid Yummy.

    White Rabbit

This is lovely. In the imp, it is all linen - fresh and a bit soapy. On, the linen becomes a light backgrond note, leaving this smelling like tea with milk and honey on a freshly laundered table cloth. There is a hint of sweetness to this, but it is more delicate than food like. This is just a soft, relaxing scent. Very comforting.

    Thirteen (13)

This scent is amazing. In the bottle it is all white chocolate and smells just delicious. On, the tangerine/citrus comes out, and there is a breif period of smelling like a chocolate orange. Yummy. That stage didn't last very long for me, but it morphed into this amazing vanilla/floral that reminded me of candied flowers. This oil went through a lot of scent changes, but each of them was appealing and pleasant. This stayed soft, pretty and not as foody as I would have expected. It's really a fantastic and complex blend with great staying power.

    Marquise de Merteuil

This is a dark floral on me. Very sophisticated, without any sweetness even though the peach is a background note. The amber and vetiver soften and darken the floral notes, so the oil smells like a dark mossy patch of flowers in the woods. It has some throw - I could smell it lingering in the background all day, although it certainly wasn't overwhelming. It's very beautiful, but requires some attitude to go with it. This is a power suit and sexy pair of pumps sort of smell.

    Venom

This is dark and sexy - jasmine, berry and something else that I can't put my finger on. Smokey, really. It has a sweetness to it, but not the sort I normally expect from berries or florals. I wasn't really able to pick out notes in this blend, but I loved it. It is the perfect scent to feel like a seductive film noir heroine - the perfume exquivilent of a slinky black dress and some red lipstick.

    Miskatonic University

In the bottle and wet, this is irish cream and a bit of coffee. There's a little bit of a hazelnut note lingering in the background. Delicious, amazing and edible. On dry down the coffee becomes much stronger - nice, expensive coffee beans and the creamy note disappears. The dusty book smell becomes really prominent on me, and mixed with the coffee is just strong and a bit pungent. It's really interesting, and while not something I would normally go for, it just works somehow. This scent has been getting a lot of wear since I received it. It is an amazing coffee scent.

    Swank

Wet - the pomegranate is sweet and tart. Very nice but with the tiniest bit of bitterness from the booze. Dry - this is great for awhile. The pomegranate gets a little astringent from the booze note, which really seems gin like to me. It's exactly what I would expect a pomegranate martini to smell like. However, after about an hour this went a little funky on me - rather one demensional and a little soapy. It was still nice enough, but not the multifaceted scent I usually expect from BPAL. A reapplication brought it back to crisp, fruity drinks and kept it there, so it might have just been a weird chemistry day.

    Midwinter's Eve

This is intensely sweet plum. It's amazing and exactly the sort of smell that sugar plums conjures in my head. It softens a little after drydown but, it stayed lovely and sweet, very close to the in bottle scent the entire time I was wearing it. This is absolutely edible, and carries the potential risk of friends trying to chew your wrist off. Seriously - it happened three times while I was wearing Midwinter's Eve.

    Jester

Delicious! This is sweet, juicy berries with the barest hint of a bite. I had this on for an hour before I ordered a big bottle. I just couldn't stop smelling myself the entire time I was wearing this.

    Hexennacht (2005, 2016, 2019)

This was pine and a sweet incense, but oddly pleasant. Normally, I don't really dig either of those types of scents. It never struck me as forest like, but the smokey resin notes gave the whole oil a ritualistic feeling, which seemed very in keeping with the theme. I was surprised at how much throw this had. It just didn't seem very strong to me. However, I got compliments from several random strangers who really loved it. Overall - this is dark woods and smoke. I probably wouldn't need a bottle, but I will be using my imp with relish.
