    The Macabray

I gets no florals. Unfortunately this smells similar to an aquatic (albeit a very cold aquatic) but I'm not sure it's sweet enough for me. The BF hated it and said it smelled like soap. To me it's just coldness. Aww. I was really looking forward to some flowers. I think I'll keep it for layering.

    The Little Sparrow

This smelled nice when I first applied. It smelled sweet but dusty and light. After a few seconds it began turning to S-O-A-P. Very strong, cologny soap. It dried down to cologny sandlewood. But the story and name sounded so cute!

    Springtime scents

I'm having that problem now where I want to be between scents but I am wearing many "fresh" scents to work because they keep nicer for 8 hours than the heavier scents. My spring time choices: Cottonmouth (perfect in-between with the light flowers and snake oil) Earth Ox (happy fruity melon blast) Hanami (beautiful, clean, airy flowers. This IS spring!) Rapunzel (crisp, tea-like scent with white flowers) Shanghai (green tea with honeysuckle) Dormouse (green tea with peony) Tissue (rice and honeyed flowers) The Lantern Ghost of Oiwa (pretty mint floral which has lately turned to sake on my skin ) I also bought a bottle of the Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree which I'm waiting to arrive but it seems like that will be another good one

    Hanami

OH MY LORD- This is sooo beautiful! Exactly what I wanted in an Asian blend- soft, sweet cherry blossoms! My favorite thus far had been the Lantern Ghost of Oiwa but I've been noticing as it ages that the sake is becoming a little more pronounced which bothers me just a little. But THIS- this is perfect! It's very clean (yes soapish but I do NOT mind smelling of this type of soap) and sweet and the throw is phenominal for a Japanese inspired scent. Just gorgeous. My BF even walked in and picked up my Qtip (to apply his Casanova) and with widened eyes proclaimed how good it smelled. I swapped for half a bottle so we'll see how long that lasts me

    Jezebel

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! No, really- I think this is the first GC (besides the salons) that I am soooo in love with. When I first applied, I thought this was a strange mix of bubblegum and orange pez candies but after a while it develops this deep sensual huskiness with the rose and a faint touch of sandlewood while still maintaining the sweet flirtiness of the the honey and orange blossom (which I amp to the extreme because several HOURS after wearing this the first time my boy said he could smell orange ). But he said he really liked it and asked for the name of it (I've been on a winning streak lately it seems by picking things we both like). This makes me feel...suprisingly flirty. Not necessarily 'do me now', that's what I have Giant Vulva for- don't ask. This is one of those 'go get 'em' scents for me that makes me feel pretty, fresh and teasingly rawr at the same time. I feel like a slinky leopard (yes a leopard) among in a palace bedroom surrounded by luxurious half-naked man creatures and lying on silk. I think I just found my signature scent

    Agapē

I wanted so much to love this! The label is very pretty and the notes sounded amazing but it was not to be. The cream I think, is what did it. Cream gets VERY thick and weird with my chemistry. It smelled like cream that had been sitting out too long with tiny chunks of apple floating in it. It got a wrinkled brow from the disapproving bf (who LOVED 13 btw yea!) which says alot since he loves apple on me. So yea, rotting creme with chunks of apple. Not appealing. Will definately be finding a new home for poor agape. *sniff*

    Thirteen (13): February 2009

In the bottle: Very similar to butter rum cookie Wet: I can smell something dark, sweet and gritty with a sharp herbal scent underneath. Dry: The brown sugar seems to come forward more during the drydown and the whole scent sinks into my skin. I agree this does smell like a kitchen spice pantry but something in here (perhaps the thyme?) makes it very dark and herbal. I think of a witch's (or midieval healer) box of dried herbs, oils and powders as she mixes them into a healing potion using brown sugar to make a sweet syrup that hides the bitter taste. I do not seem to get much ginger at all, mostly the brown sugar, a smidgen of chocolate and the thyme. Very nice. When mixed together, the overall feel is a dry cinnamin stick. I love how dark and different this is. Even though it really reminds me of butter rum cookie (which ended up not drying down so well on me) this has that nice cooling herbal touch to make it interesting. Plus I can use all the good luck I can get!!

    Shub-Niggurath

On me this is truly warm, freshly baked gingerbread cookies. YUM. I want to nom myself. It's dry and spicy but not TOO spicy. Reading the reviews I thought this was going to be like snake-oil ginger pie or something. This is probably my favorite foody so far and is much better than butter rum cookie IMO which was too spicy and not enough cookie. I really love this and everyone around me attests to the gingerbread association. So glad it's GC!!!

    White Chocolate and Strawberry

YUMMY!!! Holy crap- this is real strawberries dipped in milk chocolate! It strongly reminds me of cream savers. Nice throw and wear length (4 hours!!!). This smells more milk chocolately to me than bliss, milk chocolate buttercream or any other chocolates I've tried. It's not too heavy or thick- in fact it's ver light and I can see how the above reviewer said it smells a little like a strawberry milk shake becuase it's very smoothe. LOVE!!!

    White Rose

YUMMM... White Rose smells like Wedding Cake. I don't know how, or why, but I'm getting a sweet, lightly lemony, creamy cake. It's not cake as in the other bpal foody blends, it's wafts of icing. And for some reason unbeknowst to me, I get hardly any rose which I normally amp to high heaven. This is just soft and smooth and georgeous. I put this on before going out last night about and hour or two later, I was walking in front of the bf and a breeze blew by. He said "mmm something smells good- is that YOU?" and after a precautionary sniff, it was Interestingly, I did not really love these mixed together and got a wrinkled nose expression from the boy so, I'm in the camp of wearing them seperately but I will definately be buying the set

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

oooh thanks so much for your replies everyone! I never thought of layering ozonish/mint scents to make a snowy effect but now I want to try it on poisoned apple too to see if I can make something similar to SGA

    Kabuki

You know- I never thought I'd like to smell of Twizzlers but indeed I do! This is so yummy when first applied. It smells like cherry licorice and it is STRONG! I slathered it on pretty good because things have been fading fast on me lately. About an hour later it's sweetened up alot but faded and it's hard for me to pick up. I think my skin eats this But the scent stays pretty true without much morphing. I'll have to try this in my shiny new locket that I will be ordered as soon as the update comes up *rubs hands together gleefully*.

The Fox-Woman Kuzunoha Leaving Her Child

White tea, cherry blossom, wisteria, star jasmine, and teak. Single word:Elegant This really does evoke the feelings of a child being left. It's like when you're little trying on your mother's fancy dresses. Here, it's spring outside and as her mother walks away, a trace of perfume mixes with the scent of the morning breeze. Very, very fresh and lovely. I seem to get no wood and can't detect the cherry blossom but I believe I'm amping the wisteria *(which is very much like gardenia) somehow because the flower note doesn't seem the same to me as the jasmine in other blends. Perhaps this is different because it is "star" jasmine. It's a very sweet, almost honeyed flower with humidity. Great spring scent!

Cake, cookies, donuts, baked goods, even Cinnabon

Knave of Hearts!! Smells just like a blackberry turnover with rose petals on top!
  15. Yoginispirit

    The Knave of Hearts

Wow ok- I was completely wrong about the lab's rose note. After Metachuatl (or however it's spelled) I had an imediate nauseous reaction and stupidly thought all the rose notes would be the same so I avoided them like the plague. But after being frimped with both the Knave and a sniffie of Rose Red my world has changed The knave starts VERY heavy cake which is apropriate with the rhyme, "The Queen of Hearts she made some tarts all on a summers day, the Knave of Hearts stole those tarts and took them right away". So the buttery tart is dominant wet then the knave bi***slaps the queen and steals the tarts and heads off on his motorcycle leaving a buttery, blackberryish rose. Simply elegant, playful and beautiful. The rose is not nearly as heavy as I'd expected. Before the unfortunate event with the other rose blend, the knave was the first BPAL perfume I had my eye on. But me in my newbieness thought, well the knave might be for a guy, so I never tried it But I'm so glad I was frimped with it!!!

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

Ok so, I was frimped with a sniffie of Rose Red, thanks to the lovely jj_j and now found that I *love* the labs fresh rose scent. My question is, are there any GC scents that currently smell like this one? Also I think a snow rose scent would be beautiful a la snow glass and apples just with rose instead. Are there any like that????

    Banded Sea Snake (2006)

I had avoided this one for a very long time because looking over the notes, I was sure it was going to smell like aftershave like most aquatics do on me. However I decided to swap for it (as I'm trying to test all the snakes before the the carnival leaves) and I have to say this is beautiful! I LOVE how evocative it is!!! In the decant this smells scary- I imagine deep, murky, dark water with bitter seaweeds wrapping around my ankles and trying to pull me under. The olive and oakmoss together smell like decaying brine. On my skin it lightened up as if swimming to the surface, and became sweet and smooth with a snake oil bite and some light cool mintiness. Then on drydown, I get even more beautiful silky vanilla and some slight salt damp on my skin as the sea snake stretches out on a stone to dry in the sun. This is really pretty but my only problem is that it smells VERY similar to Green Tree Viper. The Viper is a little sharper whereas this is quiet, mysterious and a little darker. Quite slinky. I'll have to wear them both again and see which I like more.

    Couple Consulting an Enpon

Lovely scent! On me it's all alcoholic (not sure what that is) blackberry and mint. Really nice throw and lasting time. Very fresh and fun. Might have to get a bottle.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Thanks to everyone for their recs- I will definately try the sassafrass strengthener when I get over how broke I am from the Shunga, 13 and Agape update

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

My vote goes to snake charmer- sweetest vanilla throw ever. I LOVED Mouse's Long and Sad Tale until it turned on me No more vanilla, just sandalwood. I think that vanilla might not age well or at least loses its sweetness. Anyone else encounter this? The Antikythera mechanism one amped like spicy men's cologne on me somehow. I put it on my BF and it smelled like flowers So I'm still searching for a good GC vanilla.

    Lovers in a Ricefield

Mmm. This is such a pretty scent! In some of the plum blends, (even plum blossom) my skin amps the sour, sharp plum juice which takes over the whole blend. In this one, the plum is still dominant but mixed with rice cream which softens it nicely. Wet it sort of smelled like Purple Pez candy. Dry the plum get's just a little tart but is swimming in a pool of grainy cream. The rice is slightly detectable but mixed well with the milky, creamy note. Overall this is lovely but a little weak on throw. I SLATHERED and am only getting faint wafts. This will have to be a locket blend when I get one. 3/5- Because of the weak throw. This is my 2nd favorite of the Shungas (giant vulva being the first).
  23. Yoginispirit

    Giant Vulva

Ohhhh Ahhhh... Giant Vulva is YUMMY! At first it was all beeswax and honey which was nice but sort of 'meh'. But after a few minutes it got all flushed and sexy as the skin musk made an appearance. There's also something very *clean* about this- not really soapy nor dryer sheets- more like clean linens that have been rolled around in all night long. Just so lovely- man, this just might call for a second bottle if the boy likes it as much as I do

    Lovers with Rutting Cats

In the bottle- I've just been pied in the face with custard. This is like WOW FOODIE. It smells almost exactly like the cake note in Heusos De Santo (Sp?), Wet- Mellows out a lot (phew!) and something sort of soft and sweet comes out, maybe the vanilla and ginger? Dry- Still slightly sweet but very subdued and a little greener and a touch powdery which I would guess is the oakmoss. There's also slight coconutty note coming out as well, like suntan lotion. Overall- very delicious, smooth and glowing scent. I didn't think I'd like it because of the ginger but it's blended so well that I can't even detect it. I loves it

    Earth Ox

Oooh! How beautiful is this??? I am blown away by the beautiful, feminine cleanness of Earth Ox. I, like the others, expected a darker fragrance but this bull must have been walking through the garden of paradise (hopefully a metaphor that proves true for the New Year!). In the bottle- yep that's the Lychee. I frequent Asian resteraunts and they will often have those small white eye-ball shaped fruits that smell (and taste) similar to melon in their salad bars but is in fact, Lychee. Wet-This is just so FRESH. I'm in love with this juicy, juicy stage. I'm still getting the Lychee but it begins to slowly turn warmer, and spicier. Dry- WHOA THERE PLUM YOU CAN BACK OFF NOW, K? THX. Plum jelly splatters all over poor Earth Ox's head as he's walking and something a little spicy (is that you tobacco?) pops out and says hi. I do tend to amp plum to the extreme but this is a nice plum, doesn't turn as sour as Prunella does on my skin thanks to the other notes. There is still something that is giving the clean and slightly floral throw- not too sure what that is. In the end it all turns to powder (stares hard at Peony). I suspect Peony because the same thing happens to me with Mouse's Long and Sad Tale. But then again it is that crappy time of the month so I will have to see what happens on a safer day. If not I will wear it happily in a locket (which I intend to buy soon!) and in my hair. Overall- I still L-O-V-E this and I'm really surprised that there isn't more love for poor little ox. I'm an ox myself so it could just be the zodiac thing Anyway this is a really lovely, fresh yet sophisticated blend that I will wear often. And wow this is the longest review I've written so far That just goes to show you how special it is
