In the decant: Apple - full on, no one is kidding above, just APPLE Wet: Apple still, maybe honey? am I imagining it? maybe just really sweet apple, like a pink lady, not anything too hard or crisp, spicy or tart Dry: still predominantly apple, there might be an edge of cardamom, and I'm still not sure if the honey is there or if it's just a warm-sweet apple note - hard to sort these notes out. I'm getting almost no noticeable blackcurrant very pretty apple scent.

In the decant: woah - black cherry candy! wet: cherry candy and a little rose peeking around the edges dry: getting much more balanced, though I might way to see how it continues to dry down after an hour or so, not just like 5 minutes. The cherry is still there, but not as dominant, the rose water is way up at the front, there's something a little creamy and powdery (orris?), though I'm not sure about bourbon... interesting.. may be undecided on this for a bit - if the rose water calms down a bit further, this could be nice. Edit: much more time goes by - yes, much better, rose has calmed down and is not overpowering anything anymore.

    The Doom of Beauty

when I put it on this morning, I was thinking it was kind of herbaceous rosewater, now that it's a few hours dry, it's soft and classic, definitely floral, but more of a violet-rose hybrid than just rose, it's soft, but there's something still "water" smelling, though I wouldn't call it aquatic, just makes it seem lighter. I don't get rosemary especially once it's dry, but it has a nice garden-y smell. Nice!

I knew this was risky, because of the amber and patchouli, but I thought they were "red" so I would try them, because I love honeysuckle and gardenia and I was curious about diamond accord. Wet: Smells musky and heady, sweet and floral. There's something sexy and dark underneath, but not too dark, really complex and interesting. Dry: the amber has won - it smells like slightly floral, but mostly baby powder... apparently doesn't matter what color the amber is, it is baby powder of doom color. le sigh. Smelled gorgeous wet.

The White Bees Swarming Hair Gloss

This is very much almost just like the GC Honey Hair Gloss - there's a definite coolness to it, whereas the GC is very warm, and a slight frost scent, which dissipates fairly quickly - but overall a lovely GC - I just don't need it AND the GC Honey HG at the same time.

    Snow White Hair Gloss

This is Snow White! Absolutely! There's a bit of mustiness at first spray, but it disappears almost immediately and becomes the strong Snow White perfume we love! And it STAYS too. At the end of the day, I was still very well aware of the scent, very strongly. I washed my hair that night, but I bet this stuff has crazy staying power.
  8. First off it smells really clean and light. The snow pea steps up first with some really spring/summer light herbals; then the rose comes out, and it's a beautiful light, fresh, clean rose scent. It borders on being just a touch soapy, but just barely to me. This smells much lighter/cleaner than Splendid Summer Days, which also lovely-floral, but a much deeper, golden scent. I'd say, if you wanted to compare the two (because I did), that Triumphal Arch smells like spring outside with flowers in the open air, and Splendid Summer Days smells like flowers inside a warm florist shop, with sun streaming heavy through big plate windows. They are similar, but distinctly different.

    Splendid Summer Days Atmosphere Spray

My first impression is really warm amber, followed by a warm carnation scent. As it settles, the roses come out, and it's very well balanced. I agree with the above about it being like a perfect, sunny florist shop, full of lots of greenery and flowers.

    Seven Herbs Charm

I'll echo the choruses of lemon, though for me, it's an herbaceous lemon, but not lemon grass, more like lemon balm with extra lemon zest on top. It's very bright and fresh and HEY LEMON but there's an herbal character to it. As it dries down, it softens some, but stays pretty much soft herbal LEMON.

    Rose Red Hair Gloss

Love love love! So, at first, I was slightly worried, because when I first sprayed it, it was so very green. I love the fresh/green whole rosebush aspect of Rose Red, but this seemed to be way more bush than rose. So I went a little light with my first application (2 rounds of 3 spritzes into a wet hand then worked into wet hair). But it didn't take long for the rose to start to bloom and balance out with all the thorns and leaves. All night, I had lovely rose red scent about me, and thought I should have applied it more liberally. In the morning, little whiffs and traces barely there, but just the scent I wanted. End of the day, and it's barely there - but every once in a while I get that perfect Rose Red scent come back up. Next time, will apply it more liberally; this is definitely on the lighter side of the spectrum. (if I applied Honey the same way, it would fog bomb the bathroom, and I'd be able to smell it for 2-3 days - love the stuff, but it is potent!) So excited to have rose-scented hair!

    Yule Buddies

Tested on the fella* woo! The smell in the decant is strong! definitely leather and something kinda metallic? wet on him: Ok, there's the gingerbread, and there's some leather in the background, not getting the pipe smoke. dry: all gingerbread, too foodie for him.

    Coquelicot Snow

Oh, I wanted this to work. In the decant, bright sunny oranges and tangerines Wet: still mostly citrus, with a slight undercurrent of something... odd, dry down (like 30 minutes later): all gone, nothing left but the odd powdery funk which means the musk is one of those my skin hates (had hoped for mor poppy, less musk). Sad sad.

    Eusapia

Was really hopeful for this! In the bottle: sharp, wet, almost astringent, but kind of lilac-y Wet: There's the lilac! And wow, it's really realistic, and I agree, not just lilac flower/perfume, but lilac bush, there's a lot of fresh greenery with these delicate flowers - somewhere in the distance, someone's lit a candle, but it's definitely in the background - missing the tea note. Dry: Lilacs still at the front, but the candle as stepped up, I think the white tea is the connector note. Very lovely and different!

    The Fox Sisters

Well, this one is a bit surprising... In the bottle: very faint, most a slightly fruity (apple) and maybe something slightly herbacious/green. Wet: all rose geranium, if there's bourbon vanilla, it is completely absent, if there's wood, I can't smell it, even the apple is gone away, it's not even very rose-y, just rose geranium Dry: kind of green/herby barely rosey powder - no vanilla, no wood, not enough rose to make it distinctly rose - maybe I amp rose geranium? because that just dominated everything in a kind of unpleasant way. Sigh - to the swap pile.

    Sugared pink grapefruit?

I can't remember how sweet it is, probably not candied, but Adoration of the Mi-Go comes out almost pure grapefruit to me.

    Star Promenade

Sloe gin, peach blossoms, banjo strings, hay bales, and apple pie. This is a sharp, high, metallic scent. After smelling a lot of the others, this one really jumps out and slaps you and is distinctly different. In the bottle: metallic and fruity, and, oh hi, gin, kinda fruity gin, but GIN. maybe some apple pie back in the background? maybe? hi gin! wet on skin: soo sharp and piercing! fruity gin and still lots of metallic notes. Kinda sorta is hitting a memory about spinning pinwheels - think that one was fruity metal too... dry: the gin has calmed down tremendously, and the metal has blown off, now it's mostly slightly dusty hay bales, a touch of peach blossom, and maybe a thought that there was a piece of apple pie somewhere leftover in the kitchen, but you're not quite sure. Overall, fairly complex, comes out strong on the high notes, and mellows down after a bit, but it takes a bit, and ends somewhere nice and homely. Would be hard to classify - not floral, really - and only really boozy up front - same for metallic, and definitely not foodie... nice one, though!

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

no worries, and you just reminded me I needed to transfer the Ligeia scents I put in my own color-coded list over on the blank list... whoopsie! Got to remember that!
  20. I love Gertrude Dix, but I don't think there's anything really like it on the perfume side. The only flower + champagne blend I'm aware of is Champagne & Roses. Champagne & Party Hats if mixed with your favorite magnolia/gardenia flower blend might be closer. Of course, the trick then is, those Champagne + ____ scents aren't always very easy to come by. :-/

    Peach Candyfloss Atmosphere Spray

I was expecting this to be more more like peach candy, and was a little worried, and was very happy it's not like peach candy at all. It's much more an over-ripe, super succulent, heady peach that's just been sweetened up a bit - but I don't really pick out a specific "sugar" note, like in candy phoenix or sugar skulls perfumes. In the air and on linen, it because very light and fresh-fruit-y.

Tammany Free and Easy Atmosphere Spray

I LOVE this stuff. This is the bright, fizzy, sparkling champange note I love in those old Champagne & Roses, Champagne & Cigars, Champagne & Opium blends. The white carnation adds just a subtle breath of soft floral sweetness underneath it, but even after it's been on the sheets a couple of days, it's really light and in the background. All champagne sparkle up front. As it comes off as *almost* a single note, it is proving very versatile with layering with other atmo sprays.

    Hearts for Ghost Friends

I keep testing this one because I can't quite sort it out. It has some incredible staying power, and a good bit of throw. In the bottle: definitely white flowers, not so rosy, probably more carnation and magnolia Wet: hi magnolia! You're my friend! Other florals give it a less specific but still "white flower" smell which I tend to like Dry: it's really dancing between white florals and strong magnolia with a powdery baby-powder of doom edge on it. That white musk is just going to do that to me. It's not enough to completely take over and kill all the other notes, but it's trying really hard- magnolia is just putting up one heck of a fight. Overall drydown to a kind of magnolia scented baby-powder.

    Blueberry Picking

As soon as I read the description, it was love! I still love going home and going blueberry picking in my Mom's overgrown and weedy garden. In the bottle: fresh ripe juicy no-candy blueberries Wet: blueberries are still all up front and on top, but there's something underneath that's grassy, and the lemon verbena is quick to assert itself. Dry: I never picked up on the lavender, but it's so lovely, I think the lemon verbena almost threatens at time to overwhelm the blueberry, but it's such a great blueberry and it hangs around, little peeks of the honeysuckle and grassiness show up as it dries down. It is a very sunny bright scent, very evocative. LOVE!

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?

LOVE Hannibal! (is it coming back anytime soon?) - I think Whitechapel would be dead-on. I mean, you kind of want to put a foodie undernote with the character, but if he wore a cologne, it would be old world and pure class, probably very rare and expensive.
