  1. I've had this in imp form for over a year and haven't paid much attention to it. Something compelled me to use it this morning and wow! What a beautiful, warm, inviting scent!

In the imp it just smells like almond and cinnamon, but when it's on my skin the frankincense comes out and turns this into a smoky, soft sweet small. The heliotrope makes it a bit bright and I can pinpoint the vanilla but I'm sure it's in there somewhere!

Oddly enough, this is almost a dead ringer for my favorite conventional perfume of all time, Dior's Hypnotique Poison. I'll save myself $30 and just get a bottle of Eclipse!

  2. Me likey this!

I have always liked white musk in perfumes but I don't really have a lot of smellies with that note. I think this is a perfect mix of all the notes. It smells a wee bit masculine on me but I love it regardless! the patchouli gives it this little bite note at the end. I think I may need to snag a bottle!

  3. My bottle of Kabuki is almost 3 years old (it has the old blue and white label). When I first got it, I liked it ok but not enough to actually wear it often. I hoped with some aging it would turn into a wonderous scent as most blends with red musk tend to do. Indeed it has become incredible!

In the bottle: cherry tootsie pops! Seriously, that's all I smell

On skin: the oil is a dark purpleish red and it's a mixture of licorice and sweet cherry. I love to eat licorice and smell like licorice!

Drydown: smooth, musky, spicy cherry. Serious throw! Makes me feel enigmatic and powerful.

I tend to slather but I don't need to with Kabuki, it's pretty intense. One of my favorite GC blends!

  4. Hmmmm, there must be spearmint in this somewhere. Or Wintergreen. Some kind of frosty mint. It kind smells like laundry detergent to me. I'm waiting for it to change into something I will love but I am not quite sure that is going to happen. The mintyness does vanish after a few minutes, but still that laundry detergent smell...now it kind of smells like dishsoap. Blargh. To eb fair though, most lunacies don't really work for me but I was so taken with the artwork and description of this I just had to do it.

  5. Hilary's review above is pretty spot on in my opinion. Definitely a lemony Ginger, not the deep cookie Ginger that I had originally anticipated. It is so good though! I can smell the marshmallow now after its been sitting on my wrists for over an hour. I walked into a Christmas party tonight and everyone was like, Oh my god you smell amazing!!!!! I can't wait to see how this ages.

  6. Good god this is fantastic!!!! It goes lost straight dark vanilla on me a first, then the patchouli comes out, then all 3 notes meld together to form a smooth, sexy and elegant scent the likes of which I've never smelled before. OMG. Now I see what all the fuss is about!

  7. I got this as a Frimp with my Yule order this year :)

Wow, I really like this! I'm going to guess the notes are amber, patchouli and clove. I get no cinnamon, just spicy smokey sexiness :)

I think this will be a bottle worthy purchase in the future. I have yet to wear it out in public so we'll see what happens then.

  8. The orange blossom and carnation are definately prevalent in the bottle and when I first put this on. It takes about 10 minutes to calm down into a musky, semi-sweet vanilla. I actually really like this and think it will age well too.

  9. Holy Strawberry Batman! this is so crazy strawberry in the bottle! almost a dead ringer for strawberry bubble yum gum.

I do get a little bit of the peach when I first put it on but then it does mellow out in a creamy, soft strawberry. I don't get any cheesecake note either but perhaps with aging it will appear. This is a yummy one!

  10. THE LAST UNICORN
The unicorn lived in a lilac wood, and she lived all alone. She was very old, though she did not know it, and she was no longer the careless color of sea foam, but rather the color of snow falling on a moonlit night. But her eyes were still clear and unwearied, and she still moved like a shadow on the sea.

Frosty lilac petals, iris pallida root, orris, violet leaf, white chocolate, coconut, wild lettuce, white sandalwood, and oakmoss.

This is definitely a perfume befitting The Last Unicorn.
Smelling it in the bottle, the oil smells like a garden..like heads of lettuce nestled in the dirt. There is a freshness, airy and a little sweet also.
Upon first application, I get the frosty lilac note. Lilac is a scent that makes me sad for some reason but I think it's appropriate for The Last Unicorn. She is a lonely creature but steadfast and determined at the same time and I think lilac is evocative of that.I can smell the coconut underneath there too.
As it sits on me I am enveloped in a soft haze of delicate smells all mingled together. It's hard to pick the other notes out, everything blends together so well. I know there was a concern about white chocolate as a make it or break it note for some, but I can't detect any. Oh wait, there's the sandalwood. This is definitely another scent that makes me reminisce about my childhood. This blend is soft, innocent, fantasy and reality all at once.
    Beautiful. Just beautiful.

  11. I went to see the pumpkin show tonight in my hometown. This little farmstand grows thousands of pumpkins every year and carves them all. Each one is completely different and they et them all up in the woods next to the farmstand and light them up. They do this the night before and the night of Halloween. Ive been going to see them since I was two and to me, that is the epitome of Halloween-time. I wore this years October to go see them tonight :)

  12. 2010 edition - I am so happy Beth did this again! I had the 2007 version and it smells rich and smokey now. I am hoping that this bottle from this season will do the same in time. I am pleased with how cold it smells! It does smell a wee bit cologney at first but that wears away quick and the smoky, dry leaves in the cold night thing starts to happen. Honestly, I truly feel that this smells exactly like fall here in VT so it makes me very happy that I can have it all year round.

  13. 2010 edition - this is just kind of meh on me. I love it in the bottle, it's creamy apple spicyness. On me it just kind of smells like a generic apple spice candle, so I have taken to diffusing this in my oil burner. Let me tell you, my house now smells AMAZING! Its pretty cold in this drafty old farmhouse but smelling Lambs Wool while I read on my couch makes me feel warmer :)

  14. I luster after this ever since it went live and finally got my paws on some at NYCC. This was a worthwhile splurge! I too use mine as body oil and it's heavenly. My skin is Noe super soft and smells amazing. It also layers well with any other musky, spice scent that you want to wear, you don't have to match it with more Snake Oil perfume. I will buy bottles of this as long as Puddin' wants to keep selling them!

  15. In the bottle this smells like fruity burnt licorice but when I put it on, it blooms into sweet, cold, smoky violet with a bit of a greenish edge. I really love the lab's violet note in everything I encounter it in. This is a comforting scent to me. It just started getting really cold in Vermont and this is helping to make me feel warm :)

  16. Admittedly I had never been too taken by the description of this. Pirate rum sounds too liquory to me and I was never very curious about it. Yet this past Saturday at NYCC, the tester for it was in the top left corner of one of the displays at the booth and it caught my eye. So I sniffed it. Instant love!!!! This must be what JK Rowling was thinking of when she wrote about Butterbeer. It's warm, creamy, melted butterscotch with just a hint of coconut rum. I think my eyes may have rolled in my head a bit when I smelled it. I didn't even test it, I just bought it based on sniff alone. When I put it on later that night it was all delicious butterscotch for a long time and then turned into creamy coconut hours later. Grog where have you been all my life?! My new favorite GC. If you like Miskatonic University, Anne Beany, or Hellcat, you would probably love this.

  17. mmmmm butterscotch!!!! this is uber butterscotchy and rum-my at first but then the cheesecake note starts to appear. I love that I can actually smell the crust too! creamy pirate cheesecake!

I have been wearing this to go to sleep for the past 2 nights and its very comforting :)
